Game 9: San Antonio Spurs (5-3) @ Milwaukee Bucks (5-3)

TRUE CONTENDERS NOW?- Bucks Beat Great San Antonio Spurs Team, Look “For Real”
MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN- The San Antonio Spurs are expected to get deep into the playoffs and perhaps win the NBA Championship every year.
The reason for it is their 1-2-3 punch of Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, and Tony Parker, combined with their great set of role players like Bruce Bowen, Robert Horry, and Brent Barry. But after their blockbuster trade a few days ago, the Milwaukee Bucks are starting to look like a team that’s going to be very tough to beat come playoff time (should they make it, of course).

Led by Dwight Howard, Dwyane Wade, Nate Robinson, and a slew of quality role players, the Bucks ran up their regular season record to 6-3 with a narrow victory over the Spurs last night at the Bradley Center in downtown Milwaukee. Howard responded to the dreaded task of matching up against Duncan with an energy-filled 23-point, 13-rebound, 3-assist performance. Though Duncan shot an amazing 10-for-12

on his field goal attempts, for 20 points, Howard limited him to just 4 rebounds, and more importantly kept him in serious foul trouble. Duncan was only able to play for 21 minutes in the game.

In his second game with Milwaukee,
the Bucks faithful have already come to love Dwyane Wade. The electric shooting guard scored 24 points, had 4 assists, and played outstanding defense with 4 blocks and 4 steals. He struggled off the bat, shooting 1-for-8 in the first quarter while being hounded by Ginobili, but burst out with a 6-for-9 shooting performance in the 3rd.

Finally, pint-sized Nate Robinson played very big against the Spurs. He scored 20 points on 8-for-15 shooting, dished out 7 assists, and even hauled in 2 rebounds. After the Bucks shot an awful 21.4% in the first quarter, Robinson came to play in the 2nd. He was everywhere, pushing the ball with his great speed and quickness, and harassing his man on defense. His wild play led to his committing
8 turnovers  , which was far too many, but his overall production on the court was very positive for his team against the Spurs.

Milwaukee’s three main players each outperformed their Spurs counterpart: Ginobili was held to 10 points on 5-for-18 shooting, and Parker shot 4-for-12 en route to an 11 point night.

Despite all of this, the game still was close until the end. The Bucks tried to pull away as they took an 89-81 lead with 2:30 to play, but Bruce Bowen and Brent Barry hit consecutive 3-pointers, and Robert Horry tipped in a miss to tie the game at 89 just a minute later, with 1:13 left in the game. Howard got deep positioning and converted a short basket to put the Bucks up 91-89, and then Manu Ginobili’s answer rimmed off. Robinson sprinted down court for a layup, giving Milwaukee a 4-point lead with 13 seconds left. Barry connected again for 3, but the Bucks ran out the remaining ticks of time out on the Spurs to ice the win.
GAME NOTES
This game was the first for Bucks PG Beno Udrih since he was traded from the Spurs in the offseason for former Bucks starting PG Maurice Williams. Udrih finished with 3 points and an assist, while Williams had 4 points and 4 assists in limited minutes.
