The Supersonics crush the Lakers in their debut

Box Score
Lakers: 99
Supersonics: 114

Image
Chris Wilcox was the Jordan™ Player of the game with 23 pts and 14 rebounds

It was a highly anticipated night for the Seattle Supersonics. It was Kevin Durant's first offical NBA game and the spectators were wondering how he would keep up with Kobe Bryant and the Lakers. Before the game, interviewers asked Durant how he felt and if he was nervous at all. Durant commented, "No, I'm not nervous at all. I'm pumped up and ready to go."

Durant proved he wasn't nervous as he had 16 pts, 7 boards, and 6 assists in his debut against the Lakers. Another star was Chris Wilcox. He led the team in scoring and rebounds with 23 pts and 14 boards. He was also 5-5 from the charity stripe. The Lakers get another chance on Sunday as they face the Supersonics one more time.

Lakers make another move due to lack of progress

Image

After a humiliating loss to the young developing Minnesota Timberwolves, the Lakers owner was furious. Also, Milicic was not producing as well as expected, so the Lakers decided to make another move. In a search for a stable player to fill in the PF position, the Lakers came across Udonis Haslem of the Miami Heat. In a long discussion a trade was completed on Wednesday morning 6:15 AM. In return for Udonis Haslem and Michael Doleac, the Lakers departed Stromile Swift and Darko Milicic to the Miami Heat. We feel his rebouding ability and athleticism will be perfect for the Lakers lineup.

Looking good so far. Nice to see Walton producing fairly well off the bench. Hopefully Kobe starts hitting his 3's.

Another thought about your rotation. Maybe give Darko some time at the 5 and keep Mihm on the bench. Also, I'd think about either benching or trading Cook. His only desirable attribute is his ability to stretch the D, which Walton gives you just as well or better at the 4. You could trade him for reasonable back up at SG/SF, somebody like Rashad McCants if you want youth, or somebody like Greg Buckner if you want another veteran defensive presence. So, assuming you trade for let's say Webster, your rotation would look like:

C: Bynum - Swift - Milicic
PF: Milicic - Walton - Swift
SF: Miller - Walton - McCants/Griffin
SG: Kobe - McCants/Griffin - Miller
PG: Fisher - Crittenton - Vujacic

That looks like a more well-balanced team to me, but it's just my opinion. Whatever you choose to do, good luck.

Edit: Looks like you beat me to the punch. Hopefully Haslem works out for you, though I'd have hung onto Milicic if I could have.

Yeah, I'd train Crittenton and Bynum the heaviest, also give Walton some time, but remember not to neglect anyone you want to keep around for next season.

As for what to do with Doleac, what's your full roster like right now?
If I'm not mistaken you should have (by position):

C: Bynum - Mihm - Doleac
PF: Haslem - Cook
SF: Miller - Walton
SG: Bryant - Vujacic - Karl
PG: Fisher - Crittenton

Did I miss anyone?

Mon Aug 20, 2007 3:53 pm

yes u forgot jordan farmar

i still have waived salary from cardinal who i dropped earlier

hes worth like 5 mil for 3 seasons and he cant really rebound or block so hes useless in my book.. in your opinion u think it was good to have dropped him?

Here is the new player rotation

Mon Aug 20, 2007 4:09 pm

Yeah, no need for Cardinal. And with the team you have, I'd run a pretty short rotation, something to the effect of:

C: Bynum - Haslem
PF: Haslem - Walton
SF: Miller - Walton
SG: Kobe - Miller
PG: Fisher - Crittenton

And use the following guys only a few minutes per game:

Mihm
Cook
Vujacic
Farmar

However, this roster actually leaves you with a fair amount of leeway. You could go really small if wanted with a Haslem - Walton - Kobe - Fisher - Crittenton lineup, or you could field a really big lineup with Bynum - Haslem - Walton - Miller - Kobe. You've got lots of options available.

But I don't think I'd release Doleac. If one your bigs goes down with an injury, Dloeac will probably need to fill in, and he's serviceable.

hows my new updated player rotation

should i use coby karl? or jordan farmar? thats a tough one

Well, for one, I think Doleac should be moved to the IL for Farmar, then I'd probably go something like this (rough estimate of % of minutes played)

C: Byunm 65 - Mihm 25 - Haslem 10
PF: Haslem 60 - Walton 20 - Cook 20
SF: Miller 60 - Walton 35 - Kobe - 5
SG: Kobe 75 - Miller 15 - Fisher 10
PG: Fisher 55 - Crittenton 35 - Farmar 10

