Jazz Escape in a Thriller
With just under a minute to go in the 4th quarter the Jazz looked to have their first loss of the season. The Suns had the ball with a 110-115 lead and the Jazz fans started to file out of the arena only to miss out on a great Utah comeback. Chris Paul came up with a steal and an assist to a Gordan Giricek layup to bring the Jazz back within three. Shawn Marion inbounded the ball and Chris Paul jumped out in front of the pass to steal it away and lay it in plus a foul, Jazz down by just one point with 40 seconds to go and Paul at the line for one more and he sinks it, tied ballgame. Phoenix calls a timeout.

After the timeout, Phoenix imbounds the ball to Steve Nash and they pass it around trying to shed time off the clock. With just two seconds left on the shot clock Marion has to pull up the long three-pointer and it rattles out to the left right into the hands of Steve Nash and he backs it out to run the clock out and with about 12 seconds left on the clock Nash gets double-teamed and is forced to throw a bad pass to which Yao Ming picks him off. Yao takes a few steps and signals for the timeout, 30-second timeout for Utah to get a plan together with just 7.6 seconds left in the 4th quarter.

Gordan Giricek imbounds the ball to Chris Paul and Swift posts up Kurt Thomas down low and Chris Paul gets it down to him with just five seconds left on the clock. Stromile is immediately penetrated by the Suns defense and he tosses it out to Chris Paul with a few seconds left and Chris Paul pulls back with a fadeaway three-pointer over Nash at the buzzer and he drains it for the Utah win.

Paul responded in a post-game interview about the shot with 0.8 seconds left on the clock "The original plan was for Stromile to get the easy two or get fouled in the act but he surprised me with his great pass and got the ball to me and I almost didn't know what to do with it as Nash was right there ready to block my shot, but I forced my body away and threw up a prayer and watched the shot go right through the net, it was the biggest shot of my basketball career. I'm still shaking from the pure excitement of the final minute of the 4th quarter, it was a thrillride".

Trades Becoming a Trend in Utah

Five Jazz players are no longer in Utah uniform after two trades with Golden State and Phoenix went down.

Al Harrington, Al Jefferson, and Matt Harpring were sent to Golden State for Troy Murphy, Mike Dunleavy, and Derek Fisher.

The Jazz pickup Phoenix's Jimmy Jackson and Boris Diaw and giveup young guns Devin Brown and Gordan Giricek.

Fans Have Mixed Reactions
We all knew the Jazz needed to change SOME things to become successful but could the new owner/general manager be trying a little too much this early on in the season? Mr. Workman was questioned on this very topic on ESPN's Budweiser Hot Seat:

Mike Greenberg: Trevor Workman, welcome to the Budweiser Hot Seat. Let's get right to it. When Larry Miller announced his resignation from the Utah Jazz you were appointed as the new owner and you said you were going to change a few things. Why make so many moves this early on?
Trevor Workman: I'm a risktaker, simply put it that way. I know I've probably lost a lot of supporters by getting rid of Kirilenko, Okur, and Deron Williams, but I'm not here to make friends. I'm here to bring the NBA championship to the wonderful city that is Salt Lake City and before I can accomplish that goal I'm going to make some risky decisions because this is a business and all businesses must take risks.

Mike Greenberg: Deron Williams was traded over to the New Orleans Hornets along with Mehmet Okur. Were you upset when the team drafted Williams instead of Paul?
Trevor Workman: You know, I like Deron, I think he's going to be a great player in this league, but there's something about Chris Paul that I really liked, maybe it was everything. I wish Deron and Mehmet the best of luck in New Orleans.

Mike Greenberg: Will the Jazz trade anymore players anytime soon?
Trevor Workman: Actually, I'm discussing a deal with the Pistons. (Laughs) No, I plan to keep the roster the way it is for a while.

Mike Greenberg: Who is the better coach, Larry Brown or Phil Jackson?
Trevor Workman: Phil.

Mike Greenberg: Are you for or against the new dress code policy?
Trevor Workman: For it, professionals need to look professional, there are young ones watching and looking up to them all the time and we don't need to give them the wrong impression.

Mike Greenberg: How often do you get your hair done?
Trevor Workman: Have I ever had my hair done? (Laughs)

Mike Greenberg: Who has a bigger ego, Terrell Owens or Ron Artest?
Trevor Workman: T.O., hands down.

Mike Greenberg: Will the Jazz be a playoff team this year?
Trevor Workman: Yes.

Mike Greenberg: Trevor Workman, you are off the Budweiser Hot Seat.

I like the Phoenix and Jazz trade but not the Warriors one. I think you should of kept that front court that you had with Al Harrington and Jefferson but thats just my opinion.
Great Dynasty, keep up the good work (Y)

Jazz Continue to Win
Though the throwback New Orleans Jazz jerseys weren't very attractive, the chemistry between the Jazz players was top-notch tonight vs. the Nets, leading by as many as 22 points in the 3rd quarter. Vince Carter pulled out 20 of his 31 points in the 4th quarter but wasn't nearly enough to beat the Jazz.

Vince Carter's game-high 31 points wasn't enough to stop the Jazz.
