MEMPHIS, Tenn., Nov. 2 (Ticker) --
Dwyane Wade just couldn't be stopped by Grizz defense as he posted 26 points, and the Heat won, 123-103.
"Dwyane was fabolous today," Heat coach
Stan Van Gundy said. "His offense was very, very good, as always."
Rising star Wade also added 4 rebounds and ten assists, when
Shaquille O'Neal chipped in 26 points for Miami.
"Right now, we are in the right direction," O'Neal said. "On this team, we have a lot of different guys who can step up, night in and night out, and win games."
Miami president
Pat Riley received some criticism for breaking with team chemistry by acquiring
Antoine Walker,
Jason Williams and
Gary Payton in the offseason, but the initial results were positive.
Walker and Williams scored 11 points each, when Payton only posted 5, but had 4 assists.
"That's one thing that's good about this team; if somebody doesn't have it going, we can obviously go to somebody else," Walker said.
Pau Gasol paced the Grizzlies with 33 points and 11 rebounds, but only scored six points in the second half.
Acquired from Miami in the offseason,
Eddie Jones added 19 points for Memphis in 40 minutes.
The Heat shot 49-of-89 (.551) from the field, when the Grizzlies only shot 32-of-88 (.364).
"Miami defended better than us. They passed the ball really well. They had a good shot selection. We had to fight to get a good shot, and they just don't give you one," Memphis coach
Mike Fratello said, frustrated.
