As do I, however, I'm not sure if it is necessary realistic. Nonetheless, I'm quite keen to execute it, I just wanted some other opinions.

For me it's certainly a good trade. My PG spot will be solid for at least the next 5 years, assuring I could keep them together, and Marvin Williams would probably be stronger of the bench. Furthermore, Maurice Evans is struggling so it makes sense to take him out of the rotation.

Lamrock is right. Try to get in one or two resized smaller pics.

Yeah I am going to work on the presentation - thanks a lot to you and Lamrock because I thought that may have been a problem. I’ll certainly fix that one next update.

Lamrock wrote:Carl Landry is one of my favorite players, and Lowry is also underrated. However, the trade makes no sense for the Rockets, giving up their best young player, and relegating Aaron Brooks to the bench. I've also been a fan of Mike Bibby since 2002.

As for the association itself, its a considerable improvement over your Live 07 dynasty, but the previews are simply a waste of time. Furthermore, its fine that you don't have pics, but you should get shorter ones so it doesn't break up the recap as much. Good writing and lots of effort though. (Y)

Alike you, I love Carl Landry and believe Lowry has got some game. I felt as though I was ripping off the rockets, even though it was them who offered the trade. I am still keen to do it, so over the next few days I'll consider it.

I think I will eliminate previews or I'll never get through a year/playoffs/offseason.

Thankyou to everyone, for the support, advice and extremely constructive criticism. Highly appreciated. Next update in not too long. (Y)

I'd recommend you try to get better acclimated with the team first, and make sure you absolutely need to make the trade. I've found it easy to get bored fast if you make too many moves. (See: Gilbert's Arena, Flying High In The ATL, Nellieball...)

I think unfortunately, I'm going to skip on the trade. It’s just not necessary. Unless I get on a losing streak, and need to make a move I'll be staying true. I have lost one game (record of 4-1) except a trade is just unnecessary at the present time.

Game 2: Hawks [1-0] vs Wizards [First in division - 1-0] @ Phillips Arena

Recap:
Friday, October 30, 2009. After a successful Game 1 against the Indiana Pacers, the Atlanta Hawks were keen to continue their winning streak. This would in turn give them the necessary momentum for their upcoming road trip. The Gilbert Arenas led Wizards were sure to pose a threat and the Hawks needed an almost flawless start in they wanted to stop the Wizards mean offensive game.

Image
|Jeff Teague played a strong game off the bench which included a missed three point-play which followed this drive |

1st Quarter: The first quarter began much like the 4th quarter against the Pacers finished. The Hawks looked to be aggressive, get to the line and score quickly. Unfortunately, Brendan Haywood and Antawn Jamison were dominating on the glass (4 offensive rebounds in 6 possessions). Gilbert Arenas seemed back to his best, scoring 14 points in the first six minutes (to go along with 2 rebounds and 3 assists). Woodson looked to his bench for a spark and Jeff Teague took it on his back to inspire the Hawks. A deep 3-point shot was followed by an ‘and-one’ at the basket. Despite some stellar bench play, turnovers hampered the Hawks progress and the Wizards went into quarter time leading 32-25.

2nd Quarter: Foul trouble was killing the Hawks. Josh Smith was forced to hit the pine and became a non-factor. Limited game-time to he and Joe Johnson was killing the hawks and a series of lacklustre defensive stands meant the Wizards had obtained a 40-31 lead, just 3 minutes into the quarter. The Hawks were unable to stop an unrelenting Gilbert Arena who had racked up 20 points after only 18minutes of play. In the last six minutes, the offensive juggernaut that was the Wizards was held to just seven points. Despite the increased defensive pressure, without Josh Smith and Joe Johnson (both benched with three fouls), the Hawks found it hard to establish their rhythm. Leading into the break a dichotomy was created between defensive and offense, and despite the efforts of a spirited Hawks bench, the Wizards had opened up a 61-51 lead.

Player of the Half: Gilbert Arenas was an offensive machine in the first half. On track for another 50-point game Gilbert Arenas has 26 points, three assists and three rebounds.

