Very interesting article you got there. So are you going start McKie or Parker at the point?

Some fine articles on Odom and the rookies. Man, after reading about Von Wafer I hope he turns out to be a good pick. (Y)

Thanks mate. I hope Andrew releases it soon!

nbalive744 wrote:Great artice, good luck to Lamar Odom, and good luck to you with this dynasty, I can't wait for the Roster Patch so you and everyone else that is waiting can get their dynasty going.

Thanks a lot... won't let you down mate! Even if we did bad in preseason!

Heiks wrote:Nice articles, good see you're back at it! I hope you can start the real thing soon.

It's great to be back mate. The real thing should start tonight or tommorow!

Sensation wrote:Good to see this back after the long pause. Good reads on Odom and the rookies. Can't wait to see some games!

Man, I'm waiting for you to update your dynasty. Hope it's going good...

nice rookie coverage

Changed the article to reflect the true spelling!

Damn straight... I wonder when that thing will start though.

New Dangers rules.. i mean pwns! (Y)

Mark wrote:Good rookie update, those updates werent far apart. I had never even heard of Devin Green

Yeah.. Corie Blount got cut, Green should stay in LA.

X wrote:nice updates, although I wouldn't call Lamar Odom's numbers last year as his 2nd best season....he was way down....

He had career highs in boards and shooting percentage and also a low in turnovers... given his role I would say its his second best season in his career after a year with the Heat.. but its open to everyone's opinion.

Kemp wrote:Very interesting article you got there. So are you going start McKie or Parker at the point?

One of them or a mystery player!
Some fine articles on Odom and the rookies. Man, after reading about Von Wafer I hope he turns out to be a good pick.
He probably won't.. I don't like or have much faith in him

Why thank you! :) Why not call me Hitch or Mike Lowrey or Will 2 K... u can see who my idol is! not really my idol though...

hey hey hey buddy, finally this dynasty is rolling.... great articles you've got there... hope Odom really shines in our dynasties and in real life as well...... i remember your dynasty features Kwame Brown in it and what a coincidence, he's really with them now...... i wonder, who's the next player you're going to add and maybe that player will be with them next season again.... good luck, i'll be watching....

Problems at the Point Position
Words: Max Power

The Lakers are set to make a run at the playoffs this year and the one big problem for the team is their gap at the point guard. In this article from the Lakers Lowdown, we will be looking at the many options of guards that LA can look to during this next year.

Image
Name: Aaron McKie
Height: 6’5”
Weight: 209

How to get him: The Lakers acquired McKie for the mid level exception during the Summer and the former Temple guard hasn’t disappointed as he has learnt his role slowly by putting up averages of 6.3 ppg, 3.2 spg and 2.2 spg during preseason action.

Summary: McKie is an able scorer and defender. His size fits right into Phil Jackson’s odea of the perfect mould of a point guard suitable for the triangle offence. McKie experienced his best year as a Sixer in 00-01 averaged 12 ppg, 4 rpg, 5 apg 1.4 spg in 32 mpg. McKie’s experience will be the X-factor for the vet in his quest for a starting spot. McKie’s age and his ability to run an offence is what will hold him back behind the other Laker hopefuls but as of the end of preseason, he is a front runner to start at the 1.

Image
Name: Sasha Vujacic
Height: 6’7”
Weight: 195

How to get him: The Lakers drafted the Italian prospect in the 2004 NBA Draft in the first round with the 27th pick. He has played sparingly for LA ever since but his time may have come with the team’s rebuilding phase.

Summary: Vujacic is a very interesting player as he is a natural leader while he is ambidextrous in both passing and dribbling. Vujacic’s inability to make the outside shot consistently and his lack of physical strength are holding him back from starting for Jackson’s Lakers. However, the potential is there for Vujacic to start one day as he is a playmaker rather than a scorer and can play very well on the defensive end. Once he improves his range and gets a bit more experience, he may be a major factor in LA’s future.

Image
Name: Smush Parker
Height: 6’4”
Weight: 180

How to get him: The Lakers signed Parker to a non-guaranteed contract before the Summer League and Smush was brilliant in Summer League action but after sustaining a leg injury, he has had to sit out the Lakers’ preseason campaign.

