Bench mob shines as Thunder cruise to win on their opener
By CHRIS SILVA | THUNDER.NBA.COM
Date: 10/27/10 Time: 8:52 p.m.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP)—You couldn't ask much more from the Thunder's third season opener. The crowd was full, the Thunder were rolling, and the game was an easy victory over a Eastern playoff team.

James Harden scored 21 points, Kevin Durant added also 21 of his own and the Oklahoma City Thunder beat the new-look Chicago Bulls 104-91 in the season opener for both teams. Another bench player that help the Thunder was Serge Ibaka who chipped in 20 points, grabbed five rebounds, and dished four assists.

The Thunder started to build a big lead in the second quarter where they outscored the Bulls, 31-16. Somehow Derrick Rose came fighting throughout the game where he finished game-high 30 points and also had eight assists. Free agent acquisition Carlos Boozer did a poor debut by scoring only five points, grabbing seven rebounds and committed four turnovers. Bulls seemed to be like recharged in the third because of Joakim Noah who tallied all of his nine points, he also ended up the game by having ten rebounds and five steals. Forward Luol Deng had 22 points but shot a poorly 8-24 that night.

Bull's bench had no match for the Thunders' they are outperformed 62-14. Thunder also won the rebounding battle by a small margin, 35-32. Next game they will now fly to Detroit to face the Pistons.

Thunder grabbed an easy win over the Clippers
Image98 @ Image90
By CHRIS SILVA | THUNDER.NBA.COM
Date: 11/03/10 Time: 11:45 p.m.

LOS ANGELES—The blazing Thunder continue their good start, and grabbing another road win over the Los Angeles Clippers, 98-90.

Kevin Durant scored 27, Russell Westbrook added 22 and six assists, Jeff Green had a double-double 13 and 10 to beat the lowly Clippers.

The game was not a blowout though, the only problem is Eric Gordon's suckitude or maybe the whole team? Gordon successfully made his eight attempts out of 30, including 3-17 from trey. "He f*cking annoying, he's just throwing shots all over." an angry fan said. The two rookies somehow carry the load, Blake Griffin had 13 points and 10 rebounds while Al-Farouq Aminu tallied 14 points on a perfect shooting night. Baron Davis and Chris Kaman had a quiet night, they scored 13 and eight respectively.

Thunder had blocked Clippers shot 17 times with the help of Nenad Krstic with his season-high six blocks. The Clippers ended the game with a very astounding 37/100 FG. Keep it up Clips, your on your way to the postseason.

Next game, Thunder will be at home and face the Blazers and may look to extend their streak.

Career night by Durant ensured the win in OT
Image132 @ Image120
By CHRIS SILVA | THUNDER.NBA.COM
Date: 11/12/10 Time: 12:18 p.m.

OKLAHOMA CITY—Two rival teams battled out last night, and it's the Thunder who came out survive.

Kevin Durant topped his career-high 47 points last year and scored 56 points and led the Thunder to their sixth fifth consecutive win of the season, 132-120 in OT. Durant also grabbed 12 rebounds and three steals.

In his 22nd birthday, Russell Westbrook also recorded a career high performance by dishing 15 assists and scored 25 points. Nenad Krstic continue to impress with his 14 points and eight rebounds, Jeff Green had 11.

The Thunder once had a lead of 20 points by outscoring the Blazers in the second but somehow, Blazers rallied the big deficit and actually got a three point lead with half of a minute remaining, but there goes the hero, Durant last minute three-pointer tied the score and the game went to an extra period. Brandon Roy lead his team with his 26 points, eight rebounds and six assists, all of the starters had a good game though by scoring double figures.

The Thunder never let go the chance and easily outpaced the Blazers in the OT by scoring 16 compared to Blazer's 4. Thunder also won the rebounding battle, 50-44.

Durant for MVP? Two weeks still undefeated, Thunder may look to contain this kind of level they are playing when they will face next the heavyweight Boston Celtics.

Big Z, will retire at the end of the season

Image
Miami Heat's center Zydrunas Ilgauskas announced in the press that he will retire from playing basketball effective at the end of the season.

"I think I'm finished here, my body can't cope up with those other guys out there." said Ilgauskas. "I'm thanking all of the teams I've had been, it was definitely a career for me."

