Week 1(0-3)

Image 100-102 Image

1st quarter : 28-27
Sixers had a really decent quarter. There weren´t much problems, only little one with guarding Bryant and Davis. Team had a respectful shooting % - 47,8% , 60% from downtown. Boozer had very good quality quarter with his unstoppable jumpshoot, he got 10 points and 3 rebounds. Shaq scored also 4 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Kirk had 4 dimes. Boston had 2 unstoppable power offense player: Ricky Davis(9pts) and Kobe Bryant(8pts). Nash dished out 5 assists and Chandler got 5 boards.

2nd quarter: 57-49
Sixers started with 7-0 run, as Celtics din´t score in the first 2:29. Kirk had an amazing quarter: 7pts, 3 ast, 4 steals
He also shot 3/3 from the field, including a 3-pointer. Troy Murphy collected 3 boards.
Davis and Nash both scored 9 points, Ricky also had 2 assists. Peja finished the quarter with an amazing buzzer at 3. There were 1.7 seconds left after Celts scored 2 pointer, after that 76ers took a timeout with 1.6 seconds left. There were 3/4 of the court still to go. Pietrus passed to Peja who had run free from Bryant and shot a 3 pointer, what went in. The referees had to watch it over, if it was at the right time, but it counted.
(sidenote: Sixers hold Bryant at 0 points at the 2nd quarter)

Players at the half:
Kirk Hinrich
7 pts
7 ast
4 stl
3/5 FG

Ricky Davis
18 pts
2 rebs
2 ast
8/15 FG

3rd quarter: 78-77
C´s starter off with 13-2 run, so it was 62-59 to them. After that it was very close quarter. Boston forced 76ers to
do 6 turnovers.
Shaq was amazing - 8 points and 5 boards, he was helped by Carlos, with 7 points, board, 3 dimes and a
steal.
Ricky Davis still kept on going, this time even better: 14 points, 2 boards. Bryant added 4 points, 3 assists and 3 steals, Tyson Chandler 4 points, 3 rebounds and 2 blocks. (sidenote: Rookie PG played for the first time for 20 seconds)
4th quarter: 100-102
Sixers started off the final quarter with 7-0 run in 1:38. Celts answered right after that with 11-2. It was very equal game. [color=black]Shaq had 3 rebounds and 3 blocks on 4th. Troy Murphy added 10 points. 3:36 Carlos Boozer injured his arm and had to leave the game. Nash had some clutch moments(read after), and had 9 points, Nocioni grabbed 7 boards. Half minute before the end Sixers were down by 1 - 98:99. They needed to score, and Hinrich stepped forward as he got 2 free throws after grabbing offensive board from Shaq´s missed layup. Of course he didn´t miss. But 76ers couldn´t get to enjoy the lead for long: Steve Nash nailed a 3 with 15.6 seconds left and Celts had now 2 point lead. Sixers took a timeout, they needed to score. Peja tryed for 3 with 9 seconds left, missed. Although Harrison grabbed offensive board, he missed the clutch layup and Sixers lost their 1st game. Next game will be against Suns @ Wachovia Center.

Lol, you know there is no such thing as one person being a Captain, and then the other 2 being the Co-Captains... Either you have 1 Captain (Shaq), or you have 3 Co-Captains (Shaq, Hinrich, and Payton)....hahah... Co-Captain and Captains aren't like different ranks...

Retro night - Shaq makes triple-double

(sidenote: Sixers played with 82-83 home jersey, Nets 76-77 away jersey; Sixers also had short shorts)

