Game #19:

Cleveland Cavaliers (86)
@
Philadelphia 76ers (90)

---

The Cavaliers battled until the final buzzer but it was not enough as they slumped to a second straight defeat for the first time this season. The night was made even wrose when it was revealed in the post-game interviews that Michael Redd would miss a further five weeks of action because of a bone spur in his foot.

Cleveland were led into battle again by Zydrunas Ilgauskas, who posted his second consecutive 20+ point game, and Drew Gooden, who put up 20 points as well and led the team in rebounding. However, the team was let down again by their defence as Kyle Korver, who grabbed an amazing game-high 30 points, and Allen Iverson penetrated the Cavs far too often. The team also struggled in the paint defensively as both Chris Webber and Samuel Dalembert helped themselves to several rebounds.

The Cavaliers found themselves trailing in both the first and second quarters, despite keeping the game tight. Philadelphia's largest lead of the night was 8, whilst Cleveland only managed to pull ahead by 2 points (albeit on three different occasions). The 76ers were very effective with their field goal shooting (58%), as well as their defence that managed to thwart many a Cavalier attack.

The third quarter saw a resurgence of sorts from Cleveland as they grabbed their first lead of the game, and could have extended it further had Eric Snow not missed an open lay-up. The bench players garnered most of their minutes in the third quarter and, whilst the back court struggled, the forwards had a great night. Dan Gadzuric put up 6 points, 3 assists and 3 blocks, Anderson Varejao led the bench with 8 points and Luke Jackson put in another decent performance with 6 points, 2 assists and a steal in eight minutes. The only guard that didn't struggle was Stephen Graham, who led the team with 3 assists, as well as contributing 6 points.

In the foruth quarter it looked like Cleveland might actually grab the victory. Ilgauskas and Gooden combined for an 8-0 scoring run that coverted a six-ponit deficit into a two-point lead. The Cavs again failed to extend the lead when Damon Jones missed a three pointer (In another poor performance). The Sixers seemend to find an energy boost in the closing minutes as Iverson drove for three straight buckets, whilst Kyle Korver contributed a three-pointer to the effort. Aleksandar Pavlovic answered with a three of his own but this proved to be the final action of the night as Philadelphia squeezed out a four-point victory.

The loss takes the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 13-6 record for the season.

Game #20:

Cleveland Cavaliers (111)
@
Atlanta Hawks (86)

---

Despite a great effort from Al Harrington, the Atlanta Hawks were unable to continue the Cleveland Cavaliers losing streak. Truth be told, Harrington was the only Hawk that was on tonight, as illustrated by his 23-point, 20-rebound game. Unfortuantely for them, the entire Cleveland team came ready for a fight.

The Cavaliers were led into battle once again by the dynamic duo fo Ilgauskas and Gooden, who tonight combined for 50 points and 24 rebounds. Donyell Marshall also grabbed a double-double for the first time this season and in a great performance he put up 19 points and 12 rebounds. The three front men each had 12 boards on the night, and managed to rack up the points with ease thanks to the return to form of the Cavaliers' back court.

After some dissapointing games this season, Eric Snow managed 10 points as well as 6 assists. Damon Jones also contributed 13 points, including two backt-o-back 3-pointers. The usual suspects on the bench - Dan Gadzuric and Anderson Varejao - proved to be the only letdown for the team tonight as they managed 1 point between them.

The place were the game was won-and-lost tonight was the defence of both teams. The Cavaliers put up a strong resolve for the first time in a while and kept Atlanta at 37% from the field. The Hawks' defence on the other hand was penetrated consistently, from both the passing ability of Eric Snow and the power of both Drew Gooden and Zydrunas Ilgauskas. Donyell Marshall's stand-out game can be attributed to the fact that he managed to escape his marker almost effortlessly on every attempt.

As well as an impressive 25-point victory, the Cleveland fans were treated to the news that superstar swingman LeBron James would be returning to action from a broken toe, and could even feature in their next game at San Antonio. After tonight's performance however, King James is going to have a hard time in reclaiming his throne.

The victory sees the Cavaliers back to winning ways and also takes their season record to 14-6.

