(07)Raptors (5-6): Bosh & Bargs - Week 3 Recap Up

KG + Dwight going winless in the 1st week of the season? Orlando fans are gonna be pushing that panic button now.

I actually didn't notice the amputated arms until I read the note at the bottom.

Chris Bosh is on a slump. He needs to get back on track so the Raps can win more games. If he had played well, the Raps could easily be 3-0 in the 1st week.

Good luck with this

Muchos gracias, all. Glad to see the effort is paying off.

SpaceFlare, don't worry about the Magic. They've made another addition to the team that should get them back on track.

Clutch, fear not, Q-Ross will see the floor. And I changed my colour settings on my monitor, and I realized you were totally right about the title image. It's much better now.

IGWT, 36 for Miller is a little odd, but stranger things have definitely happened. It's not like he dropped 50 or something.

Note: Turns out there were no transactions in the 1st week of the season, so here we go with week 2. Also, I decided to start adding boxscores for all games, so that anyone who wishes can follow any team that interests them, and also so that people can see what I'm doing to CPU lineups. Also, if anyone notices any boxscores that are incirrectly linked, let me know and I'll fix it. Cheers, and thanks for reading.

WEEK 2 RECAP

NOV. 4: RAPS FALL TO WIZARDS, MO PETE LEADS MAGIC TO 1ST WIN

RAPTORS GAME RECAP
TORONTO 93 - WASHINGTON 105

Toronto's woes to start the season continued with a 12-point loss to the Wizards. The game wasn't even as close as the final score indicates. Washington jumped out to a 38-27 lead in the 1st quarter, and then poured in another 30 points in the 3rd to take a 93-71 lead heading into the final frame. With Washington's starters on the bench for the bulk of the 4th, the Raptors were still not able to cut the deficit to single-digits. Chris Bosh was the only Raptor to play a solid game, rebounding from a couple of sub-par performances to post 23 points, 11 boards, as well as 3 steals and 2 blocks. The Wizards were lead by Agent Zero's 30 points and 13 assists, while Antawn Jamison pitched in 25 points and 11 rebounds. Following the game, Raptors coach Sam Mitchell was asked about the team's lackluster performance so far this season.

"You know, it's just 4 games. We're not panicking. The only people who seem to be panicking about our record is you guys in the media. We lost a couple of close ones to Atlanta and Miami, and yeah, we'd like to have those games back, but it's a long season. I mean, look, we're still trying to find the best ways to utilize Leandro, to get him in positions where he can be effective. I'm really not concerned about it yet. We just need to execute our offense a little better, and find the right combinations of guys out there. If we're still sitting on 1 win in a week or two weeks, then you guys can talk to me about us underachieving."

GAME RECAP
This game was the definition of a blowout. Leading by a ridiculous 25 points at half time, neither Bosh nor Bargnani stepped on the floor in the 2nd half, and Parker and Ford played only a combined 6 minutes. Still, the Nets were still unable to make any sort of a dent in Toronto's unsurmountable lead. In fact, by the end of the 3rd, the Raptors bench had increased the lead to 32, holding New Jersey to just 15 points in the quarter. Richard Jefferson was the only Net who showed any signs of life, scoring a game-high 22 points on 11-17 shooting. Jason Kidd was the only other Net to score in double figures, finishing with 13 points on a pedestrian 5-14 from the floor. Every Raptor scored in the win, with 4 players in double-figures, lead by Barbosa's 15 in just 19 minutes. The win put an end to Toronto's 3 game losing streak, while also snapping New Jersey's 3 game winning streak.

RAPTORS GAME RECAP
PHILADELPHIA 95 - TORONTO 94

Chris Bosh recorded his 5th double-double in 6 games this year, sparking the Raptors 18-point 2nd half comeback. It wasn't enough, however, as the Raptors fell just short to the visiting 76ers, by a final score of 95-94. Philly thoroughly dominated Toronto in the 1st half, at one point leading by as many as 28 points, but a 9-0 Raptors run to end the half cut the deficit to 19. The 3rd quarter started off much the same, with Toronto reeling off another 8-0 run to cut Philly's lead to just 11, which then shrank to 8 by the end of the quarter. But Toronto was unable to get any closer than 4 points back in the 4th quarter, until Bargnani nailed a step-back 3-pointer off a picture perfect pick and pop with Ford with under a minute to play to bring the Raps within 1. The teams then traded baskets for the next couple of possessions, until the Raptors got the ball with 12 seconds left on the clock, the score 95-94 in favor of Philadelphia. With the game on the line, Bosh got the ball at the elbow. He was promptly doubled, and found a wide-open Anthony Parker in the corner. Parker launched a potential game-winning 3 at the buzzer, but Iguodala came out of nowhere to get a hand on the shot, altering its course, and preserving the win for the Sixers.

