No Kobe, no win for LA

LOS ANGELES-The Staples Center was in stun-silence when Kobe Bryant held his arm as he was being helped off the court by Devean George. They were in stun silence after the game. Bogut took advantage of Bryant's injury and pounced on the Lakers, 97-93.

Lamar Odom took over the scoring load with 29 points but the other Lakers didn't help much. He was able to cut the Bucks' lead to three, 85-88, but on the next play, Bobby Simmons hit a cold-blooded 3-pointer to break the Lakers' hearts.

Desmond Mason had his way inside, dunking his way to 24 points.

Bust? Brown seals victory for LA

Image

Kwame Brown scored on three straight alley-oops to seal the Los Angeles Lakes' 92-84 victory over the Dallas Mavericks.

It was tied 84-84 when Bryant threw an alley-oop layup to Brown. After Aaron McKie stole the ball at half court, he ran all the way before lobbing the ball to Brown who threw it down. After Dampier missed a layup, Bryant threw another oop to Brown.
Dallas called for time as a play for Nowitzki was set up with 12.3 seconds left. Unfortunately, his 3-pointer missed to seal LA's win.

Bryant led LA with 35 points.

The Lakers shot 2-21 from the 3-point arc and missed a bunch of free throws in this game.

Kobe Bryant led his team with 29 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists.

This loss is the Lakers first since going 14-0 in the shortened season.

TRADE ACCEPTED; HORRY RETURNS TO LAKERS
Jumaine Jones, the subject of trade rumors the whole offseason, has been traded along with Brian Cook to the San Antonio Spurs in exchange for Robert Horry. Horry returns to the Los Angeles Lakers after being selected by the Spurs in the offseason's special draft.

Horry solid in his 1st game but Lakers lose; Bryant injured

Could this be a wake up sign for the LA Lakers? No, could THESE be wake up signs for the Los Angeles Lakers? First, the bad news: a 4th quarter rally fell short as the LA Lakers dropped their home opener to the Cavs, 100-90, and are now 0-2. Now for the worse news: Kobe Bryant was injured during the 1st quarter, returned and finished the game, but after the game doctors said he would be out 6 weeks.

Bryant was injured going for a layup with the Lakers down 16-10 in the first quarter. He sat out the game until returning slightly before halftime. He finished the game with 33 points, 3 rebounds and 4 assists, doing everything he can to give his team the win. However, he only got significant help from Chris Mihm (9 blocks) and Horry (12 points).

LeBron James led the Cavs with 23 points, and his team is now 3-0. Larry Hughes scored 19 points despite 5 fouls. Damon Jones, also with 5 fouls, scored 20 points.

Cleveland swept the season series 2-0.

NO KOBE, NO PROBLEM FOR KWAME BROWN AND LAKERS

Could this be the Kwame Brown the Lakers had hoped for? Brown nearly had a triple-double of 25 points, 15 rebounds and 8 blocks to lead the Los Angeles Lakers over the Minnesota Timberwolves, 100-98 for their 1st win of the season.

Brown and the rest of the Lakers were called to step up in the abscence of Kobe Bryant, who is out 6 weeks with a torn achilles tendon. As a result, five Lakers, including Brown, scored in double figures. Chris Mihm had 10 points before fouling out, Lamar Odom had 13 points and 6 rebounds, Robert Horry had 13 points and Devean George had 15.

Marko Jaric hit a huge 3-pointer to put the T-wolves up 98-97, but Odom found Brown wide open underneath for a slam to give LA the lead. After a Minnesota timeout with 11.2 seconds left, Marko Jaric missed a short jumper and Brown secured the rebound. His split freethrows set the final score.

Kobe Bryant
He is our team captain, the leader of this team. It's a shame that he's injured again with the great season he's been having statistically.

Kwame Brown
KBv2.0. Kwame Brown has been fast improving this year. He's averaging a double-double, something he never did in Washington. The whole organization hopes that he will continue the performance that he showed in our win against Minnesota.

Robert Horry
It's thrilling to have Robert back on the roster after the offseason. So far he has produced solid numbers and is there at the right place at the right time.

