Re: 4-1 vs NYK | HEAT | Game Three and Four and Five

Tue Mar 22, 2011 6:33 pm

LeBron's doing it all. The Greatness that is Joel Anthony is sweating more than Chuck Norris.

I think no one ever had any doubts bout the series, and I also don't have any doubts for the Hawks series.

Cs and Lakers are the only teams that could stop you.

Sit, the Rupaul of bigs definitely cried ;)

The first round of the Playoffs has come and gone with many predictable results and one of the biggest upsets in NBA history with the Charlotte Bobcats beating the Boston Celtics in 7 games.

We'll be taking a closer look at who led their team and who failed to do so.

Studs :

Image

Kobe Bryant | LA Lakers | Defeated Oklahoma City Thunder in 6 games
32.3 PPG | 8.7 RPG | 6.2 APG | 3.0 SPG | 0.7 BPG

Kobe had a triple-double in the first game and kept the pedal in the metal as he averaged impressive numbers all across in the six games. Kevin Durant led the Thunder to 2 wins, but couldn't match Kobe's efforts.

Image

LeBron James | Miami Heat | Defeated New York Knicks in 5 games
30.8 PPG | 6.5 RPG | 7.8 APG | 2.0 SPG | 2.2 BPG

The possible league MVP dominated the Knicks with 56 points in the Garden and 17 assists in the final game of the series. He averaged over 2 blocks and steals, showing he really wants to win a title in his first year with the Heat. He did get a lot of help from Dwyane Wade, who averaged 25.8 points. Add solid contributions from Chris Bosh and their sharp-shooter Kyle Korver and the Knicks never really had a chance.

Image

Brandon Jennings | Milwaukee Bucks | Defeated Orlando Magic in 6 games
25.8 PPG | 5.2 RPG | 8.0 APG | 2.3 SPG | 0.0 BPG

The Bucks were up against a very tough Orlando team, but Brandon Jennings brought 'Fear the Deer' back to Milwaukee with a very impressive series and leading the Bucks over the Magic in 6 games. Jennings averaged nearly 26 points and exactly 8 assists. The Magic couldn't even be rescued by Dwight Howard, who averaged 24 points and 15 rebounds.

Image

Deron Williams | Utah Jazz | Defeated Dallas Mavericks in 5 games
23.4 PPG | 7.8 RPG | 10.0 APG | 3.0 SPG | 0.4 BPG

Williams almost single-handedly led the Jazz over the Mavs, which wasn't an easy task. Dirk averaged 26 ppg and Jason Terry averaged 22, but Deron was top-notch throughout the series. He also was solid defensively, as Jason Kidd averaged just 2.3 points.

Image

Gerald Wallace | Charlotte Bobcats | Defeated Boston Celtics in 7 games
20.4 PPG | 12.0 RPG | 0.4 APG | 1.3 SPG | 1.0 BPG

It was Stephen Jackson in the regular season who dominated, getting his first All-Star start in February, but Gerald Wallace was a double-double machine. He had 6 double-doubles in the series, including 25 points and 13 rebounds in game #7. The Cats won 89-87. Jackson wasn't too shabby either, averaging 21.9 points and 7.3 rebounds.

Image

Carmelo Anthony | Denver Nuggets | Defeated Rockets in 5 games
23.4 PPG | 10.4 RPG | 2.2 APG | 1.0 SPG | 0.6 BPG

In what might be the last Play-off run for Carmelo in a Nuggets uniform, he started things superbly. The Nuggets were on fire offensively, passing the 120-point mark twice. The Rockets didn't have a shot in the Playoffs as they were no match for the Nuggets defense.

Image

Manu Ginobili | San Antonio Spurs | Defeated Hornets in 5 games
31.2 PPG | 7.4 RPG | 5.8 APG | 3.8 SPG | 0.8 BPG

Manu had an unforgettable series against the Hornets and the experienced Spurs crushed the Hornets. With the exception of a 33-point loss in game #3, the Spurs didn't allow the Hornets to play their game.

Duds :

Image

Amar'e Stoudemire | New York Knicks | Eliminated by Miami in 5 games
12.8 PPG | 7.8 RPG | 3.0 APG | 1.2 SPG | 0.6 BPG

The picture sais it all about Amar'e first Play-off series as a Knick. He was expected to have a huge first round against the Heat, who have a weak front-court and were missing their best defender in the PF position in Udonis Haslem. But Joel Anthony stopped the All-Star starter. Amar'e was in foul trouble in 2 games and in the other games, he was limited. He didn't pass 20 points once in the series.