3rd Quarter: The Hawks began the quarter with an excellent defensive stand which led to a fast-break bucket by Jamal Crawford. The Wizards were limited by the Hawks, scoring only four points in the ensuing three minutes. Suddenly the game took a turn, Joe Johnson and Josh Smith were the catalyst for a 15-0 run. Minutes later the Hawks had wrenched the lead. Al Horford was having a standout performance and despite the high scoring affair had attained 14 rebounds at the 3rd quarter interval. In a high scoring affair, in which Gilbert Arenas had 30 points, the Hawks had snatched the lead 88-79.

4th Quarter: The 4th quarter sure was a defensive lull, a lack of scoring and inability to finish on the offensive end meant that the game finish slowly. This was exemplified by an excellent Josh Smith block, which unfortunately led to his fifth foul. Not a shot could be made from beyond the arc and both team failed to score for 2:33. Josh Smith was fouled out with one minute remaining however, it was all too little to late. A scoreless quarter from Gilbert Arenas led to a career high Al Horford 22 rebounds. The Atlanta Hawks running out 107-102 winners.

Quarter by quarter
Hawks | 25 | 26 | 37 | 19
Wizards| 32 | 29 | 18 |23

Image

|Jamal Crawford was strong off the bench finishing with 17 points in 18 minutes |

Player of the Game: Josh Smith, despite foul trouble, had arguably the best game of his career. The defense played by Jamison, Blatche and Butler on Smith was far from adequate. Smith compiled a massive 33 points, 6 assists, 11 rebounds, 4 steals & 4 blocks (40 minutes).

Noteworthy Performances:
Hawks | Al Horford: 12 points, 22 rebounds, 1 steal and 2 blocks (37 minutes) | Joe Johnson: 26 points, 2 rebounds, 4 assists & 1 steal (36 minutes) | Jamal Crawford: 17 points & 1 assists (18 minutes).

Wizards | Gilbert Arenas: 30 points, 3 rebounds, 10 assists & 1 steal (37 minutes) | Antawn Jamison: 15 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals & 2 blocks (36 minutes) | Caron Butler: 16 points, 4 rebounds & 4 assists (38 minutes).

Not so Noteworthy Performances:
Hawks| Mike Bibby: 4 points (2-9 from the field, 0-3 from beyond the arc), 1 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 block & 1 turnover (39 minutes).

Wizards | Andray Blatche: 7 points (2-7 from the field), 5 rebounds, 1 steal, 2 blocks, 1 turnover, 5 fouls & +/- of -9 (22 minutes).

Game Moment: Joe Johnson found Josh Smith for the monster jam to end the third quarter, and finish off a remarkable 15-0 run

Next Game: The Hawks begin a gruelling road journey which starts against the Los Angeles Lakers @ the Staples Center, whilst the Wizards play the New Jersey nets @ Verizon Center aka "The Phone Booth"

A nasty 3rd quarter and man, how good have Smith and Horford been. Good luck vs the Lakers. I'm also eager to see what T-Mac does in your D. I also want him to be traded but it does not look like so far in my dynasty.

Game 3 - Hawks [2-0] vs Lakers [leading division – 2-0] @ Staples Center
Despite Last Second Loss, Woodson far from pleased

Recap:
Sunday, November 1, 2009. After a relatively easy start to the season, the 2-0 Hawks face their first challenge of 2009. A matchup against the reigning NBA champions – the Los Angeles Lakers. Led by Kobe Bryant the Lakers have been arguably the greatest team of the decade, piling on the championships. The Hawks will be keen to prove their worth, and must in order to earn adequate respect and fear from those around the league. The Los Angeles crowd and Kobe Bryant are sure to be a factor as both the Hawks and Lakers look to open the season 3-0. This game will be crucial for the Hawks who are keen to kick off a vital road-trip with a win against the NBA’s best team.

