I like how you rebuild the Suns. O'Neal is really pissed off I guess. Keep it up, hope to see some of the interesting minor moves :)

I'm really high on Brewer so I like the fact you got him. Shaq's twitter probably includes some nasty words towards Kerr. I would also welcome a Kerr firing. :)

Enter The Estonian

Postby Clutch on Mon Jul 27, 2009 9:22 pm

"Alright," Kerr said with all eyes glued on him. "Let's do this… make the call." Scout Bubba Burns smiled with satisfaction.
Back at NBA draft central, David Stern spoke as the crowd quieted to a low hum listening eagerly, "With the 43rd pick in the 2009-2010 NBA draft… the Phoenix Suns select… from Estonia… MARTTI MUST, of the University of Tartu."

A low mix of cheers, jeers, but mostly confused applause came from the bewildered crowd.

TARTU, ESTONIA -- It was dusk and Martti Must* was the only one still on the court. He swished basket after basket from deep range reflecting on the whirlwind month he had just experienced; a fairytale really for a skinny Estonian kid of 20 years, that began here on this very court when a strange, portly fellow by the name of "Bubba" approached and introduced himself.

Martti was something of a local hero, a pure-shooting guard for the University of Tartu, whose exploits and accomplishments helped the university win some recent regional acclaim. But known more for it's academics rather than it's athletics, Martti was realistic about his limits. He was good, but had no aspirations of going pro here in his country, let alone lofty dreams of playing overseas in the States; he had planned to finish college, find a career, raise a family.

And that fork in Martti's road might have been traveled if not for his younger sister, and biggest fan. She was studying film and video-taped every game she could attend, edited Martti's highlights just for the sake of practice then sharing them on the web… which incidentally a strange, portly fellow by the name of Bubba stumbled upon one hot summer Arizona night during a bout of insomnia.

Image

Martti had lived a once-in-a-lifetime fairytale and was content. Once Bubba's credibility had been proven to his rather skeptical family, Martti found himself a few nights later on a plane to America; he got to meet with and practice against real NBA players and for all his nervousness being so far from home, he did surprisingly well. Holding his own against the world's best and not embarrassing himself was all he wanted to do; now he was back home, the fairytale over almost as quickly as it had begun.

He hoisted a final three in almost complete darkness just as he heard the frantic pitter-patter of young feet running and his sister calling his name, <"Martti! Maaarrtti! It's the phone… it's America!">**

The ball clanked hard off the front rim, bouncing into darkness.

**<translated from Estonian>

*Editor's Note: Some of you may recall the "Jumbo Mutombo" contest featured in my Rockets dynasty. Well, when that dynasty ended, Martti was the frontrunner and thus I deemed him the winner then offered his 'prize' (a spot on the Rockets' roster) to carry over into this dynasty; anyway, he'll be featured here in, "FTA" not really as a main figure, but on the roster nontheless; wish him luck… he's not immune to trades or being released if he doesn't cut it ;)

Also, appreciate the comments guys; Shaq for scrubs I know; not really sure what's gonna happen to Kerr myself lol

I will do my best and shoot threes like hell. :)

Wow, Clipper got Lee. Do they now have Kaman, Randolph, Camby and Lee?

And on a side-note, the second round players are announced by some other dude, not Stern. The same guy who does the draft lottery. Can't remember his name.

Clutch, nice presentation and good to see Shaq out of Arizona and getting almost nothing in return.

Now... what rosters are you using? Because I see that the age is right but you're using Live 06

Thx for the corrections guys  that's funny! always assumed Stern did the whole thing but now I think about it that is a lot of names; shows you my attention span when it comes to draft day :)

Image

Clippers don't have Camby anymore as I believe he retired since he's nowhere to be found in the player.dbf (I always forget to note the retirements during the off-season :( ); but their lineup looks sick (compared to mine anyway) w/the addition of Lee, plus they drafted that 7' 5" Karpovtsev dude who I know from past dynasties becomes a pretty potent inside presence (I probably could've snagged him w/my 2nd rnd pick too -- arrgh!); not looking fwd to facing either LA team that's for sure

A weird trade that went down was Bogut for Nelson; now Orlando is set with bigs (Amare will have his hands full):

Image

And now the Bucks are looking insanely balanced and scary with Nelson at the helm:

Image

Amare will need to punish Gadzuric when PHX and MIL square off hahah

Man... on paper my team looks like ass compared to the powerhouses; we may be in for a brutally painful season lol

Thx for the comment man; "getting almost nothing in return"... pretty much like the reallife Suns lol

As far as rosters, I'm using the PC Proj patch ver1.1 but have managed to "trick" Live '06 to start my dynasty in the '09-10 season. I wrote about how to do this which you can check out in the "Tutorials" section under "Submissions." It's a little complicated but definitely not impossible but the cool thing is all the ages become accurate (since it's reading in real birthdates and adjusting the ages accordingly) as well as years pro is accurate and it's stable as far as random dynasty crashes mid season since you're not messing with any of the team or player.dbf files. Plus this same method should still work when Andrew releases the latest PC Proj patch with this year's crop of rooks.

It's not perfect though as there's a few inconsistencies (Comp gen'ed rookies still list their draft year as 2006, Hall of Fame still reads 2005-2006 for instance) but i can live w/that. These are cosmetic quirks and nothing that makes the game unstable or crash when the procedure is done properly. I just hated having 17-year old rookies and the dynasty start year reading "Oct 2005"

Damn, should have read your tutorial first. I manually dbf-edited all players' birth year back 5 years. Took about 45 minutes.

