lol I'm going to be starting Lue. I like having Johnson at the two, and this way Williams can come off the bench for some added umph. I don't know though, I'll try it.

Hawks Attempt to Squeeze
a Win Against Former Finalists

Atlanta Hawks (2-0) @ Detroit Pistons (2-0)

[07/06/05, Detroit] - After coming back from a hard year, which included losing to the Spurs in the Finals, the Detroit Pistons are entering this one with an identical record to the Atlanta Hawks. One of these teams will have a loss after this game, and if Detroit has any say in it, it will not be them. Rasheed said before the game that they're coming into this one to "draw blood and show everybody that [they are] still the best."

Hawks Suffer a Blowout
The Hawks' hopes were high coming into this game. Having a great start to their season, and as much momentum as they have had in quite a while, one thing was for sure, they were pumped.

This positive atmosphere, however, was crushed immediately. The Pistons came out like a team posessed, dropping 40 points in the first quarter alone, outscoring the Hawks by 16 (they had 24 points). They didn't let up in the second either, scoring a whopping 41 while the Hawks dropped a mere 25.

"I'll admit that this year's Pistons team is something to gawk at," said Coach Woodson, "any team that can come out and drop 81 in the first half should most definitely be a shoe in for the championship." He admitted that the Hawks' defense wasn't spectacular either, but regardless, he feels they aren't at the Pistons' level just yet.

The Player of the Game honours went out to Rasheed Wallace, who scored 43 points, grabbed 15 boards, and had 3 steals for the night. If 15 boards isn't enough 8 of them were offensive. Ben Wallace also came out of the game with a double-double, scoring 13 points, and getting 11 rebounds.

Despite being blown out of the arena, the Hawks never ceased to play, as Al Harrington was their high man with 26 points, and 8 boards. He was followed by Joe Johnson (23 points, 5 assists), and Josh Smith who had 18 points, and 7 rebounds.

"This was definitely a game to put things into perspective," said Johnson after the game, "if we want to contend, we're going to need to work better as a squad." The Pistons out-rebounded the Hawks by 22 (47-25), and out-assisted them by 10 (23-13). Detroit's defense was also excellent, as always, as they forced 16 turnovers and only committed 7, but what surprised everyone was their offense. They played the fast break flawlessly and had an unbelievable amount of second chance points (they picked up 24 offensive rebounds).

This definitely wasn't what Hawks fans were hoping to see here tonight, but have faith and catch the next match on the 10th, when they face off against the Hornets. This was your game recap. Over and out.

Game Highlights
Josh Smith with the dunk
Tyronn Lue nails the contested jump shot
Al Harrington battling inside
Rasheed Wallace with the tricky shot
Ben Wallace with the huge block
Joe Johnson hits the reverse layup

Hawks Try to Recover from Tough Loss

New Orleans/OK Hornets (0-0) @ Atlanta Hawks (2-1)

[Starting Lineups] [New Orleans Boxscore] [Atlanta Boxscore]

Left: Desmond Mason drives it home, Right: Al Harrington makes sure it goes through the hoop

[07/10/05, Chicago] - Lead by Joe Johnson, who is off to a monstrous start to his first season with the Hawks, this Atlanta team is looking rather promising, and this next competition against the Hornets leaves much opportunity for another win to get them a 3-1 record in their first four. This will most definitely be close one, and an entertaining one as well.

Hawks Seize the Opportunity
In a surprise game by point guard, Tyronn Lue, the Hawks managed to zip by the New Orleans Hornets to warrant them three wins for the season, and only a single loss. The six foot guard out of Nebraska university picked up player of the game honours, scoring a whopping 30 points, 8 assists, and 3 steals, while shooting 73% from the field.
"This was just my night," said Lue, "I couldn't believe the kind of shots I was hitting. It was... unbelievable." Tyronn went a jaw dropping 5/5 from beyond the arc, giving his team the extra umph to stay in the game. After the game, Harrington told reporters Lue's performance was "the type of performance every player strives to have at least once in his career."