Image
|Mike Bibby looked to rebound after trade rumours and a lacklustre start to the season |

1st Quarter: Los Angeles was primed for competition from the word go. The Lakers front-court took it to the Hawks, with Bynum and Gasol drawing fouls and finishing with contact on the opening plays. Horford was out after just one minute with foul trouble and early signs were dark for the hawks. Zaza Pachulia was forced to step it up and some terrific defense was undone by superb offensive rebounding by the Lakers frontcourt. Woodson, after several timeouts, went to a front court which consisted of Josh Smith, Zaza Pachulia and Jason Collins in order to nullify the effect of the Lakers. The move was to no avail as Pau added another tough to, taking his points tally to 13 points on 6-7 shooting. Moments later Woodson decided to shake things up bringing on Teague and Crawford, the new acquisitions, to deal with the potent combination of Kobe Bryant and Derek Fisher. Crawford added a three on his first play but unfortunately for the Hawks, Zaza Pachulia picked up his second foul with 1:12 to play. On the ensuing possession, Bynum drew the double team and kicked it out to Artest. The sound of a swishing basket was one all too familiar for the first quarter. After two late hawks’ baskets, the teams entered the last in a deadlock – 31 a piece. The key to the quarter for the Lakers was their ability to score in the paint, but at the same time shooting only 3-8 from the charity stripe hurt the Lakers.

2nd Quarter: Early in the second quarter an overzealous Kobe Bryant picked up two quick fouls. Fortunately for the Hawks this allowed Crawford to get into his groove and soon enough he took command of the game. Horford continued to play cautiously and the Hawks took a 39-35 lead after 3:21minutes play. Joe Smith was finally getting used to the Hawks outfit and scored on consecutive plays. After a Laker miss the hawks ran the break only to be denied by a revitalised Lamar Odom. The ball fell lose to Smith who drew a double-team, unfortunately for the lakers they underestimated Crawfords range, Smith kicked the ball out as Jamal Crawford dropped a 30ft three-pointer. Later in the quarter, more specifically at the 6minute mark, Al Horford picked up his third foul. Andrew Bynum led a 6-0 run, where the Lakers got ahead 47-41 with 2:44 to play. Shortly after Shannon Brown hit consecutive three’s (both on the fast break) and the Lakers had a commanding 53-41 lead. Behind Joe Johnson’s stellar drive, the Hawks were able to amass 6 straight points and hit halftime down 53-47. Josh Smith was dismal to say the least and the Lakers were in command of the post much to Mike Woodson’s dislike.

Player of the Half: Pau Gasol | 16 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists & 1 block

3rd Quarter: Lakers began to break away in the second half and created a 68-52 lead, which seemed almost unbeatable. The Hawks had no answers for neither Pau Gasol nor Andrew Bynum and the Lakers frontcourt was the factor to the lead. Josh Smith was struggling and Mike Bibby couldn’t hit a shot from anywhere beyond 10ft. A dominant quarter on the glass continued. The Hawks made short runs however, the Lakers were able to take a 84-71 into the final interval of the game. Bynum had to this stage already contributed 19 points & 9 rebounds and despite the Lakers dominance, Woodson remained optimistic. He demanded his players to fight, and so they complied…

4th Quarter: Al Horford began the quarter with a monster put back dunk, only a teaser to the Josh Smith dunk which followed. The Hawks then went score for score as the quarter progressed. It wasn’t until the seven minute mark, when Josh Smith hit a big turnaround jumper in the post, that the Hawks looked to be in the game. After a shocking pass from Derek Fisher, Jeff Teague finished strong at the other end and the Hawks were within four. A Luke Walton 3 gave the Lakers a 7 point lead, which looked like a lead that would win them the game. Trailing 96-89 the hawks gave it to Jamal Crawford who finished truly. With 58 second to play, Josh Smith pulled off the unthinkable, not only did he pull the Hawks within 3 points (trailing 102-99) but he also completed a through-the-legs, reverse dunk. The spectacular dunk was followed by a Phil Jackson time-out. The Lakers were unable to score leaving 33 seconds on the clock. Marvin Williams, in a career changing moment, drew all confidence and skill in his trick off bags and knocked down the fade away jumped on Lamar Odom. As time expired (5.4 seconds on the clock) Derek Fisher heaved up a prayer, the shot rimmed out and Woodson jumped out of his seat, unfortunately the jump was temporary. A monster offensive rebound by Pau Gasol forced the Hawks to foul him with 3.4seconds on the clock. The stadium was tense, the crowd was quiet, and after Gasol hit the first the stadium burst into utter uproar. Down bent Pau’s knees on the second, up he sprung, and down went the shot. After the Woodson timeout the Hawks tried to get the ball to Joe Johnson, unfortunately he was smothered and Bibby threw a cross-court pass to Jamal Crawford (the best option circumstances considered). Crawford faked, to no avail, and heaved up a half-contested shot---no luck – loss number one, of what will be more to come for the Atlanta Hawks, and despite a gallant effort, the Lakers were just too dam good on the day. The Lakers finished 104-101 winners at the Staples Center.

