71, he's got really good defensive stats but he's got terrible offensive stats, which is why I'm so surprised...his 3pt rating is a 34, yet he goes 3-5 from 3pt range. :eh:

“Back to the NBA Raptors – Wizards, let’s fast-forward straight to the 3rd quarter. Wizards down by 1, rookie Mike Black with the steal. He just drives up court and – CRAZY BANANAS! That dunk’s a top play nominee!”

Mike smiled as he watched Stuart Scott continue the highlights for the game the day before. He never dreamed he would be on Sportscenter, let alone be in the top plays. This was really happening, he was sitting in a hotel room in He sat back in his chair and reflected. Sure, he was just a rookie now, just an NBA newcomer, a player that probably didn’t deserve the attention he was getting, but what about a few years from now? He had signed a short contract for Washington, and was so excited to be in the league he just took their first offer. He realized he would probably need an agent, but where to get one? No. he thought. I’m getting ahead of myself. That’s what Dad would say, don’t get a big head. Remember where you came from. With that though, he had the sudden urge to go play a pickup game at Rucker. Only one problem with that idea, he realized: he was in Canada, and he had a flight to Chicago with the team hours later. He grabbed a ball and a coat and walked out of his hotel room. There had to be a court to play on somewhere in Toronto, right? He had to stay in shape for the game against the Bulls the next day; their backcourt combo of Heinrich and Gordon would be tough to stop. Playing in a pickup against some no-name players from Toronto isn’t exactly the same thing, but at least it was practice.

The United Center. So much history, so much enthusiasm. This was definitely Chicago. Mike took a look around the stands at the ocean of red that filled the seats. It was absolutely astounding. Coach Jordan told Black he was thinking about starting him, although it wasn’t likely; he had also said that he would probably be playing a lot of shooting guard, with Duhon being as undersized as he is. The tip-off started as soon as these thoughts ended, and Washington won it. Black watched as a minute worth of game time only produced a 2-2 game – and 2 Caron Butler fouls. “Black, get in there and shut Chris down.” Mike nodded his head and trotted out onto the court after a deflected pass by the Wizards on the Bulls’ end of the court. He stood next to Chris Duhon, who was shorter than he expected, waiting for Chicago’s inbounds play to start.

“Break!” called Andres Nocioni from the sideline. The Bulls went in motion as Duhon set a pick for Heinrich. Mike tried to call it out, but his reaction was too late. Heinrich caught the pass and drove in past Gilbert Arenas, who was fighting through the pick. Black tried to stop him from behind, but even he, one of the fastest players in the league, couldn’t get there in time. Heinrich had scored the bucket with a layup, gliding right past Haywood.

After another failed Wizards possession, Heinrich drove past Arenas again – but this time Haywood wasn’t having it. He tried to go up for the block on Kirk, but the ball wasn’t what he hit. Haywood’s hand has made solid contact with Heinrich’s head. Whistles blew and benches flared, but Black could tell from the look on Haywood’s face it was an accident. No flagrant foul was called, but Heinrich had to be taken out of the game for the time being. Other than that, the quarter was uneventful for Mike; he scored 2 points and had 4 assists, including an alley-oop to Brendan Haywood, but Washington was still losing. With a minute left in the quarter, Black was pulled to put Butler back in. Mike just sat on the bench and watched, as the quarter ended with the Wizards losing 21-15 after the 1st quarter was up.

Mike sat for the beginning of the second quarter, and the middle, and the end. To his disappointment, he had not seen the hardwood since he had been pulled in the first. He had always let the coaches make the on-court decisions, though, so he did not say anything. The Wizards had battled back, taking the lead 31-29, but the Bulls went on a run led by the now-recovered Kirk Heinrich to take the lead again before halftime, 37-33. After the low-scoring quarter, the Wizards walked to their locker room, readying themselves for another long and painful halftime speech. Coach Jordan was talking, but Black wasn’t listening. He was worried about what he could do to help the team win this game.

Black was still sitting on the bench throughout the first couple minutes of the third, but was finally put back in when third string PG Antonio Daniels started to struggle. He got in and, Arenas back to the point and Black playing SG, guarded Ben Gordon tightly – he had watched him light up the Wizards for the last two and a half quarters and was determined to contain him. Jannero Pargo, the backup PG for Chicago, handed the ball off to Gordon. Mike forced him into a bad shot and got the outlet from Jarvis Hayes. He ran upcourt to start a 2-on-1 break – Black and Haywood vs. Pargo. Mike drew the defender towards him, and then threw up the oop to Haywood as he threw down a powerful dunk. “That’s right, that’s right!” Haywood said, exchanging a high-five with Black while running back to the Bulls’ basket to play defense. After another bad shot and an outlet from Jeffries, Mike was all alone in the open court with Pargo. Just one move to get by him. He started, then he was laid out on the floor like a quarterback being punished by a 300-pound linemen. Pargo leaned down, got right in Black’s face, and whispered, “Welcome to the NBA, rookie.” Black was taken out for the last minute of the quarter to catch his breath. The Wizards narrowed the lead down to 2, with the score at 55-53. A brief fourth quarter speech came from Coach Jordan: “Get out there and kick ass!”