Game #21:

Cleveland Cavaliers (93)
@
San Antonio Spurs (80)

---

The Cleveland Cavaliers can either be considered the luckiest side in the league, or the most rapidly-improving side in the league. Last night they took on the San Antonio Spurs and completely outplayed them. Without LeBron James. The Cavaliers entered one of their best performances of the season as their offence and defence finally seemed to click into place.

Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Drew Gooden led the line-up again, with Ilgauskas posting a very impressive 17 Points, 8 rebounds and 7 blocks. Drew Gooden managed a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. The entire team chipped in with vital contributions, with another noteworthy performance from Luke Jackson, who had 9 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists in 10 minutes. The team played so well in fact that LeBron James was not risked as he made his first appearance on the bench after suffering from a broken toe.

The San Antonio Spurs had an off-night. There is no disputing that. Most notably off was Tony Parker who shot an embarrasingly low 7-24 from the field, despite leading his team with 9 assists. Tim Duncan also had a quiet night, as despite grabbing the team-high 7 rebounds he looked like he wasn't all there.

After the game, superstar swingman LeBron James commented on the excellent team play he saw tonight and hoped that he could find his spot again in the team.

Head Coach Mike Brown said that he was delighted with the victory and that the team's extra defensive training seemed to be paying off. The victory gives the Cavaliers a season record of 15-6 going into the All-Star break.

The future of the NBA was showcased tonight as the sophmores and the rookies did battle. The sophmores managed to win the game with a combination of strong defence and excellent fast breaking. The duo of Andre Iguodala and Ben Gordon did the majority of the damage for the sophmores, combining for 50 points. They were assisted by 2005 Rookie of the Year Emeka Okafor who managed 17 points and team-high 8 rebounds.

The rookies suffered a major setback in the first quarter when Chris Paul was removed from the game after sustaining a leg injury. Despite the early setback, the rookies rallied through their front court of Andrew Bogut, Charlie Villanueva and Gerald Green, who combined for 52 points and 20 rebounds.

The first quarter saw the sophmores establish an eight-point lead as Okafor and Krstic handled the defence, whilst Igoudala converted on three straight alley-oops from Sebastian Telfair. In the closing seconds of the quarter, Ben Gordon sunk his first three-point attempt (4-7 for the night) to give the sophmores some breathing room.

The second quarter saw the rookies get going as they cut the deficit and actually managed to open up a lead. Andrew Bogut led the way by managing to break down Nenad Krstic's defence, whilst Rashad McCants connected on back-to-back three pointers.

The third quarter saw the sophmores find their feet again as they managed to contain an explosive rookie side whilst slowly building up their own lead. Andris Biedrins had a great third quarter as he managed 4 rebounds, 3 rebounds and 4 assists. The sophmores defence edge showed as Deron Williams failed to connect on four back-to-back field goals and found himself benched.

The final quarter was not so much competitive between the two sides, as it was between Andre Iguodala and Ben Gordon. Both men entered the quarter on 18 points and battled (albeit in a friendly manner) to be the high-point man. Both men started off with some gream teamwork, setting each other up for back-to-back alley oops. In the closing moments, Iguodala found himself 1-point ahead of Gordon with 5 seconds left. With the game already won, Iguodala opted to pass to his team mate who sunk a three-pointer at the buzzer.

Ben Gordon was the high-point man with 26 points, but it was the all-around play of Andre Iguodala that won him the game's MVP award.

Tonight's All-Star Game was memorable for several reasons. Firstly, and most importantly, Allen Iverson of the Philadelphia 76ers won his third All-Star MVP award, 2nd in a row, with a triple-double of 22 points, 12 assists and 10 steals.

Secondly, it saw the usual All-Stars being outplayed by their new team mates. Kevin Garnett was a shadow of his usual self as he managed only 45 points and 6 rebounds. On the other hand, veteran guard Sam Cassell grabbed the game-high 32 points and led the West through the entire game.