Quarter by quarter
Hawks |31|18|22|30
Lakers|31|22|31|20

|Despite a poor night Kobe Bryant (and his unselfish nature ) were pleased with a big win against the Hawks |

Player of the Game: Andrew Bynum |22 points (10-11 shooting from the field, 2-5 from the line), 14 rebounds, 4 assists & 6 blocks (37 minutes).

Noteworthy Performances:
Hawks | Josh Smith: 21 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists & 1 block (36 minutes) | Joe Johnson: 17 points, 2 rebounds, 4 assists & 1 block (35 minutes) | Jamal Crawford: 21 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists & 1 steal (18 minutes)

Lakers |Pau Gasol: 24 points, 13 rebounds, 3 assists & 1 block (37 minutes) |Shannon Brown: 12 points (2-2 from beyond the arc), 2 rebounds & 4 assists (12 mintues)|

Not so Noteworthy Performances:
Hawks| Mike Bibby (yet again): 8 points (2-10 shooting from the field, 1-4 from beyond the arc, 3-3 from the line), 8 assists & 2 steals.

Lakers | Ron Artest: 10 points (3-19 from the field), 2 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal & 2 turnovers (38 minutes) | Derek Fisher: 9 points (3-17 shooting from the field), 3 rebounds, 4 assists & 3 turnovers (38 minutes)

Game Moment: Excellent defense from Jordan Farmer on Jamal Crawford, as time expired, giving the Lakers a gallant 104-101 victory.

Next Game: The Hawks face Portland at the Rose Garden where they’ll hope to rebound after a disappointing loss, whilst the Lakers go to the Ford Center to face a rolling OKC Thunder.

You’re not wrong - 3rd Quarter has so far been the difference maker in most my games. Smith and Horford have been machines on the glass and next game against Portland they really stood up - well that’s kind of a lie, no-one really dominated for me, it was a low scoring affair and a team effort - interesting outcome too. Jamal Crawford has also had some stellar bench play. No news on T-Mac yet but I'll keep you updated - I really don't know where he's going to go and there's been no offers.

Thanks for the continued support; I'm looking to have my next update up tonight, that is unless the zzzz's hit me! I was thinking about it before and I have approximately 30 days of summer left, so I'll be looking to do three-games a day - 2K10 has quashed any hopes of living I had this summer! :)

Edit: Its 12am and I'm only half-way through, update will be up first thing tomorrow morning after Texans Game - fingers crossed

I guess it's a different thing to play the Lakers. Bynum and Gasol hurt you down low. LA is the team to beat next to the Cavs in this game just like in real life. So many options. So it's not too bad to loose by only 3 points.

Game 4 - Hawks [2-1] vs Blazers [leading division – 2-0] @ Rose Garden
Game 1 of Back-To-Back success for hungry Hawks

Recap:
Tuesday, November 3, 2009. The Hawks begin their tough road trip against the Portland Trailblazers at the Rose Garden. The Hawks will be looking to rebound after a tough last minute loss to the Lakers just two days ago. The game is sure to have many fireworks, with Josh Smith coming out on twitter and stating, “if they think we’re going into their home to muck around they need to get something straight, this team is for real – we will win this game.” Such a comment saw Smith fined $5,000 by the Hawks, who don’t want to form a reputation on arrogance and showboating.
Image
|Jamal Crawford came into the game averaging 19.3 points in just 18.3 minutes per game |

