Indiana triumph in the West

Image
Dunk of the game by who other than highflyer Ricky Davis

The Indiana Pacers pulled off the win in a close and exciting game of basketball between two of the NBA's current best teams.

Starting 5:
Image
C Jermaine O'Neal
PF Al Harrington
SF Marquis Daniels
SG Ricky Davis
PG Sarunas Jasekivicius

Image
C Elton Brand
PF Tim Thomas
SF Cuttino Mobley
SG Corey Maggette
PG Sam Cassel

The 1st quarter was everything Rick Carlisle and his Indiana team could have hoped for, clearly missing the dominant presence of Chris Kaman behind them, the Clippers struggled on defense allowing the Pacers to race off ta 7-0 lead. Maggette put some final points on the board as the quarter went on but Jermaine O'Neal and Harrington kept the door shut and were unselfish on offense, allowing Davis and Daniels to add to their tallys.
1st Quarter: Pacers 30-16 Clippers

LA came out in the second looking more relaxed having got the first quarter over with, but they still had a mountain to climb if they were to get back in this game. Sam Cassel lead the way with his opening points of the night a three pointer. Mobley and Maggette followed and the Staples Center was sensing a come-back. Harrington and Daniels did get in the back door for some points wich meant they still had the upper hand by half-time.
Half-Time: Pacers 43-38 Clippers

Jermaine O'Neal got some nice shots to fall but Cassel continued to find his men, this was clearly a problem and Carlisle bought on the quicker of his point-guards, Darrel Armstrong, who had to play well if he was going to be given a chance at the starting PG position again. He did just that and stole of Cassel in his first 30 seconds and layed-up for the easy 2. But Elton Brand and Tim Thomas dunked monstrously to keep the scores close along with Maggette.
3rd Qaurter: Pacers 60-56 Clippers

Cuttino Mobley came out in the 4th and got 2 quick baskets to tie the game at 60-60, Tim Thomas gave the Clippers their first lead of the game but Harrington and Davis quickly took it away. The game went back and forth from then on with both teams executing good offense. Harrington and Thomas were the stand-outs and made the score 77-75 to Indiana but baskets frm Mobley and Maggette brang the game to within 1. However a block and basket from Jermaien O'Neal -who is making a big push for not only defensive player of the year but also MVP- made the score 85-82 with 20 seconds left. The Clippers called a time-out and had to get the three. It would left on the shoulders of Sam Cassel, but it wasn't his night as he air-balled it, luckily though, Elton Brand jammed home the rebound. As soon as the pass came inbound from Marquis Daniels, Armstrong was fouled by Cassel who was fouled out. He made them both. LA took another TO with the score at 87-84. They had another chance to go into over-time. They came out with a different shooter- Cuttino Mobley, but his shot was swatted down the other end of the court by who other than Jermaine O'Neal. The buzzer went as he roared and held his hands aloft in victory.
Final Score: Pacers 87-84 Clippers

Quote of the game: "NO! Rejected by Jermaine O'Neal! what a way to end the game!" Marv Albert when O'Neal rejected Mobley's OT attempt

POG: Jermaine O'Neal - 22pts, 15 rbs and shot 59% from the field

Keystats: Sam Cassel had a poor night shooting only getting 3 points, but managed to get 7 assists. Armstrong hit the vital free-throws when he was fouled and Harrington kept throwing dwon the points on offense much like Tim Thomas - who did an excellent job filling in for the injured Chris Kaman

starting PG tournament to be held!

As readers of the dynasty will notice, Rick Carlisle is left with a tough choice every game on the starting PG position. Sarunas Jasekivicius is an excellent shooter from the top of the key and the three point line, however Armstrong is fast, quick, experienced and can defend well. Even Ediie Gill and Norris have put in valid reasons in training.
So in an unpresedented move, Rick Carlisle has set-up a PG tournament which will happen in the middle of his training session.

Carlisle added: "I could not choose who is going to be the upcoming games starting PG as Jasekivicius has been consistent but Armstrong was excellent last night. The tounament will be in a knock-out scheme and the winner of the 1-on-1 tournament will get the starting PG position for our next game. I have picked out of a hat the match-ups and it will start in today's training session - first to 11 pts."

The match-ups were picked like this:

Sarunas Jasekivicius vs: Ediie Gill

Final: ? vs. ?

Darrel Armstrong vs. Mark Norris

Mon Nov 20, 2006 3:35 am

Oh I hope Saras wins...

BTW it's Jasikevicius, not Jasekivicius...

Mon Nov 20, 2006 5:11 am

Jasikevicius wins starting spot in 1-on-1 tournament

Sarunas Jasikevicius has earned the starting PG position on the roster.
In the 1-1 tournament, he comfortably beat Eddie Gill 11-3 and then beat Darrel Armstrong (who beat Mark Norris 13-11) in a tightly contested 16-14.
Rick Carlisle said: "The other guys on the roster enjoyed it and the guards enjoyed the challenge. From looking at the games, it was clear that Saras wanted it most and he has definently earned his place"
What does this mean for the other point gurads?
"Obviously Darrel Armstrong is my second choice and then Mark Norris, Eddie will get another chance at the point grad spot either here or elsewhere in the NBA.

