NUGGETS WIN SEASON OPENER IN MADISON SQUARE GARDEN

Denver 102
New York 89

Denver Nuggets took a winning start to the new season by beating New York Knicks in Madison Square Garden. The Nuggets played consistently through the game, extending their lead as each quarter passed and eventually building up a comfortable lead. Their scoring was led by Carmelo Anthony and Kenyon Martin, who played his first game since injuring himself in the playoff series against Memphis last spring.

"It felt good to be out there playing again", said Martin. "It was frustrating to see us go out of the playoffs, but we all just had to put that out of our minds and start concentrating on the new season. We've all done a lot of work in the pre-season and this is the result of it. It's going to be an exciting season."

Cheers. I WILL make the playoffs.

Just realized Anthony shot 100% from the field against NY! Mostly dunks and layups but damn!

It's always good to be 1-0 instead of 0-1, way to go. By the way, what is the overall of the rookies that you drafted?

Thu Aug 25, 2005 8:26 am

Great win....wow Anthony 11-11 great job...keep it up

Funky, Neckar has an overall rating of 55 and Grunfeld is at 48.

I hope I'll never have to play a game like this again. I mean... damn.. I have really tough settings, the Mavs are trying something that makes no sense. Not very realistic stuff. It's no fun playing games like this.

NUGGETS BEAT TERRIBLE MAVS, MARTIN TAKES 6'5 ROOKIE FORWARD TO SCHOOL

Dallas 86
Denver 92

Whatever the Dallas Mavericks are trying to do, it's not working out. Playing a 6'5 forward against last season's MVP candidate Kenyon Martin is not a smart thing to do. Rookie Eldridge Gallagher did little to add fuel to discussions about him being the next Charles Barkley, when Martin dropped 51 points on him and Keith Van Horn, who was equally unimpressive. It could have been a much bigger margin of victory for Denver, but Dallas' three-point shooting kept them in the game, as well as stand-in center Dirk Nowitzki's jump shots. The Mavericks' rotation is raising many eyebrows, because two centers, Erick Dampier and Shawn Bradley started on the bench.

"I don't want to say this, but this game was a joke", said Kenyon Martin. "Nobody wants to see a game like this. This was no contest. If they don't want to play their big men, fine. Then they're gonna get destroyed. I don't know what they're trying to do, it's none of my business, but me getting 51 points with no effort is no good for the game."

Starters:

Look at this. Eldridge Gallagher (no. 45) is a power forward. Yeah, right.

I figured that's the reason, Nowitzki is at 87, Van Horn is at 75, Dampier at 67 and Bradley and Gallagher at 50. What a joke this Gallagher guy was.

Played another game, recap below. I'll be making my settings tougher, again. If I get injuries I'll be in trouble but it's been too easy last two games.

SUPERIOR REBOUNDING HELPS NUGGETS TO BLOWOUT WIN OVER HORNETS

Denver 98
New Orleans 81

Denver Nuggets took an impressive win over New Orleans Hornets at the New Orleans Arena last night. The key factor was Nuggets' strong rebounding, which continued throughout the game. Denver had 37 rebounds against New Orleans' 23. It was a disappointing display by the Hornets, who had been strengthened in the summer with the arrival of shooting guard Bonzi Wells. They allowed easy drives to the basket for the Nuggets players, and Carmelo Anthony & co took advantage of the situation. Denver hardly had a jump shot to make during the entire game.

"It was a great rebounding performance by us", said Nuggets power forward Nene, who had 11 boards. "This is how strong we can be when everybody boxes out."

The Nuggets continue their games on the road against Houston, Cleveland and Washington.

Starters:
Denver (2-0 before game)
C M. Camby
F K. Martin

3-0 :applaud: Martin is actually looking like he's worth the max contract hehe...

That dunk that Martin did over the Dallas rookie was kind of funny.... What a tiny little bastard.

I've also noticed that in the last three games you've made a lot of shots...(All of your games you've shot over 50%). Maybe you should try shooting a mid-range jumper or two to make the stats a little more realistic. (Y)

nice rosters Air. this time you can go all the way. (Y)

Yep, I usually do shoot a high percentage. But there were times last season when I played just the way I do now and I shot less than .500. It's all down to defence. If my opponent has no interior D I will take it inside and destroy them. But I'll probably put a little more on-ball physical defence for the CPU because Martin's got a little better.

I've been thinking long and hard about trading Joe Johnson away. And why is that? He's averaging very few points and somehow it's dumb to have a player of his ability scoring 6-8 ppg.

Last season I wanted a long-range shooter who can play defence. I realized a player like this is always one of the big NBA stars.

I could score even more with a good catch-and-shoot player. Trouble is, there are NO players with an FG rating of over 85. I have players who can take it inside so I don't need my shooter to do that.

I figured Wally Szczerbiak could be a good long-range bomber, and at the same time I could get Trenton Hassell to bring in some defence.

It doesn't sound smart to trade away JJ, but in real life he would be pretty frustrated with his talents going to waste. Opinions?

Fri Aug 26, 2005 2:19 am

try getting wesley person if he still plays ball.

Fri Aug 26, 2005 2:31 am

I'm still here so a quick reply to YoG (welcome to my thread also):

I have Wesley Person, he's good coming off the bench but I don't believe he can defend enough to start.

Fri Aug 26, 2005 2:58 am

How bout Rasual Butler from Miami...he is a great 3PT shooter in Live(90 somethign i think) and he can play defense.
Nice win BTW

Fri Aug 26, 2005 4:07 am

Not a complete blowout but still a dominating win. Keep it up.

Fri Aug 26, 2005 4:22 am

Good luck against rockets...i don't think you should trade him....and if you will go for Wesley

I was sort of thinking the same thing. I think 85 can be too high. I can pretty much score consistently if I wanted to with a 70-75 shooter anyway. Try getting James Posey or Morris Peterson and maybe a few scrubs with potential.

Fri Aug 26, 2005 8:50 pm

Thanks for your suggestions everyone. Right now I'm not sure whether to go for an outside shooter, because I probably won't get many points with him anyway because there are other scorers in the team. Defence might be much more important.

Johnson is pretty much the perfect player, but I'm not really into keeping a great player who scores 3 points a game. I could go for a defensive stopper and a bench player who can shoot the three. It would be fun to have a new player anyway.

ROCKETS DISAPPEAR AFTER FIRST HALF, NUGGETS PICK UP WIN NUMBER FOUR

Denver 88
Houston 74

Denver Nuggets picked up their fourth win of the season at the Toyota Center in Houston last night. For much of the first half the game looked to be going the way it did when the teams met last season. The Rockets were giving all kinds of problems for the Nuggets team, hitting outside shots and forcing Kenyon Martin and Carmelo Anthony into tough shots. Houston had the lead at half time, but that all changed in the third quarter, when Denver went on a surge taking an eleven-point lead going into the final quarter. When Tracy McGrady scored his first points of the second half with only minutes to go in the game, it was too late. The Nuggets again made the most of their opponents' weak links, with Anthony scoring against rookie Zan Ouakili, and Kenyon Martin getting the best of Juwan Howard, Vin Baker and number one pick Mosi McGrady.

"We always seemed to find the best matchup, especially in the second half", said Anthony. "It was smart play by us and that's how we got the win."

Denver will face the Cavaliers in Cleveland next.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention I made minor changes. On-ball physical defence and free throw difficulty a bit harder. Seemed to make a difference in the first half at least...
