Denver @ Cavs

Iverson reminds his old days as Denver ties the season series

Image

First Quarter

Last times these teams met, Cleveland took a solid 105-97 victory over Denver. Things have not changed for the Cavaliers, as they still hold the second spot, but they have changed for the Nuggets, as they dropped from fifth to ninth.

It started off really tense, as both teams did not want to stay behind the other. Nuggets held the lead most of the time, and the great shooting of Donte Greene and Anthony Parker was the main reason they were on their heels, not down by 20.

When Greene hit a three in somepoint, they took the lead, but it was not enough, as the first ended 29-28 for Denvers advantage.

Cavaliers top scorer : D.Greene 9 PTS 1 REB 1 AST
Nuggets top scorer : Nene 6 PTS 2 REB

Second Quarter

The second was just like the first. Nuggets were holding the lead and Cleveland was behind them, not letting them go away too far.

At some point, Denver took a 9 point lead, with the help of the veteran point guard Allen Iverson. Still, Donte Greene was stroking it and he was backed up by Parker, who always got the game back.

Some solid play was also shown from Thaddeus Young, who got eigth points in quick tempo, but the main reason of the Nuggets still keeping the lead was Aaron Afflalo, who hit a three in the end part.

But with Clevelands Baron Davis hitting a buzzer-beater two, the half ended 62-60, with both teams looking to go on a huge run.

Cavaliers top scorer : D.Greene 17 PTS 3 REB 1 AST 1 BLK
Nuggets top scorer : A.Afflalo 15 PTS

Third Quarter

Game picture was pretty much this : Cavaliers score, Denver score back, Cavaliers score, Denver score back. And that was for a quite a while, as both teams were killing it.

But I got to say, the main reason that Denver held a two point lead, was Nenes shooting.

I loved the part when Baron Davis dunked on Chandler, and the next play, AI threw a alley-oop to Chandler.

But with three minutes left, Denver went on a run, and the scoring changed pretty big. They got the lead to four, then to six and at some point, it was a double-digit game at 10.

With Eric Bledsoe hitting a final buzzer-beater from downtown, it ended 96-89, with Cleveland needing a big push.

Cavaliers top scorer : D.Greene 23 PTS 4 REB 2 AST 1 BLK
Nuggets top scorer : A.Iverson 19 PTS 2 AST 3 STL

Forth Quarter

With AI and Nene being on fire, Cavaliers needed somebody else to get the game back for them. And they had two unpredictable players off the bench, as both Manny Harris and Demar DeRozan started scoring and dominating again, and with their help, they got the game to a tie.

But as their play was not enough, Donte Greene started to contribute even more, to just nail them. Denvers AI was on fire at the end, showing his real self.

But with 20 seconds in, Cavaliers went closer and closer, but with the Nuggets great free throw shooters, they had no chance to take the win, as it ended 134-130.

Press Conference :
"Byron Scott, how do you feel about Manny Harris having 15 on the night, and all of his points were in the forth quarter?"
"It just tells me that I have to give him more minutes."

"Iverson, might I say, how does it feel to dominate like in the old days?"
"Well, I want to finish with a bang, so I am trying to take this team to the playoffs."

Conclusion :

I am doubting, but Denver needs to really pick it up if they want a chance in the playoffs. For Cleveland, it is safe to say that continuing their style of play, they will be holding the second spot in the league until the playoffs.

Lakers @ Cavs

Lakers lose another one as Cleveland wins season series 2-0

Image

First Quarter

Last time these teams met, Cleveland took a great win 114-96. This time, Lakers wanted to beat them in their own game. Kobe was looking forward to make quick work of them, as he has a All-Star game to look forward too.

Sadly, Cleveland wanted to show them something different. In the first few minutes, Lakers were still on the heels of the Cavaliers, but DeRozans great game and a some huge defensive game from everybody else, made it really hard to take the lead.

Cleveland got the game to double-digits at some point and continued the play, as it finished 28-18.

Cavaliers top scorer : D.DeRozan 11 PTS
Lakers top scorer : S.Brown 6 PTS

Second Quarter

It started off pretty different to the first. Cavaliers players, who were lead by Parker, started to score big and really helped out the team. Another great helper was Sean Williams, who got his first minutes and posted eight points in a hurry.

With Lakers being down, they knew that they would need somebody to step up. Kobe started to take the scoring pressure, but Varejao and DeRozan held the taps on him, so he could not go on a run.

At some point, it was a 18 point differential, but with Kobe getting some points with the help of Brown, the half finished 58-44.