Davis sends Pacers into over-time and sinks last second free-throws to get the win

Image
Ricky Davis' game winning free throws

In a nail-biting game, the Indiana Pacers, thanks to Ricky Davis, managed to come away from Utah with the win

Starting 5:
Image
C Jermaine O'Neal
PF Al Harrington
SF Marquis Daniels
SG Ricky Davis
PG Sarunas Jasikevicius

Image
C Mehmet Okur
PF Carlos Boozer
SF Andrei Kirilenko
SG Gordan Giricek
PG Deron Williams

Both teams started well and got points on the board, Gordan Giricek got 3 quick jumpers and Jasekivicius got two easy lay-ups. They were accompanied by Jermaine O'Neal, Al Harrington, Andrei Krilienko and Deron Williams.
1st Quarter: Pacers 25-28 Jazz

Deron Wlliams continued to drive through the lanes and take the jumper and give the dish which meant that Utah started on a 5-0 run. Jermaine O'Neal got Indiana back on their feet midway-through the quarter and Ricky Davis dunked the Pacers into a slender half-time lead.
Half Time: Pacers 41-40 Jazz

Jermaine O'Neal and Al Harrington made the paint their own, blocking 3 between them in 2 minutes whilst Jasikevicius drained a few nice jumpers. However, Andrei Kirilenko found his range and starting the Jazz run along with Boozer and Okur. When Harrington and Daniels got points back - Giricek drained two three's in a row, showing that every player on the Jazz team can get the baskets.
3rd Quarter: Pacers 57-64 Jazz

Ricky Davis and Deron Williams got the 4th quarter up and running, to later be followed by Jasikevicius and AK47. But the Jazz line-up took a dent as Boozer fouled Harrington on his way to the basket and was fouled out. Jermaien O'Neal swatted away 2 more attempts and Ricky Davis was able to convert making the score 74-72 Utah, but a Gordon Giricek run restored a comfortable lead at 80-74. But soon after Giricek too fouled out and the Jazz lost their 3-point man with the score at 78-80. With 58 seconds left in the game, Jazz took a time-out and came back on the floor. The Pacers defense was good and Andrei Kirilenko's options were shut off and Mehmet Okur was called for a 3 second violation, Davis wasted no time and drained a 3. With Indiana leading 81-80 with 17.3 left on the clock, Utah took another TO and Deron Williams got a 3 to heap the pressure on Indiana. Jasikevicius raced with the ball up to Utah's D. With 3 seconds left, he saw Davis cut into the lane and he put up the shot with 1 second left and it took the Pacers and the Jazz into Over-Time.
4th Quarter: Pacers 83-83 Jazz

Harrington, Davis, O'Neal and OKur got their respective teams off the mark but Indiana took the lead @ 89-87, but former laker Derek Fisher put the Jazz in front again. Davis and Harrington fought back but Al was to play no further put in the game as he fouled out. Deron Williams looked to have given the Jazz a little time to relax but Ricky Davis had other ideas as he threw down on 3 players on 3 different plays and when Okur tried to stop him, he too sat down for the night via fouls. Ricky Davis continued the fight back and made it 100-102. On a vital play for Utah, Kirilenko drove into the lane only to have his shot rejected by Jermaine O'Neal and Marquis Daniels tied things up on the fast-break with 39 seconds left in OT. Utah held the ball until 6 seconds were left, Deron Williams shot missed, O'Neal powered up for the rebound and sent it to Ricky Davis. He charged up the court with the clock winding down and as the buzzer went he took a hard-hit from Kirilenko. Davis had 2 free throws to win the game for the Pacers, he drained them both and was surrounded by his team-mates
Final Score: Pacers 104-102

Quote Of The Game: "Oh and Ricky Davis with the high-light dunk... save the women and children on that one!" Marv Albert on one of Ricky Davis monstrous jams

POG: Jermaine O'Neal - 33 pts, 15 rbs, 3 assists and 5 blocks

Keystats: Ricky Davis got 26 pts and was supplied nicely by Sarunas Jasikeveicius who got 6 assists. The Jazz may well have won the game if their on-form shooter Gordan Giricek hadn't fouled out at a crucial moment, never-the-less, he grabbed 23 pts. Indiana kept Andrei Kirilenko quite by his standards, limiting him to 15 pts.

The win sent Indiana to the top of their division and 4th in the power-rankings behind Clippers, Grizzlies and the surprise leaders - the Philadelphia 76ers who boast a record of 12-3

jermaine o'neal got 33 pts, many like this!

Indiana Pacers defeated the Phoenix Suns away, and increased their streak to 6 wins in a row.

