Tue Nov 03, 2009 5:04 am

Cartar, I just finished editing the positions and started the season in Live. First game is played (Suns), but the first game to be recapped, the Warriors, will be up some time tomorrow.

EDIT : Sorry, the first game is against the Jazz. My bad.

The Bucks won just 13 games last year and were 12th in the Eastern conference with that record. They had acquired Wilson Chandler in the start of the season and were 7-9. After a big, 6-player trade in February, the Bucks got stronger on paper, but finished the second half 6-7 and were far out of the Playoffs. They got the 11th pick in the draft and so couldn't draft any of the Top 10 prospects, who clearly isolated them from the rest of the prospects.

The Bucks do have some things to cheer about. Brandon Jennings has become a solid starting point guard, working with assistant coach Gary Payton throughout the season, mostly on offensive skills and defense.

Andrew Bogut is healthy and recorded 15 double-doubles last season, ranking him 4th in the league. He was also among league leaders in blocks per game, with almost 2.4 blocks per game.

Wilson Chandler became a bigger offensive threat when the season was starting to end, scoring over 20 in 3 occasions in the last 4 games.

So the Bucks added Kyle Korver, Rafer Alston and Andray Blatche to improve their bench. The starting 5 is expected to stay the same. The Bucks still have an open roster spot, which can be useful if an injury occurs.

Expected record : 14-15

The Bucks need Michael Redd to keep scoring. However, Redd is now 32. If the Bucks want to reach the Playoffs, they need a consistent 25 point a night from him.

Redd, however, has struggled with injuries over the last 4 years and if he goes down, they don't have a solid replacement. They did sign Kyle Korver to help off the bench, but there's no depth coming after him.

Redd has always been an important player for the Bucks. But now, with most of the other major pieces very young, he is the player the Bucks can't afford to lose.

Redd's 28 lead Bucks over Sky, Jazz.
10/30/10 - Bucks (117) - Jazz (112)

Jennings crossing over rookie Z Sky.

Michael Redd scored 28 points and dished out 7 assists as the Bucks won their second road game in a row over the Jazz.

The Bucks were trailing by 9 points after the first quarter, but used a strong second and third quarter play, outscoring the Jazz 72-50 in the 24 minutes and into the fourth with a 13 point lead.

Michael Redd scored just 2 points in the final period, but Brandon Jennings, who had been silent in the first three quarters, despite coming off a 28-point effort against the Suns, scored 6 points and dished 3 assists in the final period, before sitting down with Michael Redd, Wilson Chandler and Andrew Bogut.

The Bucks bench came in, who had scored 23 points in Phoenix, started strong as Kyle Korver hit a three-pointer over Andrei Kirilenko and Andray Blatche dunked over Carlos Boozer to put the Bucks up by as many as 19 points.

But the Jazz weren't out yet. Led by Carlos Boozer and Mehmet Okur, the Jazz came back. Deron Williams came in and managed a 17-2 run. The Jazz were everywhere. The run was finalized by Mehmet Okur, who grabbed an offensive rebound off a missed free throw and dunked the ball with power, drawing a foul on Andray Blatche. He made the foul shot.

With a 4 point lead and little 30 seconds to, Brandon Jennings came back in the game and hit his only three-pointer to put the Bucks up by 7. The Jazz were broken and with 20 seconds to go, didn't try anything. Rookie Jason Mobley scored two points with the final buzzer to set the final score.

Despite the bench's struggles in the final period, led by Rafer Alston and Andray Blatche, The Bucks' bench scored 33 points. The Jazz's bench, led by Deron Williams with 14, scored 22 points.

Andrew Bogut recorded his second double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Brandon Jennings finished with 11 points. Rookie Jason Mobley led the Jazz with 23. Carlos Boozer added 18-18 and Mehmet Okur scored 21. Z Sky scored 11 points on 4-12 shooting in his NBA debut.