Karpovtsev is 7'5', but there's probably one rookie called Ben Vuu. He's also 7'5', had him in my Heat before it crashed.

And on paper doesn't mean anything. The Suns this year with J-Rich were great on paper, but didn't make the Playoffs. Also, the Blazers' roster isn't filled with all-stars, and yet they made the Playoffs.

I could have sworn that I made a reply earlier to the Shaq trade but I guess I'm just losing it lately.

I am personally a fan of the Shaq trade simply because Corey Brewer was included. I think in the proper system, Brewer can really be an up-tempo slasher that can get to the rim and occasionally bury a three here and there while using his length to get in the passing lanes (which is always a plus if you're Phoenix and want to run). He kind of lacks in the handle department but I think in a wide spaced system like Phoenix's he'll thrive as a solid role player.

Doctor's Orders

Postby Clutch on Thu Aug 06, 2009 5:15 pm

[Thx guys. instead of explaining the absolute nightmare that is 'real-life' right now, I'll continue here as planned as a sanctuary, escape and much needed break from it all; that said, let the music play… Clutch]

Phoenix, AZ - "Doctor's orders, Steve. I'm sorry," Assistant Coach Bill Cartwright said in his signature hoarse, nasal-heavy voice. Disappointed Kerr replied, "Bill… don't… don't do this to me! The season's just around the corner - who am I gonna find to replace you this late?"

The tall, grizzly ex-center erected his lanky frame up, laying a hand on Kerr's shoulder saying, "I know and I'm truly sorry, Steve. But my doc said I need to trade in the clipboard for a fishing pole and take some much needed R&R immediately or this ol' ticker of mine might not make it past All-Star Weekend. I'm off to Maui next week, then to Florida for a while after that, then who knows."

"Damn Bill. Just… damn," said Kerr in resignation.

Just then Suns Head Coach, Alvin Gentry, burst through the door, "Steve… what the fff..? I'm away a few extra weeks to handle some important family matters and come back... to this? Half my team's gone! Where's Shaq? Maddog Madsen? Are you serious? What'd you do to my team?"

Through the flashing of media cameras and light sound of applause, a smiling Mark 'Maddog' Madsen displayed his new Phoenix Suns jersey in front of him with fellow ex-T'Wolves, Corey Brewer and Bobby Brown, proudly doing the same.

"Going ol' school, eh Corey?" said Madsen. "That's right dawg. '#2' just like in college; hopefully it rekindles some of that Gator magic for me," Brewer said blinded by the flashes but not losing his grin.

"It's all about the Arizona hotties, I'm tellin' you," Bobby Brown added lifting his jersey high to shield his words as the media continued their photo shoot onslaught. "Always on the prowl, Bo; maybe you should take up singing," said Brewer as the trio chuckled anxiously.

Highland Park, IL - A middle-aged, yet lean and fit, african-american male clung to the edge of his lavish backyard pool, kicking gingerly to stay afloat while holding a cell phone to his ear.

"Just promise you'll think about it okay?" the squeaky voice pleaded into his ear. "I could really use you now with Bill stepping down and I know you've hit your share of financial snags in the past few years; a steady gig might really help you out; it'd help us both out really. Just… think about it, okay?"

"I'll think about it… but that's all I'm promising," the man said as a tanned, sleek and well-curved woman with dark, straight hair and exotic facial features emerged from a glass sliding door carrying a tray and two glasses of iced-tea.

"I gotta go," the man said hanging up the phone and swimming over to the woman.

"Who was it, honey?" she asked taking a seat in one of poolside lounge chairs and extending her legs out while watching as he exited the pool and began to towel off.

"Steve… Steve Kerr," he said to which her brow furrowed and with a puzzled look she followed, "Wow… now there's an old name for you; what'd he want?"

"Well," the man said taking a sip of tea to gather himself, "you know, this, that and uh… he kinda offered me… a job."

I don't think it's MJ since he is part of the Bobcats management, Its probably Pippen.. All clues point to him, he hadn't had a steady job since retiring and he has a hot wife..

Pippen, Kerr Reunite

PHOENIX, AZ -- GM Steve Kerr announced today a 1-year agreement with six-time NBA champion and former Chicago Bulls teammate, Scottie Pippen, to supersede retiring Bill Cartwright as Assistant Coach of the Phoenix Suns for the 2009-2010 season.

The 43-year old Pippen expressed his enthusiasm with his decision to enter coaching, "I'm very excited to be joining the Phoenix Suns organization and thankful to Steve (Kerr), Alvin (Gentry) and Rob (Sarver) for giving me this opportunity. We've a nice blend of youth and veterans on this team and I'm looking forward to working with each one them and helping this team reach higher levels."

A defensive specialist, Pippen's credentials as a player are staggering: eight-time NBA All-Defensive Team; three-time All-NBA First Team; seven-time NBA All-Star, including one All-Star Game MVP; sixteen straight postseasons played, third behind Kareem Aldul-Jabbar and (gag) Robert Whorry; a certain future Hall of Famer named one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History.

The question will be whether Pippen can translate his on-court defensive prowess off the court to his players; but at least one endorsement has been cast in Pippen's favor - the NBA's most winningest coach of all-time, Lakers' head coach, Phil Jackson, seems to believe so.

Learning of the news Jackson told reporters, "I once wrote of Scottie as, 'the most intelligent defensive player I've ever coached' (in his book, The Last Season) and I meant it. He'll be an excellent addition to their coaching staff, dangerous actually from the Lakers perspective. Nonetheless, I wish Scottie all the best in his new endeavor."
