I went with 3-3-3-5 so that at least NBA Finals gives chance for better team to win if any upsets roll through. I just wanted to keep it close to proportionate to shorter season. And I didn't want playoffs to take forever if I make it myself.

Portland losing to Phoenix isn't really an upset since they finished only 2 games ahead of the Suns in the West. No way Blazers would've come back from 0-2 down in a 5 game series.

Only real upset of 1st Round was Cavs getting swept. In a 7 game series they probably could've clawed their way back into it. Although Cavs are without Redd, no Z or Powe due to trade with me, & Shaq was a non-factor as 76ers would've pushed the pace.

Considering I'm only playing a 3-3-3-5, the only bad team IRL to be in my first year 2nd Round of playoffs is Philly and Wizards (both who were predicted to be low seed playoff teams prior to season anyways) then I'm very happy with that :P I will have to wait & see if any other 2k10 Associations with a 7-7-7-7 playoff format have as good a last 8 as what I've got in their first season (that's if they ever make it through an 82 game season that is).

Yep, Kobe went nuts in series. And it should be a good matchup with Nuggets.

I'm gonna post a Nellieball recap tonight and after that I'll be three weeks away from the playoffs. I think that will be a good test. :) You did get lucky though. Wouldn't have been surprised if the Hawks had gotten swept.

Honestly I've seen bad results in 7-7-7-7 playoff format in NBA games. It's the sim engine more than the 3-3-3-5 playoff format. Naturally the shorter the series the more less close to the bell curve that they will be, but I'm happy with it at present. Maybe the 5-5-5-5 playoff format, which I did ponder seriously before starting my Association, will prove best balance.

Agreed, look at the 2 seed Hornets and 3 seed Nuggets losing in mines!!! And the 3 seed Wizards losing to Detroit and the 6 seed Pistons have an amazing shot at knocking out 2 seed Cleveland... I'm very worried that 6 seeds Warriors and Pistons will make the NBA Finals. (N)

Hurray at the Sixers winning :)

Two big upsets imho, the Celtics getting beat by the Wizs is also quite an upset. Jamison had awesome stats in that decisive game.
Sucks that the Mavs are already out, especially as the Rockets are not that good.

Pistons wouldn't be as bad as Warriors, but yes, wouldn't want to see both of them in it (N)

Yep, I would've liked the Mavs to advance. Dirk was great, but Shawn Marion & Josh Howard disappeared. I don't think it helped that Damp was playing injured. Mavs missed his presence inside against Yao.

2010 PLAYOFF PREVIEW - 2nd ROUND
By The X
9 May 2010

With the exciting 1st Round of the 2010 NBA Playoffs over, let's take a quick look at the 2nd Round match-ups and I'll once again weigh in with my predictions:

EASTERN CONFERENCE

(1) Atlanta v (5) Washington

Projected Lineups:
Atlanta: A.Horford/J.Smith/J.Johnson/J.Crawford/M.Bibby/M.Williams (6th)
Washington: F.Oberto/A.Jamison/C.Butler/R.Foye/G.Arenas/M.Miller (6th)

Key Injuries:
Atlanta: N/A
Washington: SF-M.Miller (Hurt - Strained Groin)

The Atlanta Hawks powered by the Knicks in the 1st Round with ease, however the battle-hardy Wizards should prove much tougher, as the Celtics can no doubt attest to. In the end I think the Hawks will be too good for the Wizards and will advance to the Eastern Conference Finals. For the Wizards to have a chance of stealing it, they need team captain Antawn Jamison to continue putting up monster numbers.

Prediction: Atlanta win series 2-1

(2) Orlando v (6) Philadelphia

Projected Lineups:
Orlando: D.Howard/B.Bass/R.Lewis/V.Carter/J.Nelson/M.Pietrus (6th)
Philadelphia: S.Dalembert/E.Brand/T.Young/A.Iguodala/A.Iverson/L.Williams (6th)

Key Injuries:
Orlando: N/A
Philadelphia: N/A

The Magic took all 3 games to dismiss the pesky Nets, and they should find the Philadelphia 76ers even more pesky. The 76ers shocked everybody but themselves with their series win over Cleveland, but I just can't see them replicating this sort of form consistently. The Magic should be too good if it comes down to a third and deciding game.

Prediction: Orlando win series 2-1

WESTERN CONFERENCE

(1) Denver v (4) Los Angeles Lakers

Projected Lineups:
Denver: Nene/K.Martin/C.Anthony/J.R.Smith/C.Billups/T.Lawson (6th)
Los Angeles Lakers: A.Bynum/P.Gasol/R.Artest/K.Bryant/D.Fisher/L.Odom (6th)

Key Injuries:
Denver: SG-J.R.Smith (Hurt - Plantar Fasciitis)
Los Angeles Lakers: N/A

Melo against Kobe, that's what this one will come down to. Sure, there's other great players on both sides, including Billups for Denver and Pau Gasol for LA, but two of the NBA's most proliferate scorers will decide this. Whilst the Lakers were too good in last year's Western Conference Finals, I think the Nuggets, with home court advantage, have what it takes to advance. Either way, this one will probably go down to the wire and with no Trevor Ariza to save the day like last year, the Nuggets will advance to the Western Conference Finals for the second straight season.

Prediction: Denver win series 2-1

(2) Houston v (6) Phoenix

Projected Lineups:
Houston: Yao/L.Scola/S.Battier/T.Ariza/A.Brooks/T.McGrady (6th)
Phoenix: C.Frye/A.Stoudemire/J.Dudley/L.Barbosa/S.Nash/J.Richardson (6th)

Key Injuries:
Houston: N/A
Phoenix: SF-G.Hill (Out - Torn Achilles), PF-L.Amundson (Out - Torn Achilles)

Rolling over the Blazers was no small task, however I can no longer back the Suns to advance any further after hearing the sobering news that veteran starting forward Grant Hill tore his achilles tendon in practice this past week. Hill's loss can not be understated and it is a massive blow to the Suns' championship aspirations. I think the Rockets' depth and balance will be too much for the Suns as the Rockets will sweep Nash & Stoudemire out of the playoffs.

Prediction: Houston win series 2-0

Glad you are looking forward to it. Although honestly, it probably will happen slowly due to being back at work full-time, have to ramp up my study big-time for a big exam in just over 5 weeks. Haven't done any study for it yet & I can not afford to fail it. So I'll most likely have a bit of a hiatus for the first couple of weeks of February. I hope to have off-season done before this time, so a bit of a break before new season starts :P

Yep, I agree. Anybody playing that Lakers' team has to be considered underdogs regardless of who has homecourt advantage
