Wizards fourth quarter run blasts off the Magic
With the series tied at 1-1, the Wizards were comfortable to played in front of their home crowds. More than 23,000 fans gave the Wizards supports as the Wizards never looked back and defeated the Magic in Game 3 of the best of 5 games series. Jerry Stackhouse and Michael Jordan, the Wizards duos combined for 56 points where they both scored 32 points and 24 points respectively. Jerry Stackhouse was doing his usual offensive attacks, as the Wizards had no answer for him. On the other end, Michael Jordan who scored only 8 points in Game 2, he was very aggressive on the offensive ends as he went to the free throw lines 12 times and made all of them. Magic guard Darrell Armstrong again committed two quick personal fouls in the first quarter and picked up his fourth fouls with 1:20 remaining in the third quarter. Tracy McGrady also played in foul trouble as he got his fourth personal fouls with 26 seconds left in the third quarter. McGrady finished the game with 18 points on 6 of 17 shootings. “I did not shot the ball well tonight, I did not provide enough contribution to my team,” said McGrady. Gordon Giricek and Pat Garrity both scored 16 points and 14 points correspondingly.
While the Magic was struggling on their offence, Shawn Kemp was backed in his top form as he played like the old Kemp himself. Kemp showed no fear on the opposition as he finished the game with 23 points on 10 of 13 shootings, 15 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals and 1 block. Kemp was not a factor in the first quarter as he only had 4 points and 2 rebounds. But in the second quarter, he was playing like the way during his Sonics careers. Kemp showed his aggressiveness rebounding and hitting shots after shots. Kemp was a force as he had 9 points and 7 rebounds, 3 on the offensive end. Kemp continued his outstanding plays in the second half as he had 10 points and 6 rebounds. Kemp said, “I just felt good tonight, I mean I had a lot energy as I can feel that I can take control of the game when the game is on the line.”
In the first quarter, the Wizards quickly scored the first 6 points of the game as Stackhouse scored 10 points and Jordan scored 8 points, but the Magic was able to came back before the shootings of Giricek and Garrity. Garrity nailed 3 three points but the Wizards still leads 29-24 after one quarter. Shawn Kemp started the second quarter with a quick jumper over Kwame, Kemp never let the Magic down as he keeps the game closes throughout the first half. McGrady had a rough second quarter but he still managed to score 7 points with 3 perimeter shots. Steven Hunter banged in a 3 point shot to close out the first half but still trailed 53-50. The Magic continues their dominant plays behind McGrady and Kemp as they helped the Magic to take a comfortable 8 points lead with 2:00 remaining in the third quarter. Still, Stackhouse quickly bring back the Wizards to tie the game at 73. But the Magic had the last shot as Drew Gooden nailed a 20 foot jumper to close the third quarter with the Magic leading 75-73. With one final quarter remaining, Larry Hughes and Bryon Russell took over as they both hitting their shots after shots and made 15-6 runs with 2:26 remaining in the game. The Wizards outscored the Magic 31-21 in the fourth quarter. The Magic had no answer for them as they made 8 of 21 of shots in the final period. Doug Collins raised his hand up in the air as the time expired as the Wizards defeated the Magic 104-96. The Wizards leads the series 2-1. Game 4 is next in Washington.
