Gilbert Arenas is the perfect franchise player for the "BULLETS" Why is he the 6th man though

Re: A New Lamrock Joint | NBA Finals!

Fri Mar 19, 2010 3:02 pm

dare, We'll see. He is the #2 PG prospect in the draft.

De8, Azzdogs, Thanks guys.

Clutch, Yeah, their court and jerseys are so bad, that I can make better ones with create-a-team. Plus the whole Arenas thing was too good to resist.

Sit, Thanks for checking in Sit. I'm optimistic about this one. May need to acquire one.

Valor, Very true. Sucks I had to get rid of Crittenton, but it wouldn't be a Lamrock dynasty without Salim. As for Arenas' 6th man status, the reason will be revealed soon enough, but I'm sure someone will figure out the reason

Until Arenas starts im not following :P Nice choice of team. I like the roster, will be interesting to see if Dray and McGee can develop into legit contributors (Y)

The Return of the Bullets and... the Sonics?!

[ Image ] [ Image ]

My grand plan in all of this was to bring back the Bullets, but pull a fast one and make them the Washington State Bullets, relocating the team to Seattle. Looks like that won't be necessary. Bill Gates made a stunning bid to purchase the Thunder franchise, and will be bringing back the Sonics. The team will retain its colors, but will alter the logo and jerseys slightly. I'm stoked. This also means that the Bullets will be staying in Washington.

I've been working on the jerseys for the team, but I haven't gotten too far. I experimented with a multitude of color schemes, but they all looked shitty. Black & gold was a bust, teal was abolished for a reason, and in the end, I gave up on bring original. I decided to go with red, white & blue, but added gold to the jersey for an added touch. For the logo, I talked with Liam and we agreed on a jet inside of a basketball. Stern agreed that we could go back to being the bullets as long as the jerseys didn't say the word "bullets". Don't know what that is, but we opted to put the logo on the jersey.

The primary focus though, is putting some good players into those tacky (but less tacky than the Wizard) jerseys. Though we have a decent amount of cap room for this Summer, (the recently became majority owner) Raul Fernandez told me we can't sign any major free agents this year. I opted to rebel and accept the hefty final year option on Josh Howard. He was thrilled at the news. Now we have a solid trade chip expiring and a guy who will likely enjoy a fantastic contract year. Quinton Ross unsurprisingly accepted the final year of his contract, and I gave Mike Miller a 3 year, $10 million extension. I let Randy Foye, Fabricio (Oh boy!) Oberto and Earl Boykins walk.

NLSC Draftees

Though the top of my draft list is populated by John Wall, Evan Turner, Wesley Johnson, DeMarcus Cousins and Donatas Motiejunas, my scouts gave me some info on a few lesser known prospects. Point guards William Sit & Thierry Tirieux, swingman Leo Lai and big men Martti Must, Julian Martin and Ray Lliach may be a stretch at #7, but could prove to be very intriguing prospects.

[ Image ] William Sit (Australia)
PG/SG | Age 21 | 6'4", 200 lbs - Projected Mid First Rounder
The Aussie point guard is a shoot-first point guard with decent size and defensive prowess. He has a big ego and loves to take the big shots. Sound familiar? Sit, nicknamed "Fresh" dominated the Australian league, and is ready to take it to the next level. In a shallow point guard draft, Sit figured to be a mid-first rounder. However, his potential and personality could prove to be red flags. If he's available at 30, we'd probably take him.
NBA Comparison: Poor man's Gilbert Arenas

[ Image ] Thierry Tirieux (France)
PG | Age 19 | 6'3", 185 lbs - Projected Late First Rounder
Thierry Tirieux is a raw French point guard with fantastic speed and athleticism. His jump shot and play-making abilities are both very limited at this point, but he has a lot of room to grow. Tirieux probably won't be a rotation player for a few years, but he has the upside to become something special. He's far to raw to take a punt on in the lottery, but he could be a fantastic steal in the second round. His game is reminiscent of fellow French point guard Rodrigue Beaubois.
NBA Comparison: Rodrigue Beaubois

