I might do both at the same time. I only have to play the game against Chicago again.

Uprise [14-2] :: LaMarcus powers Blazers past Bulls

Thierry's Blog: LaMarcus powers Blazers past Bulls
TrailBlazers.com | November 24th, 2009

When we arrived at their hotel in the wee small hours on Monday morning, LaMarcus was upset with his performance against Minnesota, so he dropped his bags and went straight to my room. He was upset with the way he had played, and just wanted some direction, and an idea of what he could to get better, but I told him there wasn't anything he could do, I mean, he had 12 and 12 for a solid game, but he still felt it wasn't enough. We talked for a while, and then I brought the whole team together and watched the entire game against the Wolves over again.

We stopped the DVD over and over and looked at just about every offensive set. It also ws a great chance to sit one-on-one with the point guards and pick apart everything we're doing. It was obviously a productive meeting, even if it meant neither man got much sleep. Before lunch, rather than hold the normal game-day shootaround, we met in a meeting room at the hotel for three hours. The bus, on the way to game, was very quiet, and very intense. Incredibly, perhaps the most impressive stat in the game against the Bulls was the fact that LaMarcus had 20 and 10 staying perfect from the field, including 10 in the second period, when the major damage was done. That tells me that the talk we had really paid up. We ended the night with a bit of a refreshed attitude. The mood was certainly lighter on the bus on the way to the hotel. I was still buried in my laptop watching tape of this Chicago contest, and preparing for the New Jersey Nets, but everyone was pleased. I gave the team tomorrow (Tuesday) off and we'll hold our shootaround on Wednesday, and will get set to host the Nets on Wednesday night. Check the Slam Covers I found on the net, including our big man Greg... I know they are from last season, but I just couldn't leave them behind :P

Brandon smirked at the notion that Greg will need more time than usual to regain his form after sitting out this game. “His rhythm will be back. He won't lose it. I'm also sure he will go 100 miles an hour when he's back,” he said. Greg suffered a hyper-extended left knee in the game against Minnesota and will miss at least 3 more contests. But the player with rhythm tonight was LaMarcus, who scored early, often and from all over the court in a 20-10 effort that led Portland to a 94-80 victory over the Chicago Bulls. “Everytime you play against players like Deng, Rose or Maggette, it's good motivation,” LaMarcus said. “But for me personally, I'm in my groove right now. It felt great tonight, watch out!” He stayed perfect from the floor, 10-of-10, to finish with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Brandon scored 17 and fellow shooting guard Rudy added 11 points to help their team maintain a double-digit lead through most of the second half. “I just got some shots to fall early,” Brandon said. “When you do that, things start feeling a little better and those shots don't look as daunting as they do when you miss a couple at the beginning.” Corey Maggette scored 20 to lead Chicago, which has lost four straight games. John Salmons scored 18 points and Tyrus Thomas added 10.

After this impressive start to the season, us Blazers looked at this matchup as a chance to measure their improvement from last season, and what an improvement! The second quarter was really good. The guys just don't take a night off. If you beat another team, it's because you were better than them. It's not because they gave it to you. We began to pull away with a 13-2 run led by Brandon, whose eight points during the surge included a driving scoop shot and a 3-pointer as he was fouled. Very little was going right for the Bulls, which were struggling even to hit foul shots. They began turning the ball over as they attempted to force a faster tempo. A particularly demoralizing moment came when Thomas fought for a difficult rebound, only to miss Derrick Rose with his outlet pass. Jerryd ended up with the ball and burst into the lane for a double-clutch reverse layup; he finished with 10 points and 5 assists, but himself said his shot selection wasn't acceptable. “Personally, I had a hard time executing what I wanted to accomplish,” he admitted. “The Bulls made me pay for this small mistakes.” Jerryd missed four straight shots and the Bulls started a 10-1 run (a free throw by Brandon) in the second quarter, but honestly, we were shooting so well in the third quarter, that there wasn't much Chicago could do anyway, as they seemed to have lost their range: they were 3-of-13 shooting on 3-pointers and shot 40.2 percent for the game.