1st quarter : 27-23
Shaq... seems like short shorts had lighten up his game to the old times. In first 4 minutes he blocked 6! shots. Until the end of the quarter, he didn´t block any shots anymore, but he also scored 6 points and grabbed 5 boards. In his first game of the season, Gary Payton already score 4 points in 3 minutes(2/3). Biedrins scored 3 points and got 5 rebounds, Yi added 2 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists and Smush also scored 8 points. New Jersey made 8-0 run from 19-19 to 27-19
2nd quarter : 58-48
It seemed like Sixers had fallen asleep, because Nets enlarged quickly their lead to 16. Main reason was former Buck, Mo Williams, who scored 14 points in the 2nd quarter. Also was helpful for the Nets Matt Harpring and J-Rich, who scored respectively 8 and 5 points. 76ers got back on track thanks to Peja´s 2 3s, dunk and one free throw. Also he grabbed 3 boards. Boozer had good quarter: 9 points and 4 boards. Nets shot 56,5% in the 2nd.
3rd quarter : 72-67
Shaq had an 3 amazing blocks in just 10 seconds, all that happened in just first 20 seconds of the quarter. Biedrins was blocked twice and Yi once. Philly started off again badly. Matt hitted 2 3-pointers in a row. But then, after that Philly´s defense finally started to work, New Jersey shot just 23,8% on 3rd quarter. Sixers mainly supported on front-court, Boozer had 5 points and 6 rebounds; Shaq had already made triple-double as he scored 4 points, grabbed 4 boards and blocked 4 shots; total now 12 points, 11 rebounds and 11 blocks. Splitter came good off the bench, grabbing 3 boards in 3 minutes.
4th quarter : 94-101
Sixers continued to play awsome defense. They had 4! blocks in just 8 seconds (Boozer 2, Peja 1 and O´neal 1). Troy came off the bench with very good energy as he had 9 points and 4 rebounds, Martell was also helpful, with 6 points and 3 rebs. D-Harrison had 2 points and 4 rebounds. Shaq finalised amazing game: 3 points and 5 blocks again. Nets shot 36% from the field on 4th.

Week 3(2-7)

Image 110-99 Image

Jefferson shoots well, takes home win

1st quarter 28-30
Orlando started off with 10-2 run, including Jefferson´s 3pointer. Jefferson collected total 7 points, same as Mike Miller. Interesting fact, that Kevin Garnett didn´t attempt any shot. On Orlando´s side 10 players already played, only Gelabale and Araujo didn´t played. 6 of them already scored. 76ers didn´t start well, but Boozer pulled back them into game, he scored 7 points in a row, 11 total at the end of the quarter. Sixers won reboundingon 1st quarter, 11-7 (O´neal4, Peja 4, Boozer 3) Pietrus and Hinrich dished out 3 assists. 76ers tryed a lot away from the basket(mostly midrange shot), but missed most of them. Orlando on the other hand tryed more to get inside.
P.S. Payton injured himself, but still could play

2nd quarter 50-62
Philadelphia started off again badly, they were left behind 38-49. Jefferson and Antonio Daniels both scored 7 points (Jefferson 3/5FG, Daniels 2/3FG, also 3/3FT). Again Garnett didn´t attempt any shots. Joe Smith and RJ both had 3 rebounds. Murphy had good quarter(5 points, 4 rebounds), Hinrich again dished 3 dimes. Orlando won rebounding 14-7, now leading 21-18. Orlando shot 54,2% from the floor(13/24). 76ers again tryed more midrange shots or 3 pointers, they shot only with 39%. Orlando again tryed more of a inside shots.
P.S. Only Gelabale haven´t played for Magic, Araujo played for 3 minutes in the 2nd.
Orlando has 4 players in double figures(Miller 12, Hughes 10, Jefferson 14, Daniels 12)

Players at the half:
Carlos Boozer
13 points
5 rebounds

Mike Miller
12 points
2 rebounds
2 assists
2 steals

3rd quarter 70-81
Magic continued to lead the way and weren´t slowing down, Boozer tryed to get back to game, but couldn´t do it by only himself, although he had good quarter(11 points, 5 rebounds). KG finally shot, and did it well, scored 6 points with 3/3 FG. 76ers won the rebounding 13-9. Sixers had an awful shooting quarter again, but this time they attempted more from inside. Magic tryed pretty equally from inside and outside.
P.S. Jefferson had his 3rd foul on the 3rd quarter.