There were some heads left scratching at this years selection. Firstly, there was no place for Tim Duncan or Steve Nash in the West side. Also, Houston's own Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming found themselves on the bench. To add to the West's problems, Dirk Nowitzki didn't even play! Although, that was because of a minor injury suffered in the warm up.

The East were weakened by the injury to sure-fire starter LeBron James, but Tayshaun Prince filled his shoes rather adequately. The nost notable absences on the East side where the New Jersey pair of Jason Kidd and Vince Carter, as well as Detroit's Chauncey Billups and Toronto's Chris Bosh, who both will have to wait another year for their first All-Star game.

The game itself was not the best in history. It suffered from several lull points in the game, with deserving MVP Allen Iverson being the only one who managed to ignite the game. He found himself in foul trouble throughout the game, but still managed to put up an amazing triple double. He linked up well with Dwyane Wade in the East backcourt. Perhaps the most notable sight in the game was Wade connecting on one of many Iverson alley-oops.

The West were also carried by their backcourt, with Kobe Bryant and Sam Cassell combining for 57 points. They also had the advantage of being able to bring Tracy McGrady up off the bench. T-Mac led a West 8-0 scoring run in the second quarter to tie the game, which included a tomahawk dunk and an impressive three-point play.

The game normally gets competitive in the fourth quarter but really it seemed to die out before the end of the third. The East established a ten-point lead and extended it further when Shaq woke up and realised he had less than ten points! He finished with 15 for the night.

Iverson seemed to have the MVP award locked in from the first quarter, although Sam Cassell gave him a run for his money by almost bringing the West back into contention single-handedly. In the 4th he connected on 2 back-to-back 3-pointers and then set up Kevin Garnett for a monster dunk that manged to elicit a response from the crowd.

Iverson, along with Andre Iguodala who won the MVP award in the Rookie Challenge game, can take his trophy back to Philadelphia with the knowledge that he was the only real All-Star on display tonight.

CLEVELAND AND CHICAGO TRADE FORWARDS

ImageImage

Today the Cleveland Cavaliers announced that they had agreed to a trade with the Chicago Bulls. The Cavaliers will send Ira Newble to Chicago in exchange for Darius Songaila.

Ira Newble has barely played all season for the Cavaliers, and has accepted that it would be a constant battle for him to try and fight into the Cleveland set-up. He has moved to Chicago with hopes of reviving his struggling career. Chicago will receive a good all-rounder, who will also add some experience to the young Chicago set-up. Newble will wear the number 14 jersey in Chicago.

Cleveland will receive a player that was also struggling at his previous club. It is no secret that Songaila only has a year left on his contract, and the move was seen by many a cynic as a way for Cleveland to free up more cap space. A Cleveland spokesperson said:

"We see Darius as a good player, although one who might not fit into our current plans. We have held lengthy discussions with him and if it does not work out here for him we will do our best to promote him so that he is able to find a club that suits him."

Darius Songaila will wear the number 25 jersey for the Cavaliers.

Cleveland Cavaliers (113)
@
Golden State Warriors (106)

---

The Cleveland Cavaliers welcomed the return of LeBron James to action tonight. King James showed his loyal subjects exactly what they had been missing, dropping a double-double en route to victory over Golden State.

King James posted 30 points and 10 assists, as well as six steals, in hirst game game back since breaking his toe. He was joined in the double-double club by the ever-improving Drew Gooden who put up 22 points and 10 rebounds. Zydrunas Ilgauskas had carried the team with Gooden during James' lay-off. Ilgauskas put up 16 points and 4 blocks and would have stuffed his stat-sheet further had it not been for a minor injury suffered in the third quarter.

It was another great team performance from the Cavs who, buzzing from the return of James, put up another great defensive display and shot 60% from the field. The 'bench all-stars' Dan Gadzuric and Anderson Varejao led the second string again. Gadzuric posted 9 points and 2 blocks, whilst Varejao had 6 points and 4 rebounds.

Golden State were also up for the fight, but were overwhelmed in three straight quarters. The Cavaliers had a 12-point lead going into the 4th, but had the lead cut to 4 as the Warriors hit 4 back-to-back shots in a minute. They were led by Jason Richardson who had the game high 38 points, and Baron Davis who added 9 assists.

