DALLAS SLIP LATE, BUT HOLD ON FOR WIN

(fourth-quarter intervention)

Memphis came steaming back at the Mavericks in the fourth quarter, but the Mavs held on to the victory after steadying.

Entering the fourth-quarter with a nineteen-point lead, Dallas was worried early in the quarter as Pau Gasol made some little fadeaway jumpers over DeSagana Diop, and Damon Stoudamire penetrated and made a series of mid-range jump shots with help defenders constantly all over him.

However, Avery Johnson reintroduced his bench, who slowed the game down, and played some tighter defence, especially on dangerous marksman Mike Miller. Erick Dampier got offensive boards like he has done all season, and Josh Howard drained a three as Dallas kept the score in check. When Memphis double-teamed, Jason Terry heated up after an ordinary shooting night to drill some threes and put the game to rest.

Nowitzki continues to be tremendous early on in the season, logging 33 points, 16 rebounds and 6 assists. Terry and Howard both scored 22 points for the Mavericks. Pau Gasol had 27 and 10 for the Grizzlies, Miller had 17 and Stoudamire's late surge ended with him scoring 23.

DALLAS PUMMEL SACRAMENTO

(full sim)

The Mavericks finally pulled out an easy win today as they cruised past the Sacramento Kings in the final quarter with an explosive offensive performance, 130-104.

With the game still in the balance with the Mavs eight points up, it was quickly dismissed as Dallas scored 42 in the final quarter. Jason Terry scored 36 points with 6-7 3-pointers and 11 assists, and Dirk Nowitzki had 30 points with 10 boards. Josh Howard scored 23 and Stackhouse added a useful 20 off the bench. Mike Bibby scored 24 points with 8 assists, Brad Miller had 23 and 9 boards and Shareef Abdur-Rahim scored 24.

DALLAS STEADIES, BEATS MILWAUKEE

(third-quarter intervention)

For most of the third quarter, the Dallas Mavericks looked like the chokers who lost four straight games to concede the championship to the Miami Heat.

However, they adjusted to defeat the Bucks 115-101 and continue their unbeaten start to the season.

After racing out of the blocks to a fifteen-point lead after one quarter, the teams went toe-to-toe in the second, with the Mavs leading by 13 at the half. However, the lead was rapidly whittled down, and even overhauled as the Bucks came out after the break shooting and hitting everything. A couple of big plays by Charlie Villaneuva on the defensive end, and a couple of no-calls turned the momentum around for the Bucks, but eight unanswered points, including two Austin Croshere threes helped Dallas regain the lead. From there, the Mavericks were able to cruise to the finish line.

Dirk Nowitzki was once against a dominant scoring threat with 29 points and 7 rebounds, Josh Howard scored 22 and Jerry Stackhouse continued to play the sixth man role perfectly off the bench with 16 points. Michael Redd scored 26 points and had 7 assists for the Bucks, and Bobby Simmons had a great game with 23 points, 10 rebounds and 2 blocks.

PIERCE LEADS CELTICS OVER MAVS

(fourth-quarter sim)

Dallas fans were left disappointed as the Mavericks were beaten comfortably by the Celtics, 104-90, snapping their unbeaten run.

"We just weren't ready. We didn't play well." Avery Johnson said after the game.
"The only good thing to take from this is that there's no pressure on us to keep riding a winning streak now. We can focus on playing and working towards the playoffs now." Dirk Nowitzki, who had 25 points and 9 rebounds, said.

The Celtics were hot from the field, shooting 49% compared to the 42% of the Mavericks. By the end of the third, the margin was 19 and Johnson played around with his bench in the fourth.

Paul Pierce was damaging for Boston, scoring 33 points on 14-24 shooting, grabbing 9 rebounds, dishing out 8 assists and stealing the ball three times, keeping both Celtics fans and his fantasy owners happy. Delonte West was also hot from the field, drilling 29 points. Sebastian Telfair and Wally Szczerbiak had good games coming off the bench.

MAVERICKS THUMP KNICKS IN BIG DEFENSIVE PERFORMANCE

Isiah Thomas was scratching his head by the fourth quarter.

His Knicks, a team made from the highest salary cap in the league, was getting blown out harshly by Dallas' second-string reserves.

On the back of a despicable shooting performance, made somewhat respectable by Eddy Curry's 9-of-11 shooting coming from a series of sweet post moves, the Knicks were bounced 102-71 in a terribly one-sided game of basketball.