4th quarter 99-110
Complete disaster for Philadelphia, Orlando ruled in every game element. Sixers were down by maximum 20 points. They only lost so little because of 7 treys in the 4th. Troy Murphy had a good quarter with 10 points and 4 boards(23 and 8 total). Martell Webster missed all his 6 attempts. Jefferson and Hughes ruled the way of Magic with 9 points both. Haywood had 2 blocks(6 total). Turiaf was good again in the boards with 2(total 9). Coach Maurice Cheeks was completely pissed after horrible game what it was. Philadelphia now have won only 2 from 7. Seems like changes are coming...

Captain Kirk out for 2 weeks

Image
76ers starting point guard Kirk Hinrich got injured in game against Supersonics. He was diagnosed with a torn achilles tendon. It´ll keep him out for about 2 weeks, he won´t able to play, team excpects him to be back end of November or start of December. Gary Payton will replace Kirk in the starting lineup. Also Aaron Brooks will be put on active list.

Around the League

About Atlanta:
Atlanta has won all 9 games, also leading the league. You can say right now they have the biggest trio in the NBA and also Kaman hasn´t opened up yet. Trio Battier, Wade and Iverson average total 61.3 points, 17.1 rebounds, 16.1 assists and 5.66 steals. Also they all are shootin over 46%, Battier extremely 52%. Also there has been big factor for them J.R. Smith, who has comed very well off the bench, averaging 7.4 points and 2 rebounds. Seems like fans of Atlanta have bright future, having some great youngsters like Wade, Kaman, Foye, Dudley, Telfair.

On Carmelo Anthony:
Former Nuggets player Carmelo Anthony leads the league in points with 27.8 points, that´s 3.2 point more than second Tim Duncan. Anthony also average 8.6 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.45 steals and 1.45 blocks, while shooting 57.7% from the field. Seems like an early MVP candidate. He lead the team to 6-5 record, but that might gonna be problem, since that´s probably not gonna be good enough record to win, but if Carmelo keeps it going this way, why not?

On unhappy teams:
Teams like Charlotte, Philadelphia, Seattle, San Antonio and Minnesota have started all awfully, all of them have won 2 games(total 10 games, that´s 1 more than Atlanta alone) and lost 6-8 games. Only team from here Minnesota is oriented to future(having Oden, Green, Brewer), also having veteran´s Kidd and Allen seems not to fit in Timberwolves organization. Those players seem to be good targets to all other 4 teams, who are all very unhappy how they have fared so far. Reportedly Philadelphia is trying to make a deal, apparently from different sources players like Stojakovic, Pietrus, Webster, Brooks and Murphy are on trade block. O´neal´s name has come forth on couple times also. Bobcats aren´t happy with Gooden, Mason, Jones and Francis, they´re looking to get deal with Minnesota, trying to get Allen. Seattle´s biggest problem seems to be chemistry problems, Randolph and Miles, both with attitude problems, have came to trade block also. One of them will be probably gonna trade, because they have had already some issues with each other.

Well we´ll see what future will brings, probably in near future few trades are possible.
This is Around the League and calls of tonight, see you next week, with new topics, new news, maybe even new trade news. We´ll see.
Good bye for now!

Blockbuster trade
20th November

Ray Allen is going back to Milwaukee! Ray Allen was traded to Milwaukee from Minnesota in 2 team trade inlcuding 7 players (just like in 1996 draft, when he was traded from Minnesota to Milwaukee). Milwaukee acquired also 2 players: veteran forward Vladimir Radmanovic and 2nd year guard Jose Barea. Minnesota got themselves big expiring contract with Keith Van Horn(14.49M), also veteran guard-forward Derek Anderson and two young players: point guard Rajon Rondo and forward-centre Josh Boone. Also looks like Minnesota has started their rebuilding and will trade probably Jason Kidd away in near future.

