Are you eventually gonna be doing a Live 06 dynasty?

Thanks, thaKEAF!

I'll eventually do an 06 dynasty, but it'll probably be awhile since I'm cheap (I'm gonna wait until the price comes down...usu around Christmas or January)...

Pointing the Bulls in the Right Direction

By Stan Smith

The 2005-06 season is dawning and every team, starting with a clean slate, dreams big. Each GM thinks their team has what it takes to win the championship.

If you're Bulls GM Melanie, you think the Larry O'Brien trophy should be handed over to her now.

Last season, taking over for John Paxson, she molded the Bulls into a Dream Team, assembling LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Amare Stoudemire and Dirk Nowitzki to complement Colicky Boy. In the process, Melanie also made sure to get king-sized cap room for the off-season...over $20 million to play with.

Her efforts landed her the NBA's Executive of the Year award, a historic honor for a rookie general manager. But the trades left her bench bone dry and when the Bulls faced the Spurs in the Finals, the disparity in benches proved to be the difference as San Antonio won the title.

Melanie re-doubled her efforts and, using her mega cap space, bringing Tyson Chandler back to the Bulls along with Chris Bosh, Kyle Korver and heralded rookie free agents Tiago Splitter, John Gilchrist, Kennedy Winston and Jawad Williams.

"I think our second-team could start for many NBA teams," beamed Melanie. "Everyone ripped my bench last year but that hole has been fixed now. I don't think we have a weakness anymore."

Other GMs agree... and that makes them unhappy about Dream Team Reloaded.

"They might not lose a single game next year with that roster," said Memphis GM Jerry West. "It's like the Dream Team, except they're playing teams like us instead of other countries."

"Your only hope last year was waiting for the Bulls to go to their bench," said Knicks President Isiah Thomas. "Then you had a chance. Now when they go to their bench, you have no better chance than when their starters were on the floor."

We caught up with Melanie before the Bulls embark on their voyage to the Finals...

ESPN: Did you know that Tyson Chandler would not re-sign with Dallas?
Melanie: Yes, we knew he wanted to come back and as long as we made a reasonable offer, we knew he'd come home.

ESPN: Are you disappointed in Eddy Curry for not wanting to take the DNA test?
Melanie: We would have loved for Eddy to play for the Bulls. That's why we traded for him. But I don't want to put this organization under any unnecessary risks. If Eddy doesn't feel the DNA test is unnecessary, then I'd rather another team, like the Raptors, assume that responsibility.

ESPN: Did your offseason go according to your plan?
Melanie: Yes! I would've loved to bring Ben Gordon back home too but that didn't work out. Everything else, though, went just as I wanted. Our bench is deep and strong, and now we expect no dropoff in talent when our starters need a blow.

ESPN: Are you planning for next season's free agency?
Melanie: I did look at the available free agents for next season and let's just say I'm glad I made the offseason splash I did this season. I'm very happy with the team that I have now.

ESPN: Are you done remaking the team?
Melanie: For now, yes. I'm always willing to listen to offers and always looking to improve the team, so I can't say nothing else will happen going forward.

ESPN: How difficult is it to be the only female GM in this league?
Melanie: It's certainly not easy. Other GMs, since they're all male, think girls don't know anything about basketball, or evaluating talent. So they try to lowball me. But I've shown I can hold my own. And [Lakers exec] Jeanie Buss has sort of paved the path for me.

ESPN: Lastly, how many wins do you think this team will amass this season?
Melanie: I don't care as long as we win the Finals. That's all I care about. We can be the 8th-seed, winning 45 games, as long as we get the trophy.

Thanks, man. I'll probably start playing the games soon. Mel wanted to make to see if she could get another trade first, but she's not getting any takers so far. When she gives up :), I'll get the 05-06 season going.

Thanks, Balla69. The free web host I was using has been down for awhile now (can view it but can't upload to it), so I haven't been able to update it yet...

Actually, pistons_rock, I didn't post anything mean-spirited. I know things can get misunderstood, so if you took it as tearing you down, I definitely didn't mean it like that, dude. Hopefully, if you re-read what I posted, you'll see that. If not, holla back.

And these stories aren't about who's got the best dynasty... so don't worry about that, man. For me, it doesn't matter how many game pix you have or what your photoshop skills are...it's all about telling the story... what's a GM thinking, what coaching strategies were made, what happened in key games, how you handle losses and what-not. Believe it or not, I like what you're trying to do...it's just hard to follow what's going on when you race through the season.

The Philadelphia 76ers have announced the signing of free agent Grady Peeler, a 6' 9" small forward from Cedarville University.

Here's an ESPN SportsCenter update on the latest free agent signings...

Sixer Fixers

Davis: Despite making the playoffs last season, the 76ers were largely ignored by many analysts as Eastern Conference contenders for the upcoming 2005-06 season. But that may change after today.

Cohn: Philadelphia has significantly upgraded their team by signing three unheralded but very promising rookies: Grady Peeler of Cedarville University, Sam Keon from the Canadian national team, and Alex Buckley of Penn State University.

Davis: Grady Peeler is a 6' 9" forward who is very comfortable with his back to the basket, so he'll pose defensive problems for most threes who aren't used to defending post players. But Peeler is also a threat beyond the arc, which makes him a difficult matchup for fours who will have to come out of the paint to defend him. He has good offensive awareness and has a nice scoring touch inside the lane. His biggest weakness is defending in the post, something he'll have to work hard at. Peeler is in line to be the starting three for the Sixers.

Cohn: Sam Keon is a sweet-shooting small forward who plays like a guard. Think Rashard Lewis, people. This kid has hops, he can pick your pocket, and he can handle the rock better than most threes. There's not much dropoff from Peeler to Keon so the Sixers are stacked at that position and opponents will have their hands full all night. Like many gifted offensive kids, Keon will need to work on the defensive side of the ball. He'll need to build up his strength to prevent being bullied in the paint and will need to improve his defensive awareness on the court.

Davis: And Alex Buckley is a high-flying guard who attacks the offensive basket like few others. He's quick and has good handles. Plus, Buckley is a floor leader both offensively and defensively. One of the better offensive rebounders for his size, he will make opposing guards play defense or pay up. He's already as good as Willie Green even though Buckley is just a rookie. Look for him to be the first guard off the bench.

Cohn: The Sixers, who made the playoffs last year and re-signed Samuel Dalembert to a big contract, have made big steps forward by stockpiling their roster with these three key rookies. They're added quality depth and look to be a force in the East.

Well, this is not an ESPN shot, but hey, I'm short on time. Here's a quick CBS update with Bonnie Bernstein...

More Heat

Bernstein: The Miami Heat don't know when to stop. After acquiring Jason Williams, Antoine Walker and Gary Payton to the nucleus of Shaq and Ben Gordon, Heat GM Pat Riley today signed hot rookie prospect Kaden Radcliff.

Radcliff is a dynamo point guard from Ohio State University. He's automatic from inside, dribbles and penetrates like the ball is stuck to his hand, and is a great finisher at the hoop. He is also a devastating defensive thief and has great awareness on the court at all times. Opponents will want to take advantage of his smallish size and his weak rebounding skills, but he is a lock to start over the turnover-prone Jason Williams and the ancient Gary Payton.

With the departure of Damon Jones to Cleveland, this pickup was huge for Miami and they too, like the Pacers and the Sixers, look to be heavyweight contenders in the East.
