Re: <<Showtime>> Lakers Celebrates 15th NBA Championship

Editing rookies in Live 06 can be quite nerve-wrecking. But A is the best option. :P Or do B and edit only the ones, who got a contract. (Blair, Griffin etc.)

A is definite my pick. Generated rookies have a tendency to be really awful and you're forced to dbf edit them anyway (which is what I had to do), so you might as well get the actual rookies themselves.

Head Coach: Coach Xavier Blake

MGM Grand Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas

"Excuse me Dr. Buss, It's already 8 p.m, your meeting will start in a minute" Team Administrative Secretary Rose Rivera whispered to Dr. Buss, who is about to make his move in his poker session. "Damn, just when I was winning. Ok guys, this is over, I have to go. Time to make money" the Lakers owner said.

At the conference hall, where GM Mitch Kupchak and Coach Xavier Blake are waiting.

"Good Evening Dr. Buss, how's the game? Kupchak said.

"Doing good, so what about our meeting tonight? I want to hear some good news, you know I don't want to change my mood whenever Im in this very beautiful place."

"We have a couple of issues to tackle. We have 5 unsigned free agents, Sasha Vujacic, Juan Navarro, Mareese Speights, Darrell Arthur and Kosta Perovic. I have talked to Sasha and Darrell personally together with their managers, and we came up with a verbal agreement that they liked and are very thankful to our offer. I also talked with Navarro and he said, he will go back to Europe and play with FC Barcelona. Now, we already have 12 players plus our 2 picks, so the problem is we can only sign one of the two free agent. And then there is the Karl Malone comeback. So whose gonna be the lucky 15th man?"

"What do you think coach?" Buss said.

"Well we have a lot of big men now, what we lack is a solid Guard. This could be Derek's (Fisher) last season. We can't rely on a draft pick to save our title defense. I want a playoff-tested combo guard that could play point and could score whenever we rest kobe." said the Lakers mentor.

"So mitch, can u give his demand?" the owner said.

"I'll try and explore our options regarding that matter. It's going to be really hard because of our limited cap, or we have to find a trade partner. Let's go to issue #2, here are the possible rookies that could land in the late first round. Memphis got 250% chance to be #1, OKC #2 with 178% and the Cats #3 with 177%, I'll try to call them if they're available to trade their picks." said GM Kupchak

"I still like our chances at #30, the talent is deep, but If we can get at least that #3-5, I think our problems will be solved and we can now give way to Mr. Malone's title quest. I still like that guy, he's got a strong body but I don't know if the knees are willing to play. Well, I think he's still gonna be a big attraction to the league, media & fans." Buss said.

"Is this why you're a super billionaire Dr. Buss? Coach Xavier said, smiling. At 75, your passion to the team and the game is still on the extreme, that is really amazing. Im simply overwhelmed.

"Haha. You gotta learn from the boss (giving Coach X a pat on the back) and you're on your way to collecting NBA Rings and big fat paychecks." Buss said, adding, "ok, it's time to pack up, business is over, it's time for some pleasure."

Sam Young and Pendergraph are my favourites among those in your scouting report. Hopefully you can knab either one of them come draft time.

Malone is still hungry for a championship. Great idea!. Although at 46 I doubt he can contribute.

As you need a guard from the draft, go with Meeks. Shoots really well from everywhere.

Bynum's Knee No Longer An Issue

Image
FILE PHOTO

Lakers center Andrew Bynum hasn't had any problems with his troublesome knees this offseason. Bynum's agent, David Lee, told the Orange County Register that his client is "doing well" and "feels great."

Bynum had mentioned the possibility of working out with Magic center Dwight Howard this summer, but nothing materialized. Instead, he's been working out in Atlanta, where he has made his home over the past few offseasons. "He's doing great, he's fine, there aren't any problems," Lee added.

Jordan Doing A Kobe, Changes Jersey Number

Image
FILE PHOTO

Jordan Farmar will be switching jersey numbers this upcoming season. Farmar - who will be wearing #1 - is eager to prove his individual talents in a system that doesn’t really cater to that. That may not work if he’s not willing to defer to team. He's had lingering issues regarding his attitude, and (some say) cockiness. Although it might be a stretch, who isn’t expecting a few jabs at the number change?

Jordan used to wear the #1 jersey with Taft High School and UCLA Bruins.

The Lake Show returned to the top of the basketball world earlier this month by capturing its 15th championship with an impressive Finals victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers. Kobe Bryant silenced his doubters and proved that he could win a title in Los Angeles without the help of The Big Diesel.

Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak deserves the championship ring for the role he played by bringing Pau Gasol to the Lakers for Marc Gasol and some scraps. Ever since Gasol joined the Lakers, they went from a mediocre .500 team to a Western Conference powerhouse.