I really don't know how that would work in simulation, but I have found the following things to be generally true for good simulation results:
1) Obviously, give most minutes to best players
2) Utilize secondary positions
3) As much as possible, try to get complementary players at the same position, i.e. if you have a great offensive PG who can't play D, get a great defensive PG as his backup
4) Starting lineup need not consist of your best player at each position. In fact, Miller seems like he would kill off the bench for this team. Personally, I usually play the 5 players with the highest FG% (among players who've played substantial minutes) as my starting 5, so it changes due to player performance. For instance, I might play a lineup of, given the right personnel, PF-PF-SG-PG-PG, but only if I have a PF who plays C as well, and an SG who plays SF, etc.
5) With the previous suggestion in mind, if you do come a across a starting 5 that just kills, stick with it.
6) Remember, starters do not have to play heavy minutes. I've had teams where my starting C only played 10 minutes, but it was an effecient and effective 10, and my team seemed to thrive off it.
7) The only constant starters should be the star players. On this team, that pretty much means Kobe Bryant.
8) Diversity is a great thing. This team has it. You've got some bigs who can shoot the 3, Haslem's got some mid range game, great playmakers at SF with Walton and Miller, a good balance of inside/outside play, and solid D.

That's about it. The more I think about this team's lineup, though, the more intriguing it becomes. You've assembled a really unique blend of players here, and I think I like it.

u forgot about vujacic this time :/

anyways i just simmed a game against portland and the lakers won 124-89.. so my rotation worked out fine.

ill post a short recap soon (first recap i simmed)

Haslem's Debut with the Lakers

Box Score
Lakers: 124
Trailblazers: 89

It was Haslem's first game with the Lakers. The move was made by the Laker's owner and GM after a disappointment loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves Tuesday night. Milicic and Swift both failed to click with the roster. Now it was Haslem's chance to prove he is worthy to wear purple and gold.

Haslem proved just that as he connected 9 of 14 of his shots and ended with 23 points and 5 boards.

Haslem does it again against the Pistons

Haslem fouls out against the Pistons, but Luke Walton pulls through for the Lakers

Lamar Odom greeted his old teammates on Sunday. He showed the Lakers why they shouldn't have traded him away. He got a triple double and shot an amazing 15-21 from the field along with 10 boards and 12 assists. However, Lamar's triple double wasn't enough for the Lakers. Luke Walton also had a solid game. He had 11 pts, 7 boards, 12 assists, 4 steals, and 2 blocks.

Mon Aug 20, 2007 5:40 pm

Nice game from Walton, and crazy game from Odom!

That Haslem trade sure is looking real nice right now.

Also, I did not forget Vujacic in that rotation, I just wouldn't play him. He doesn't do anything for you that someone else on your roster doesn't do better. (Hopefully that made sense)

Mon Aug 20, 2007 6:03 pm

Nice trade to get Haslem (Y) I hope He will score many pts for the lakers.

Tue Aug 21, 2007 4:19 am

oh snap! Darko was sent packin' after only three games to prove himself? you run a tight ship

not a huge fan of Haslem but he seems to be doing well for you so nice pickup (Y)

Tue Aug 21, 2007 4:46 am

thx for all the comments guys

the team chemistry greatly increased after the trade so my team is doing well right now

haslem was the solution and milicic and swift was the problem

Tue Aug 21, 2007 6:30 am

I'd prefer Darko over Haslem, but you can't argue with what brings you results.

Odom murdered your team bad... I'm glad that you managed to survive that, but at the same time I'm happy that Odom got a chance to play so well since he's one of my favourite players.

Tue Aug 21, 2007 6:58 am

ya that was sum crazy stats he put up

oh btw why do u prefer darko over haslem?

Tough loss against the Raptors

Lakers: 115
Raptors: 121

Kobe Bryant dunks over two Raptors

It was the fourth game since Udonis Haslem's arrival. They won three straight games since. However, this time was different. Haslem had five fouls going into the fourth quarter and fouled out soon enough. Even with Andreas Bargnani out with an injury, Chris Bosh carried the team with 28 pts, 9 rebounds, and 4 assists. Garbajosa was on fire from the bench shooting 6-6 from the field and 2-2 from beyond the arc. Andrew Bynum showed great improvement as he shot 10-12 from the field and ended with 20 pts, 5 boards, 4 steals, and 2 blocks. Mike Miller also contributed with 6 three-pointers.

22 and 10. "Kobe always plays well against the Raps"

But this time it wasn't enough, too bad you lost.
And nice pickup wit Haslem, I really like him.

btw I'd take Farmar (He's in the inactive list?) over Coby Karl

Tue Aug 21, 2007 8:01 am

Nice game from Bynum. A few more boards would have been nice, but that was pretty solid.

Injury Report

Laker's forward Luke Walton suffered a broken toe on Friday night's game against the Utah Jazz. Laker's trainer Javier Rubio says this injury will take typically 2 weeks to recover. The Lakers expect Walton back and healthy in Dec. 8's game when they face the Atlanta Hawks.