RAPTORS GAME RECAP
TORONTO 103 - CHARLOTTE 82

When they win, they win big. Toronto once again blew out their opponent, this time downing the Charlotte Bobcats 103-82. The Raptors held Charlotte to just 30 1st half points. Bosh again notched a double-double, giving him his 6th in 7 games. TJ Ford scored a team-high 30 points to go along with 7 assists and a surprising 2 blocks. Jason Terry lead all scorers with 31, 1 of only 3 Bobcats to score in double figures. Toronto used great ball movement to take control early, garnering 32 assists on 42 made field goals, despite struggling from 3-point territory, where the Raps usually do a good deal of their damage. They finished just 3-16 from downtown. In addition to Terry, Charlotte also got a good game out of Gerald Wallace, who collected 19 points and 16 rebounds. The win pulled Toronto to within 1 game of .500 at 3-4, while dropping Charlotte to 5-4 on the young season.

Nice to see Bosh playing well again and some of those performances translating to blowout wins.

Okur is playing monster a 20-20 game and a trip dub in the same week? Insane imo.

And seeing Kidd drop 40 points is a bit strange

Orlando is in a bad position now. IMO, they should start Mo Pete at SF and Bogans at SG. Would give them better perimeter shooting. And they need a good big off the bench.

I am so digging this format. Keep up the hard work!

Excellent read my man! (Y) that had to have taken a lot of time but your efforts are appreciated

    Raps - Barbosa's got to get more consistency in his game; he's a total X-Factor and can bust games right open or lose them completely if he's having an off night;

    Rockets - damn it! I HATE that Luther head gets more shots than YAO/TMAC; they seriously need to trade him;

Hornets - my boy "Furious Gomez" gonna have a hard time finding minutes behind Chandler, Mourning & West but at least he's snatching some boards whenever he's in lol

Lamrock93, I told you it would be amazing. Seriously, though, thanks a lot. I'm not sure if it'll be the best ever, but possibly the most in-depth.

SpaceFlare, yeah, Okur played way over his head this week. And J-Kidd has 2 games of 40+ in 2 weeks this year. 2 triple-doubles in 2 weeks would be understandable, but 2 40+ games is ridiculous. Oh, well, there's only so much you can do with Live's crappy sim engine. And Orlando, well, you'll just have to wait and see what goes down with them.

Xiphias, Chaser7, thanks a lot, dudes. I appreciate it.

Clutch, at least Barbosa's inconsistency is one thing Live got right. As for Luther Head, he did drop 34 in one game in the 1st week. And he doesn't usually shoot more than Yao and T-Mac, but if it does keep up, he'll be moving to backup SG with Bobby Jackson taking over PG duties. And Furious Gomez is a rebounding machine. I play the Hornets in week 6, so keep your eyes peeled for some Furious action. Also, David West went to Boston for Gerald Green and Delonte West in the off-season, so Gomez is really only behind Chandler and Mourning. But minutes will still be hard to come by, again thanks to Live's crap ass sim engine.

GAME RECAP
Toronto finally looked like the team everyone envisioned when Leandro Barbosa was signed in the off-season to provide some scoring punch. Barbosa scored 21 points on 9-15 shooting, one of three Raptors to top 20.

Toronto blew out the surprising Charlotte Bobcats on their home court for the second consecutive game. But this game was different from the teams encounter two days prior. This win felt like a tangible step forward for Toronto's development. The offense was incredibly efficient in generating 65.8% shooting. Bosh, with a game-high 36, and Bargnani, who added 23, combined for 26-35 from the floor, leading the charge for the Raps. The defense was far from perfect, but it was effective against a Bobcats team with a lot of potent scoring options. Charlotte did make a push in the 4th , cutting the Raptors lead to 8 with 6 minutes left in the game. With Charlotte attacking, Primoz Brezec set a screen for Raymond Felton, then slipped behind Bargnani, who doubled on Felton. Felton fed a bounce pass between Bargnani and Ford to Brezec at the rim. But Bargnani recorved quickly, and flew in to reject Brezec's layup. The ball was recovered by Najera, who ran the ball up court and found the trailing Bargnani for the dagger 3-ball. What would have been a 2-possession game was turned back into a double-digit lead for the Raptors, a lead which they did not relinquish for the rest of the game.