After keeping within the Mavericks only to have new Maverick Luol Deng dunk twice in the last two seconds of the first half, the Knicks played awfully in the second as Dallas rolled away to an easy win with possibly their best performance of the season. When Maurice Ager and Pops Mensah-Bonsu, scoring 11 points combined, were playing the whole of the final quarter, there wasn't much for New York to take out of this game.

A lot can be contributed to horror shooting nights by Stephon Marbury (2-17) and Jamal Crawford (3-16). Steve Francis would've joined them, but he made two late baskets to end up with a respectable looking 6-from-15. Eddy Curry was the only one who performed for the Knicks, as a constant lot post threat and swatting five shots away. The Knicks also managed to go the line only three times.

Dirk Nowitzki cruised during the game, and ended up with 22 points and 7 boards in a mere 18 minutes, as Ben Gordon and Luol Deng settled in quickly as new Mavericks. Devean George was impressive at taking over the point when Devin Harris was on-court.
"These guys really add depth to this team, and Devin seems to be enjoying being point guard more often." Avery Johnson happily said afterwards.
Although the former Bulls only contributed a combined 20 points, they gave solid minutes and played better defense than Jason Terry and Jerry Stackhouse, whom were given up in the trade.

"It was fun. I like it here, the fans are as vocal as they are in Chicago, the organization is pretty good and the guys are cool." Ben Gordon said afterwards, as Dallas enjoyed the spoils of an easy victory.

And for the Knicks?

DALLAS SUCCUMB WEAKLY TO MINNESOTA

(fourth-quarter sim)

Instead of consolidating their strong win against New York, the Mavs played terribly in Minnesota, shooting 39% and going down to Kevin Garnett's Wolves.

The Timberwolves were seventeen points up by the break, and Dallas never even made it look like it was going to be close.
"We played badly, that's it." Ben Gordon, who continued to struggle on shooting, said.
"They shot a lot better than us tonight. We couldn't get anything to drop for long enough to enforce some pressure." said a disappointed Dirk Nowitzki.

Although the Mavericks contained Kevin Garnett well, with Nowitzki playing on the former MVP most of the time, Ricky Davis stepped up and scored 27 points on 12-28 shooting, using his height to shoot constantly over Luol Deng and Josh Howard. He also had 13 boards and 8 assists. Dirk Nowitzki was superb again, grabbing 15 rebounds and scoring 26 points. Josh Howard scored 16, but Ben Gordon's third consecutive bad shooting night (going back to before the trade) continued with a 4-for-17 night.

The Mavericks face LeBron James and the Cavaliers next.

SUFFOCATING D GIVES DALLAS THE WIN

The Cleveland Cavaliers had another frustrating offensive performance, and it wasn't helped much by Dallas' defence and the frailness at point guard.

Daniel Gibson had a serious off-night with a mind-blowingly bad 12 turnovers, as did Shannon Brown with 1-of-10 shooting as the Mavericks earned an easy 95-79 victory.
"I just had an awful night. I've average about a turnover per game for the last three before tonight." Gibson said ruefully afterwards.

Even though Dallas shot just 41% and 7-of-26 three pointers, they collected another haul of offensive boards, with 18 in total, which simply knocked the stuffing out of the Cavs.

After taking a five-point advantage at the first-quarter break, Cleveland pushed back but Dallas had a 12-0 run to put themselves ahead by 14 at the half. It was extended in the third, and was pushed forward harshly in the fourth by Dallas reserves before a 18-6 run made the scoreline look more respectable.

"We played well tonight, but I still think we were too loose at the end, we were letting them run and score a bit too easily." Avery Johnson said afterwards.

LeBron James scored 31 points and had 7 rebounds, Larry Hughes scored 20 while Zydrunas Ilgauskas grabbed 17 boards and swatted away four shots. Dirk Nowitzki had a terrible shooting night with 3-of-14 to end with 9 points and 7 rebounds, but the Mavericks was again balanced in scoring, with Josh Howard topping with 22 points. Devean George has continued to settle into his role as fill-in point guard well, with 12 points, 4 steals and 3 assists. The Dallas bench hammered Cleveland's reserves, outscoring them 42-2.

A Texas blockbuster is on next as Dallas face bitter rivals San Antonio Spurs, who are looking to avenge last season's playoffs defeat.