Cavaliers top scorer : D.DeRozan 13 PTS
Lakers top scorer : K.Bryant 16 PTS 1 AST 3 STL

Third Quarter

As the Lakers were looking pretty motivated, they had nothing on Cleveland. Cleveland however wanted to build their lead, and with the help of Parker, it took two minutes to get the lead to 20 points.

Lakers were still dull, as nobody was helping the team to win. But when Kobe made a put-back dunk, he went on fire and increased his scoring dramatically.

But for his sake, Parker was still pocketing most of his shots, with Griffin, DeRozan and Greene being behind him, as the quarter ended 87-72 for Cleveland.

Cavaliers top scorer : A.Parker 22 PTS 5 REB 1 AST 1 STL 1 BLK
Lakers top scorer : K.Bryant 31 PTS 3 AST 4 STL 1 REB

Forth Quarter

With the Lakers still thinking that they have something in themselves, they did not. As the Cavaliers extended the game to 24, the fans and everybody else in the house got the picture that the game is over.

Coach Byron Scott put in his bench, and they just carried it on there. Kobe was totally tired, and nobody else could help him.

For that, DeMar DeRozan thought that he would start dominating, and so he did, as he got his game really up.

Cleveland was just cruising, and Lakers were panicking, but still, Cleveland took the win, with a solid 121-102 victory.

Press Conference:

"Kobe, how do you feel about your teams play?"
"It sucked. I am very disappointed. Well, without Pau it is harder."

"Demar, another great game for you. How do you feel that you have swept the season series against one of the toughest team in the West?"
"It feels great. I had a good night. I more have to thank the players of my team. Without our amazing coach and players, none of this would be possible.
"

Conclusion :
After this win, Cavaliers are tied again with the Heat, which brings them back to the number one spot battle. As for the Lakers, they have won only 1 of their last 6 games, so the Suns are going away with the first spot for now.

Pegasus, Easiest team to beat by far.

KidJustin, Going that way yeah. Parker has a great jumper from the corner. It is his last season, so I am letting him play, and taking DeRozan off the bench.

Rookies Vs Sophomores

7: Landry FieldsImage
8: Al-Farouq AminuImage
9: Ed DavisImage
10: Greg MonroeImage

First Look: Seems the team is more of a score-inside the paint team, than shooting. With a lot of players, that can penetrate the paint in a hurry, it will be more exciting for us and them, as we will see more dunks and flashy layups.

Team Leader: Safe to say that this team is lead by the number one picks, John Wall and Blake Griffin. With other players being right behind him, some players like DeMarcus Cousins and Wesley Johnson can take charge of the game and change it dramatically.

Stats: Highest points per game - Blake Griffin 18.3 PPG
Highest rebounds per game - Blake Griffin 8.9 RPG
Highest assists per game - John Wall 7.4 APG
Highest steals per game - John Wall 2.6 SPG

Surprises:Two big players: Evan Turner and Derrick Favors, did not make the cut, even though Turner is forth in scoring and Favors... is just bad.

C: DeJuan BlairImage
6: Jonny FlynnImage
7: Wesley MatthewsImage

First Look: A lot of athleticism on this team, which means- a lot of dunking. We are in for a show, as a lot of great dunkers are in this squad, with the likes of Tyreke Evans, Taj Gibson and Terrence Williams.

Team Leader: A sure leader is hard to find, but the biggest threat the rookies could have is Tyreke Evans and Brandon Jennings going off in a hurry.

Stats: Highest points per game - Tyreke Evans 20.6 PPG
Highest rebounds per game - DeJuan Blair 8.2 RPG
Highest assists per game - Brandon Jennings 5.8 APG
Highest steals per game - Tyreke Evans 1.9 SPG

Surprises: Cant say anything else, rather than Darren Collison, who is leading the Sophomores in assists, did not make the cut.

Special Thanks to KidJustin for answering my questions and helping me make the tables. Also using his epic style.

First Look: Huge offensive threat, the whole team can score and put the ball in at all times. You can expect LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony dominate scoring wise.

Team Leader: No doubt, that the Miami Duo, will be infront of this team, along with the two Forwards from the Knicks.

Stats: Highest points per game - Carmelo Anthony 19.0 PPG(third in the league)
Highest rebounds per game - Dwight Howard 9.4 RPG(first in the league)
Highest assists per game - Derrick Rose 5.7 APG(fifth in the league)

  • Four Washington players making the cut
  • 5/12 first timers
  • Stephen Jackson is not in, though Nick Young is

Team Leader: As the scorers are leading this team, their main offense is waited from KD and Kobe Bryant. Still, lot of first-second timers can still prove themselves.