1st Quarter: The Hawks were slow out of the gates, allowing Portland to establish an 8-0 lead. Woodson, unlike most coaches would’ve in the situation, allowed his players to play through the adversity. The move worked wanders and despite poor defense the Hawks were able to establish a fluent offensive game. Instead of Pau, it was Oden who was a menace on the offensive glass. Josh Smith gave the Hawks energy with a sequence of powerful moves that evened the game up at 13 a piece. Johnson was forced to commit his second foul on a Roy drive and from here the blazers excelled. Miller and Roy were working in tandem in the backcourt, and Aldridge’s post game was unstoppable for the undersized Atlanta Front-court (Johnson – Smith – Smith). After a missed Bibby three, the blazers went on the break, Miller to Roy to Outlaw and then to a flying Greg Oden. Oden was met with heavy contact and fell to the ground in agony. The injury seemed to be a sprained ankle forcing Nate McMillan to introduce Joel Pryzbilla. The move worked a wander, and despite what looked a serious injury to Greg Oden (later returned to the floor), Joel Pryzbilla was the defensive spark the Blazers needed. After a 15-6 run Portland had established a dominant lead, 28-19, with just 3 minutes to play. The Hawks used the charity stripe to stay in the game and limited the blazers to just 1 point in the last three minutes. After shooting 12-free throws in the quarter the Hawks trailed by just 3, 29-26.

2nd Quarter: The second quarter began in spectacular fashion for the Hawks, a deep Joe Smith two was followed by an enormous Horford block. Several minutes into the quarter the Hawks had taken command, with Roy off and Joe Johnson exposing Blake in the post, Atlanta had broken away to lead 36-31. Portland struggled on offense and had only scored 32 points at the 6:37 minute mark of the quarter. Zaza Pachulia and Al Horford both recorded two blocks in the quarter and the Hawks were rolling. An injection of youth saw Jeff Teague knock down a contested three and then find Marvin Williams for another. The Hawks cruised into halftime ahead 56-40

Player of the Half: Brandon Roy – 13 points, 1 rebound, 2 assists & 1 steal
3rd Quarter: After a sluggish first half, the blazers, led by Brandon Roy, registered the first seven points on the period. Unfortunately, the stellar play was only short lived as Joe Johnson caught on fire from the field. The Hawks started heating up, and simultaneously (as would be expected) the lead grew. Behind their best defense of the year the Hawks moved out to a 64-47 lead. Smith was playing excellent defense, which included his second block and a committed take-charge in the lane. Joe Smith then replaced smith with five minutes to play in the quarter, and registered a monster putback to go with his 3 rebounds. Nonetheless, Bibby simply couldn’t score. He remained committed and despite just two points in the game he had registered 6 rebounds and 10 assists leading into three-quarter time. Oden (10 rebounds, 5 fouls & a swollen ankle) and Roy (24 points, 3 assists) were at their scintillating best, however, with little support the Blazers found themselves trailing by 20 – 75-55 – after three quarters.

4th Quarter: The Hawks were keen to continue their terrific defense after only allowing a combined 26 points in the second and third quarter. A Maurice Evans missed dunk was followed by a Steve Blake missed lay-up which typified the lacklustre game. Outlaw was horrendous from the field, however, continued to see a non-existent light at the end of the tunnel. It was all too little to late when the Blazers picked up their game. With a great dichotomy already in practice, the Hawks and Blazers emptied their bench. Zaza Pachulia showed off his defense and dished to Maurice Evans, who put the exclamation mark on a terrific victory. The Hawks ran out 95-74 winners, Mike Woodson pleased with a statement victory.

Quarter by quarter
Hawks |26|30|19|20
Blazers|29|11|15|19

Image

|Brandon Roy’s 30 point game was about the only offense the Blazers could manufacture |

Player of the Game: Joe Johnson | 19 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal & 1 block

Noteworthy Performances:
Hawks | Josh Smith: 16 points, 11 rebounds, 1 assist & 2 blocks (35 minutes) | Mike Bibby: 4 points, 7 rebounds, 11 assists & 2 steals (28 minutes).

Blazers |Brandon Roy: 30 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists & 1 steal (38 minutes) | LeMarcus Aldridge: 12 points, 12 rebounds, 1 assist & 2 steals.

