Pistons beats Celtics, completes the first month

Image
Ben Gordon with the last bucket of the game

Thanks to the great game in the 2nd quarter, Pistons managed to beat the Boston Celtics, 92-89. During the game, both teams lost a men through injury - Ben Wallace and Rodney Stuckey didn't enter the game after their injuries, it's not known will they play the first games of next month. One of the main heroes of the match, Al Jefferson added: We missed Ben at the second half, but we managed to hold the win without him.

One of the main intersts before the game was, how their first game against former teams will play Stuckey, Rondo, and Brown. I came out for the game as I normally do, nothing special, after the game said, Rajon Rondo, of course, it was strange to play against the Celtics, but I didn't have any special feelings. Celtics looked a bit better in the first minutes of the game, but theu couldn't get a big lead, after 1st quarter it was plus 3 to them, 27-24.

In the second quarter for the first time in the game, Kwame Brown checked in, who, against his former team, looked really concentrated - he had only 14 minutes of playing, but managed to have 6 points, 4 rebounds and 2 blocks. However, this quarter was in a Pistons mark in the first half the guests from Detroit ended with a nine point lead, 50-41. Three minutes before the end of the half Ben Wallace got injured, he did not return to the game.

Second half started with another injury, this time it was Rodney Stuckey, he didn't enter the game after that too. Even without him Celtics were able to get closer to the Pistons and the end of the game was a real thriller, one minute before the end of the game, the result was 89-89, and Rajon Rondo came to the free throw line to shoot two, but he could throw only 1 shot. Later teams exchanged swith everal inaccurate shots, and Ben Gordon 5 seconds before the end of the match, threw a two-point shots, Celtics could not answer and lost the game.

Great win. I really like this dynasty. Bet the Celtics are regretting that awful trade (they almost made in real life) here.

November Recap: Team Report

Image
Picture of the month: Big Ben posterizes Sasha Vujacic

Record: 8-8
Conference: 8th
Division: 2nd
Leaders:
Points – 22,9 Ben Gordon
Rebounds – 10,4 Al Jefferson
Assists – 7,6 Rajon Rondo
Steals – 2,81 Rajon Rondo
Blocks – 1,56 Ben Wallace

Al Jefferson

Pos: C
Stats: 13.6 PPG 10.4 RPG 1.8 APG 0.80 SPG 1.00 BPG
Best Game of the Month: 24pts 7rebs 3blks 1stl vs. Lakers

Al Jefferson joined the team after half a month behind, and he showed his best game with the first match he played in Detroit. Al gives the team what it asks from its centre player - rebounds, blocked shots and easy points from under the basket. Pairing with Ben Wallace they are a threat to every team in this league.

Ben Wallace
Pos: PF
Stats: 6.4 PPG 6.9 RPG 2.5 APG 1.44 SPG 1.56 BPG
Best Game of the Month: 17pts 13rebs 6ast 3stl 1blk vs. Magic

How many of you waited for this kind of performance from Ben Wallace, when he returned to his former team in summer? Yes, he doesn't score many points, but he really hasn't done that before either. He is the best shot blocker in this team, second-best rebounder, this is a good performance for such a veteran as Big Ben. Hopefully he will be able to continue the season like this.

Richard Hamilton

Pos: SF
Stats: 16.4 PPG 3.7 RPG 5.6 APG 0.94 SPG 0.69 BPG
Best Game of the Month: 27pts 9rebs 8ast 1stl @ Milwaukee

Rip Hamilton was always starting games off the bench at the start of the month, but with Prince's departure he got a chance to start the games and he used it perfectly, becoming one of the best team players and a leader. Small Forward position maybe is a bit unusual for him, but it looks like he learns fast.

Ben Gordon
Pos: SG
Stats: 22.9 PPG 3.9 RPG 1.8 APG 2.44 SPG 0.63 BPG
Best Game of the Month: 49pts 3rebs 3stl 2ast vs. Nets

Who does not remember the season opening game against the Nets, when Ben Gordon scored 49 points? However, not all month was so great for Gordon as the first game. In several games when the shots did not fall, he lowered his hands and looked very helpless in offense and defense. However, this changed, Ben realized that he is this teams leader and the team looks forward to see a decent performance from him. And after he realized that, we could see a lot more from Ben than just shooting from the distance.

Rajon Rondo
Pos: PG
Stats: 12.9 PPG 3.9 RPG 7.6 APG 2.81 SPG 0.94bpg
Best Game of the Month: 29pts 18ast 8stl vs. Lakers

There have been lots of talks about which team has won gotten more out of the Pistons-Celtics trade. Seeing the game of Rajon Rondo, there's no question that the Pistons team had bigger gain. Rondo is the best interceptor in the league, his quick and aggressive drives are very difficult to stop. It remains only to wish it to continue!

Jason Maxiell
Pos: PF
Stats: 4.9 PPG 3.7 RPG 1.6 APG 0.50 SPG 0.94 BPG
Best Game of the Month: 16pts 6rebs 2blk 2ast @ Chicago

Jason Maxiell was the best reservist for the team this month, he always went on the field playing with great energy and thereby helped the team. He has proved that he can also play bigger game time, like in his best game this month against the Bulls. He's small for a big guy, but he compensates it with great energy and hustle.

Zaza Pachulia
Pos: C
Stats: 4.0 PPG 3.5 RPG 0.7 APG 0.29 SPG 0.24 BPG
Best Game of the Month: 6pts 3rebs vs. Suns

Zaza joined Pistons team the same day Al Jefferson did and he has been a good back up for him. We haven't seen much highlight episodes from him, but, he does his job perfectly, especially on rebounding. It would be nice to see more blocked shots from him.

Sam Young

Pos: SF
Stats: 2.2 PPG 0.9 RPG 0.2 APG 0.31 SPG 0.23 BPG
Best Game of the Month: 8pts 3rebs vs. Bobcats

Sam Young has shown a very mature game, although he is still a Rookie. He does a great job in defensive end, where he is one of the best in the team. Would like to see more from him on the offense, but that will come with time. He has good chances to establish in this league.

Wil Bynum
Pos: SG
Stats: 4.6 PPG 1.2 RPG 0.2 APG 0.80 SPG 0.40 BPG
Best Game of the Month: 7pts 5rebs 1stl vs. Suns

The experienced guard wasn't in the coaches rotation at the beginning of the month, but after three team trade, Wil Bynum had some playing time at last, which he used for being a great leader on and off the court of the second unit.

Roko Ukic
Pos: PG
Stats: 1.7 PPG 0.5 RPG 0.6 APG 0.92 SPG 0.23 BPG
Best Game of the Month: 2pts 3ast 3stl @ Chicago

This new Croatian really hasn't really praised the coaches with his game, though we had seen some flashes of him playing a great basketball. We just wish that these flashes wouldn't be just flashes.

Other players currently on the roster haven't played much for Pistons team and it's not enough to judge their game.

Highlights of the month:

Yes he had been quiet at the first month, but it wasn't a factor for Magic to loose any game ;)