With the Raptors leading by 10 at the half, Kevin Garnett decided he'd had enough. KG, who finished with 37 points, 16 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 steals, 2 blocks, and 0 turnovers, sparked a 38-point 3rd quarter for the home team Magic, giving them a 7-point lead heading into the 4th. It was then that Orlando's vaunted interior defense took over, forcing the Raptors into uncomfortable perimeter jump shots and limiting their drives to the paint. After a 62-point 1st half, Toronto was limited to just 41 in the 2nd. Bosh did everything he could to keep the Raps in it, scoring 28 points and securing 9 rebounds, but Garnett was a one-man wrecking crew who was not going to be denied victory. Jameer Nelson added 23 for the home team, while Barbosa, Ford, and Parker all scored in double figures for Toronto, finishing with 17, 16, and 14, respectively.

Toronto climbed back to .500 with a win over the Heat, a team that beat Toronto for their 1st win of the season back on November 2nd. Sam Mitchell inserted Barbosa into the starting lineup for the first time this season in an effort to push the tempo against an aging Miami squad. The move paid dividends, with Leandro scoring 18 points, while shouldering the bulk of the defensive assignment against Dwyane Wade, who was held to just 17 points. Chris Bosh continued his strong play of late, again notching a double-double, with 27 points and 10 rebounds. TJ Ford almost finished with a double-double of his own, finishing with 15 points and 9 assists. The game was close through 3 quarters, with the teams tied at 66, when the Raps blew it open in the 4th. They outscored the Heat 32-22 in the frame, taking control of the game and never looking back.

RAPTORS GAME RECAP
TORONTO 89 - BOSTON 105

Toronto continues to struggle with consistency. After a big win over Miami, the Raps fell hard to the much improved Boston Celtics. In his second game as a starter, Leandro Barbosa struggled badly, scoring just 4 points on 2-5 shooting in 27 minutes. Both teams got strong contributions from the bench, with 36 points from the Raptors reserves to 33 from the C's bench. The player of the night, though, was Sebastian Telfair. In a game full of stars and all-stars, the under-achieving Bassy exploded for 28 points and 8 assists, both game-highs. Telfair also played good defense on TJ Ford, harassing him into 5-14 field goals, while also grabbing 2 steals. After the game, veteran Grant Hill spoke about his young point guard.

"We know he's had some problems in the past, and he knows it, too. He knows he's gotta step up his game if he wants to have a long career in this league, and tonight he did it. But you know, we're teammates. We all try and get the best out of each other, and support each other through whatever happens. We got his back, and Bassy knows we got his back. If he just keeps working hard on his game, he'll be one of the top point guards in the league. Mark my words, he'll make an All-star team before his career is done if he keeps himself focused and out of trouble."

Wow man, I love how you add all the other box scores, its interesting to see Z-bo with the Dubs. (side note, why is called Z-BO, I don't get it.)

One thing though, is there any way you could make it so I don't have to scroll sideways in my browser, It has to do with that NBA Tv like players of the night thing, but going sideways is one of the most annoying things for me, and makes me not look at certain dynasties, anyways no problem if you can't change it, since the scrolling isn't that bad compared to others... Chaser, thanks man. As for the scrolling thing, I always forget that not everyone has widescreen monitors  . I'll give it a try for next week's recap and see how it looks. If it doesn't really affect the flow of the weekly recap, then I have no problem going back and changing the others. And yeah, I have no clue why Randolph is called Z-Bo, but Z-Bo is shorter to type than Randolph, so I went with it.

continued excellence man! great job (Y)

but... whaddup? my boy 'Furious' in NO is getting more burn than Q-Ross! hahah but i guess it's to be expected since your squad runs pretty deep

lovin' that the Rockets are poundin' fools; probably too early to start dreaming of a Yao v. Bosh finals though, huh? ;)

Amazing dynasty still. I really hope you keep this up, man. Tough break that your team isn't playing that well though.

I have a question. Are all those weekly transactions done by the CPU or are you forcing some of them by dbf editing? :?:

The fun thing with this dynasty is that it's easy to track how all the other teams and players are doing. Props to you for that.