Tyronn Lue, however, was also backed up by all star Joe Johnson who scored 27 points, and teammate Al Harrington who also had a spectacular game, scoring 29 points, picking up 11 boards, and dishing 2 assists to boot.

For the Hornets, although Chris Paul was contained (he scored 14 points, and only had 4 assists), the Hawks failed to slow down their two highflyers, J.R. Smith, and Desmond Mason, who scored 27 points and picked up 5 assists, and scored 27 points and grabbed 6 rebounds respectively, both had huge nights.

As far as team play went, it was relativelt even. The Hawks were out-rebounded 41-33, while they managed to out-assist the Hornets 20-15. As far as 3 pointers went, however, the Hawks dominated completely, mainly due to Lue's outstanding performance. They shot 6/9, while the Hornets shot only 1/11 (9%).
"One place we need to really work at is crashing the defensive boards," said Woodson after the game, "they killed us on second chance points, and I think that's why we were blown out by Detroit. We need to rebound better." The Hornets had 18 offensive boards, as opposed to the Hawks 25 defensive boards. The final score was 120-112 for the Hawks.

Well, that was your recap of game four for the season, folks. Hope you enjoyed it, and catch the next matchup on the 13th, when the Rockets come to Atlanta to try and steal a win.

Game Highlights
Josh Smith gets the jam
Mason throws it in
Smith finishes on the allyoop from Tyronn Lue
The Hawks executed wonderfully on offense tonight

Marvin Williams to be Traded?

Image Image
Image Image

There have been a couple of rumors floating around the Mill that Atlanta may be throwing their newly acquired rookie on the Trading Block. Nothing is guaranteed as of yet, and so this may just be something floating about. We don't even have any word of who they may be looking at, or what team they may be talking to.

Marvin Williams has talent beyond words and potential that is truly through the roof, so we fgure he'll be going at a decent price. This 6'9, 230 pound forward out of Bremerton, Washington was nothing less than a superstar in his highschool years. In his senior year, he averaged 28.7 points, 15.7 rebounds, 5.0 blocks, and 5.0 assists a night at Bremerton High, earned McDonalds and Parade All-America honors, and was a two-time all state selection and the Washington Player of the Year by Associated Press.

Although we don't know much, here are a couple of possible trades that the team and myself have thought up:

Luol Deng (Chicago): Deng has developed into a key player for the Bulls, and his inside presence, as well as his ability to shoot the ball from anywhere on the court make him a great player. There are two problems with this trade. One is that it is somewhat of a short term solution, as many people feel Marvin Williams will develop into a monster, and two, he doesn't have the defensive presence that the Hawks coach, Mike Woodson talked so much about in the preseason. As far as this trade actually happening, I'd give it a mere 2 out of 5.

Mike Dunleavy (Golden State): Mike Dunleavy is a solid shooter from both inside and outside of the three-point arc. He also has height, standing at 6'9, and amazing speed for his seize. These two things together make for a very lethal all around player. To add to this list, he is only a third year player, meaning he has a long career ahead of him, and a lot of room to improve. Although he is a great offensive threat, he doesn't contain that highly praised lock down defense. As far as this trade goes, I'd give it a 3 out of 5.

Chris Paul (New Orleans): This is the most interesting of the trades. Chris Paul seems to have exactly what Atlanta needs: defense, shooting ability, potential, and leadership. To have Chris Paul added to the arsenal of Johnson, Harrington, Smith, and Pachulia, would definitely make them one hell of an offensive threat, and likewise on defense. There isn't much else to say about this trade. (I would give it a 4 out of 5.)

If any readers have any recomendations or thoughts on who you would like the Hawks to acquire for Williams, send it in folks. This was an article from your Rumor Mill at the Atlanta Hawks website. Over and out.

Nice win (Y) I like the 2nd trade.

Thu Jan 19, 2006 9:28 am

Dunleavy sucks, he won't do anything for ya. :P I think Paul is the best deal, since that's who the Hawks should have drafted in the first place. But I don't think it's fair to take him from NO. :P

Thu Jan 19, 2006 9:32 am

haha at least they should get a new CF for williams.

i say go for teh paul trade you now, cause he fills that hole and guard and u can say bye bye to lue, who isnt much good anyways

Yeah. I think to trade for Paul is too blockbuster'ish too early... Dunleavy is a possibility.