The Trail Blazers are now 7 and 1 in their home white jerseys. The Blazers jumped out to a 6-0 lead on the Bulls but Chicago ended up leading 23 to 18 after the first quarter. Then we put together a wire-to-wire dominating effort starting in the second quarter for our 5th straight win. At the half, the Bulls never got closer than 10 points, and that was just for a brief moment in the third quarter. By the middle of the fourth, we had the lead up to 12, and late in the game it grew to 14 for the final score. It was as dominating a Blazer win as I can remember in the past two years. We've had nicer wins, against more impressive opponents, but losing after the first quarter, we never even showed the slightest hint of letting down. That's what happened against Chicago. Bulls coach Vinny del Negro said, before the game, it was their game plan to step us from the opening tip, and put them away early. It was a good plan, and one he felt confident his team would execute, but they looked totally unprepared for this inspired squad. Rose, who had 19 points against Denver and 15 against Sacramento last week (both losses), had only 8 points while guarded by Lamar, product of a suffocating defense by the former Laker. I'm also proud that, in 41 field goals, we had 34 assists. That shows ball movement, obviously, and it shows balance. When Brandon is doing everything on his own, the assist numbers are normally very low. On this night, we had Brandon, LaMarcus and Rudy to go to down low. Add to that the deep threats of Jerryd, Travis and Lamar and the Chicago defense was off balance.

Slam Covers, 2008/09 preview, limited collection.

Next game: This Wednesday against New Jersey (surprisingly, 7-7, 2nd Atlantic, 7th East) at the Rose Garden. All our 82 games will be broadcast on the Trail Blazers Broadcasting flagship station, 95.5 FM The Game. Brian Wheeler, in his 12th season calling the play-by-play, and analyst Antonio Harvey, in his fifth season, will call the games, home and away. On television, KGW-TV and Comcast SportsNet will air a total of 75 Trail Blazers games with veteran analyst Mike Rice, in his fifth full season on television after spending the previous 15 years on the radio, and Mike Barrett, in his seventh, calling the action. Between KGW, Comcast SportsNet, TNT, ESPN and ABC, all 82 games will be televised for the third year in a row, and the third time in franchise history. In addition, all games will be available in High-Definition. The ultimate team effort was put on display against Chicago and we will need much of the same tonight against the Nets. This will be a true test... or should I just say that Devin Harris is that "true" test? ...

• We are 50-19 all-time, 29-5 at home, 21-14 at Izod Center;
• After completing a two-game sweep of the Nets in 2008-09, we have now won three consecutive games over the Nets, five of the past six meetings and nine of the last 12. Against the Nets in Portland, we have won five of the last six games and 11 of the past 13;
• The Blazers’ overall winning percentage (50-19, .725) and home winning percentage (29-5, .853) vs. the Nets are their bests among all 29 NBA opponents. New Jersey has swept Portland in only three season series all-time, last in 2002-03;
• Brandon’s 30.0 points (28-33 FT) in two games against the Nets last season led all players in the series. LaMarcus added 19.5 points and 8.0 rebounds (4.0 offensive) in two contests. Six Blazers averaged double digits against New Jersey in 2008-09, including Nicolas, whose 11.0 points in two games against the Nets were more than he tallied against any other team in the league. His 20 points (7-8 FG, 4-4 FT) on March 13, 2009, marked a career-best scoring output;
Devin Harris led New Jersey with 25.0 points and 8.0 assists in two appearances against the Trail Blazers last season. Brook Lopez added 19.5 points (72.7% FG) and 6.0 rebounds in two games;
• Coincidences: my assistant coach Maurice Lucas owns a share of the high for rebounds against New Jersey in franchise history with 18 on Oct. 23, 1976; Nets head coach Kiki Vandeweghe played for Portland from 1984-89. His 23.5 scoring average over five seasons is the highest of any Trail Blazers player, all-time.

Uprise [14-3] :: J. Hayes' OT bomb drops Blazers; injury.