Not so Noteworthy Performances:
Hawks| Marvin Williams: 8 points (2-8 shooting from the field, 1-2 from beyond the arc), 3 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal & 1 turnover.

Blazers | Travis ‘Take me off I’m cold’ Outlaw: 11 points (5-22 shooting from the field, 0-5 from beyond the arc), 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 block & 3 turnovers (34 minutes).

Game Moment: Despite a quite game Al Horford did have a monster throwdown in the lane. The dunk opened up an 11 point lead which would never be challenged.

Next Game: The Hawks go on to play the Hawks @ Arco Arena, whereas after losing their first game of the year Portland will look to rebound against San Antonio @ Rose Garden

Thanks man. Yeah, My d really got me through. Then the offense just followed suit, Jeff Teague also stepped it up and I figured out Joe Johnson has got a nice game with his back to the basket.

Update: I have completed an around the league section, which I will post after Game 8 - My next game at Kings I played and the update is more thorough, however, the ensuing three games have all been simmed. There's some trade news, serious injury news and game news to come. I'm hoping to have all of that up tonight, fingers crossed. (Y)

The Hawks hope to expose the Kings lack of depth in their frontcourt and keep a potent backcourt duo of Tyreke Evans and Kevin Martin quiet. After a convincing win against the Blazers, the Hawks defense will again be challenged. The bench is sure to be a factor as the Hawks begin to feel the early season pinch of a tough road-trip. Furthermore, this being the 2nd game of a back to back means that the Hawks will be hurting. Rumours prior to the game have Joe Johnson missing out with a sore groin, Woodson listed his status as questionable, three hours prior to the game.

1st Quarter: The Kings began well against a road-weary Hawks, with Kevin Martin hitting his first two shots. Joe Johnson, whom shrugged off injury to get the start, exposed Sacramento’s poor interior defense. Marvin Williams had his best quarter so far, hitting seven points in the first three minutes. At this stage the Hawks led 9-6, with the Kings only able to score from beyond the arc. Bibby was finding his teammates and had already recorded three assists when Woodson went to Teague. With several minutes still to play the hawks increased the tempo in the minutes that followed. Kevin Martin went 1-8 from the field and the hawks broke away with an 8-2 run. The Kings however, were able to block their way into the game, trailing 24-10, two block in the last minute gave the Kings a first quarter deficit of 10, 24-14. The factor to the lead was Atlanta’s strength on the class, as they finished the quarter with 16 rebounds.

2nd Quarter: Tyreke was on fire to start the second, the rookie standout went on a solo run which brought the Kings within one. Ime Udoka was dominant off the bench, recording 4 points, 4 rebounds and a block in just 3 minutes of play. After falling behind Mike Bibby got the hawks back on track. The veteran was on track for a double-double in rebounds and assists after grabbing his 5th rebound, which in turn led to his 5th assist. With 5:57 still to play Tyreke Evans found the basket to draw the Kings within four. In a low scoring affair Al Horford became a factor, grabbing rebound after rebound and finishing in the paint. Spencer Hawes recorded yet another block to give the Hawks seven for the game. Neither team was shooting a high percentage as the quarter concluded (Hawks – 38% and the Kings 25%), which led to a 43-38 lead for the Hawks after a somewhat lax half.

Player of the Half: Al Horford – 14 points, 6 rebounds & 2 assists

3rd Quarter: The Hawks started the quarter on fire, and via a Josh Smith long-bomb took a 12 point lead. The backcourt duo of Evans and Martin failed to convert on several occasions, and a Josh Smith block was only indicative of this dominance. After six minutes of play the Kings trailed 55-46. Three’s from Williams and Johnson later helped the Hawks open up an insurmountable 65-48 lead. Bibby simply couldn’t get his shot to fall, however, it was little concern for Mike Woodson who watched Joe Johnson hit his 16th and 17th point respectively. Sacramento continued to miss their opportunities and handed the Hawks a 16 point lead at three quarter time. 22 points and 10 rebounds courtesy Josh Smith was surely the catalyst for Atlanta’s explosion as they led 73-57