I agree. He's basically their identity. With Williams they'll be lost.

That was originally my plan, as I only have, what, Batista and Edwards off of the bench ( :x )? My first idea was Eddy Curry but his contract is about double that of Williams', or Griffin who is around the same rating, but I don't think he's really worth it.

jugs wrote:Good win against the Hornets. Try and get Shaq

lol Give Williams 3 years and he'll be better than him  Besides, I couldn't get any 85+ players without depleting my scorers which I need.

harrington or pachulia for paul

The Hawks are already weak enough inside, to get rid of Harrington or Pachulia would really put me in a hole.

Atlanta Meets the Red Texans

Houston Rockets (2-0) @ Atlanta Hawks (3-1)

[Starting Lineups] [Houston Boxscore] [Atlanta Boxscore]

Left: One of Yao's 6 blocks for the night, Right: The Rockets played a great first half

[07/13/05, Atlanta] -Tracy McGrady (averaging 22 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 6 assists for the season) and the Rockets are looking better than ever this year, adding scorer, Stromile Swift to their ranks to give them an extra offensive boost. Yao Ming is also looking great so far this season, averaging 26 points, 8 boards, and 5.5 assists. Atlanta will definitely struggle against this high octane Houston club, and you know what they say. If you can't take the heat get out of the kitchen. Let's hope the Hawks brought some sunglasses.

Atlanta gets the Upset
The fourth quarter was quiet, calm, and most of all, controlled by the Hawks. Salim Stoudemire (18 points, and 3 assists), one of the best free throw shooters from the draft, dribbled the ball just past half court, killing time. There was under a minute to go. Wesley was forced to foul him, resulting in two calmly made free throws, and a 10 point lead (104-94). A long jumper my T-Mac that connected with nothing but net dwindled the lead to 8. Another intentional on the inbound and Salim was on the charity line once again. 2 more free throws, two more points, thus reinstating the Hawks' 10 point lead. A miss by Yao concluded the game, as Johnson killed the clock until the final buzzer rang throughout the arena. However, it was drowned out by the roar of the crowd, as they had just witnessed perfection. Even Mike Woodson agreed, as he concluded that "this was probably one of the best games [he's] ever seen this club play."

"I remember when I took my first three tonight," said Stoudemire, "and it went in... it just felt right, and so I kept putting up shots, and they kept feeling right." The rookie had the best game of his career tonight, and so did Marvin Williams, who put up 11 points and five boards. Also to add to the list of ship-shape performances was that of Al Harrington, who scored 22 points, grabbed 8 rebounds, and clocked 1 steal all the while shooting 75% from the field (9-12), that of Tyronn Lue, who scored 15 points, and dished 4 assists, and that of Josh Smith, who scored 12 points, and picked up 5 boards.

For the Rockets, Tracy McGrady was the high man with 40 points, 5 boards, and 4 steals. He was trailed far behind by the likes of Yao Ming, got a double-double with 18 points, and 10 boards. The All Star center also ticked 6 blocks to add to his stats.

Something the Hawks managed to do tonight that they haven't been able to do often all season was out-rebound their opponent (tonight they had 36 as opposed to the Rockets' 32). Johnson told press after the game that they "had control because [they] didn't let Yao dominate the boards." ne thing, however, that has been nibbling away at Atlanta is their lack of inside presence, as they were out-blocked 9-1 tonight. As for shooting, the Hawks came out over the Rockets shooting 51% (45-88) FG, and 44% (4-9) from beyond the arc.

For those of you that caught the game, good for you, and for those that didn't, you missed one hell of a show. This was your recap, so you better get the next one when our Hawks play the Raps at home. Over and out.

Game Highlights
Salim Stoudemire gets the off balance shot to go down
Al Harrington gets his points in the block
Josh Smith with his nightly posterization
