Free Agent Signing Over
With the last of the high profile Free Agents signed and trades finished, I've decided to enlighten you all on the big moves which happened during the offseason with some articles from the clubs websites.
Charlotte used their huge salarycap space to capture ex Detroit Piston Ben Wallace today. Wallace, one of the biggest names in this years free agent market announced his desire to play in the leagues newest team.
'I know its not going to be easy, but I'm proud of my time as a Piston and I am thankfull that they gave me a second chance to kick start my career. I'm really looking forward to teaming up with Emeka Okafor down low, and if I have my way the Bobcats will be leading the league in blocks when the seasons done.'
Charlotte signed Wallace to a 4 year deal in which he will be earning over 12 million dollars a year. Also adding an average of 11 points, 10 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2.4 blocks per game.
Chicago made 2 crucial signings over the off season, signing Bobby Simmons and familar face and crowd favourite Eddy Curry. Simmons signing a 2 year deal for an undisclosed amount of cash, Curry signed for just under $6 mil for 5 years.
'I cant believe I'm back' Said Curry, 'I thought I'de never be back here, but I have proven over the last year that I am healthy and I'm ready to go with all my old friends again' In 56 games last year Curry averaged 10 points, 11 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game.
Simmons on the other hand couldnt wait to get out of Milwaukee. 'It was a mistake to play for the Bucks, my stats didnt tell it but I was very uncomfortable playing under Coach Stotts and running plays around a rookie on the block, I'm happy I've landed at Chicago, I'm not really happy about conceeding my starting position, but I will take it on the chin and do whats best for the team.'
Simmons was averaging 19.7 points, 9.7 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.6 steals per game, he will add the much needed depth on the Bulls roster.
In other shock move over the break, Michael Redd has also turned his back on the Milwaukee Bucks and has aligned himself with the New Orleans/ Oklahoma City Hornets.
'I enjoyed my time at Milwaukee, I met alot of great people and friends, but the motivation to play for the worst club in the league was gone, I'm in a new conference and with a great young and up and comming team, and I cant wait to play with Chris Paul, I'll getting plenty of open looks with that guy driving the lane.
Redd signed with the Hornets for 6 years earning over 6 and a half million a year, he does have the numbers to back it up though averaging 21.6 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.2 steals to game.
Gordan Giricek signed with the Indiana Pacers today, turning his back on the Utah Jazz, Giricek signed a 2 year, 4 million dollar a year deal to be back up off guard for Stephen Jackson.
Starting in every game he played this year Giricek averaged 14.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.2 steals per game.
In other news, Donyell Marshall agreed to re-sign with the Cleveland Cavaliers, he will be earning 8 million over the 1 year contract.
The depleated Milwaukee Bucks managed to sign Bonzi Wells to a 2 year 6.21 million a year deal, his averages of 11 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.4 steals will help him slot nicely into the starting 5.
Von Wafer signed with the Golden State Warriors for 1 year, worth just under a million dollars, his averages of 2.3 points and 2.0 assists will help him get a perminant spot on the roster.
Last years rookie challenge participant Ike Diogu could be representing a new team at next year rookie game when he signed with the Portland Trailblazers. Terms of the deal are not known but did have good rookie numbers with 6.7 points and 5.4 rebounds.
Nazr Mohammed signed with the Utah Jazz today, signing for 3 years and an undisclosed amount of cash, he bring to the Jazz solid number of 4 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game.
In trading news, the Denver Nuggets have sent Earl Boykins to Atlanta for Josh Childress, many could not understand why the Nuggets would draft a 4th point guard, but it all made sense today with this deal taking place, Childress leaves the Hawks averaging 3.5 points and 3.4 rebounds per game, as for Boykins he finishes with 6 points and 3.2 assists.
