man i usually get 100+ point games and i play on 9mins
To tell you the truth I can get 130+ points in the 12min quarter. But that just don't reflect the realistic game that the NBA play nowadays. So what I did was just slow the tempo down. The secret (may be not anymore) is to run some plays every possession; don't do a quarterback-pass-to-a-wide-receiver-touchdown dunk....that was just a fancy word for a fastbreak on every rebound; and PLAY some defense - very important!!!
The PLAYS for every possession is just there so we can get good looks at the basket (even though you could get every shot you want with almost any player); also run down the clock to 3 or 5 seconds left of the shot clock; and try to bait some fouls. You can be fouled (FYI: I max out my defensive and offensive foul settings) by just doing pump fakes, post up or backing down your opponents, or doing some free style while standing - NOT doing free style while dribbling! You can easily get more than 24 seconds off the clock for every possession with this strategy.
The Don't do fastbreak on every rebound is also there co'z, well basically we need to run down the clock. You can run the floor every now and then but just stop throwing like your on a Super Bowl. Push the ball if you are trailing by 20+ points, run the clock down when your ahead by 5+.
But the most important thing to remember is to play some defense. I know you said that you suck at this (I saw it on your website), but defense wins championship. Always force a turnover, don't force a steal and play defense with your feet. Pretty tough huh?!? But that what make my opponents score less than 100.
If you look at my box score, you'll see they get 20+ turnovers. Why? Because stupid EA Sports Artificial Intelligence keep on committing an offensive foul. If you run beside them or infront of them while they do a "free style" moves and press the charge button, 80% they will commit an offensive foul. If they back you down like Shaq or Webber, 90% they will call a charging foul, and 10% of that when you fall down the ground, try to quickly press the pass buttom to control your nearest teamate and then try to block his shot - 75% of the time you will block it. The important thing is to try to contest every shot, READ their offensive plays and DO double-team them. AI offensive strategy is very impressive with LIVE2003. They use low post, isolation and also they try to find the open man.
What I do with my defensive strategy against their offensive plays are simple. I use a Zone Defense if they are use a low post or driving to the basket moves, use Man to Man or Half Court Set when they are hitting me with 3-pointer or perimeter shots, and use Half Court Trap if they don't have a good point guard (i.e. NY, Indiana, Boston, Cleveland - sorry man!!, etc.).
One other thing, If you use this strategy, your team has to have a good Defensive Players. We all know that we can score, but playing defense, that's another thing. Look at my line up, I got Dennis Rodman running again. Even though he can't score (I can't even hit 1 free throw with 4-6 attempts, so weak!!), he's still my top defensive specialist in th team, along side Jordan, Quiroz, Haywood and Brown. Offensive rebounds is a top priority too.
So if you want to play a franchise mode that will get you almost a realistic scores and results, just run down the clock, run some plays; and run some defense. And if you can't get the hang of it, just PRACTICE man.
By the way, I'm playing PC CD version and using a keyboard. I'm planning to buy a game pad soon (NOTE: Anyone knows where I can buy a Logitech Rumble Pad in the Phillipines??? Pre, tulong naman.).
I'm using a tweak roster, DK's lineup and HoopCity's and my own tweak ratings. I forgot what computation I use but I started with HoopCity's ratings, and then I adjust it to be played in a franchise mode (so that the created rookies by the computer will not be that powerful). I also adjusted the ranking of the teams so they will be somewhat closer to the real NBA teams ranking.
I max out the fouls, CPU assist ON, All-Star level, Box Out option On, Crash the Board option Off and Arcade mode.
If someone wants to try my tweak roster version for franchise mode, tell me so I could post it up on the website.
Sure thing dude, that will be kwol!!!