Summary: Parker is an interesting option for LA to opt for because he is a very capable ball handler and passer while he also has a very accurate outside shot. Parker will be a great asset even if it means coming off of the pine and chipping in open buckets in wide open spaces created by Kobe and Lamar. He is still young and lacks experience. Although he’s played for many teams including a brief stint in Europe, Parker’s ability to run a team’s offence is still a question mark. Parker will be a gamble as a starter and is most probably more suitable to play off the bench much like how John Paxson and Steve Kerr played for Chicago in their hey day.

Image
Name: Tyronn Lue
Height: 6’0”
Weight: 178

How to get him: Lue plays for the Atlanta Hawks who are in desperate need of a big man after the unexpected death of Jason Collier. The reason why the Lakers can trade a big man to the Hawks for Lue is because the Hawks still have Joe Johnson and Salim Stoudamire to run the point for ATL.

Summary: The advantages of having Lue on the Lakers is because of the fact that he has worked with Phil before. Lue first got into the media spotlight after playing well against Sixers’ star Allen Iverson during the NBA Finals in 2001. Tyronn can score with the rock and he is one of the fastest players in the league today. Lue isn’t a starter though and if he were to be picked up by his former club, he would play a sixth man role because he is more of an energy player. His game is at its best when he is in the open court.

Image
Name: Derek Fisher
Height: 6’1”
Weight: 205

How to get him: The Golden State Warriors already have Baron Davis, Aaron Miles and Monta Ellis to play at point guard and this makes Fisher expendable. Fisher’s old age is also an excuse for him not fitting in the Warrior’s young team and his love for LA is also a bonus. For the right deal, Golden State may trade Fish back home.

Summary: Fisher was the only friend of Kobe Bryant’s during the Lakers’ championship years, which proves he is a true team player. Fisher may not be a star but his skills and personality would be an asset to LA. He is a threat from outside and is able to hit the big shots. Fisher’s weakness is that he’s not an explosive player and on defence, will struggle against quicker guards. However, the fact that he knows the triangle offence should help him overcome his physical weaknesses. Fisher may not fit the build and skill set that Jax looks for in his starting point guards but he may be able to start because of his experience within the team system.

Image
Name: Leandro Barbosa
Height: 6’3”
Weight: 188

How to get him: Barbosa who won a gold medal at the Tournament of the Americas has seen his playing time in Phoenix reduced over the past season. Steve Nash’s arrival was the cause of this along with Barbosa’s inability to be a part of the Suns’ success last year. The Lakers can offer one of their swingmen for the guard.

Summary: He needs to get stronger and learn how to be a better playmaker. He has a ‘drive to the hoop’ mentality and is very aggressive and quick but his decision making is still very doubtful. Barbosa may not be the type of guard Phil Jackson will want but if the Lakers can get their hands on this player, he could turn into a valuable commodity in the future, as a player or as trade bait.

Image
Name: Juan Dixon
Height: 6’3”
Weight: 164

How to get him: Portland is loaded with point guards with Sebastian Telfair, Steve Blake and rookie Jarret Jack. The Blazers need a backup big man rather than an overabundance of point guards and the Lakers can and probably will make an offer to them.

Summary: Dixon is a SG trapped in a PG’s body and if LA were to acquire him, it would be solely to fill in the void of shooter and sixth man. He is small, weak and lacks skill in the playmaking department and what makes it worse is that Juan doesn’t have the freak athleticism that Iverson and Steve Francis share to overcome their size deficiencies. However, Juan is quick, understands the game and has a great stroke. This was evident in Washington’s playoff series against Chicago and that experience also proved that Juan is also a very fierce competitor. Juan would be a great shooter from off the bench and the Lakers should look into him more closely.

Image
Name: Marcus Banks
Height: 6’1”
Weight: 200

How to get him: This kid nearly arrived in Hollywood last season with Chris Mihm and a move to Cali isn’t out of the question with Boston’s PG rotation overstocked. The Lakers can offer Boston a big man but this may hurt the Lakers’ depth if they need to part with either Medvedenko or Mihm.