[ Image ] Leo Lai (Hong Kong)
SG/PG | Age 19 | 6'6", 175 lbs - Projected Mid-Late First Rounder
Hong Kong's Leo Lai is a huge Kobe Bryant fan. He wears the same number, plays the same way and cites him as his favorite player. Lai has established himself as the Chinese version of Kobe Bryant, and is ready to take his game to the states. Lai is a fantastic scorer, tremendous athlete and serviceable defender. Problem is, he's only 175 lbs! He has great size for a point guard, but at his true position, we will be eaten alive until he bulks up. This guy is worth keeping an eye on though.
NBA Comparison: Kobe Bryant (90's)

[ Image ] Martti Must (Memphis)
PF/C| Age 20 | 6'9", 225 lbs - Projected Late First Rounder/Early Second Rounder
Martti Must is the quintessential second rounder. An unathletic, hard-working white guy who can shoot and rebound. Must had a very solid sophomore season at Memphis and has opted to apply for the draft. Must is slow, questionable on defense and doesn't seem to have superstar potential. However, the guy has heart, decent stroke from outside and can rebound with the best of them. Must looks to fit the Matt Bonner/Scalabrine mold, but must just develop into a Troy Murphy or David Lee.
NBA Comparison: Matt Bonner

[ Image ] Julian Martin (UCLA)
C | Age 21 | 6'9", 255 lbs - Projected Early-Mid Second Rounder
UCLA's Julian Martin is a solid rebounding and defensive big man. Martin is a complete liability on the offensive end, but his talents on the defensive end should get him an NBA contract. Martin likens his game to that of Ben Wallace (multiple time all-star and Defensive player of the Year who went undrafted), but he looks more like Reggie Evans to me. With our lowest pick being #37, I'll consider taking him there, but utility players like him seem to be a dime a dozen.
NBA Comparison: Reggie Evans/poor man's Ben Wallace

[ Image ] Ray Lliach (Minnesota)
C | Age 19 | 6'11", 245 lbs - Projected Late First Rounder
Ray Lliach is a solid young defensive Center out of Minnesota, much like Portland's Joel Przybilla. Lliach is projected to go in the late first round, but he could rise up the draft board due to the rarity of decent big men. Lliach's best asset is his rebounding, but he racks up a decent amount of blocks and (surprisingly steals), and is a decent passer. I can see Lliach being a solid contributor on a contending team like the Spurs.
NBA Comparison: Joel Przybilla

2010 NBA Draft

The 2010 NBA draft has come and gone, and overall, I'd say it went okay. We ended up with Lithuanian big man Donatas Motiejunas, mercurial shooting guard Lance Stephenson, and my brother, the great Liam Washburn. There weren't too many surprises overall, with the top three going Wall-Turner-Johnson. However, we did see guys like Al-Farouq Aminu, Derrick Favors and Xavier Henry taken significantly later than projected. I don't have anything better to do, so here is my take on the draft:

[ Image ] 1. John Wall (Kentucky)
This pick was a no-brainer. With T.J. Ford's descent into irrelevance and the Pacers' lack of a true superstar (Granger is an injury prone second option), Wall is a necessity for this franchise. The past five years have been hellish for the once perennially good team. If John Wall is as good as people say he is, he could be the savior for this team. If not, they may need another telethon.
Projected Role: Starting PG | Draft Grade: A
[ Image ] 2. Evan Turner (Ohio State)
This must have been an easy pick for the Jazz. Turner was the sure-fire second best player in the draft, and should be the shooting guard they've been waiting years for. Turner, a combo guard compared to Brandon Roy, was a triple-double machine in college, and could be the final key to Utah's championship puzzle. If they resign Boozer, they could overtake Denver and Portland for best team in the Northwest status.
Projected Role: Starting SG | Draft Grade: A
[ Image ] 3. Wesley Johnson (Syracuse)
I would have probably taken DeMarcus Cousins in their shoes, but the Nets made a perfectly sensible pick in Syracuse's Wesley Johnson. Johnson is a talented swingman, who may not start right away, but should shore up the team's SF spot for years to come. Their core of Johnson, Devin Harris, Brook Lopez and cap space is a solid one, and the tean should at least quadruple their wins this year.
Projected Role: Backup SF/SG | Draft Grade: B+
[ Image ] 4. Cole Aldrich (Kansas)
The Timberwolves were disappointed to see New Jersey take their man Wesley Johnson, and opted for Cole Aldrich, a serviceable Center about a half dozen spots too high. This pick likely means the end of the Love-Jefferson tandem is near. With Aldrich's limited potential and the availability of DeMarcus Cousins and Derrick Favors, this pick is baffling to say the least.
Projected Role: Backup C | Draft Grade: D
[ Image ] 5. Greg Monroe (Georgetown)
I half-expected the Warriors to take Xavier Henry (and play him at the 4), but they made the sensible pick (albeit a stretch) in Monroe. Greg Monroe is a PF/C, who will almost certainly play the 5. Though Monroe was not the best player available, he should be a good fit for Don Nelson's system. In their shoes, I would have probably taken Favors or Cousins and traded down, but this is acceptable.
Projected Role: Backup C/PF | Draft Grade: C+
[ Image ] 6. DeMarcus Cousins (Kentucky)
Damn. My guy went a spot higher. The Kings made a great selection in replacing the soft, counter-productive Spencer Hawes with a beast in Cousins. Cousins will likely come off the bench at first, but should steal the starting spot fairly quickly. The trio of Tyreke Evans, Carl Landry and DeMarcus Cousins should be a major threat in a couple years. Great pick.
Projected Role: Backup C/PF | Draft Grade: A+
[ Image ] 7. Donatas Motiejunas (Lithuania)
I almost took Favors with this pick, but I was unimpressed by him in the workout, and enamored with Motiejunas. Motiejunas was my backup plan in case Cousins was taken, and I stand by it. Motiejunas is a bit raw, and can't defend, but I love his game, and think he can be something special. He's a project, but I see him developing at a similar pace to Andrea Bargnani, with Andray Blatche starting in the meantime. Most NBA sites are bashing this pick, but I'll show 'em.
Projected Role: Backup PF | Draft Grade: N/A
[ Image ] 8. Hassan Whiteside (Marshall)
Looks like I wasn't the only one to pass on Favors. The Pistons, who already have $12 million a year invested long-term into two mediocre power forwards opted to take the project Center. Whiteside probably won't start of contribute much immediately, but if he develops, he could end up saving Joe Dumars' job and legacy. That said, I would have taken Aminu or Favors.
Projected Role: Backup C | Draft Grade: B-
[ Image ] 9. Derrick Favors (Georgia Tech)
Now things have gotten interesting. The Clippers wisely scooped up the slipping Derrick Favors. Unfortunately, he played the same position as their highly touted #1 pick Blake Griffin (who missed all of last season with a broken kneecap). It will be interesting to see how the team balances the minutes and manages the two players. Don't be surprised to see this guy traded.
Projected Role: Backup PF/C | Draft Grade: B
[ Image ] 10. Patrick Patterson (Kentucky)