However, the Lakers are not without question marks heading into the off-season. As they have to make the right decisions in signing their free agents to strengthen their core for their title defense. Karl Malone is also heading into this summer as a veteran free agent. The Lakers will have to determine whether or not they can/want to sign the 46 year old, two-time MVP.

Picks Over the Past Five Years

The Lakers have actually done a great job drafting over the past five years. They quietly selected solid picks that were big parts of their championship drive with Sasha at 27th in 2004, Bynum at 10 in 2005, Farmar at 26 in 2006. They also got Pau Gasol for a package centered around picks Javaris Crittenton and Marc Gasol, two picks from 2007. Their two second rounders from 2005 are now contributing role players in Golden State (Turiaf) and Houston (Von Wafer). And Joe Crawford and Cheikh Samb were both signed out of the D-League by the Knicks last season so they got a make some dough and hang out with Mike D’Antoni in the city. Not a bad deal!

2008
Joe Crawford, 58th

2007
Javaris Crittenton, 19th
Sun Yue, 40th
Marc Gasol, 48th

2006
Jordan Farmar, 26th
Chiekh Samb, 51st (traded to Detroit)

2005
Andrew Bynum, 10th
Ronny Turiaf, 37th
Von Wafer, 39th

2004
Sasha Vujacic, 27th
Marcus Douthit, 57th

NBA Players Drafted as the 30th pick

LAKERS PRE-DRAFT WORKOUT

Image

SAM YOUNG
Height: 6' 6"
Weight: 210 lbs
Bday: 06/01/1985
(24 Years Old)
High School: Hargrave Military Academy
Hometown: Clinton, MD
Position: Small Forward
Wingspan: 6' 10.75"
Body Fat: 4.9%
Max Vertical: 33.0
Best Case: James Posey
Worst Case: Joey Graham

Sam Young has an awesome profile for a defender at the next level, but his ability to translate some of his situation skills to the next level will determine how effectively he can display them.

Blessed with athleticism, strength, and an excellent body, Sam Young looks the part and has the work ethic to be a defensive specialist at the next level. Certain parts of his offensive game fit the description of an effective role-player as well. Young was a real go-to guy in college, ranking second on our list in possessions used (17.8) while posting an efficient PPP of 1.03 (5th). Most of his scoring comes from two specific areas: his finishing ability and his catch and shoot jump shot. Around the rim, Young is ranked 4th in this group at 6.5 Pos/G and is 2nd at 1.27 PPP. His 44% shooting in catch and shoot situations is good for 4th and he ranks 3rd in terms of possessions at 5 per game. If he improves the range on his jumper to acclimate the 37.2% three-point percentage he posted as a senior past the NBA-line, he could become a viable offensive role-player who is an even better defender, a la James Posey.

STRENGTHS:
- Back to basket scoring
- Turnaround jumper
- Perimeter defense
- Physical Toughness
- Understands limitations
- Work ethic
- High-level productivity
- Ability to finish around basket
- Athleticism
- Solid frame
- Strength
- Wingspan
- Excellent rebounder
- Ability to catch and shoot

WEAKNESSES:

- Offensive creativity
- Ability to create own shot
- Ball-handling skills
- Ability to defend position at next level?
- Older than class peers
- Passing skills
- Size for position
- Ability to shoot off the dribble

Image

JODIE MEEKS
Height: 6' 4"
Weight: 208 lbs
Bday: 08/21/1987
(22 Years Old)
High School: Norcross
Hometown: Norcross, Ga.
Position: Shooting Guard
Wingspan: 6' 4.5"
Body Fat: 8.0
Max Vertical: 37.0
Best Case: Ben Gordon
Worst Case: Stephon Marbury

Jodie Meeks’ was AJC Player of the Year. He averaged 23-plus points as a senior in high school. In college, he made the 2007 All-SEC Freshman Team and All-America Freshman Team. And he's only 21. His situational statistics are pretty impressive to say the least, as he not only was a very high usage player at Kentucky, but also was extremely efficient at that. He went off the chain against UT, in Knoxville, January 13, 2009, scoring 54 points and sets the UK school record for points and three-pointers (10) in a game, and hits 14 of 14 freethrows. And the crazy thing is ... all he said after the game was "I never got a win here". When someone shatters a superpower NCAA school scoring record (Meeks broke Dan Issel's 53-point mark) and cares more about beating Tennessee in their home arena, well, you probably deserve the record.

STRENGTHS:

- Excellent skill-level
- High-level productivity
- Solid frame
- Dead-eye 3-point shooter
- Ability to come off screens
- Free throw shooting
- Pull-up jumper

WEAKNESSES:

- Average ball-handler
- Ability to defend position at next level?
- Defensive awareness
- Did not win in college
- Limited upside?
- Average athleticism
- Undersized
- Ability to create separation from defender