Image

Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett | Eliminated by Charlotte in 7 games
Pierce
15.4 PPG | 6.1 RPG | 1.9 APG | 1.6 SPG | 0.3 BPG
Allen
13.0 PPG | 2.3 RPG | 0.6 APG | 0.4 SPG | 0.0 BPG
Garnett
12.3 PPG | 8.6 RPG | 1.3 APG | 1.3 SPG 2.7 BPG

The #1 seeded Celtics were eliminated in the first round, making them just the second team in NBA history to be eliminated by a #8 seed since the first round switched to a best of 7. Last year's finalists Celtics did very poorly against one of the worst offenses in the league. The Big Three struggled a lot. The only solid players for the Celtics were Rajon Rondo (13.4 ppg, 8.1 rpg, 7.1 apg), Shaq (12.3 ppg, 8.1 rpg) and Nate Robinson (9.1 ppg) off the bench.

Nice preview (Y) Let's go Hawks  Just kidding, beat them in 6.
About East. Bucks, Bobcats, Heat and Hawks in second round? Can't wait for a Finals with Heat.

Definitely looking like a good path to the finals for you. Bucks and Bobcats can't hang, so thing look good if you can get past the Hawks. Good luck!

Baron in Atlanta, nice. (Y) As Grandmama said, if you win here then it's a clean path to the Finals.

Thierry •, he was injured for about 50 games. The same reason why Wade, Rose aren't mentioned on any of the All-NBA teams, that damn injury bug.

Surprising to see Gasol beat Howard to the NBA 1st team. I usually think Dwight has the strongest lock on the 1st team, since he's so much better than most of the other NBA centers. That said, will be interesting to see how he responds next year!

Most Valuable Player - LeBron James | Miami Heat
28.6 PPG | 8.0 RPG | 7.4 APG | 2.3 SPG | 1.5 BPG | .514 FG | .781 FT | .395 3PT

LeBron captured his third straight MVP award after leading the Heat to the second seed in the East with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. The Heat missed Dwyane Wade for 6 weeks, but LeBron didn't let the Heat slip in the standings. In his first season with the Heat, he broke numerous franchise records, including Glen Rice's scoring record of 55, which he broke twice. He racked up 5 triple-doubles and his all-around numbers are still amazing. He also became the first player in franchise history to win the MVP award.

Image

Rookie of the Year - Blake Griffin | Los Angeles Clippers
12.6 PPG | 9.1 RPG | 1.1 APG | 0.8 SPG | 0.3 BPG | .534 FG | .545 FT | .500 3PT

With John Wall missing most of the season due to injury, Blake was the front-runner for the award. His numbers weren't outlandish, but they were consistent. The Blake Show racked up 38 double-doubles and provided many highlight-reel dunks for the Clipper fans, who enjoyed another season which got them destined for a high lottery pick. The future looks bright for the Clippernation with Griffin, Gordon, Bledsoe and whoever joins them in this years draft. To keep their young core intact, they need to keep DeAndre Jordan.

Image

Defensive Player of the Year - Josh Smith | Atlanta Hawks
14.2 PPG | 10.7 RPG | 3.0 APG | 1.6 SPG | 2.0 BPG | .511 FG | .673 FT | .292 3PT

Before the season started, Dwight Howard was the unanimous vote to get this award, but Josh Smith proved them wrong. Anchoring the Hawks defense, Smith received nearly 75% of the first place votes. He had 11 games with 5+ blocks and even achieved the extremely rare 5-by-5 in a win over the Rockets. Smith will have his hands full with Chris Bosh and LeBron James in the Conference semis.

Image

Sixth Man of the Year - Evan Turner | Philadelphia 76ers
10.4 PPG | 5.7 RPG | 2.5 APG | 0.8 SPG | 0.4 BPG | .408 FG | .764 FT | .289 3PT

Evan Turner became the second rookie in league history to win the 6th man award after Ben Gordon. Turner didn't shoot the ball very well, but showed why he was the National Player of the Year with the Buckeyes. Turner was a consistent rebounder and often ran the point for Doug Collins. He was responsible for the only rookie triple-double this season, when he posted 13 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists for the Sixers in a win against the Bobcats. Despite Turner's efforts, the Sixers managed just 31 wins, just 4 more then the season before.

Image

Most Improved Player - Jonny Flynn | Minnesota Timberwolves
18.3 PPG | 2.1 RPG | 6.9 APG | 1.6 SPG | 0.0 BPG | .435 FG | .818 FT | .326 3PT

Flynn surprisingly was a fringe All-Star this season, posting numbers many thought he would never average in this league. Next to Flynn, no other member of the T-Wolves had anything to brag about with Flynn being the only consistent player for the 29-win Wolves.

Image

Coach of the Year - Doc Rivers | Boston Celtics
59-23 | 1 Div | 1 Conf

Doc led the Celtics to the best record in the East and second best in the league, but the award is probably meaningless to Rivers now, whose Celtics are watching the rest of the Playoffs at home after being eliminated by the #8 seed Bobcats.
