Bulls aspirations to hang a 7th championship banner in the rafters took a hit

Game 2109

What's the best way to stop an oncoming truck?
Shoot a hole in one of the tires.
Indiana shot a hole in the Bulls tires with a 109-107 victory at the United Center, taking home-court advantage in the process.
"We still couldn't stop them from scoring but they couldn't stop us either," said Player of the Game Jermaine O'Neal, who had a double-double with 16 points and 10 boards.
Fred Jones glides in for two
The Pacers led by 3 at the half, but the Bulls rallied from two different nine-point deficits to tie it at the half, 54-54.
"We scrapped and struggled but we couldn't do get a rhythm," said Colicky Boy, who rebounded from his playoff scoring funk with 29 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists.
The Bulls went up 8 in the third quarter and finished the third quarter up 87-80.
"We felt pretty good about our chances even though we weren't playing well," said LeBron James, who had 13 points and 8 assists.
Stoudemire throws down two of his game-high 31
But then the Pacers went on a run to take the lead. Indiana only led by one with 56.5 seconds when Jamaal Tinsley missed a jumper. But the Pacers' Jonathan Bender got the offensive rebound and put back to put Indiana up 107-104 and the Bulls could not overcome.
Ron Artest and Reggie Miller each pumped in 20 points, Tinsley had 18, and Fred Jones, who was scoreless in Game 1, added 11 points off the bench. The Bulls' Amare Stoudemire had game-highs in points (31) and rebounds (13) in the losing cause.
The teams now head to Indiana for the next two games with the series tied up 1-1.
"Our defense failed us," said Dwyane Wade, who had 18 points. "It wasn't a surprise they could score. We saw they put up a lot of points against the Pistons defense. Now it's back to the drawing board for us."

air wrote:Maybe you should trade him for some average player to make it more challenging, although that would not be a realistic trade... Or trade him to the Bobcats or something and see how good they get.

Game 3:118

INDIANAPOLIS - The Bulls lost only four of their 82 regular-season contests, so when they lost one in their sixth playoff game, nervousness in Chicago was understandable.
The Bulls eased some of that nervousness with a 118-103 win over Indiana at Conseco Fieldhouse.
The Bulls regained their offensive prowess, as all starters scored at least 19 points each.
"We had a great game offensively," said Bulls guard Dwyane Wade, who had 24 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. "And we needed it to get back our home-court advantage."
The Bulls led by 17 after one and retained that margin by halftime. The Pacers cut the Bulls lead to ten after the third quarter, but the Bulls sustained their advantage to the end.
Amare Stoudemire had a team-high 23 points and 7 rebounds while Dirk Nowitzki added 21 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists.
"Reggie [Miller] got his," said Colicky Boy, who was two assists short of a triple-double with 21 points, a game-high 12 rebounds, 8 assists and 5 steals. "But the key was containing Jamaal Tinsley and we did that tonight."
Tinsley had 11 points and 5 assists for the Pacers. Miller led all scorers with 37 points and Ron Artest added 23 points.
"Our defense has to do a better job," said Indiana center Jermaine O'Neal, who nearly had a triple-double with 10 points, 8 rebounds and a game-high 9 blocks.
"We're not backing down," said a defiant Tinsley. "We're not afraid of them."

Game 4:118

---------------------
INDIANAPOLIS - So much for momentum.
The Bulls had a 2-1 series lead before today's game. They had a 15-point first-quarter lead, a 12-point halftime lead, and a 5-point third quarter lead. Even after falling behind in the final seconds, the Bulls amazingly tied the game to force overtime.
Yet all the mo' went for naught as the Bulls flopped big-time in overtime, getting outscored 26-14 in that extra period to lose 130-118 at Conseco Fieldhouse. The series is now tied 2-2.
"The wheels fell off," said Bulls guard Dwyane Wade, who was two rebounds shy of a triple-double (21 points, 8 rebounds, a game-high 10 assists). "They got hot in the second half and we couldn't figure out how to stop them."
The Bulls led 92-91 with under two minutes left before a series of big shots by both teams. Jamaal Tinsley made a layup to give Indiana the lead at 93-92 with 1:45 left. Amare Stoudemire, who finished with 25 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists, made a layup to put the Bulls up 94-93 with 1:34 left. Reggie Miller nailed a pullup jumper with 1:27 left to regain the lead for the Pacers at 95-94. Colicky Boy hit a layup to give the Bulls the lead back, 96-95 with 1:15 left. Then the Pacers called time.
Jermaine O'Neal hit a layup to give Indiana the lead again at 97-96 with 1:10 to go. Ron Artest then stole a pass by Wade and dished to Tinsley for a fast break score to give the Pacers a three-point lead, 99-96, with 1:02 left.
The Bulls didn't panic. Colicky Boy hit a layup to cut the Pacers lead to 99-98 with 52.9 seconds left. Jamaal Tinsley hit a jumper and was fouled for a potential three-point play but missed the free throw to put Indiana up 101-98 with 48.4 seconds to go.
Again, the Bulls didn't panic. Stoudemire made a layup to cut the lead to 101-100 with 42.3 seconds remaining. But the Pacers just kept scoring. Jamaal Tinsley drained another jumper to put the Pacers up 103-100 with 30.7 seconds left. Stoudemire answered with a layup of his own to cut the Pacer lead to 103-102, but only 10.4 seconds remained.
By the time the Bulls were able to intentionally foul the Pacer with the ball, only 3.1 seconds remained. Tinsley made 1 of the 2 free throws, putting the Pacers up 104-102. The Bulls called time and called for a play inside to Colicky Boy. It worked, as Colicky Boy was fouled with only 0.6 seconds left while driving to the hoop by Jonathan Bender. Colicky Boy made both free throws to tie the game and force overtime.
The game may not have had to go to OT if not for an Artest half-court shot that beat the third-quarter horn and cut the Bulls lead from 10 to 7 heading into the fourth.
"That was huge," said LeBron James, who had 20 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. "That gave them some momentum and a lot of confidence going into that last period."
Stoudemire scores despite the contact
In the overtime, the Pacers steamrolled the Bulls. Miller and Tinsley both finished with a game-high 36 points. Artest added 18 points and 8 assists, while O'Neal had 14 points, 6 rebounds and a career-high 8 steals.
Colicky Boy led the Bulls with 33 points, a game-high 12 rebounds, 6 assists and 7 steals in the losing cause. Dirk Nowitzki was held to 13 points and 5 boards.
"Sucks to finish the way we did after such an emotional fourth-quarter," said Stoudemire. "We'll just have to forget this one and play better next game."
"This is a war," said O'Neal. "Nobody gets anything easy. If they thought they were going to waltz in here with their regular-season record and expect us to roll over, they can kiss my buttocks."