Tirieux shines in NBA debut, Warriors beat Bucks.
10/30/10 - Bucks (88) - Warriors (103)

    Image
Thierry Tirieux put on a show in his NBA debut, scoring 31 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.

Thierry Tirieux had probably the best debut for a rookie in nearly 20 years, as he scored 31 points, grabbed 10 boards, dished 5 assists and didn't commit a single turnover as the Warriors beat the Bucks with ease, 103-88.

Andris Biedrins added 18 points and 4 blocks and Stephen Jackson had 21 points. All 5 starters scored in double figures for the Warriors.

Andrew Bogut led the Bucks with 20 points and 9 rebounds. Hakim Warrick and Kyle Korver added 15 a piece. Michael Redd and Brandon Jennings both struggled, combining to shoot 9-27 from the floor. Both scored 11 points, Jennings had 8 assists as well.

The game was pretty much decided after the first half. The Bucks scored just 39 points and were trailing by 10 points. That gap even grew with the next 12 minutes and the Bucks were down by 15 points.

The Bucks tried to make a run in the fourth behind Kyle Korver's 3 threes in just 2 minutes, but the Warriors always had a response, mostly it was Tirieux.

Tirieux scored just 5 points in the final period, but they came on two consecutive possessions. The first was a three and the second a monster dunk on Hakim Warrick (Note picture above).

Tirieux's debut was expected to be good, but as great as it turned out to be. The game against the Bucks was their first game out of three in 5 days, followed by two weeks off. This will allow the young Argentinian to prove, this game wasn't just a one-time thing.

---------------------

Here are some of the best debuts by a 1st overall pick since the 1990-91 season :

Derrick Coleman, 1990: The Nets lost to the Pacers in Coleman’s first NBA game, but he posted 11 points, 12 rebounds and 3 blocks.

Shaquille O’Neal, 1992: Shaq turned the ball over eight times, but helped lead the Magic over the Heat with 12 points, 18 rebounds and 3 blocks. He would post double-digit rebounds in each of his games that November.

Chris Webber, 1993: Webber, fresh off his Final Four miscue, filled the stat sheet for Golden State in his first game. He had 15 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks in a loss to Houston.

Allen Iverson, 1996: A.I. was a hit from the start, scoring 30 points on nineteen shots in his pro debut with the 76ers. Philadelphia lost to Milwaukee, but Iverson’s scoring abilities were on display from Day One.

Tim Duncan, 1997: Duncan, immediately teaming with David Robinson to form the best interior tandem in the game, was spectacular in San Antonio’s season-opening win over Denver. He had 15 points and 10 rebounds, the first of many double-doubles.

Michael Olowokandi, 1998: It’s hard to imagine now, but ‘The Kandi Man’ had a very good debut for the Clippers ten years ago. He had 14 points and 6 rebounds in a very efficient performance, but L.A. lost to Phoenix.

LeBron James, 2003: LBJ’s debut, perhaps the most anticipated in recent years, was spectacular against Sacramento in October 2003. He had 25 points, 9 assists, 6 rebounds and 4 steals, but the Cavaliers lost and would go on to lose their first five games of the LeBron Era.

Dwight Howard, 2004: Howard had a terrific debut for the Magic on Nov. 3, 2004, posting 12 points, 10 rebounds, 4 blocks and 3 steals in a victory over the Bucks. He played 38 minutes for Orlando, six more than Rose did on Tuesday night.

Andrew Bogut, 2005: The Australian big man finished with 13 points, 9 rebounds and 3 blocks in Milwaukee’s win over Philadelphia. Bogut went 6-for-9 from the field.

Derrick Rose, 2008: The young point guard finished with 11 points, 9 assists, 4 rebounds and 3 steals in his debut, which resulted in a win against the Bucks.

First Rose and now Tirieux - great rookies lately sure like to destroy the Bucks, don't they?

Tough loss. It seems like you're pretty proud of Thierry Tirieux though. What is he rated? By the way, it says that you beat the Warriors 117 to 112 in the final score. You might want to fix that. :D