Philadelphia must have been disappointed to see the Clippers pick up Favors. They ended up making a solid, level-headed pick in Patrick Patterson, however, keeping up with the team's trend of solid draft picks. While Aminu was likely the best available talent, the Sixers have a logjam at the position. Patterson will back-up and likely succeed the aging, injury-prone Elton Brand.
Projected Role: Backup PF | Draft Grade: A
[ Image ] 11. Al-Farouq Aminu (Wake Forest)
The Bucks must be happy with how their deadline trade with the Bulls panned out. They made it to the second round of the playoffs, got fantastic production from John Salmons, and managed to get their SF of the future in Aminu. Meanwhile, the Bulls fell apart to finish the season, and will pick 18th. If they come up short in free agency or give Joe Johnson the max, I will laugh. I love this pick and the Bucks' future.
Projected Role: Backup SF | Draft Grade: A+
[ Image ] 12. Leo Lai (Hong Kong) (Valor)
Lai shot up draft boards with impressive workouts, but few expected the Chinese guard to go this high. The perennially swingman challenged Hornets opted for the confident young prospect out of Hong Kong. Lai is very athletic and talented, but also raw and lanky. Lai will likely come off the bench behind Marcus Thornton, but shouldn't have too much of a problem usurping the starting spot in a year or two.
Projected Role: Backup SG | Draft Grade: B-
[ Image ] 13. William Sit (Australia) (Sit)
With Mike Conley's continually disappointing play, the Memphis Grizzlies wanted a fresh face at the PG position. Look no further than William "fresh" Sit. The shoot-first Aussie point guard was the Kobe of the NBL, and he thinks his game will translate to the NBA. "Kobe went 13, I went 13. Kobe was a superstar. I'm gonna be a superstar. Coincidence? I think not,", remarked Sit. Sit is larger, a better defender and has more swagger than Conley, and I think this was a good pick. I actually considered trading up for the guy, but I opted against it.
Projected Role: Backup PG/SG | Draft Grade: B+
[ Image ] 14. Ed Davis (North Carolina)
The more big men, the merrier for the Rockets. When your franchise player is the extremely injury-prone Yao Ming, its good to have other prospects. Davis is a PF/C who may not crack the rotation immediately, but is a solid young player and should help the team down the line. However, with Xavier Henry still available, I would have probably opted to back-up the team's injury prone star SG Kevin Martin.
Projected Role: Third-String PF/C | Draft Grade: C+
[ Image ] 15. Willie Warren (Oklahoma)
[ Image ] 16. Thierry Tirieux (France) (Thierry.)
Anticipating the departure of starting point guard Raymond Felton, the Bobcats opted for the best available point guard. Unfortunately, that point guard was Thierry Tirieux, a lightning fast, but extremely raw prospect, who is far from NBA ready. I expected Tirieux to be a decent steal at the end of the first round/beginning of the second, and considered grabbing him, but at #17, he's a stretch.
Projected Role: Backup PG | Draft Grade: C-
[ Image ] 17. Ray Lliach (Minnesota) (Cartar)
Yet another NLSC'er goes several spots higher than projected. Lliach is a serviceable Center out of Minnesota akin to Portland's Joel Przybilla. He doesn't have star potential, but could easily become a starting Center in the league. Though I would have probably gone with the best player available in Xavier Henry, this is a solid pick. With Jermaine O'Neal possibly leaving, and being a washed-up, injury prone turd these days, this could be a great situation for Lliach.
Projected Role: Backup C | Draft Grade: B+
[ Image ] 18. Larry Sanders (VCU)
[ Image ] 19. Xavier Henry (Kansas)
[ Image ] 20. Paul George (Fresno State)
[ Image ] 21. Devin Ebanks (West Virginia)
[ Image ] 22. Kalin Lucas (Michigan State)
[ Image ] 23. Gani Lawal (Georgia Tech)
[ Image ] 24. Avery Bradley (Texas)
[ Image ] 25. Martti Must (Memphis)
(Martti.)
The Atlanta Hawks made a very solid pick Memphis Tiger Martti Must. Must is a PF/C who can rebound very well and has a very good outside shot. Must is fairly NBA ready, and should be a solid cog on this fringe-contender Hawks team. He's not the most athletic of players, but is a hard-worker, and should turn out to be a solid pro. Could be one of the steals of the draft.
Projected Role: Backup PF | Draft Grade: A-
[ Image ] 26. Tyshawn Taylor (Kansas)
[ Image ] 27. Craig Brackins (Iowa State)
[ Image ] 28. James Anderson (Oklahoma State)
[ Image ] 29. Jerome Dyson (Connecticut)
[ Image ] 30. Lance Stephenson (Cincinnati)