4th Quarter: The Hawks were unstoppable it seemed, keeping the Kings (yes warranted, it was just the kings) scoreless in the first 3 minutes. Sean May come on and engaged in a rough post move with Al Horford. Horford was knocked to the ground on the play and retaliated by pushing May. May was far from pleased and pushed Horford back. May was ejected after picking up a double-technical, whilst Horford also received a technical foul. The move sparked the Kings, who on adrenaline pushed the Hawks, cutting the deficit back to 15 with 5minutes to play. The comeback continued and the Hawks were able to get within single digits before the comeback was quashed. Bibby became the hawks’ focus as they looked to inject him into the game. Again, much to the Hawks dislike he struggled. An emphatic throwdown (the first of his career) for Jeff Teague gave him his 10th point of the game. Teague was in-turn pushing for serious game-time as Bibby struggled. After emptying benched the Hawks ended up taking yet another victory, this time 101-88.

Hawks handle Nuggets 100-89 behind Smith’s 31 – Horford breaks index and middle fingers

Recap:

Saturday, November 7, 2009. The Hawks won their fourth on the trot, 100-89, and improved to 6-1, however the victory came at great cost. Star center and rebounding machine Al Horford has broke both his index and middle finger. Initial reports suggest Al Horford will be hampered for 4-6, although doctors have cleared him to play after the Celtics, approximately one week from today. Horford will require minor reconstructive surgery to repair ligament damage, meaning Randolph Morris will be activated for the coming games against New York and Boston, and Horford, temporarily deactivated. Several days break could not come at a more appropriate time for the Hawks. Horford who has been instrumental to the Hawks success as of late will be replaced in the starting lineup by Zaza Pachulia who has improved his performance dramatically as of late. The Hawks are unlikely to make any transactions. Horford will be playing limited game-time and will likely have a reduced impact over the coming six weeks which is likely to mean increased in playing time for veterans Jason Collins and Joe Smith.

Horford breaks two fingers on lay-up attempt

Whilst attempting to finish at the basket, Al Horford fell to the ground landing on and breaking his index and middle finger (on right and shooting hand). The injury comes on the back of four-straight Hawks wins and after two tough back to backs. Further examination suggests that Al Horford will be hampered for 4-6 weeks and will be forced to wear a brace to support his fingers, and will not be cleared to play until the Portland game on November 16, which is approximately 11 days. Horford will require minor reconstructive surgery to repair ligament damage, meaning Randolph Morris will be activated for the coming games against New York and Boston, and Horford, temporarily deactivated. The Hawks have moved to say that no moves will be made considering their current depth on the inactive list at the position. They also believe Jason Collins and Zaza Pachulia are prepared for the additional role.

Image

This is the first injury of what has been an almost flawless campaign for the Atlanta Hawks (despite a tough last second loss against Los Angeles). Joe Smith commented on the injury in the media.
“Al is pivotal to our success, without him, yeah we’re not the same team, but Zaza and Jason will step it up for us, and I know I am comfortable with whatever role the team gives me.” Smith has been struggling with his own injury, a twisted right ankle, which he says has, “barely affected,” his play at all. Smith also noted that guys have shown they could step up in spite of Horford foul trouble and this will just mean they have to do it for a prolonged period.

Without Horford, fans are concerned upcoming games against New York, Boston and New Orleans, the three games Horford is likely to miss, include inside players which could pose problems. Within this stretch, the Hawks will meet David Lee, Al Harrington, Kevin Garnett, Rasheed Wallace, Emeka Oakafor, David West and Kendrick Perkins – all of whom are very competent post players.

