Raptors finish Texas roadtrip with fifth straight win

Recap | Photos | Shot Chart | Team Stats

Despite being on the second game of a back to back, the Raptors did not blink as they continued their winning streak to five games with a road win against the San Antonio Spurs. Chris Bosh grabbed his second straight double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds, while the Raptors used Caron Butler's best shooting night this season to win against the Western Conference powerhouse. Butler, who scored 16 of his 23 in the first half, shot 7-10 before halftime.

The Raptors trailed 12-7 in the first quarter before taking over and controlling the game. The Spurs weren't able to build a comeback, thanks to the offensive absence of Tim Duncan, who only finished with 8 points and 6 boards.

The Spurs tied the game in the third quarter at 73 from a 15-footer by Manu Ginobili that went in with a friendly roll, but the Raptors outscored the hosts with a 36-19 spurt in the final quarter. Rashard Lewis also had a great shooting night, making 7 of his 9 attempts from the field and 3 of 4 from downtown.

The Inside of My Mind - A Story of a Raptors GM

PART 3: JOB WELL DONE
10 November 2009, 3:11 pm

BC was sipping his favourite brand of tea, the SUPERBERRY PINK TEA specially blended for health and vitality as he started reading some articles regarding his team, The Toronto Raptors, and their recent performance.

He quickly found a nice little article by Raptors blogger Mike Ulmer on the RAPTORS.COM website. He took a small bite on his baloney sandwich and without hesitation, he started reading.

LEWIS TO COME OFF THE BENCH

Head coach Sam Mitchell is happy of the effects of Rashard Lewis coming off the bench for the Toronto Raptors. The standout from Alief Elsik HS came off the bench in the Raptors' blowout home win over the Jazz.

Mitchell, who was on the verge of being fired and replaced by assistant Jay Triano last season after a subpar start, said in an interview, "We still can't fit him in the starting lineup permanently because we will be forced to playing Bosh at the 5 and playing small at the start of the game, which will lead to fatigue to the starters as they try to outrun the other team. 'Shard coming off the bench is a great role not only for him but for the whole team as he gives the bench some much needed offensive production."

Lewis came off the bench in the win over Utah and scored 23 points, making 6-11 from downtown. Lewis has been terrific in his role in Toronto, shooting over 50% from the 3-pt line since that 0-6 from downtown debut against the Bobcats in the season opener.

When I asked Lewis about his new role, he said, "I can come off the bench if it's necessary for the team. All that matters to me is to win some games for the team."

Lewis was a second-time all-star last season, playing with the Orlando Magic.

------------------------

ALL DAY LONG

It has been a phrase frequently heard from Raptors' play-by-play commentator Matt Devlin. Whenever Rashard Lewis hits a three, Devlin spastically yells, "ALL DAY LONG" from the booth.

But there is no reason for Devlin to stop. Lewis has been making 27 of his 45 attempts (over 50%) from downtown after that depressing 0-6 debut on 3-pointers. If anything, he shouldn't stop.

Lewis is also averaging 4 makes per game, and nearly 7 attempts. He's quickly found his groove fitting perfectly well with the offense of the Raptors.

----------------------

CALDERON STOPS HETLER SKELTER PLAY

Calderon has started the season cold and un-organized. His helter-skelter play forced Raptors coach Sam Mitchell to give more of his minutes to the pesky on-ball defender Marcus Banks and rookie PG AJ Price.

But after the last two back-to-back games against Texas powerhouses Spurs and Mavericks, it's safe to say that the careful point guard is back to his flow.

Calderon helped the Raptors notch a win against the Dallas Mavericks in a fast-paced, high scoring game as he finished with 16 points (his best output of the season) on 7-8 shooting from the field.

He sat out half of the final frame and only added 6 assists, but his play in the third quarter, where the Raptors took over, was a vital part of the win.

Add to that his near double-double performance against the Spurs. Calderon is simply a terrific, traditional floor general that is here to stay.

B's and Shard get job done against Blazers

Recap | Photos | Shot Chart | Team Stats

The Toronto Raptors had everything going for themselves in the final closing minutes of their home game versus the Blazers. The Raptors, who were only leading by 5 with 5 minutes remaining, used a 8-0 run to lead themselves to their 6th straight triumph.

Chris Bosh led the Raptors with 31 points and 9 rebounds, only a rebound short of a double-double. Bosh's hot hand went 14-19 from the field. Bosh got some help from Butler and Lewis, who both delivered. Butler finished the game with 15 points, on 7-10 shooting while Lewis had 17 points and 8 rebounds, shooting 4-6 from the 3-pt line, including a dagger that he hit in front of Carlos Boozer to capped the 8-0 run. Lewis was playing on a bad ankle in the fourth, an injury he got in the game as he left in the third quarter with 2 minutes remaining.

The win didn't come easy as the Blazers tried to crawl their way back into the game. Travis Outlaw hit a 3-pointer which cut the lead to 85-78. Steve Blake sunk two more 3-pointers and the Raptors were only leading 89-84.

Carlos Boozer, the big free agent acquisition of the Trail Blazers, led his team with 23 points. Boozer scored 10 points in the opening quarter on 5-8 shooting. Jose Calderon was nursing a sore hip from practice and finished with 5 points and 10 assists, but shot a uncharacteristic 1-4 from the line.

Former Blazer fan favourite Nicolas Batum scored 12 points, and added 4 rebounds, a dime, 3 steals and a block. He played the entire fourth quarter and hit a 20-footer that gave the pizza treat.

Injuries
Jose Calderon TOR - Sore Hip, DTD
Rashard Lewis TOR - Twisted Ankle, DTD
David Andersen TOR - Twisted Ankle, DTD

Very nice article. Lewis is really on fire from downtown. Once again 4-6. You're team is just clicking right now.
You also have a ton of sweet role players, from Batum to Moon, from Belinelli to DeRozan.

Guys, I might not be able to continue this. Whenever I go to my next game, this appears:

Its really annoying as I spent about the whole day yesterday trying to figure out what to do. I did a reinstall, which took about 3 hours, I tried running in compatibility mode, running as admin, deleted my cache. I even ran a virus scan which led to nothing. This is really frustrating as I was having fun with this assoc.

FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