Thierry's Blog: J. Hayes' OT bomb drops Blazers; injury.
TrailBlazers.com | November 26th, 2009

When Jarvis Hayes joined Jeff Van Gundy and Charles Barkley immediately following the win, he rolled his eyes about the way he had shot the ball against Denver, and said, “this is what I need to do.”... talk about clutch. Hayes sank the game-winning jumper over Rudy with 1.5 seconds left. Isn't this the guy who was supposed to find himself out of the rotation this season? The Nets wanted to go big against Denver, and were forced to go small. Then they were outplayed by a small lineup against Denver, after the Nuggets had gone big early in the game to match them. Tonight, the Nets wanted to go big, to match our squad, but couldn't. They tried to slow the pace of the game against the Nuggets and Knicks, and tonight tried to get out and run and speed things up. What we've seen is good coaching by Lawrence Frank. In the game against the Nuggets, Brook Lopez took a knee to the mid-section. And, while that's happened to most guys, not many have been sent to the couch for three days following it. Brook said it “was the worst pain I've ever been through”. He didn't play tonight and won't play against at Sacramento (Nets' next game) Friday. With no Lopez, no Yi, and Tony Battie still a couple of days away (all 3 injured), how would the Nets combat Portland's huge front line? Early, they didn't, as we grabbed a 8-point lead; LaMarcus was having his way inside.

But, then, it looked like we forgot how we got that lead, and basically forgot Lamar. He was visibly steamed at several teammates during the second half when he could not get the ball. Following one of Brandon' forced shots with plenty of time on the shot clock, Lamar barked at him all the way to the huddle, I couldn't believe it. Well, shame the loss, we're still on top of the West... The Nets are starting this season out way better than I'm sure most people expected. Once I started reading just how low all of the magazines ranked that team, I knew it was mostly all biased, based on the last couple of seasons. Tonight proved to me that they can't be underestimated. The Nets are going to be (IMO) the surprise team of the season. New Jersey, although some of you will find it hard to believe, looked awesome at some stages of the game. They swarmed on D and maintained motion on offense. Devin Harris is definitely going to give opposing defenses a hard time. His quickness off the dribble and athleticism near the bucket surprised me a lot. I also think I will need a full paragraph (below) to comment the Brandon-Devin battle. Ah! Remember to watch the vid, second part of the Blazers most memorable moments of the past season.

Jarvis Hayes gave Portland fans a new player to boo. When the second overtime began in a game that already had plenty of thrills, he was ready to settle things. The New Jersey Nets rallied from an 10-point, third-quarter deficit to beat Portland 134-132 in overtime on Wednesday night. Nets coach Frank called Hayes' shot “incredible” as he dribbled past Jerryd and scored the winning jumper over Rudy. “He's been doing that before in some games, but I've never seen a shot like this one,” Frank said. “I was out there watching it just like everybody else. He's a great finisher. That was quite a performance.” Jeered every time he touched the ball, Nets guard Devin Harris sent the game to overtime by draining a 3-pointer with 0.8 seconds remaining in regulation, capping a stretch that saw him score 12 consecutive points for the Nets and finishing the night with 45 points. Our point guard Steve returned the favor, nailing a turnaround 3 from the corner with 2.4 seconds left in the extra session to tie it at 132, but Hayes won it with this jumper on Terrence Williams' inbounds pass to win the contest. “I gotta applaud Roy,” Harris said. “He's an incredible player and he's also great as the Blazers' leading player.” Brandon also scored 45 points and added five dimes in a stellar duel with Harris.

We didn't lose the game only. :cry: We also lost Brandon to a strained left knee when he was pulled down on a flagrant foul by Nets' Chris Douglas-Roberts with 3:11 left in the fourth. Everybody in our bench stand up, everybody was on edge; bigger than the game,I want all my players to be healthy. He fell backward when Douglas-Roberts tugged on the bottom of his jersey as he was going up for a shot. Brandon landed awkwardly, clutching at his left knee. Brandon stayed down for a minute before walking gingerly to the bench. He returned after a timeout but missed both free throws before I replaced him with Rudy and hobbling into the locker room alongside myself and the trainer. As I said, he finished with 45 points and five assists and underwent a quick test by our medical staff. No results are expected until tomorrow, when a second doctor examines the test results. Hopefully isn't serious. “He's an All-Star, he's proven,” Lamar said. “It's a big loss for us but I'm sure he will be at 120% percent when he returns.”