Game 8– Hawks [6-1] vs Knicks [Second in division – 4-2] @ Madison Square Garden
Johnson's 24 leads Hawks past Knicks – extend winning streak to 5

Recap:
Wednesday, November 11, 2009. Yet another victory soured by injury. Joe Smith has dislocated his finger in a rebounding collision and sprained his ankle in an unrelated training drill. Smith will be Out and unable to play for between 1-2 weeks and will not return to full action for up to 3 weeks. The loss of Smith comes on the heels of a six-point defeat of the New York Knicks, 103-67, which cements Atlanta’s place as a dominant team in the east. Joe Johnson was again brilliant as were Mike Bibby and Marvin Williams whom continue to improve with time. The Smith injury came in rebounding duel with Knicks beef-cake Eddy Curry. The knicks unfortunately suffered their 3rd loss of the season due to an inability to convert from the charity stripe. The Knicks finished just 11-23 from the line, this compared to 18-22 for the Hawks. These seven points, were enough to give you my seven cents, the Knicks need some practice at the line and Mike better take care of that little flaw in practice, before it becomes a problem. One would hope it’s a lucky Friday the 13th for Atlanta, injury free when they face 2007 champions, the Boston Celtics.

With Horford hurting and Smith stumbling the Hawks look to make move

The Hawks have been rumoured to San Antonio Spurs DeJuan Blair. The college standout who played alongside Sam Young at Pittsburgh could be a suitable replacement for Horford’s rebounding prowess and Smith’s offensive versatility. Although undersized at only 6’7, Al Horford himself is only 6’10 and most belief he could hold his own as a Power-Forward/Center. The Spurs have been rumoured to be chasing a deal which would include Maurice Evans and a second round pick; however, it is unaware whether the hawks are willing to give up such quality. A move to sign either Maceo Baston, Stromile Smith or Chris Mihm has also been discussed as the Hawks look to cover adverse injuries.

The move comes at a time in which the Hawks face tough interior sides such as Portland, Boston, New Orleans and Orlando in the coming weeks. Moreover, evidence of the impact of Al Hordford came in the Los Angeles game where he was bullied inside. Therefore, without a dominant inside game offensively and defensively the Hawks could face further defeats.

The Utah Jazz have already moved to offer Kyrylo Fesenko for Othello Hunter. Which is a high possibility, considering the Hawks give up a 'no-hoper', sorry Othello for a young european with potential to succeed as an NBA backup.

With Ryan Anderson and Matt Barnes discontent with limited game-time (averaging 3.7 and 6.1 minutes respectively) the Magic have offered a three-way deal which would send M. Barnes and Orlando 2010 2nd round pick to Phoenix, Maurice Evans and Atlanta's 2011 2nd round pick to Orlando and Robin Lopez and Ryan Anderson to Atlanta.
Image

|Is Robin Lopez headed to Atlanta or will the Hawks go with an experienced big man/men such as Mihm or Swift?|

Furthermore, it is interesting to consider whether the Hawks will go with an experienced NBA veteran or seek out an up-and-coming player for the future.

Speculation is only speculation, but right now Sund and Woodson face quiet the dilemma indeed.

|DeJuan Blair has shown promise in the NBA and would be quiet the steal to replace Joe Smith come seasons end|

Oh man so many updates. Don't have the time to read everything closely. But, I have to say, nice winning streak. Johnson is playing like his solid real life counterpart. He's just putting up 20 a night and it helps so much to have someone who can do this in an effective way.

Bad loss in Horford. I'd try to get Robin Lopez, because he's a real big man and has some upwards on him. He also is not too good to trade for, whereas Blair would surely not be given away by the Spurs.

Both Blair and Lopez would be good pick-ups. I'd go with Blair, but without Horford you need for length, so go with Lopez.

After careful consideration, I have decided I am going after Robin Lopez, a trade will be posted when final.

I also think it would be wise to wait until tomorrow, incase people have other opinions or more suitable alternatives.

Rumours
The Heat are reportedly offering Jermaine O’Neal for Tracy McGrady. The move makes complete sense for both teams, well partly. The Rockets would get rid of Tracy for a competent center, and at the same time retain legitimate cap room for the off-season. Whilst Tracy would land in the nice surroundings of Miami, potentially a good change of scenery to re-ignite his career. The Heat would in turn play a smaller line-up of Haslem at the Center spot and Beasley at the Power-Forward spot.

In other news Grant Hills stellar season for the suns has seen the Wizards offer Andray Blatche and surprising the pacers offering an upset Troy Murphy for his services. Either move would be extremely beneficial for an improving Phoenix team keen to add good young players.