With the final pick of the first round, I went with Lance Stephenson out of Cincinnati. Stephenson is a talented shooting guard with an extremely unlikeable personality. Just the kind of player I'm looking for. I'm trying to bring in Larry Hughes as a mentor. I think he can be a rotation guy in a year or two, and his fiery personality should bring some much needed toughness to this team. Just hope that he and Arenas don't have a Mexican standoff.
Projected Role: Third-String SG | Draft Grade: N/A
----------
[ Image ] 31. Kyle Singler (Duke)
[ Image ] 32. Damion James (Texas)
[ Image ] 33. Solomon Alabi (Florida State)
[ Image ] 34. Jarvis Varnado (Mississippi State)
[ Image ] 35. John Henson (North Carolina)
[ Image ] 36. Sylven Landesburg (Virginia)
[ Image ] 37. Liam Washburn (Washington)

With the #37 pick I selected my brother. We agreed that it would be wise to sign a 2nd round pick so I can give him a bigger salary. I was a bit worried that another team would take him, but I suppose white, un-athletic 6'4" PF's are out of style. Considering that he's still growing and developing into a small forward, I think this pick will pay dividends. I'll have to make sure he gets his minutes.
Projected Role: Third String SF/PF | Draft Grade: N/A
[ Image ] 38. Stanley Robinson (Connecticut)
[ Image ] 39. Tyler Smith (Tennessee)
[ Image ] 40. Trevor Booker (Clemson)
[ Image ] 41. Kemba Walker (Connecticut)
[ Image ] 42. Julian Martin (UCLA)
(dare)
UCLA's Julian Martin will join fellow NLSC'er Leo Lai in New Orleans. Martin is a solid rebounding and defensive big man with little to no offensive game. Due to the Hornets' extreme lack of depth, and the presence of Chris Paul, this is a perfect situation for Martin. Paul will make him look better than he is on the offensive end, while getting a decent amount of minutes for a 2nd rounder. Martin should have a solid rookie year and is a good pick.
Projected Role: Backup C/PF | Draft Grade: A
[ Image ] 43. Jerome Jordan (Tulsa)
[ Image ] 44. Michael Washington (Arkansas)
[ Image ] 45. Jan Vesely (Czech Republic)
[ Image ] 46. Grant Maxey (Jackson State)
[ Image ] 47. Quincy Pondexter (Washington)
[ Image ] 48. Dexter Pittman (Texas)
[ Image ] 49. Kenneth Faried (Morehead Hate)
[ Image ] 50. Lazar Hayward (Marquette)
[ Image ] 51. Sherron Collins (Kansas)
[ Image ] 52. Malcolm Lee (UCLA)
[ Image ] 53. J.P. Prince (Tennessee)
[ Image ] 54. William Buford (Ohio State)

Memphis aint really a team I would play for but I can't deny it's a great opportuniity for me to come in and show what I got so that I can make a move to the Lakers.

More about me and Kobe. We both wear 8. Jerry West has been involved with both LA and Memphis in the past.

Good, Bobcats. Happened with dare's old story too.

Pondexter, Jerome Jordan, Washington all got picked in the 1st round in my Pacers (Pondexter went 9th)

Sit, I might do what X did, and give players trade leverage for longevity/performance in playoff prediction challenges. You would be a great fit in LA. (Y)

Thierry., Q-Pon is awesome though. He's leading #11 UW to an upset against #3 New Mexico as we speak! I tuned my draft class a lot for realistic results. Very happy with how it panned out, though the NLSC'ers went a little higher than expected.

Well, I took the top 6 participants who sent me draft profiles for Nellieball, and those with the most points had the best rookies. Even though Valor was taken a pick before Sit, Sit's rookie is the best (in terms of current overall and potential).

Disregard what Lamrock said to justify my awesomeness. The real reason is that he has this deep man-love/bromance for me.

Also Lamrock, are my shooting tendencies high? I may not be the most accurate but I do take a lot of shots. :P I was shooting some terrible shots tonight, 1-on-3 in traffic and pulling up for jumpers with a hand in my face (I made one but missed the rest) haha

Good job on the draft. Aldrich was picked really high. In my Wolves dynasty I am running right now I took Wall at 3 and traded him to the Bulls for two future first rounders and Hassan Whiteside. I must say Whiteside is not really playing well so far but can block and rebound. For the Pistons he could play really well.