I guess you lived up to the expectations you gave all of us when you said, "This'll be more than solid, this will be spectacular."

Xiphias, thank you. I thought the game against the Bobcats would be tougher, but I managed to shut them down pretty well.

Clutch, Q-Ross will play! I promise! Right now, though, I'm trying to find the right starting 5 more so than anything else, and Ross certainly doesn't enter into that equation. But he will play a lot more once I get that settled. I love his perimeter D. As for a Raps/Rockets finals, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it's unlikely that I make it to the finals this year. I'll be happy with a 1st round win.

Marquis, thanks a fucking lot, man! Just kidding. I really appreciate your comments, but unfortunately I think you might be disappointed in Daniels performance. The Pacers still have Jackson and Granger ahead of him, so significant PT will be hard to come by. I actually wish I could trade for him, cause I really dig Daniels in real life, but his contract is too big and too lengthy for me to be able to afford it and still stick to my building strategy.

Lamrock, thanks to you, as well. Yeah, we're struggling slightly, but it's still early, and like I said, I'm trying to find the best starting 5 right now, so some ups and downs are to be expected. We rip it up in games I play, though (which is only the "NBA TV Game of the Week"), but I guess that's to be expected.

SpaceFlare, as usual the bulk of the moves ar done by the CPU, but a few were done by me. So far this year, the only ones I forced were the Magic signing Walton (they needed help in the worst way, and with Walton coming off a MIP award, it seemed like he'd be the guy Orlando would target), the Heat signing George (also needed help badly, and I figured it made sense with George having played with O'Neal in LA, and the fact that he's a vet and Miami is still in "win now" mode), and Stevenson to New York (they really needed big man help, but the quality big men left were few, so I went with the proud Knick tradition of signing the best available guy, regardless of how well he fits the team). All other roster moves were done by CPU, though I did edit a lot of guys desired contracts so that teams would actually sign them.

But this raises a good question, I think. Do you guys think I should somehow indicate the moves I've forced versus the CPU moves? Maybe with an asterix or something. Is that something you guys feel would improve the dynasty, or does it not really matter either way? Bear in mind I don't make rash decisions for other teams. It's all carefully thought out, weighing things like team record, team needs, and where the team is in terms of rebuilding, or "win now", or what have you. I guess indicating the forced moves could open up more interaction, with people then being able to question why I've made specific moves, which would be a good thing. On the other hand, I'm not really too interested in hearing things like "you shouldn't have signed that guy, he sucks", or "this team ripped off this team in this trade", without any thought to what a team's particular needs might be. It's not that I'm not open to criticism, I just don't want to get bombarded with baseless criticism. Everyone has preconceived notions of a player's worth, but I've been trying really hard to throw that out the window when evaluating potential roster changes and work only with team needs.

So after all that rambling, what do you guys think? Indicate forced moves, or no?

Week 4 up soon, and then after week 5, some monthly recap action, stats leaders, MVP and ROY race updates, and some manner of article or something about the Raps (haven't decided the specifics of the last part).

I'd say indicating them would be good. They would be good points of discussion. If we decide to question the moves.

I actually found some of the offseason moves a bit interesting such as KG to Orlando. As I find that KG should be teaming up with a veteran star and not a young man like D-Ho.

Needless to say, it'd be nice to see people sharing their opinions about transactions and such. :D

Yes, I agree with SpaceFlare. Just add the the asterisk near the move you decided to do yourself, to be able to dicuss about it.

Some close losses you had in the first weeks, but as you said it's just the start of the season, no need to panic. Really like how Bosh and Bargnani play. And I don't know whether it can be considered as dissapointment, but Joey Graham is playing very poor. Probably good decision let him start from the bench and moving Barbosa to the Starting 5 and Parker to the SF. Well anyways 5-6 is pretty good, not solid, but I know you will do better in the next weeks.

I'm following Daniels, Kleiza, Mavericks, Magic and some other interesting matchups. And I have to say that Kleiza looks really well in Detroit, pretty solid games from him. Daniels is struggling a bit, although he had one night with 18 points, thats nice. But as you said it really difficult for him to perform better when there are Jackson and Granger at his position. I actually never liked him being in Indiana, I will always imagine him as a maverick. Speaking of Mavericks, they are poor now, guess loss of Terry was a very important thing.

Looking forward for the 4 week recap. Keep it up man (Y)
