HIRING THE STAFF

The owner wanted me to hire my own staff. As I started to look at who was on the market and calling agents to find out the latest chatter around the league, I heard my little gadget beeper thing beep. I was a bit surprised that this guy could actually get in contact with me but I guess words travels around the league pretty quickly.

Some scout called Tyronne Bennett seems to be really keen to join my team.

Image

I decided to keep him in mind as I kept sifting through the records and seeing who would be out there that I could hire.

ASSISTANT COACH

Image

I’d heard of Lee Mitchell before. He’s a 50 something year old hard-ass who doesn’t let his players take a break. He’s been stuck on the college circuit for a really long time and most recently has actually been coaching at junior colleges. He’s never coached at the NBA level but I thought it would be nice to give him a shot. He comes highly recommended to me.

Image

To my surprise, Lee actually replied straight away. I guess the one year contract didn’t put him off. He understands that at his age and with his inexperience, not many teams would have been looking for him. I’m can’t wait to see how he works with some of our guys on defense!

SCOUT

Image

I decided to dial Bennett’s number and ask him whether he would still like to work for me. It was a resounding yes. Bennett brings quite a bit of experience with him. He follows high school and college ball very closely or so he claims. I guess I didn’t know anyone that was available and so I took a leap of faith.

Image

TRAINER

Image

Coming into this job, I knew that the team is injury-prone. I really wanted to find an above-average trainer. Devin is someone that I’ve worked with before and I did not hesitate to ask for him to work for me again.

Image

With Devin as the last signing, I looked back at my three new staff members and realized that all of them were in their 40s and 50s. I guess it’s a good thing and really reflects the direction I want this franchise to go. We want to be respected, mature, and serious. Houston Rockets basketball is about to lift off!

Before my first day ended, I sent a message to the team owner who promptly replied:

Image

Not bad for my first day!

Good signings with the exception of scout Bennett. I would've tried to get somebody a little better, even if it meant my assistant wasn't so experienced. But then again, I was always building through the draft

TRAINING CAMP

Image

Lee asked me what the focus should be for this team in their first ever training camp. I told him, “defense, defense, defense… and make them run as well!” So with my instructions noted, Lee went ahead to plan an intense week of training sessions for the team. These guys had better be prepared to run their asses off especially since we don’t have our two best guys with us for the season.

At the conclusion of training camp, here are the guys who impressed:

AROUND THE LEAGUE

Greg Oden is going to be hoping he will have a career year after his first two have been plagued by injury. It seems like he is on the right track! Deron Williams keeps trying to get better while Jason Kidd is trying to add a bit more time to his career.

Surprised you opted to work on defense, as that seems to be your team's strong point. Can't wait until the games start!

I'm guessing he's figured that he may as well run with his Assistant's strengths. I know David Andersen has his work cut out for him as I could back him down :P

EDIT: Hey Sit, you'll have to let me know if Live '06 is still playable after playing 2k9 on 360.

Just got through November. I'm sad to say the answer is FUCK NO...

Man, I think I'm only gonna be able to handle this in really small doses lol

TEAM ROSTER

The Houston Rockets are in for a long and tough season after it was announced that Yao Ming and Tracy Mcgrady would likely be out for the whole season. At C, we have the grossly undersized Chuck Hayes starting. Hayes cannot score with the ball at all. His backup is rookie and Aussie David Andersen who has a fine touch on attack but he couldn’t guard his own shadow. If only we could fuse the two of them together! Luis Scola and Carl Landry are going to be ok but other than that, we don’t have any depth at the SF, SG, and PG positions. Furthermore, we don’t have a clear number 1 option on offence. Battier should provide leadership and Ariza/Brooks will get their chance to shine this season.

Whether they can do it is another problem!

However, here are your 2009/10 Houston Rockets!

Image

WHAT DIRECTION NOW?

Losing Yao and T-Mac was not by design but leaves my team in a bit of a predicament.

Do we roll with the squad we have now or do we make a deal to try and bring in someone who can lead this team? The sad thing is that the latter option looks unlikely because we just don’t have the pieces to put a deal together.

We’re in for a very long season…

I thought Live 06's rating system was a step down from 2005's, due to its inconsistency, but I like the looks of yours. I would personally start the slightly less undersized Landry at the 5, but that's just me.

I vote to roll with the current squad and put Ariza in charge. It's a win-win. If he fails at being the first option, lottery pick, but if he succeeds, you have an all-star secured for several years being paid the MLE.

I can't believe you got Pops :P

Either way, your team's success is surely directly linked to none other than Chase Budinger & Carl Landry

Sit, I actually preferred Live '05 to '06, but yeah, no surprises it'll be hard to go back. You'll be simming a lot I'd imagine

As for the question, roll with the team you got (Y) If I could survive with the expansion Bobcats then you can survive with this very talented Rockets team

I preferred 2005 as well. Just something about it was great. Perennial #1 pick Priest Askins! The best luxury Live has is the sim intervention feature. I used it for all 82 games of my Hawks dynasty and made it through fairly quickly. Would have probably bought 2K10 if it had it.

Askins was a bust just like I thought he'd be. That Guy was the right pick. Unfortunately I blew my lottery pick in my Blazers' dynasty (N)

What game was Freddie Ratchuk in? He helped guide LA to a championship in his rookie season. (Y)

Yao doesn't have to work on defense nor athleticism in Live 06 :

NBA Live 2005 I believe, I'm sure he was featured in Its_adsf's late Raptors Dynasty thread.

Totally unrelated man... but can you stick the Dynasty HOF voting threads for the rest of the time they are going? :)

Are you going to activate T-Mac come December? If so, I would recommend bringing him off the bench as a super sixth man. Looking forward to the next update.

Looks like you might have to wait a little longer if you want to realistically activate T-Mac.
