The Bogeyman Fails to Scare Pistons
Andrew Bogut was held to 8 points and 9 rebounds in the Bucks’ 97-72 loss

13 Oct, Detroit – Michael Redd came out of the game injured and Andrew Bogut failed to impress as the Wallace Bros. held the Australian rookie down. TJ Ford led the Bucks with 19 points and 8 assists and Desmond Mason butchered his way towards 17 points as Milwaukee suffered a blow out.

“We came into the game too passive,” Toni Kukoc said of the game, “Next time we need to play two times harder.”

The Pistons pulled in 56 rebounds and swatted an amazing 14 shots. Ben Wallace had 7 of those blocks and Rasheed Wallace grabbed 15 rebounds to go with his 26 points. Rip Hamilton shot down the Bucks single-handedly with a 31 point performance and Chauncey Billups chipped in 21 points.

“I guess we just had the upper hand tonight,” Prince said. Darko Milicic who was promised that he would get more playing time saw 5 minutes of garbage time thanks to new coach Flip Saunders. He didn’t disappoint as he scored 6 points including a monstrous put back dunk and added 4 boards and 2 dimes.

Andrew Bogut blamed himself for his poor performance, "Inexperience really hurt me tonight. The Pistons have the two Wallaces and have won the championship before but I know I can play at a high level. I just didn't come through tonight."

That's because he is basically showing whats going on around the league with players that moved from a different team and for new rookies.

Nice job on those recaps btw, also were you going to download someone's shoe patch too? I know it's not a big thing to some people, but it just makes the pictures more interesting when you see the new shoes on them

Heat Not That Hot Afterall
Bobby Jackson leads Grizz to 30 point thrashing

Image
ABOVE: Bobby Jackson (24) scored 33 points from the bench

14 Oct, Memphis – The Miami Heat were stone cold as the left Memphis with their second preseason loss. The first half was sloppy and was capped off by Pau Gasol and Alonzo Mourning exchanging words while Damon Stoudamire and Dwyane Wade exchanging fists.

Gasol led his team with 21 points, 16 rebounds and 6 blocks in just 32 minutes to upstage Shaquille O’Neal. Shaq who has boasted to media about the depth of his Miami team had to take his words back once again as the Heat failed to even come close to pulling in a win. O’Neal was matched by Gasol and reached 22 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks, even though he missed 11 free throws.

“I just couldn’t get the engine started tonight,” O’Neal admitted to failing his teammates, “If I can’t play well, my guys can’t do well. It’s just something I need to work out by myself.”

The first quarter was started by a Grizzlies 15-2 run in which no one could stop Mike Miller and Damon Stoudamire’s hot shooting. O’Neal then stepped up to finish the period with 12 points but couldn’t put Miami close to the home team. Wade couldn’t find his storke and succumbed to the defensive pressure as he shot 9 for 23 from the field to finish on 24 points.

The game was sloppy as it was due to a very slippery surface and hard fouls. Gasol who had slipped and fell hard to the ground, glared at Alonzo Mourning believing that Mourning had knocked him down. The two giants were seen confronting each other, staring at each other with intent to strike a blow at each other’s head at any second. However, it was their guards who did it for them.

With the Heat trailing only by 11, Wade and Stoudamire were entangled in a fist fight. “No one is going to push over any friend of mine,” newly signed Stoudamire said of Gasol. Wade defended Mourning telling media, “Zo didn’t lay a hand. They lied and didn’t take it back.” The two were separated by officials and the half was called off with only 1:35 left.

The Heat’s momentum was dealt a blow as they couldn’t get their running game back on. The third quarter was slow as Miami missed too many shots even though they did outscore the Grizzlies for the quarter. Then the fourth quarter allowed former Sacramento King Bobby Jackson burn Miami with 16 fourth quarter points.

“Bobby was amazing tonight, every shot fell for him,” Mike Miller who had scored 20 points exclaimed in awe. Jackson went on to score 33 points and dish out 5 assists off the bench and ensure that Memphis would keep the Heat behind them. With 7:18 left, the game was in the Grizzlies’ bag as they led by 21 points.

Dwyane Wade is expected to be suspended for the next game by the Heat for getting entangled with Stoudamire. The two await a hearing by the NBA’s board for their behavior during the game. Fines are expected to result.

The game was a chance for former Grizzlies’ players James Posey and Jason Williams to return home. Many fans had signs for them and after the game caught up to tell them that they were missed. Mike Miller commented, “James and Jason are two guys who always worked hard at trainings and stuff. They were important for us, that’s undeniable.” Posey finished with 11, 7 and 5 and limited Battier to only 7 of 17 shooting. Willaims struggled to score but finished on a respectable 11 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals while harassing Stoudamire into a 2 for 8 night.

Notes

The Heat lost by 31 and the team missed 27 free throws… Kobe Bryant and the Lakers easily accounted for the Denver Nuggets overnight… Atlanta lost their third straight game to the Philadelphia 76ers… Antoine Walker might have lost his starting spot after two woeful preseason performances…

Portland’s Inexperience Exploited
Carmelo scores 25, Boykins adds 18, Denver win 102-88

15 Oct, Denver – The Portland Trailblazers have one of the youngest teams in the League. Denver, another young team showed them up and proved that any type of experience counts. The Nuggets who have been to the playoffs in both of the last two years sent the lottery plagued Blazers to an embarrassing loss.

Carmelo Anthony scored 25 and 10 rebounds and George Karl’s team put in a joint effort to show the visitors how to play basketball. “In this game, we executed our offence to near perfection. That’s what made us win,” Karl commented.

Sebastian Telfair led his team with 16 points, 9 assists and 3 steals. Martell Webster added 15 points and Zach Randolph, Travis Outlaw and Juan Dixon each added 13. “We played very passive tonight. We’ve got to get our act together,” rookie PG Jarret Jack stated.

The Blazers’ weaknesses were exposed in the second quarter when Denver went on a 19-3 run and took over the game. Portland never got within single digits again.

Q Sinks the Mavericks
Barrage of long range bombs stops Dallas 93-79

16 Oct, New York – German sniper Dirk Nowtizki hit 5 three pointers to reach 31 points. Quentin Richardson went two better to hit 7 treys and reach 28 points while his new team pulled out a win.

The Knicks were on fire form behind the arc as Stephon Marbury and Jammal Crawford made contributions of another 6 extra three pointers to boot. The Kincks’ lead just couldn’t be caught by the Mavericks whom misfired on too many open opportunities.

Marbury finished on 19 points and 10 assists while Crawford added 22 points. The Knicks’ firepower was just too much for Dallas while energy player Nate Robinson came off the pine to further embarrass the visitors with his deadly drives towards the hoop. Robinson finished with 8, 3 of his 4 baskets were dunks.

Dallas couldn’t counter their opponents’ efforts as Jerry Stackhouse was the only other scorer in double digits with 14 points. “We played horribly tonight,” Coach Avery Johnson said, “Maybe we will be able to come back tomorrow night.”

I was shocked that the Heat loss by a big margin against the Mavs. Maybe try starting Haslem instead of Walker next time.
