The first round of the Playoffs has come and gone with many predictable results and one of the biggest upsets in NBA history with the Charlotte Bobcats beating the Boston Celtics in 7 games.
We'll be taking a closer look at who led their team and who failed to do so.
Studs :
Kobe Bryant | LA Lakers | Defeated Oklahoma City Thunder in 6 games
32.3 PPG | 8.7 RPG | 6.2 APG | 3.0 SPG | 0.7 BPGKobe had a triple-double in the first game and kept the pedal in the metal as he averaged impressive numbers all across in the six games. Kevin Durant led the Thunder to 2 wins, but couldn't match Kobe's efforts.
LeBron James | Miami Heat | Defeated New York Knicks in 5 games
30.8 PPG | 6.5 RPG | 7.8 APG | 2.0 SPG | 2.2 BPGThe possible league MVP dominated the Knicks with 56 points in the Garden and 17 assists in the final game of the series. He averaged over 2 blocks and steals, showing he really wants to win a title in his first year with the Heat. He did get a lot of help from Dwyane Wade, who averaged 25.8 points. Add solid contributions from Chris Bosh and their sharp-shooter Kyle Korver and the Knicks never really had a chance.
Brandon Jennings | Milwaukee Bucks | Defeated Orlando Magic in 6 games
25.8 PPG | 5.2 RPG | 8.0 APG | 2.3 SPG | 0.0 BPGThe Bucks were up against a very tough Orlando team, but Brandon Jennings brought 'Fear the Deer' back to Milwaukee with a very impressive series and leading the Bucks over the Magic in 6 games. Jennings averaged nearly 26 points and exactly 8 assists. The Magic couldn't even be rescued by Dwight Howard, who averaged 24 points and 15 rebounds.
Deron Williams | Utah Jazz | Defeated Dallas Mavericks in 5 games
23.4 PPG | 7.8 RPG | 10.0 APG | 3.0 SPG | 0.4 BPGWilliams almost single-handedly led the Jazz over the Mavs, which wasn't an easy task. Dirk averaged 26 ppg and Jason Terry averaged 22, but Deron was top-notch throughout the series. He also was solid defensively, as Jason Kidd averaged just 2.3 points.
Gerald Wallace | Charlotte Bobcats | Defeated Boston Celtics in 7 games
20.4 PPG | 12.0 RPG | 0.4 APG | 1.3 SPG | 1.0 BPGIt was Stephen Jackson in the regular season who dominated, getting his first All-Star start in February, but Gerald Wallace was a double-double machine. He had 6 double-doubles in the series, including 25 points and 13 rebounds in game #7. The Cats won 89-87. Jackson wasn't too shabby either, averaging 21.9 points and 7.3 rebounds.
Carmelo Anthony | Denver Nuggets | Defeated Rockets in 5 games
23.4 PPG | 10.4 RPG | 2.2 APG | 1.0 SPG | 0.6 BPGIn what might be the last Play-off run for Carmelo in a Nuggets uniform, he started things superbly. The Nuggets were on fire offensively, passing the 120-point mark twice. The Rockets didn't have a shot in the Playoffs as they were no match for the Nuggets defense.
Manu Ginobili | San Antonio Spurs | Defeated Hornets in 5 games
31.2 PPG | 7.4 RPG | 5.8 APG | 3.8 SPG | 0.8 BPGManu had an unforgettable series against the Hornets and the experienced Spurs crushed the Hornets. With the exception of a 33-point loss in game #3, the Spurs didn't allow the Hornets to play their game.
Duds :
Amar'e Stoudemire | New York Knicks | Eliminated by Miami in 5 games
12.8 PPG | 7.8 RPG | 3.0 APG | 1.2 SPG | 0.6 BPGThe picture sais it all about Amar'e first Play-off series as a Knick. He was expected to have a huge first round against the Heat, who have a weak front-court and were missing their best defender in the PF position in Udonis Haslem. But Joel Anthony stopped the All-Star starter. Amar'e was in foul trouble in 2 games and in the other games, he was limited. He didn't pass 20 points once in the series.
Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett | Eliminated by Charlotte in 7 games
Pierce
15.4 PPG | 6.1 RPG | 1.9 APG | 1.6 SPG | 0.3 BPG
Allen
13.0 PPG | 2.3 RPG | 0.6 APG | 0.4 SPG | 0.0 BPG
Garnett
12.3 PPG | 8.6 RPG | 1.3 APG | 1.3 SPG 2.7 BPGThe #1 seeded Celtics were eliminated in the first round, making them just the second team in NBA history to be eliminated by a #8 seed since the first round switched to a best of 7. Last year's finalists Celtics did very poorly against one of the worst offenses in the league. The Big Three struggled a lot. The only solid players for the Celtics were Rajon Rondo (13.4 ppg, 8.1 rpg, 7.1 apg), Shaq (12.3 ppg, 8.1 rpg) and Nate Robinson (9.1 ppg) off the bench.