Stats: Highest points per game - Kobe Bryant 22.6 PPG(first in the league)
Highest rebounds per game - DeMarcus Cousins 6.3 RPG
Highest assists per game - Stephen Curry 4.2 APG
Highest steals per game - Monta Ellis 2.0 SPG (first in the league)

Something's wrong here.

There is no way in hell Javale McGee would ever make the All-Star team over LeBron James.

Also, Mustafa Shakur over Favors and Turner in the rookie game? No Harden or Curry for Sophs? rofl

Re: Cavs : [26-10]{ All-Star Weekend Rosters.

Thu Jun 09, 2011 3:18 am

Mavs4Life, It is cool that Dirk is starting. I cannot belive it myself either.

Valdis, Knicks are Knicks, but four Wizards? Okey, Wall is good, but everybody else is just like :O

z02, Well, You got that right :D This is weird as hell, but hey, my association is coming to be weird or smt. Turner was a surprise for me as well.

Sprite Slam Dunk Contest

Thu Jun 09, 2011 3:47 am

Image

They dunk for your pleasure

Image

Every year,we have this one amazing weekend, where all NBA players, put everything aside, and battle it out in different competitions. But one of the main events beside the All-Star Game, is the Sprite Slam Dunk Contest, a four-man battle for glory. With this years competition being really tough, I wanted to take a quick peak of this years contestants.

ImageDeMar DeRozan from the Cleveland Cavaliers: The 6`7 Shooting Guard really knows his stuff, as he has been in the dunk contest before. With his great strength and amazing leaping ability, Demar will have a chance to take the title home this year.
DeMars own comment: "I don't feel like the pressure would be different. I am ready and will prove the fans that I am the one to win it this year."

ImageDwayne Wade from the Miami Heat: With the guy being the only Miami Heat player that has something to do this weekend(yes, both Bosh and LeBron were not chosen to the All-Star game), it will be very interesting to see what he can bring to the table. As Wade has been a great game dunker, he can prove himself even more this following weekend.
Dwyanes own comment: "This is something new, I did not think that I would ever try for this event. I will try to surprise the fans."

ImageJ.R Smith from the Denver Nuggets: One of the great players known for his dunking, J.R never disappoints when he is going up for the slam. Being one of the best dunkers but not winning a dunk contest is a shame, a thing what J.R will try to fix this season.
Smiths own comment: "People know I can dunk, so they know I can bring the house down with a 50. I will certainly do that."

ImageQuentin Richardson from the Orlando Magic: If you think this old-timer wont surprise us, think again. Q-Rich has already surprised us by being in the dunk contest, replacing both Jameer Nelson and Jason Richardson. But now, the spotlight is on him, and he will most certainly deliver.
Richardsons own comment: "Can I get a replacement? Naah, just kidding."

Three Point Shootout

Thu Jun 09, 2011 4:22 am

Image

Image

With Paul Pierce defeating everybody in last years competition, the rules were changed. The shooters now are not blindly chosen, but are the top five 3PT% shooters+last years winner. That being said, it is clear, that this year, Paul Pierce is going to have major competition to look forward to.

ImagePaul Pierce of the Boston Celtics: Being one of the best shooters in the league, the man is pretty confident that he will still hold the title. With nobody stopping him last time, he must bring his A-game again and prove that he is the reigning Footlocker Three Point Shootout champion.

ImageAnthony Parker of the Cleveland Cavaliers, .500 3PT: Stroking from everywhere, Anthony Parker is having an amazing last season, as he is helping Cleveland to go to the playoffs. With his shooting stroke, he might be the most watched man in the contest.

ImageDanilo Gallinari of the Philadelphia 76ers, .470 3PT: Trading from the Knicks to the Nuggets and to the 76ers, Gallinari has been stroking in every team. Being young and full of excitement, he might surprise us all.

ImageRyan Anderson of the Orlando Magic, .468 3PT: The biggest shooter of the contest, Ryan Anderson is hoping that he would do good as the Magic are doing bad. With him and Q-Rich being in 2 contests, they both look to gain more fans.

ImageOmri Casspi of the Sacramento Kings, .466 3PT: Israel shooter wont get his minutes in the rookie-sophomore game, but he does have something to look forward to. Casspi might be a wild card, but he is still a great shooter.

ImageMike Miller of the Miami Heat, .464 3PT: Miller is known to be a great three-point shooter, even more at clutch-times. Now, the man needs to show that he is the fifth best in the league for nothing, he should be the first.