LaMarcus added 18 points and had 11 rebounds in another solid game, but missed a pair of jumpers in the final minute of the fourth period. He called it the toughest loss of his career. “I don't even know what to say, I'm very upset. It's unbelievable. We were winning, we had the game under control, we made a couple of stupid mistakes.” Steve and Rudy each had 14 points for us. Both Devin and Brandon were unstoppable. Both rised up to the occasion in the overtime but it was Hayes who got the money shot. This was was a big game. I'm ain't going to try to downplay it. It was a little disappointing not to get the win but we'll bounce back, I'm sure of that. On a side note, New Jersey's point guard Alston had to go to the locker room early in the third because of an upset stomach, his pre-game pepperoni pizza not sitting right. He returned before the end of the quarter. “I got some fluids up out of me, felt great, came back no problem at all,” he said. Ah, good laughs.

Trail Blazers: Memorable Moments Of 08/09 (2/4)

Next game: Don't forget, all our 82 games will be broadcast on the Trail Blazers Broadcasting flagship station, 95.5 FM The Game. Brian Wheeler, in his 12th season calling the play-by-play, and analyst Antonio Harvey, in his fifth season, will call the games, home and away. Between KGW, Comcast SportsNet, TNT, ESPN and ABC, all 82 games will be televised for the third year in a row, and the third time in franchise history. In addition, all games will be available in High-Definition. We host the Memphis Grizzlies (5-10, 5th Central, 11th West)... at least we are both coming from losses and one of us will be back on winning ways:

• We are 35-19 all-time: 18-8 at Rose Garden and 17-11 on the road;
• Brandon Roy scored 31 points and LaMarcus totaled 22 and 6 rebounds as we knocked off the Grizzlies, 116-94, in the first meeting of this season’s series Nov. 10 in Memphis. With the Blazers winning 53-40 at halftime, we outscored Memphis (led by Allen Iverson's 26 and Rudy Gay's 24 points), 63-54, in the second half of play;
• We have defeated the Grizzlies in eight straight games in all, Portland’s second-longest current winning streak against any NBA opponent (Minnesota, 11) and its longest winning run against Memphis, all-time. We also have won the last four series games in the Rose City and six straight contests in Memphis, Portland’s longest current road winning streak against any team;
• We swept Memphis last season for the second consecutive year by winning all four series contests in the span of 49 days, from Feb. 18 to April 7. The Trail Blazers averaged a 9.5-point margin of victory (94.8-85.3) in the four wins;
• Coincidences: Greg (injured) and Memphis guard Michael Conley played together on Ohio State’s NCAA runner-up team in 2006-07 and also played high school ball together at Lawrence North in Indianapolis; Rudy and Grizzlies center Marc Gasol are both members of the Spanish National Team, which finished second to the USA in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games; Memphis' Zach Randolph averaged 16.0 points (46.6% FG), 7.7 rebounds and 28.9 minutes in 387 games for Portland from 2001-07; Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins played five seasons for Portland from 1975-80 and shared team with Memphis assistant coach Johnny Davis in 1976-77, the year the team got their only NBA Championship to date; Grizzlies assistant coach Damon Stoudamire played for Portland from 1997-2005.

I'm just more into this one, like Lamrock does with his Clips and simulating the Warriors. I'm more into this one and simulating the Spurs.

As I'm really bored right now, I started to replace the CPU generated rookies with your draft information, guys. Also, two games left and I'm doing the month recap...

Congratulations to me for a personal record of 17 games. :dance: :dance: :dance:

    Brandon excited for return to the floor
    TrailBlazers.com | November 27th, 2009

    PORTLAND - When the Portland Trail Blazers' starting lineup takes the court tonight against the Memphis Grizzlies, there will be a familiar face for the squad, that was missed throughout the shootaround this morning. After having a second test by team doctors, Brandon Roy is fully recovered and is expected to start tonight. “It's great that the injury isn't serious at all,” Roy said on press conference a couple of hours ago. “I feel great and I've been taking some shots in the court this afternoon.”