The Cavaliers should have put the game to bed when the Warriors resolved to fouling, but Eric Snow went an embarrasing 1-6 from the free throw line in the closing minutes. Thankfully, Drew Gooden hit 4 straight free throws as the Cavaliers secured a 7-point victory.

In a post-match interview, LeBron James refused to take credit for the victory. He said that the only reason he managed his double-double was because of the support he received from his team. "We attack as a team and defend as a team," he said. He also highlighted that the team had grown since he last played and said that he was proud to be a part of it.

The victory takes the Cavaliers to a 16-6 record for the season.

Game #23:

Los Angeles Clippers (87)
@
Cleveland Cavaliers (105)

---

The Cavaliers edged one step closer to the playoffs with an easy victory over the Clippers. LeBron James led the way with 29 points and 9 assists, while the injury suffered to Drew Gooden in the first minute did nothing to slow them down.

Gooden was replaced by Anderson Varejao, who produced his season high 14 points. It was revealed that Gooden had suffered a broken toe, and he is likely to miss three weeks of action. Meanwhile, the high numbers Gooden had been putting up were taken over by Zydrunas Ilgauskas who had 20 points, as well as the team-high 7 rebounds and 4 blocks.

It was LeBron James though who ensured the victory as he exploded with 15 points in the fourth quarter. James watched from the bench as the Cavs' lead was cut to six but he didn't let it get any further as he opened up a 15-point gap for the home side with 9 straight points.

Mike Brown made one change to the starting five by replacing Eric Snow with Damon Jones. This seemed to work well for both men as Jones put up 10 points, whilst Eric Snow managed a 5/4/3/4 game. The other notable bench performance came from Dan Gadzuric, who managed 9 points aas well as 3 rebounds and 4 blocks.

The Clippers were not allowed to flow or gather any momentum all night, as the Cavaliers produced another strong defensive display. Sam Cassell spearheaded the Clipper's attack with 28 points and 6 assists, but it was not enough as the Cavaliers held out for another W. The Cavaliers now have a great season record of 17-6.

Game #24:

Cleveland Cavaliers (81)
@
Seattle Supersonics (99)

---

It was a mediocre night for the Cavaliers as they failed to beat an under-performing Seattle side. LeBron James scord 23 points and added 8 assists but that could be considered the highlight of the Cavaliers' evening.

Anderson Varejao failed to continue his impressive form as a starter as he only put up 5 points on 2-10 shooting. The only highlight from the bench came in the form of Donyell Marshall, who put up 9 points and grabbed 4 rebounds.

The Sonics struggled themselves but they at least managed some consistent play in the second half, which ultimately got them the win. Ray Allen and Luke Ridnour provided the ammo as Vladimir Radmanovic eld the team in scoring. Danny Fortson grabbed 15 rebounds to prevent the Cavaliers from taking second shots for the majoirty of the night.

The Cavaliers' season is dented slightly and they now have a 17-7 record.

Game #25:

Cleveland Cavaliers (108)
@
Los Angeles Lakers (111)

---

It was a battle of the superstars and Cleveland's LeBron James couldn't keep up with Los Angeles' Kobe Bryant. James put up a season-high 42 point game (As well as 6 rebounds, 7 assists and 8 steals) but that was largely overshadowed by Kobe's 56-point game.

The Cavaliers are nearly back to full strength with Michael Redd recovered from injury, and Drew Gooden expected back for the next game. With Gooden still out however, Anderson Varejao continued to impress with 14 points. Although James ahndled most of the scoring, Zydrunas Ilgauskas still managed 18 points (With 6 boards and 4 blocks), and Michael Redd managed 16 points.

The Cleveland bench was not as potent as usual, as Darius Songaila is still struggling to adapt to his teammates. Both he and Damon Jones were cold for the night. Dan Gadzuric had a decent game off the bench with 6 points, 3 rebounds and 2 blocks.

The Cavs will not only welcome back Drew Gooden's scoring, but also his rebounding. Cleveland have been getting out-rebounded in recent games, notably at the offensive end. Gooden is averaging over 7 boards a game and so that will be helpful when it comes to stopping second shots.