Trade overview:
Minnesota gets:
Keith Van Horn (14.49M, 1 year left, 32 year old, 69 ovrl, PF)
Derek Anderson (2.50M, 1 year left, 33 year old, 55 ovrl, SG)
Rajon Rondo (953K, 4 years left, 21 year old, 60 ovrl, PG)
Josh Boone (878K, 4 years left, 23 year old, 57 ovrl, PF)

Milwaukee gets:
Ray Allen (14.63M, 4 years left, 32 year old, 86 ovrl, SG)
Vladimir Radmanovic (6.00M, 5 years left, 27 year old, 57 ovrl, PF)
Jose Barea (620K, 1 year left, 20 year old, 54 ovrl, PG)

Thanks to this trade Bucks have only 11 players now and probably gonna sign a player soon (probably for league minimum or veteran minimum).
Destination of Jason Kidd will be most likely Charlotte, Indiana, Phoenix, Golden State or Portland.
First games for Bucks players will be already 21st November in Sacramento at 6.00PM against the Kings, first game for Timberwolves players will be in Dallas at 7.30PM against the Mavericks.

Week 4 (6-7) - 76ers win 4 straight

Finally they are starting to play as a team and win games. One of the star players, Kirk Hinrich, is still unavailable, probably will join the team next week. Carlos Boozer is averaging 22.8 points and is an early MVP candidate, but we will see that early next week, when first month finally will end. You can see a full coverage of the month next time. Good thing about these wins, that they aren´t against weak opponents, all teams has right now better record than Sixers. Rumours say that they are looking to trade one of the key players, no players are untouchable.

Image 95 - 87 Image

Image95 - 106 Image

Image 102 - 112 Image

1st quarter 27-17
76ers played well in the first. Defense was perfectly fit and in the offenese they didn´t take any not needed shots(they shot 68%, Wizards 37%). Shaq dominated in the paint, has already 4 blocks, including incredible 3 blocks in 1 possession. Although Sixers played zone defense, Aaron Brooks came into the game to specially cover Arenas, the key player of the Wizards. In his gametime (4 minutes), Arenas scored 2 points, 4 total in the 1st. Payton distributed mostly with his assists, 3 of them, the offense of Sixers was controlled by him single-handledly.
Image

2nd quarter 55-38
Sixers is still dominating, mostly because of their awsome offense, 66% shooting. Rebounding are under they control, 21-14. O´neal has done outstanding job on both ends of the floor, same goes with Boozer. David Harrison got hurt and hopefully he can still recover.
Image

Players at the half

3rd quarter 79-71
Wizards is back in the game. Turnovers killed Sixers badly, if they could´ve played little more carefully, they would´ve had already safe, about 20 points lead, they had maximum 18 points lead, but they played awfully in last quarter. They missed open shots, played bad defense. Boozer is high scorer with 21.

4th quarter 112-102
Philadelphia just knows how to lose your lead in very quick time. They managed to get 81-98 lead, basically thanks to Jannero Pargo, who stepped up big time, who saved Sixers after also. One minute after 98-81, it was 98-89 already, including Boozer´s missing dunk. Wizards took advantage of Sixers´s team´s panic, and reduced it to 4 points, 100-96. Just like before, Pargo stepped up and led them. He became the leader of the team, surprisingly. Pargo hasn´t showed any flashes yet this season, but this is good news for Sixers, that they have another good exploding player from the bench. Williams had good 4th quarter, 9 points, just like Arenas. Williams took game-high to his name, he had 24 points. Boozer had 23 points, O´neal had another double-double, 14 points, 11 rebounds and 5 blocks. Pargo totaled 8 points and 6 assists only in 10 minutes of playing time. Daniels had good scoring game, 13 points from him. Good news is that Harrison was able to recover and come back to the game. Most of the points of Wizards came from backcourt, Williams 24, Arenas 21, Lowry 13, Stackhouse 14, Prince 16. Okafor and Okur totaled only 8! points. Philadelphia has now won 3 straight and looking for 4th tomorrow night in Orlando. One thing coach Cheeks was really happy about, that they shot very well, even without Kirk Hinrich. He also remarked that probably at least one the players will be traded this season, rather sooner than later. (David Harrison still can play, although he´s performance is affected by his injury).