------DALLAS CHOKE, LOSE TO SPURS IN CLOSE ONE------

The Texas blockbuster lived up to expectations as the Dallas Mavericks and the San Antonio Spurs played out a thrilling game, with the Spurs gaining revenge from last year with a 95-90 victory.

Manu Ginobili hit an impossible but controversial game-winning shot, a three-pointer in the corner with Dirk Nowitzki all over him, but replays showed that his foot was clearly on the line, and on the ensuing possession, Nowitzki was forced to go for a game-tying three, instead of passing it to DeSagana Diop, who was rather open under the basket. He missed, and Tony Parker iced the result with two free throws.

However, it shouldn't have come to that late in the game. Dallas had a 6-point lead after Austin Croshere made a floating finger-roll layup over Robert Horry via an inbound, but Tony Parker sank two big shots over markers, and Bruce Bowen tied it up with a jumper after getting away with a blatant foul at the other end on Devin Harris.

"We couldn't hold out. It's going to leave a bitter taste in our mouths for sure." Nowitzki said afterwards.
"Some of the calls were a load of bullshit." was all Mark Cuban had to say afterwards.

The Spurs overran Dallas in the second quarter with Ginobili and Parker both having hot hands and scoring constantly over bigger defenders. Duncan kept the Mavs at bay in the third, where they pressed hard, as he came up with a series of amazing dunk putbacks and even a lollipop shot from over the backboard. Dallas kept moving forward thanks to Josh Howard's shooting and went ahead on Dirk Nowitzki's three, but imploded at the end.

Dirk Nowitzki had 27 points and 8 rebounds with 7 blocks, holding a swat party with Diop who had 6, but he couldn't get it done in the dying moments. Ben Gordon continues to struggle and had a crucial turnover late in-game and Howard scored 16. For the SPurs, Ginobili was brilliant, drilling the Mavs for 32 and managing a stunning career-high of 6 blocks. Tim Duncan had 18 points and 18 boards, and Tony Parker scored 24 points. The rebounding margin was 45-32, a worrying sight for the Mavs.

"Hopefully, we can learn from this and move on." Avery Johnson said afterwards.

----MAVS DESTROY LAKERS IN FIRST QUARTER, WIN EASILY----

(fourth-quarter sim)

The Dallas Mavericks responded viciously to critics claiming that nothing had changed, with a violent first quarter performance against LA.

In one of the most one-sided quarters in possibly NBA history, the Mavs outscored the Lakers 46-13 in the first quarter to set up an easy 110-87 win, and left Phil Jackson scratching his head in annoyance.
"Unbelievable. It was just unbelievable." he said afterwards, completely stunned.

After the first-quarter rampage, things cooled down and the Lakers had a 29-17 third quarter as Dallas dropped off in the second half and gave their reserves some rubbish minutes.

Dirk Nowitzki bounced back to score 25 points, with 7 rebounds and a season-high 6 dimes, Devin Harris scored 19 points and Ben Gordon shot better for his 17. Kobe Bryant scored 22 and Radmanovic scored 16, the only numbers really worth noting for the Lakers.

I haven't got Live 07 :P. I might be getting a friend's during the weekend to install SUM 07, but NBA Live 2005 has converted rosters, good graphics and with Seushiro's MM07 aiact, the gameplay is still very good. Perhaps more balanced than 07's.

------HOWARD HEATS UP, BEATS HORNETS TO END NOVEMBER------

(fourth-quarter sim)

If the Dallas Mavericks can produce one overwhelming quarter per game, and Josh Howard can score 30+ points a little more often, the NBA title is on its way to the big D.

Howard scored 34 points on 13-of-21 shooting before fouling out, and was a vital part of the win.

After trailing by nine after the first and three at half-time, the Mavs knocked the stuffing out of the New Orleans Hornets with a fearsome third quarter run of 33-13, which could've been ever better if they hadn't finished the quarter with 10 missed shots.

Although New Orleans went for the comeback at the start of the fourth, Dallas' starting lineup held themselves, and allowed the bench players rubbish minutes. A Peja Stojakovic three temporarily put the margin to nine, but Luol Deng kept the Hornets out of sight with a series of rim-rattling jams.