Black came back in for the fourth because Heinrich had too, and with Arenas guarding Heinrich they needed Black to shut down Gordon. Black was the leading the point with Arenas at the two this time, and before he even had a chance to call a play he saw Haywood backcut right past his man, so he did what he’d been doing all night; he threw up an oop to Haywood, their third connection of the night. The crowd quieted down and this sparked a run by the Wiz to get themselves ahead, and Black held Gordon to only 3 points – a FG and a free-throw – during the quarter. When the Bulls started fouling with a minute left, Black was pulled to put in their top free-throw shooters, and was greeted with high-fives and ass-slaps when he got back to the bench. He sat back and watched with a smile as the Wizards beat the Bulls by 12 to bring their record to 2-0.

Nice story! Makin' me want to create my own player story now (Y)

Tue Feb 14, 2006 1:20 pm

nice story...

black could be possible roy candidate....

Tue Feb 14, 2006 1:51 pm

A GOAT dynasty. Interesting. I had a similar dynasty back in 05. Main difference was that it was of my fictional self and updates were in the form of diary entries. And the writeups weren't as long. I relied more on pictures. Good luck with this. Nice writing, at least that parts that I've managed to read. (I'm not a big dynasty reader, I mostly just check out the graphics)

Tue Feb 14, 2006 4:16 pm

Very nice man... Makes me want to do one of these... LOL

Pargo leaned down, got right in Black’s face, and whispered, “Welcome to the NBA, rookie.”

But isn't pargo shit? LOL

Tue Feb 14, 2006 9:25 pm

Yeah, but he still laid my ass on the hardwood

Tue Feb 14, 2006 9:32 pm

Good stuff, I like what you're doing. definitely one of my new favourite dynasties, just dont turn it into an emo 13 yr old girl bitching about dreams (a la Sit's dynasty  i still love you sit)

Tue Feb 14, 2006 9:57 pm

No, I'm planning to keep going with the adversity theme, but not 13 year old adversity :)

Tue Feb 14, 2006 10:01 pm

Some controversy later on will spice up the story. Get into a fight with another player, commit a crime, rape a girl. You know, typical NBA Stuff  Or you could go the normal way with having family or relationship problems

Tue Feb 14, 2006 11:00 pm

if the story from Nov. 1 is true to your life, wow, that really sucks....bloody pigs (N)

either way, nice dynasty....

Wed Feb 15, 2006 7:03 am

yeah...

EDIT: No update tonight, busy with a girl.....

Things had been going great for Mike. He had just gotten in from Chicago and was rooming by himself in the team’s hotel in Orlando. It was only two games into his rookie year, but he’d been doing better than he ever thought. Things with his teammates were going smoothly, and it looked like for the first time in his life things had been going his way. He had even gotten a call from SLAM magazine where he had been told they might want to do an article on him if he keeps the play up. He was thinking about all this while trying to sleep when all the sudden the phone rang.

“Hey…” Mike said into the phone wearily. It was midnight for God’s sakes.
“Yo Mike! It’s Marcus.”

Shit. Shit, shit, shit, and more shit. Marcus was Mike’s old marijuana dealer, but he hadn’t seen him since his senior year in high school. He’d gotten himself off of the stuff, but he couldn’t imagine what Marcus wanted now.
“Marcus, I told you, I don’t smoke anymore.”
“Yeah, well I figure now that you rich and famous and everything, you could afford some of the good stuff. I’m out now, so I’m back!”
“Out?”
“Hell yeah, I was in the penn for 4 years, but now I’m out. So what ‘bout the weed?”
“I can’t. You saw what that shit did to me before.”
“It won’t happen again!”
“Bye Marcus.”

Mike hung up the phone and laid back in his bed slowly, sure now that he wouldn’t be able to get any rest for the game tonight. Marcus didn’t give up that easily.

nice story so far.... one of my favs for sure

Fri Feb 17, 2006 2:20 pm

this is great! after the first game you just need to make sure that not all of his games are so dam good, or it will become too unrealistic.
lower the steal slider too... (Y)

this is a great read

Fri Feb 17, 2006 2:46 pm

Great story!
Would be better if you tried to keep it more realistic...like more struggles for the rookie rather than just instantly becoming the 6th man and shaming Arenas, an all-star.

Fri Feb 17, 2006 9:40 pm

I'm planning on it, just need to play the second game. I don't know if I can get an update in tonight....BTW GameFAQs deleted my topic for this story (I was posting it there too) and they will [i]not[i/] bring it back. It's pissing me off!

Maybe they're racists and Mike Black took it too far for them?
But your real name is Kenny McCormick right? :cheeky:
Nice stuff here, but I think you already noticed people like it.

Fri Feb 17, 2006 9:48 pm

Actually I think I posted MCKormick, which is a lot closer to my real name than Black...
