Three Game Recap
Three first three games of this season were good tests to see how far the Knicks are as a team. Opponents were respectively Detroit, Golden State and Minnesota. Every week we will have Larry Brown writing his impressions of the last 3 games.

Coach Brown's Week
Hello there Knicks (and NBA) fans, the season has finally started. After working very hard with this team in the off-season, I was really anxious to see how far we are compared to the other teams.

NYK vs. DET - Detroit visited us and that was a good test for our guys. Of course I know the Pistons team very well, they are even deeper this year so I think they will be a title contender once again. The game was a pretty tough one and the refs didn't completely had it under control, as both Curry and James got banged up and had to leave the game. Post-game evaluation showed they were alright, but we already had to do it without them in this game. Channing Frye stepped up like a veteran, he's someone I'm very content of.
Presonally, I really had liked to beat these Pistons, but at this time of the season we can't handle a top 5 team like Detorit yet.
ImageImage
Left: Frye was good, rebounding between the Detroit big men, not the worst rebounders in this league.
Right: Rasheed was almost unstoppable in the paint, but he also stepped out and hit the mid-range shot a couple of times.

[NBA TV BOXSCORE - PISTONS AT KNICKS]

NYK at GSW - A team that finished last season on a really positive note, the Golden State Warriors are expected to finally make the playoffs again this year.
The team played very good ball at times, but the Warriors had a man in shape in Mike Dunleavy. Only finishing with 9 points, Dunleavy timed those 9 pretty good as he went on a personal 9-0 run at the start of the 4th. I guess he was just feeling it all of a sudden. That's the main reason we lost, pretty much.
What I noticed from this Knicks team is that they are so unselfish. Everybody on this team is sharing the ball and no one is trying to get 30 points every time out there.
ImageImage
Left: Dunleavy celebrating his excellent early fourth quarter plays.
Right: Stephon Marbury cutting inside and drawing the contact from Baron Davis. He often used his speed this game to blow past the slower Davis.

[ESPN BOXSCORE - KNICKS AT WARRIORS]

NYK vs. MIN - We did not really know what to expect from Minnesota. They weren't really elite last season but a team with Garnett is always dangerous.
As opposed to the first two games, we got off to a solid start this time grabbing an early lead and it proved to be decisive as we managed to hold on to that lead the complete game. We had been up by 20-something but won by 8, that's probably because I gave the young guys some more time in this one while Minnesota still played with KG and the other starters.
Ariza went down with a sprained thumb this game and will be injured for a while. That's not really good news, since he was playing very good as our main backup for the swingman positions.
ImageImageImage
Left: Crawford has learnt a lot from Brown already, he clearly improved his shot selection and seems more comfortable handling the ball.
Middle: Ariza with the sweet finish on the Marbury alley-oop. Ariza will be out with an injury for around 2 weeks, Matt Barnes will be activated off the injured list.
Right: Garnett got his 30 points but the Knicks were able to tone down the rest of the Wolves.

[NBA TV BOXSCORE - TIMBERWOLVES AT KNICKS]

Current Record: 1-2 (10th in the East)

Thank you for reading this Knicks update, I will be back reporting the next 3 games. Hope you all will be with me next time again. Hopefully we can get a positive record soon and keep improving from there.
See you next time!

Yours sincerely,

I see you had trouble with Detroit as well....I guess it's the lack of boardwork from the Knicks' big men....keep perservering though and train up that boardwork and it should hopefully improve....

nice pics....

Good recaps as usual, mr. cklistie. Pictures were good and the NBA tv boxscores are pretty cool as well. Nice touch by adding Larry Brown's signature at the end as well.

Three Game Recap
Next three games on the schedule were all away games, in respectively Utah, Indiana and Oklahoma City. Should be at least two wins for the Knicks (which would mean a record at .500).

Coach Brown's Week
Welcome back Knicks (and NBA) fans! This was a pretty tough week, but the team's hard work payed off and we're over .500 now! I didn't think we would beat Indiana so early in the season yet, but the guys got a lot of motivation out of the blowout that we had in the Salt Lake City.

NYK vs. UTAH - Of course every game is a test, but against a weaker Utah, I was wondering how the team would do. Jerry Sloan is an excellent coach, no matter what kind of players you give him, he'll sort it out and make it work.
This game it all went our way though, we completely blew out the Jazz. The starting five got off to a quick start and the bench didn't let them down.
In these type of games, I'm going to play the young guys that we have a little more. Too bad Ariza was injured (the whole week by the way). Channing Frye showed great potential though, he notched 16 points off the bench. All in all, a very easy win, which meant a 2-2 record.
ImageImageImage
Left: Although he is aging, Penny still got enough off his jumping ability left to deliver this jam.
Middle: Kirilenko is basically the only star on this year's Jazz squad. This games he also had to fill the whole stat sheet for his team, but he couldn't keep them in the game.
Right: Q-Rich has been playing excellent for the Knicks. He's lead the team in scoring on multiple occasions and went back to his Clippers playing style.

[ESPN BOXSCORE - KNICKS AT JAZZ]

NYK at IND - Definately a championship candidate this year, I did not get my hopes up too high for our game in the Conseco Fieldhouse. Most of the time, teams leave this arena empty-handed and we are only a team in the building stages.
We competed from the start though and didn't fell behind by more than 2 points. Once again our bench was an important factor in this game and we held on for the 117-113 win, kind of an upset if you ask me.
ImageImageImage
Left: Hardaway showed flashes on the 90s Penny again, he had 6 assists of the bench including this lob to Frye for the alley-oop.
Middle: Jermaine O'Neal did not have a great game, but still gave his team his usual contributions.
Right: Not only has Richardson been playing great for the Knicks, he also delivers a Sportscenter play every now and then, like this windmill jam.

[NBA TV BOXSCORE - KNICKS AT PACERS]

NYK vs. NOH - After two well-deserved wins, we had no problems with the lowly Hornets. We just did what we had to do, beat them.
It was a pretty ugly game, I got kind of annoyed by the refs.
The weren't calling the fouls how I wanted, they got away with anything. I saw myself back on tape and I regret my behaviour, but I still think the refs failed to do their jobs correctly. I'll stop discussing this now, I already got fined after the press conference.
Just like in the Jazz game, I tried to play the younger guys some more today. Frye did great but I kind of got used to that from him. Nate Robinson convinced me he can make it in this league too. Everybody was all hyped about him because he's such an amazing athlete, a 5"9 guy dunking is pretty special. But as a coach I look at very different aspects, defense, team game, shooting. He did well and we got the win.
ImageImage
Left: PJ Brown had an unusual game, dominating the boards and even scoring at will in the paint. Somebody has to step up though with their lack of stars and the absence of JR Smith.
Right: Nate Robinson finally had a good game against the Hornets, he also pleased the bangwagoners (and general NBA fans) with a great dunk.

[NBA TV BOXSCORE - KNICKS AT HORNETS]

Current Record: 4-2 (4th in the East)Orlando is 3rd, because they lead the Southeast Division with a .625 record.

Thank you for reading this second Knicks update, as usual I will be back reporting the next 3 games. Hope you all will be with me next time again. Let's try to continue the winning ways and stay above .500.
Hope to see you around!

Yours sincerely,