    “I was impressed to see him come back this quickly,” said coach Thierry Tirieux on Brandon's return. “After seeing him hobbling to the locker room last night, I thought he was gonna be in the sidelines for some long time, but it's great news that he won't miss any games.”

Yeah get Oden invloved, having a player like that on the floor is key. I notice a huge difference when I take Dwight out and replace him with the Gortatornator.

Ok, I will give him more minutes when he comes back from injury. He's missing the games against Memphis and Utah.

Thierry's Blog: Jerryd, Blazers roll past Grizzlies

First off, let's discuss the biggest question that's on your mind. Brandon injured his knee in the last minutes of the game against the Nets, and didn't return. He warmed up at the locker room, and after a timeout, he gave it a try and give it a go, but couldn't. Luckily the team doctors checked him a second time today and there was no serious damage at all, so he suited up for the game against Memphis. I really don't know if we will get any other injuries in the near future; the one thing I do know, is Brandon is a tough guy. If he couldn't have been out there, he would have been anyway. He was just held out for the shootaround for precautionary reasons. No reason to think anything other than that at this point. We ended up getting the win over the Grizzlies; all things considered, for the Memphis to be in this thing in the second half, was a testament to the guys who were out there battling. They were totally outsized, and were beaten on the backboards, but never gave up in the game. They never had our lead cut to more than 15 in the second half; could get no closer. In the past few years, Zach Randolph (when with the Clippers or Knicks) and LaMarcus have usually cancelled each other out in these games. It's always a great matchup, and they are players with very similar games.

Randolph ended the game with only 6 points, on 3-of-7 shooting, and grabbed 7 rebounds, but he didn't get to the line. The biggest sequence by LaMarcus, and one that showed his heart and desire, was with 5:58 left in the second period. He stumbled to the hoop and made a difficult shot, but then lost his balance and went down to the floor. Randolph flew to the other end of the floor on the fast break. LaMarcus sprinted, caught him, made the steal on the entry pass to Zach, and took it all the way down the floor, scored, was fouled, and made a three-point play. That made it 35-21 for us. Memphis tried to fight back, but finally fell. It was a solid first half for us, and it was also a good game for LaMarcus, who scored 16 points, on 8-of-14 shooting, and had 6 rebounds and no turnovers. Lamar was also solid, scoring 11 points and pulling down 9 rebounds. Check the video, 3rd part of the most memorable nights of last year.

One week of smothering, record-setting wins and defensive performances has left Jerryd convinced that's what will carry the Portland Trail Blazers. Jerryd scored a career-high 31 points, Brandon added 17 and 13 assists and the Blazers allowed only 72 points in the 102-72 victory over Memphis. “This shows what type of team we can be if we bring that type of approach every night,” Jerryd said to Kevin Harlan after the game. “You just don't have it offensively some nights. But from a defensive standpoint we can definitely be great night in and night out.” But the bumbling Grizzlies made it easy as Brandon only shoot 6-for-18. But Jerryd was 5-of-7 in the first quarter to help the Blazers build a 26-14 lead. Brandon then scored 8 points in the second period, when we led by as many as 17. Then we took a 35-point lead in the third quarter, ending it up by 28; Jerryd and Brandon sat out much of the fourth, when we led by as many as 34. “I was praying for one of those games where we didn't have to play the fourth quarter,” Jerryd said. “I really felt good, offensively and defensively.”

Four players were in double figures for Memphis but none scored more than 12; Michael Conley, Marc Gasol and Rudy Gay posted 12 each, with Allen Iverson adding 10 for Memphis, who committed 12 turnovers (Portland, only 6). “We can't have three or four players out there who are busting their behind and the other 12 aren't doing anything,” Iverson criticized. “We have to work harder on defense to create our offense. A team like that, when you get down 20 points it's tough to come back.” Gay and swingman O.J. Mayo were the poster boys for Memphis' offensive woes. The latter was held to nine points, and both combined for a 8-of-30 shooting performance (26.6%). “I can say this is the worst game I've ever played in my life. It's difficult to shoot 20-footers with a guy in my face” said Mayo. Gay added: “In the same respect it's good the fans who were here, were sticking by us. Maybe if we were anywhere else we'd be getting booed.”

