2007 OFF-SEASON UPDATE
Hornets get 1st pick of the draft and pick the future talent
Draft Lottery
New Orleans Hornets have won this year draft lottery. They will be able to pick first in this very strong NBA draft. Atlanta Hawks, who had the best chances to get the 1st pick, got the 4th pick. Washington Wizards will have their own 10th pick in the draft and 76ers' 6th pick, which they got by trading Ethan Thomas to Philadelfia.
Resigning Players

New Orleans Hornets finally managed to offer David West a contract. He will be under contract of Hornets in the next 5 years, unless he will be traded. Hornets also successfully agreed with Desmond Mason, who will wear Hornets' jersey for the next 4 years. He will probably be benched, because there are rumors that Hornets are trying to pick SF in the draft. Jannero Pargo and Rasual Butler also were resigned and got their 2 year contracts. They will be pretty good replacements off the bench. Brendon Bass, Linton Johnson III and Marcus Vinicius were not resigned and have left the club.
2007 NBA Draft

2007 NBA draft began and with the 1st pick New Orleans Hornets selected small forward Lawrence Conners (87 overall) from Sam Houston St. Scool. He was born in Europe, Cardiff Wales. The player has great quickness, is confident free throw shooter and is very good on offense. Hopefully he will fit in the team along with Chris and Peja. The 2nd round began and with the 33rd pick Hornets selected power forward Hank Harry (72 overall) from Dayton Scoll. he was born in Winnipeg, MB. Experts say the player will adapt quickly to the NBA, although he is struggling at defensive boards and shooting free throws.
FA Signing Period

New Orleans Hornets didn't have a lot of money to sign someone important, but made some minor signings. Point guard Baha Wood (65 overall), the undrafted rookie received an offer from Hornets and accepted it. Another player who joined Hornets was Pape Sow (61 overall). Hopefully he will be a perfect bench player to give some minutes to Chandler and Armstrong.
Other Teams' Transactions
There were not so many significant signings this year. Smush Parker surprisingly left Lakers for Rockets. James Posey returned from Miami to Memphis. Grizzlies also traded their point guard Kyle Lowry to the Pacers for center Davis Harrison. Orlando and Toronto strengthened their frontcourt. Magic signed Travis Outlaw, while Raptors added Anderson Varejao to their roster. Charlotte Bobcats had pretty nice signings. Former Hornet Devin Brown who left the team this year, also Sasha Pavlovic from the Cavs and Nick Collison from the Sonics now will wear Bobcats uniform.
Retired Players

There were some important players who left NBA this year. Two Heat players Alonzo Mourning and Eddie Jones announced their end of carrier. Eddie played in Los Angeles, Charlotte, Miami, and Memphis in his 13 years' carrier. Alonzo had his years in Charlotte and Miami too, also played in New Jersey for two years. Also, how we can forget Dikembe Mutombo, who retired at the age of 41. He marked his carrier in Denver, Atlanta, Philadelfia, New Jersey, New York and Houston. Bruce Bowen from Spurs and Doug Christie, great defensive players, also left the league this year.
Training Camp

Lawrence Conners and Hank Harry, as well as all the remaining Hornets players were practicing and preparing for the next, 2007-2008 NBA season. Conners showed some great stealing skills, also demonstrated nice dunks and accurate shots. Harry practiced making points in paint, also shooting free throws. The assistant coach was concentrated mainly on offense, which was one of the biggest problems last year.
Player Rotation for 2007-2008 season
The player rotation for the 2007-2008 season was released. Rookie Lawrence Conners will replace Desmond Mason at the starting 5. Tyson Chandler, David West, Peja Stojakovic and Chris Paul remained at the starting 5. You can see the whole team roster