Summary: Banks is still learning to be able to lead a team’s offence and tempo. His passion for the game may lead him to become frustrated when his shot doesn’t fall and his height is always a problem. He makes up for all of this as he is strong and sturdy. Banks is an efficient scorer because he can penetrate the lane with ease. His rebounding skills are unique for his size. But his lack of skill in being a true point guard hurts his chances of ever starting for a Phil-led Lakers’ team.

Image
Name: Jannero Pargo
Height: 6’1”
Weight: 170

How to get him: Playing in a rotation that consists of Kirk Hinrich, Ben Gordon and Chris Duhon, it is fairly obvious that Pargo belongs in a class that is lower than the trio. Therefore, he is expendable. The Bulls need a swingman to add depth on the wing and they could find someone to fill that job by the name of Laron Profit.

Summary: Another player who has played under Jackson but is an incapable playmaker. He is an active defender and can shoot the ball well and these are traits that Jackson wants in his backups. Pargo is a quick player and the possibility that he may be reunited with the Lakers remains high. Pargo can score in bursts and he is most effective from off of the bench.

Image
Name: Steven Markovic
Height: 6’3”
Weight: 196

How to get him: The Australian player ditched his NBL club in Australia to move over to Europe a few months ago. His time may have come for him to be called up to the NBA as fellow countryman, GM Sit sees potential in the youngster who has played with NBA rookie Andrew Bogut and future prospect Brad Newly at the World Junior championships.

Summary: The Aussie PG is an able scorer as he has shown during his season in the Australian league called the NBL. He can shoot the ball from all over the floor and is a very quick player. Details about him are very slim and he hasn’t had many chances to prove himself as an NBA-ready player. Perhaps, time will tell.

Tue Nov 01, 2005 11:48 pm

i love that overview of the point guards, pargo would be great as a back up, to bad for gordon, hinrich and duhon

Tue Nov 01, 2005 11:58 pm

Nice talk about the point guards. I hope Parker develops into the point guard you're looking for. If not, Barbosa, Banks and Pargo are also on the top of my list.

Wed Nov 02, 2005 12:29 am

Pargo is the answer. :)

Wed Nov 02, 2005 1:28 am

That is amazing, I love those articles, I think you should get Leandro Barbosa.

Wed Nov 02, 2005 1:46 am

Nice! I'd like to see Fisher back in Purple & Gold! (Y)

Wed Nov 02, 2005 3:50 am

Lovely stuff! I'd get either Fisher or Dixon.

Wed Nov 02, 2005 6:40 am

I like Barbosa! (Y)

Btw, since you asked. Franchise is updated.

Wed Nov 02, 2005 7:29 am

GO FOR LEANDRINHO (Y)

Wed Nov 02, 2005 7:48 am

Nice article man, I think you should go with one of the bigger guards for your starter and get Markovic as you back up (Y)

BTW has someone made a patch for him??

Wed Nov 02, 2005 8:09 am

If you want to make it realestic, stick with Parker. A realestic trade is getting Banks cause Celtics have alot pf PGs.

Wed Nov 02, 2005 10:12 am

Banks

Wed Nov 02, 2005 11:31 am

I think you should get Fisher, he knows how to play Phil's system, the triangle offence. He can help the Lakers to win more games with his clutch 3s. (Y)

Wed Nov 02, 2005 11:37 am

fisher would be a good trade for the obvious reasons.

Wed Nov 02, 2005 12:29 pm

you've already got McKie, Vujacic and Parker who are all combo guards....I'd like to see a more pure PG in there....which means no Barbosa, no Banks and no Dixon....

stick with who you have and ride it out to the lottery

Wed Nov 02, 2005 6:33 pm

Well fellas... can you please keep the opinions rolling in as so far I have these players leading:

1. Barbosa and Fisher = 3 votes
2. Parker = 2 votes
3. Dixon, Pargo, Markovic, Banks = 1 vote

DYnatsy will start as soon as Andrew releases that roster! (Y)

Wed Nov 02, 2005 6:39 pm