Besides Howard, Dirk Nowitzki cruised with 17 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists, happy to defer with a much bigger depth chart to play with. Luol Deng had 17 points and 6 boards and put the game out of reach. For Hornets, Peja had 21 points with 5 offensive boards, and Chris Paul was shredding with 29 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists.

With the first month down, the Mavericks look like they can drown the nightmares of 05-06.

Also, I have a problem with rosters...the 06-07 opening night roster which I edited for all roster updates has a 99 Greg Oden, and 99 Joakim Noah in it, and I only just realized when looking at NBA News. If I remove them from the .dbf, will they not appear in the draft? Will the game screw up?

DALLAS CRUISE OVER STRUGGLING PHILLY

The Mavericks strolled away to record a lazy 92-73 win over the struggling 76ers.

DeSagana Diop set up the victory very early by grabbing offensive rebounds and finishing some alley-oop passes by Devin Harris as Dallas bounced to a fifteen-point lead. Although Philadelphia was able to reduce the margins several times, primarily due to Andre Miller's one-man show, the Mavs stayed in the lead all game to win convincingly.

Dirk Nowitzki and Ben Gordon both had 18 points, scored almost absent-mindedly, Devin Harris showed that he can become a great floor general in the future with nine assists, Luol Deng and Austin Croshere both had decent scoring games and Diop collected 11 rebounds. In fact, Dallas were outrebounded 36-33, but the result showed it didn't really matter.

For the Sixers, Miller did the bulk of the scoring with 30 points on 14-of-32 shooting, acting like the go-to guy Allen Iverson had been, Dalembert had four blocks and was strong on the boards, but there wasn't much too talk about as Mo Cheeks was disappointed that they couldn't improve on their performance against Dallas earlier in the season.

------DALLAS OUTPLAYED BY PHOENIX------

Dallas were inconsistent for most of the game as they succumbed to the Phoenix Suns, 105-92.

"We weren't good enough in patches. We had a chance, but we let them run away too easily. Some mistakes were elementary." Avery Johnson said afterwards.

In fact, the only thing that went right for Dallas was after the game, where Josh Howard was cleared for an eye-gouging charge which Boris Diaw claimed had occurred during the game, but it was deemed a natural reaction as Diaw drove past. Mark Cuban might be in trouble again after commenting on the issue though.

And by that, he meant things such as Ben Gordon's missed open lay-up, and DeSagana Diop failing to collect a rebound bouncing in front of him, which led to a Shawn Marion dunk. The Mavericks fell behind early and never lead afterwards.

The game started off early with Raja Bell hitting two big threes with defenders jumping all over him, and some poor defence gave Steve Nash, Boris Diaw and Shawn Marion easy passages to the basket for lay-ups and dunks. By the end of the first, the score was 31-18, and the Mavs were out of it.

However, the Mavericks pushed their way slowly back in the second, especially later on as Dirk Nowitzki suddenly found his touch after being an offensive non-factor for most of the half. He hit three shots in a row and Josh Howard stepped up with a series of athletic moves to reduce the margin to 6 at the half.

The comeback continued early into the second as Dallas limited Phoenix, and reduced the gap to 2. Then, suddenly Steve Nash found his shot, and started hitting everything: driving in and making lay-ups, shooting little hooks, making jumpers all over his marker's faces. Amare Stoudemire started firing with him with a number of monster jams over Erick Dampier and DeSagana Diop. The Suns had a seventeen-point lead by the end of the third and although Nowitzki tried his best to keep the Mavs within reach, the game was decided.

"Very disappointing, we didn't play well when we needed to. We should've gone on from that comeback we put together." Ben Gordon said afterwards.

Nash ended up with 35 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists and Stoudemire scored 27 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and had 8 blocks, most of which were ridiculously good blocks from behind. Dirk Nowitzki blitzed the Suns for 35 and Josh Howard scored 25, but they failed to get support of any note from anyone else.

Dallas faces Indiana next.

No, it's as a result of a screw-up in the rosters I used to start off with. It had a 99 Greg Oden and 99 Joakim Noah, so I had to make them obsolete by going into the .dbf and changing their ratings to 0 in everything. I might cause a hazard if I delete them.

LOL, NBA Live 05 is one of the best versions of live. The gameplay didn't have as many bugs as 06 and 07 had and its pretty realistic with new AI acts and proper settings. The graphics are good enough and there are enough resources around that keep it still alive. Personally i think live 07 sucks...

