Billups loses the game for Pistons with careless foul

The game was tied at 130 and the Clippers decided to hold the ball until the last second, hoping for the final shot. With Chris Duhon dribbling the clock out, Chauncey Billups marked up on him. With the clock striking 4 seconds Duhon got ready to drive in for the basket, but just has he did, Billups reached in for the steal. The next second, the referee blew the whistle. When the players looked over, the referee was pointing to Billups, signaling the point guard’s 4th foul of the game.

The fans and the Pistons players could only hold their heads in shock. Duhon is a pretty decent free throw shooter, and he showed it by making both free throws. The Pistons heaved the ball down the court and Ben Wallace managed to catch the ball; however his shot bounced off the front of the rim.

The game was close the entire game, with the teams trading points. The Clippers scored 27 in both of the first quarters, while the Pistons scored 33; the score was 66 – 54. The Clippers owned the 3rd quarter however, scoring 33 points to the Pistons 19. The last quarter both teams scored 45, but since the Clippers had a 2 point lead, they ended up winning.

At the start of the last quarter, staring point guard Shaun Livingston drew an offensive charging foul on Richard Hamilton, fouling him out. On the ensuing possession however, Billups drew an offensive charge on Livingston, sending him out of the game. Though you can see, Livingston’s replacement Duhon played just fine.

This was the first game between the teams that exchanged rookies. Several days ago Nelson Lue was traded to the Clippers for another rookie. Erick Fagan. Lue played 9 minutes, but only shot 2-9 for 5 points; Fagen played 11 minutes, though he didn’t have any points.

Game Notes

- Again the Clippers were outrebounded, 41-47.
- The Clippers had 33 assists whereas the Pistons only had 27 assists.
- 26-28 was what the Clippers shot from the line, which was 92.9% while the Pistons shot 33-38 for 86.8%
- Hakim Warrick was amazing off the bench. He played 8 of his 13 minutes in the last quarter since Elton Brand was in foul trouble, and managed to score 15 points.
- The Clippers shot significantly better from downtown. They went 10-21 for 47.6% while holding the Pistons to only 7-20 for 35%
- Chauncey Billups still got named the Player of the Game due to his ridiculous performance of 44 points, 5 rebounds, and 8 assists

Nelson Lue demoralizes Cleveland with clutch shot against Lebron James

With less than a minute left in the game and the Clippers holding on to a 110-112 lead, rookie shooting guard Nelson Lue took the ball and faced up against superstar Lebron James. Lue faked the shot and Lebron didn’t jump, so Lue decided to go up for it; this time James jumps. They both rose at the same time, but Lue just manage to get the ball over James fingertips… and SWISH.

That big shot by Lue demoralized the Cavs. On the ensuing possession, the Cavs missed their shot, and were forced to intentionally foul the Clippers. Free Throw shooting was one of the main factors in the Clippers’ championship run last season, and they have continued their good shooting. They went 5-6 from the line during that last stretch, and the Cavs did managed to score 4 more points, however they couldn’t pull any closer and went down as the 4th straight victim of the Clippers.

Larry Hughes scored 10 of his 22 points during this last quarter, however most of them were in the first half of the quarter; Hughes was almost invisible towards the end of the game.

Um… I kind of didn’t save the earlier game, therefore I had to sim it. The end result was the same, we got our asses kicked, just not by this much. Loss is a loss however…

- 3 players were in double-digits in rebounding, Boris Diaw, Elton Brand, and Corey Maggette
- The 76ers didn’t have anyone in double digits for rebounding, but they had more rebounding distribution

Carlos Delfino misses cruciall last second free throws

With the game tied at 119-119, Pistons guard Carlos Delfino took the ball and spotted up from downtown. However just as he released the ball, a hand came out of nowhere, the hand of Mike Miller. Miller deflected the ball to Nelson Lue, who scored his only field goal of the game on the fast break layup. This layup put the Clippers up 121-119 with only 15.5 seconds left.

Delfino got the ball again with 4 seconds left and again went up for three, however just as he shot, second-year forward Yaroslav Korolev tried to contest his shot and bodied Delfino. Delfino had the chance to tie the game, since the Clippers had converted on 1 of 2 free throws previously. Delfino made the first shot, which brought the Pistons bench to their feet. However his second shot clanked off the back rim; he made his last shot, but now his team was down 122-121. Point guard Anthony Grundy was forced to foul Nelson Lue, who converted half of his free throws, and the game ended, 123-121.

Shaun Livingston finally lived up to his starting position, scoring 18 points and dishing out 12 assists. 6 of the Clippers players scoring in double figures; Chris Duhon was the only bench player with double-digits. Livingston’s counterpart Jameer Nelson led all scores with 25 points and 9 assists.

Not much to say… really tired from moving… still lot to clean up and organize.