Lamar Odom
He's our 2nd option on offense. But with Kobe's injury, hes now the 1st option. Like the game against Minnesota, he should continue to be agresive on offense, even if Kobe's on the floor.

Chris Mihm
Solid numbers once again now that we don't have Shaq anymore. Almost double-double performances. If his performance continues like this, he will be a great player.

Devean George
He has been struggling this year on offense. However, he is a seasoned veteran and he knows that stats aren't everything. He wants to win.

Von Wafer
Surprisingly our team's big time player. He is fine with his role as backup point guard behind Aaron McKie. Although his position is the shooting guard, coach Phil Jackson wanted to develop this kid into one of the big guards that he wants on the team. So far his numbers are good, but he will continue to improve.

Andrew Bynum
He is a solid backup for Chris Mihm. Although his offensive numbers are low, he's been blocking a great deal of shots. Once he masters his defense, then his offense will improve.

LAKERS SURVIVE INDIANA RALLY

The Los Angeles Lakers blew a 23-point lead to hold off the Indiana Pacers, 88-86 to improve to 2-2.

LA was up 70-47 before the Pacers went on a 30-8 run to cut the Lakers' lead down to 78-77. Horry's jumper put LA up 80-77. Ron Artest's 3-pointer cut LA's lead to 85-84, and Jamaal Tinsley's layup gave the Pacers for the lead for their lead of the game. A few missed jumpers later, Horry hit a long jumper with 11.7 seconds left to give the lead back to Los Angeles, 87-86.

On the next Pacers possesion, Horry intercepted a pass and gave it to Devean George, who was fouled. George made the 1st but missed the 2nd, however, Mihm got the rebound. Mihm missed both freethrows, leaving the door open for Indiana. O'Neal received the inbounds pass but his long 2 backrimmed.

Kwame Brown had another double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Lamar Odom scored 21 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. Von Wafer was injured during the game, and team doctors announced that he will be out 13 days.

LAKERS BLOW LEAD, DROP ONE TO SACRAMENTO

Kwame Brown continued his strong play, but the Lakers blew a big lead to drop to 2-3 after a 90-84 loss at Arco Arena. Brown had 24 points, 17 rebounds and 9 blocks, but poor shooting and turnovers led the Lakers to their downfall. Although they were able to put up a fight towards the end of the game, Francisco Garcia and Peja Stojakovic each hit huge jumpers to put out any hopes of a Laker comeback.

LAKER DEFENSE STUBMLES, BIG THREE SCORES ABOVE 20

Maybe Kobe Bryant and Von Wafer's injury is starting to take its toll on the team. They lose a scorer, a shooting and a defender. The Lakers needed all three tonight to stop the Nets. Unfortunately, not much points were put up and no defense was played as the New Jersey Nets blew past the LA Lakers, 104-88.

The Nets' Big Three of Vince Carter, Richard Jefferson and Jason Kidd scored over 20 points each.

Kwame Brown continued his strong play but fouled out with 4:47 in the game.

After the game, Phil Jackson had this to say about his team:
"Very horrible game we played today. No passion, no heart, no energy. It's like they are giving up after Kobe and Von went down with injury. They are not the only guys on the team. Plus, I do not understand why we have to shoot all these 3-pointers. Just very horrible."

The Lakers now go to Philadelphia to play their 2nd of back-to-back games, and do not return home until November 27.

Horry’s huge game leads Lakers to win thriller

This isn’t Transylvania, its Pennsylvania. Nevertheless, it was a thriller to watch as Robert Horry’s huge 2nd half lifted the Los Angeles Lakers to a win over the Philadelphia 76ers, 109-106. Horry had 29 points to lead the Lakers in scoring.

Kyle Korver and Andre Igoudala scored 34 and 28, respectively, to make up for the bad season Allen Iverson has been having. Korver is currently the leader in scoring for the 76ers this season. He shot 5-of-7 from downtown during this game.

The Lakers and the 76ers were trading baskets in the 4th quarter with the Lakers getting no closer than 5 points. However, 2 baskets by Lamar Odom and Horry’s huge layup gave the Lakers the lead for good at 107-106.

Igoudala’s 3-pointer at the buzzer was short.

Aaron Mckie scored 5 points and dished out 6 assists in his return to Philly.