C Kurt Thomas
PF Amare Stoudamire
SF Shawn Marion
SG Raja Bell
PG Steve Nash

Image

C Jermaine O'Neal
PF Al Harrington
SF Danny Granger
SG Ricky Davis
PG Sarunas Jasikevicius

Ricky Davis and the Pacers started well, making 4 consecutive shots, the Suns tried to answer with Bell and Marion but O'Neal stepped up his defense and blocked 2 straight whilst Harrington and Daniels did the job on the offensive end
1st Quarter: Suns 10-20 Pacers

Amare Stoudamire came out in the 2cnd and pulled some points back but Jasikevicius got 2 steal and restored the lead. Marion and Nash put up the points for Phoenix and Harrington and Davis converted for the Pacers
Half-Time: Suns 27-33 Pacers

Kurt Thomas was very quite in the 1st half but provided for Bell and Marion as they dunked home. Harrington hit back with jams of his own and Jasikevicius shot some nice jumpers and this one looked to be all over.
3rd Qauter: Suns 40-52 Pacers

Harrington and Davis increased the pacers lead but Nash and Stoudamire hit back as Amare threw down on O'Neal, a task which no-one else has yet accomplished but Jermaine O'Neal responded with nice lay-ups and Daniels hit a 3. Despite Bell rallying late in the 4th, the pacers held on for the win
Final Score: Suns 60-64

Quote Of The Game: "Amare Stoudamire - with the power-house play, what a move!" Marv Albert - Commenting on one of Amare Stoudamire's dunks

POG - Al Harrington - 12 pts, 7 rebounds and 2 blocks

Keystats: Al Harrington hit back whenever Phoenix tried to bring it back and high-point man Raja Bell was resticted in the 1st half. Marion only shot 39% in the 2cnd half and Jermaine O'Neal again blocked a few attempts

Well much better presentation! You should maybe resize your images before uploading them, it makes them more detailed compared to the auto resized ones. The only thing I do not like in your dynasty is the somehow eye-cancer-attracting colors of the text. (e.g. the Phoenix starting five). Besides those minor suggestions, really a great dynasty.

Wed Nov 22, 2006 10:36 am

Those are some pretty piss-poor MVP candidates to be honest with you.

By the way, nice trade for Davis, aside from his roach comments that he made to the Blazers, he's matured quite a bit.

I also agree that the pics have to be re-sized a tad. It gets a bit tedious to scroll around with the clutter.

Thats because I play 8 minute quarters, had they been 12, the stats would have been better.

I change the colour of the text depending on the team's colours but if it doesn't look good, I'll change them.

Ok, I'll resize the pictures

Thu Nov 23, 2006 8:36 am

You should change the sim quarter length to 12 then. That way, you'd still get fairly realistic stats.

Fri Nov 24, 2006 8:37 am

yeah good point, but from looking at other people's dynastys who play 12 minute quarter, i can see that many people have said that the scores are sometimes very urealistic

Sat Nov 25, 2006 4:13 am

Oh yeah it looks cool with the pics and other stuff man, your recaps have much improved from the first ones... (Y)

Sat Nov 25, 2006 4:28 am

thanks are they good now?

Sat Nov 25, 2006 4:51 am

Without a doubt... Of course there are some minor shits, like the sizing of the pics and so on... But all in all, they are good...

Sat Nov 25, 2006 4:56 am

yeah, sorry about the picture size but if you look at my first posts, i have replaced the older pictures with new ones - they will be the sizes of the ones coming up, tell me what you think

On The Spot: Rick Carlisle

Kevin Cadle Rick Carlisle

Coach Carlisle, what are your thoughts on your teams performances so far in the season? Couldn't be much happier, we are still working hard however, and won't stop until we get that championship

End of the season start of this season, many were doubting your clubs stature of becoming a title-contesting team. Did that have any influence on your motivation? Well i've got four words for the doubters; look at us now. We are 11-3, one of our players holds the top spot for a MVP position, you know we've come a long way since last season.

Yeah, you mentioned your star player so far Jermaine O'Neal, and a lot of people thought that he would move last year being as the Pacers weren't winning anything, did you have any part in him staying in Indiana and how is feeling right now? I had no say in Jermaine staying with us and to be honest with you, i too thought he may be on his way out, but he said to me "I moved from Portland came here, you gave me the opportunity and now I have become a great player - my heart is here with Indiana. I owe it to you and the fans

Many eyebrows were raised when Jamaal Tinsley was left on the bench in the first few games of the season and then being trade with, of course, the T-Wolves. Did that phase you in anyway and do you have any regrets? Jamaal wasn't putting in the performances for us this season, every player on the roster now knows that its not going to be a free-ride here at the Pacers, everyone has to work for their places and work work work. Tinsley was unhappy about being on the bench and wanted to leave, there wasn't much I could say to that. So I linked up with Dwayne Casey and the rest - as they say- is history

Yeah and what a trade it turned out to be, Ricky Davis has come to Indiana and been putting up some amazing figures. What was the atmosphere in the camp like when Ricky joined the team and how did he first get on with his new team-mates? Everyone was excited about playiing with Davis, the guys welcomed him to the club and I think thats one of the main reasons why Ricky has been putting up numbers this season, he blended right in with the players and gets along with everybody, the atmosphere is great

One last question Coach errrmmmm, what do you think you can accomplish with the Pacers this season? Last season, teams looked down on us, they can't do that now and anything lower than a second-round knockout in the play-offs will be a dissapointment

Thanks for your time No problem