But there were some boos for Memphis early as they missed 20 of their first 28 shots: Iverson missed mid-range and long jumpers, Conley barely hit the iron on consecutive shots, Gasol and Randolph missed tip-ins, and that was when they even got a shot off -- they had 8 first-half turnovers and didn't get its seventh field goal of the game until more than 15 minutes had passed, and by then the Blazers had built a 19-point lead. The Grizzlies weren't much better trying to contain LaMarcus: Gasol and Gay each had two fouls less than five minutes into the game. “Anytime you get two quick fouls... that messes up your flow,” Gasol said. “We never gave up. But every time we look at the scoreboard it's 12 points, then 18 points, 28 points, 35 points and back to 30.” Portland led 48-34 at halftime, with Memphis shooting 25 percent. “Honestly, the only thing you hoped for (the players) was that it would hurry up and get over,” Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins said. I think when we play energetic defensively we can be pretty good. We did some good things.

Trail Blazers: Memorable Moments Of 08/09 (3/4)

Next game: Remember, all our 82 games will be broadcast on the Trail Blazers Broadcasting flagship station, 95.5 FM The Game. Next up for Portland is a visit to our division rivals, the Utah Jazz (7-8, 3rd Northwest, 9th West), tonight. Theorically, is the last game Greg will miss, so don't expect to see him tonight. I talked to him today and he's still in a some amount of pain, and is not having much trouble. He might come off the bench in the game against Miami if he feels ok. Stats against Jerry Sloan's squad:

• Jazz are in front 81-68 all-time; we are 53-22 at home, but 59-15 down at EnergySolutions Arena;
• The home team has won seven straight games and 12 of the past 13 in the series. Portland has taken six straight meetings over the Jazz at the Rose Garden, while Utah has taken the last three in Salt Lake City;
• Brandon averaged a series-high 26.5 points (54.9% FG) in four games vs. Utah last season. LaMarcus added 20.0 points (50.0% FG) in four contests, while Joel posted 5.5 points to go with a series-best 12.0 rebounds (3.8 offensive);
Deron Williams led all Jazz players with 21.7 points and 8.0 assists in three appearances vs. Portland last year, including a season-best 35 points (12-18 FG) in Portland on Jan. 31. Mehmet Okur netted 18.3 points (54.8% FG) and a team-best 7.3 boards in four games;
• Coincidences:both LaMarcus and Martell scored career-highs against Utah: LaMarcus scored a career-high 36 points (12-17 FG) in Utah’s win over the Trail Blazers on Dec. 31, 2007, and Martell posted a career-high 25 points (9-13 FG, 5-8 3-PT) at Utah on Dec. 11, 2007; Jazz guard Ronnie Brewer’s father, Ron Brewer, was selected by Portland with the seventh overall pick in the 1978 Draft and was named to the 1978-79 NBA All-Rookie team.

Why's that? :?

In fact you may be right. I'm not seeing many replies as before the blackout. :cry: Might restart this one but in 10-11 season, or go with Pacers,but I don't know what I'll do. It's just really quiet.

Also deleted the Spurs story, so...

If you quit because of lack of replies (which there really isn't... you should have seen this section a couple years ago), then you are doing this all for the wrong reasons. Keep this going damn it!

Nice win against Memphis. The real Blazers have struggled with them (Z-Bo's revenge), but you steamrolled them.

I dont think you should stop something just because you aren't getting replies, they longer you keep this alive the more replies you will get. You have to remember that some people don't always have time to post, they just check in quickly for a quick read when they can. Keep it going, im sure there are a lot of followers (Y)

Ok, I'll see what I'll do... if I start a new one later please understand my decision and follow it... I'm really not in the mood to do anything, I have flu right now, not feeling very well. (N)