Cleveland lose their second game on the bounce and leave the game with a season record of 17-8.

Utah Jazz (96)
@
Cleveland Cavaliers (107)

---

The Cavaliers returned to winning ways by rolling over the Utah Jazz. LeBron James led the team with 33 points, while Zydrunas Ilgauskas weighed in with 18 points, 5 rebounds and 4 blocks.

Cleveland outscored the Jazz in each quarter and had it not been for a fine individual performance from rookie Deron Williams, Utah would have been out of it by the third quarter. Williams led his team in scoring (30) and assists (6), whilst Mehmet Okur added 9 boards.

Cleveland's main threat off the bench came in the form of back-up centre Dan Gadzuric, who has surely earned himself a new contract come the end of the season. The Dutchman weighed in with 10 points, to go with 2 boards and 2 blocks.

The Cavaliers defence was sturdy for the majoirty of the game, with only a late push in the 4th from the Jazz being cause for concern. With the defence doing their job, King James led the offence with style. On two different occasions in the game, the Cavs went on 12-0 scoring runs.

This victory takes Cleveland's season record to 18-8, with only three games to play.

Game #27:

Charlotte Bobcats (98)
@
Cleveland Cavaliers (120)

---

For the first time in a long time the Cavaliers were at full strength. And it showed. They swept aside the Bobcats like it was a practice game, engineering a 22-point victory for their second straight win. LeBron James got in foul trouble early, but still managed to put up 34 points. With King James riding the bench for a while, Michael Redd took voer the majority of the scoring. Both he and Drew Gooden managed 16 points apiece, whilst Eric Snow chipped in with 7 points.

The main talking point however was the blocking ability displayed by the Cleveland big men last night. Dan Gadzuric had 10 points off the bench and had 3 blocks. Anderson Varejao also had 10 points off the bench, but he managed 4 blocks. Both these were topped however by Zydrunas Ilgauskas, who managed 18 points and 8 blocks!

A young Bobcats team was overwhelmed for the majoirty of the game, although there were occasional flashes of brilliance from current rookie of the year Emeka Okafor and rookie Raymond Felton. Cleveland's dominance was highlighted when Charlotte benched all their starters for the majoirty of the foruth quarter, allowing bench players to get minutes as the Cavs secured the W.

After the game, Head Coach Mike Brown commented on how the defence/offence of the Cavaliers seemed to have finally gelled. He also said that winning the remaining two games would give the Cavs some momentum going into the playoffs. They are currently battling it out with Detroit for the Central Division Championship, with the winner likely to also be the top seed in the East.

The victory gives the Cavaliers their 19th win of the season, leaving their current record at 19-8 with two games left to play.

Game #28:

ImageImage

Toronto Raptors (98)
@
Cleveland Cavaliers (96)

---

Has playoff qualification put the Cavaliers in the cofort zone? It seemed that way tonight as the Cavaliers fell at home for only the second time this season against the Toronto Raptors. LeBron James led the way with 31 points and 8 assists, but he was overhwled by feloow '03 draftee Chris Bosh, who had 35 points and 19 boards!

The Cavaliers' slump began in the second quarter and lasted until the start of the 4th. While Cleveland couldn't buy a basket, Tornto were scoring at will. And when they weren't scoring, they were rebounding. Despite having a stunning 7 blocks (And 13 points), Zydrunas Ilgauskas was unusually quiet, whilst Drew Gooden just wasn't in the game tonight.

Perhaps the lone bright point for the Cavaliers was the emergence of a potentially great double act between LeBron James and Michael Redd. The duo began to shine at the end of the 1st quarter, as they took turns in setting each other up for dunks. They returned again in the 4th with Redd setting up James for a dunk, followed quickly by James setting up Redd for a game-tying three-pointer. They combined for 55 points.

Despite being in the playoffs, the loss tonight cost the Cavaliers the top spot in the Central Division, as they slid from 2nd to 4th in the Eastern Conference play-off spots. They now have a season record of 19-9 with one game left.