Big Z was signed by the Heat last summer, he averaged 7.4 points and 5.4 rebounds last season with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Magic swap Lewis for Wizards' Arenas

Image Image
The Magic capped a blockbuster trade that will send Rashard Lewis and his remaining $66.5 million (three years) contract to the Washington Wizards, they would then receive washed up point guard Gilbert Arenas.

The last year Eastern Conference finalist are now seriously campaigning for their title chase, and now they made a move as early as the season starts. After two weeks the Magic are holding a 8-3 record while the Wizards are at the bottom on their division 3-6.

Lewis played average last season and made 14.1 points, 4.4 rebounds on a .435% shooting. While Arenas had a disappointing season last year, he just played 32 games because of a suspension wherein he was caught having a gun on his locker room. He averaged 22.6 points and 7.2 assists.

Arenas will be wearing the no. 1 jersey, once worn by Penny Hardaway while Lewis will retain his number in Washington.

Orlando still not done by their magic tricks, acquired Turkoglu and Richardson

Image Image Image Image

Goodbye, Vince. Hello again, Hedo. After trading Lewis, General Manager Otis Smith is still not done by his tricks, he have dispatched Vince Carter and re-acquired fan favorite Hedo Turkogluin a six-player trade with the Phoenix Suns.

Magic will also receive Jason Richardson and Earl Clark in exchange for Marcin Gortat, Mickael Pietrus, a 2011 first-round draft pick and cash considerations.

Suns did not hesitate to accept the offer because they've been underperforming early in the season and just winning 4 of their 10 games. Plus, the Suns will also receive Carter's expiring contract that which will provide the thrifty Suns with financial flexibility, Pietrus is a useful swing; and Gortat offers muscle down-low. While this move for the Magic will boldly strengthen their core.

By CHRIS SILVA | THUNDER.NBA.COM

Durant vault Thunder past Spurs
Image111 @ Image124

OKLAHOMA CITY—Another big team from the West came to top the Thunder and failed.

Kevin Durant once again led the team with his 41 points and 14 boards to cling on a 124-11 win over the San Antonio Spurs.

The game went into an OT because of Tony Parker's late three to tie the game, Parker struggled whole game though, who shot 6-23 in the field to score 22 points. Tim Duncan had a great game, 28 points including 14 rebounds. But the Spurs never knew what are coming in OT, the Thunder went berserk to score 32 points in the last five minutes of action and stopped Spurs to only 19 points. Durant's 20 points came from the extra period.

"They are unstoppable," Manu Ginobili said. "They played the OT like a twelve minutes quarter and run past us." Ginobili had 19 points and eight rebounds.

Big game from Millsap fueled Jazz over Thunder
Image97 @ Image106

SALT LAKE CITY—Carlos who? Emerging forward Paul Millsap scored 20 points, grabbed 16 boards and carry the Jazz to beat the visiting Thunder, 106-97.

“I have to say this is as good as I have ever seen him play,” Jazz coach Jerry Sloan said of Millsap. “He’s been sensational, really. He just took the game over and put it in his hands.”

C.J. Miles added 19 points off the bench for the Jazz, who snapped a 3 game skid. Deron Williams had 17 points and 10 assists. Thunder can't find a right shot in the whole fourth quarter and turned the possession eight times, Jazz abused it and put Thunder behind.

Kevin Durant despite injuring his finger scored a game-high 39 points, Russell Westbrook added 19 points for the Thunder who will be back on home to face the Rockets.

Thunder come back to beat Rockets
Image98 @ Image105

OKLAHOMA CITY—Coach Scott Brooks told the Oklahoma City Thunder to play together on both defense and offense.

And the plan worked well and his team came back to surprise the opponent.

Kevin Durant scored 12 of his 35 points in the last two minutes of the quarter, when the Rockets is still leading by eight, Durant's two consecutive three point dagger lessen the Rocket's lead only by two, by then Russell Westbrook stole the ball from the inbound and put a easy dunk to tie the game, Westbrook had 23 points, eight assists, five rebounds and 3 steals, Thunder then pulled away on the last minute and win, 105-85.

Aaron Brooks scored 21 and dished 10 assists for the Rockets, Luis Scola and Kevin Martin respectively scored 19 and 16. Yao Ming is looking healthy early in the season and hoping to continue his health, he had himself a double-double, 10 points and 13 rebounds.