-------DALLAS PUNCH INDIANA------

(fourth-quarter sim)

Using another first-quarter run, the Dallas Mavericks continued to fly on with a 98-72 victory over Indiana.

The lead was up to 17 by the first break, and from then on, it was smooth sailing for Dallas, who rode on a better shooting performance of 26 points by Ben Gordon, who was unlucky not to go to the line several times in the fourth.
"Yeah, I played a lot better today, I got my shot out early and hit a few, so that's a start." Gordon said.

Josh Howard continued his consistent scoring streak with 23 while Dirk Nowitzki cleaned out the boards with 16 rebounds. Jermaine O'Neal scored 15 and Jamaal Tinsley scored 14 for the rather offense-starved Pacers.

------DALLAS BEAT SEATTLE IN OVERTIME THRILLER------

(fourth-quarter sim)

The Dallas Mavericks were eight points down early in the fourth with Rashard Lewis hitting everything.

Enter Dirk Nowitzki.

The German big man, ridiculed for his lack of clutch ability, stepped up to score 19 points in the fourth quarter to send the game into overtime, but he nearly ruined it all when he missed a game-winning three with two seconds left.

It was no problems in the end though, as thanks to a sizeable contribution of 38 points by Ben Gordon, Dallas pushed past the Seattle Supersonics 130-126.

After watching their five-point halftime lead disappear, the Mavs started the fourth shooting badly, and Rashard Lewis took advantage with two threes and a massive fadeaway jumper, all on Josh Howard.

However, Dallas manage to steady, and Avery Johnson brought on Luol Deng, and put Nowitzki on Lewis simply to combat his height, praying that Lewis wouldn't beat his superstar with his speed and handles.

It worked well, and Deng managed to drill an open three as Dallas pushed back hard, led by Nowitzki who was making a series of mid-range jumpers. But suddenly, Luke Ridnour started to get past Devin Harris, as did Ray Allen, who started making shots over Ben Gordon. However, Deng grabbed a vital offensive rebound to reduce the gap to 1, then Harris found Nowitzki open on the fast-break, and Nowitzki finished.

But then, an piece of misfortune almost condemned Dallas. After DeSagana Diop had blocked Chris Wilcox's shot and sent it out-of bounds, Danny Fortson's inbound pass deflected off Diop's fingers as he went for the steal, and straight into Wilcox's hands, who slammed it in. Dallas went back down the court, and Deng was fouled, and he made a free throw to tie it up.

Dallas picked up a stop, and Nowitzki was fed to ball for the go-ahead basket, but Ridnour continued to penetrate and feed the ball to open players, while at the other end, the Mavs missed crucial shots. Nowitzki had what seemed like the game-winner with twenty seconds left, but after a time-out, the Sonics forced two offensive rebounds, and the second resulted in a tip-in by Fortson. Nowitzki had time to shoot for the win, but his short clanged off the front, and Diop couldn't get the put-back in time.

In overtime, Dallas jumped out early with a few baskets and a three to Ben Gordon. They held onto this lead despite several Seattle pushes, and were able to make free throws-going 8-8 from the line in overtime, as they raced away to another win.
"We were pretty relieved afterwards, it would have been tough to let that game go." Johnson said in the press conference afterwards.
"We're pretty disappointed. We had a good chance of winning the game, our defence early in overtime probably cost us too much." Lewis said.

Along with Gordon's 38 and Dirk's 36, DeSagana Diop continues to put up solid figures of 8 points, 12 rebounds and 6 blocks. Luol Deng made all his shots for 20 points and grabbed 6 rebounds, and Devin Harris was calm at the line, and ended with 5 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. Josh Howard also stuffed the stat sheet, posting 17 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists.

For Seattle, Lewis had a brilliant line of 37 points and 10 rebounds, the sharpshooting Ray Allen had 32 and Ridnour impressed with 22 points, 11 assists and 8 rebounds, just off a triple-double. Both Chris Wilcox and Nick Collison played double-double games, and Seattle will hope their starters can continue to produce such form.

"If we can get a similar contribution from everyone like tonight, we should be in good shape." Ray Allen said.

For some reason I thought this dynasty had been stopped.

Anyway, your doing great and it's good to see you got Deng. Your recap style is far, far better than when you started, makes for a really nice read. Keep up the good work.

By the way, it may just be my computer but the Deng putback jam video stops just as he cocks the ball back to dunk it.
