The Cavs were fuelled by their inside-out tandem of LeBron James and prized off-season acquisition Shaquille O'Neal for the majority of the game. This was in contrast to the Raptors more well balanced Raptor attack where no one scored over 20 points. Former Trail Blazers Channing Frye and Antoine Heller paced the Raptors with 19 points apiece.
A barn burner right from the get go, the game seldomly had any swings in momentum with both teams keeping it relatively close. Both teams also received plenty of help from key X-Factors off the bench, as Rodney Carney and Wally Szczerbiak both provided an energetic punch in limited action. It was Carney however that managed to give the Raptors crucial minutes down the stretch, scoring 9 of his 11 points in the final 4 minutes of the game - including the the go-ahead three point play with 42.7 seconds left. "We had a really tough time handling their guards tonight," Cavaliers coach Mike Brown said. "Heller and Calderon both shot and passed the ball very well while Carney was too athletic for our defenders late in the game."

Channing Frye ended a great game as he welcomed rookie Walt Lue into the NBA by swatting the ball into the stands.Notes:-This entire week for the Raptors comprises of two back to backs as they travel to Milwaukee to play the Bucks tomorrow and then rematch the Nets and the Bobcats at the ACC.
-LeBron James is currently one of the MVP favourites with averages of 18.9 points, 8.3 rebounds, 5.3 assists.
-Wally Szczerbiak's 17 points off the bench is his season high thus far.

Even though the Raptors continued to get a solid effort out of newly acquired big man Channing Frye (18 points and 9 rebounds), the trio of former number one pick Andrew Bogut, ex-Raptor Charlie Villanueva and rookie Dominic Hunter all had double-doubles.
Raptors head coach Jay Triano was not only unimpressed about his team being out-rebounded 47-38, but also his team's failure to rotate defensively. "We looked scared out there," he said, referring to the Bucks' 50% shooting. "Not only did we allow them to out-hustle us on the boards but everytime they got the ball we panicked on the defensive end."
Despite a lacklustre shooting night for the Raptors, most of the team's offensive woes came from Jose Calderon and Andrea Bargnani. The usually efficient European duo combined for only 4 for 24 shooting and went 0 for 4 from beyond the arc. "We knew that coming into this game that they had a lot of offensive firepower," Bucks guard Michael Redd said after scoring a game-high 22 points. "As long as we stopped two of their important shot creators, we knew we could win this game."

Redd's fade-aways from mid range were too difficult to overcome. Notes:-The Raptors and the Bucks are currently jostling for the 9th spot in the Eastern standings, with the Raptors now sitting at tenth place.
-Michael Redd has the fifth highest points per game average at 19.7
-Bargnani's 1/9 shooting performance and season low 3 points is his worst outting this season.

19-19*Click on the logos for boxscoresRaptors on Cruise Control Against the Nets (103-84 Raptors)January 20, 2010It seemed like both teams were going to be in for a long night as Brook Lopez and Jose Calderon both had to leave the game early in the first quarter after a scary collision. Both players lay on the floor clutching their legs soon afterwards and were forced to sit out for most of the game. As a result, both teams were awful from the field in the opening quarter as the Raptors missed Calderon's playmaking ability while the Nets lacked Lopez's effective inside presence.
Fortunately for the Raptors, Antoine Heller managed to easily slide over to the point guard position which worked wonders for the Raptors offense. The rookie combo guard led a strong second quarter charge which saw him tally 6 of his game-high 8 assists and propelled the Raptors to a 57-47 lead by half-time. Andrea Bargnani was the recipient of many of those assists, scoring 13 points; 9 of which came from three three pointers. "This just shows you how versatile and deep this team can be," spoke Calderon of Heller's 12 point 6 rebound and 8 assist night. Both Jose and Lopez would both return to action in the third quarter as both players' injuries were thankfully revealed to be minor.
New Jersey dominated the offensive glass all game long with 20 rebounds on the offensive end, but struggled to capitalize on the Raptors' poor interior D. The Nets shot only 39% from the field despite all of their second chance points, and Rafer Alston crippled his team's offense with a disastrous 0 for 13 performance. "They were lucky to have caught so many breaks," said Nets rookie Dante Oliver after stuffing the stat sheet with a 12 point, 10 rebound, 3 steals and 3 blocks night. "With Brook hurt, our offense kind of fell apart."

Brook Lopez's early injury allowed the Raptors to take the early lead and never let it go.Notes:-The Nets are now 1 in their last 5
-The last time these two teams met was on December 17 when the Raptors lost 101-96.
-New Jersey's poor assist total this game (12) shows why they are next to bottom in the league in assists. Devin Harris averages 6.3 dimes per game to lead the Nets in that category.

20-19*Click on the logos for boxscoresRaps Edge Away with Steady Offense (93-86 Raptors)January 21, 2010Much like the Raptors' surprise victory over the Cavaliers this week, unselfishness was the name of the game for Toronto this game, as 6 players scored in double figures for the Raptors with none of them scoring over 20 points. Channing Frye and Antoine Heller paced the Raptors once again with 17 points each while Chuck Terrell followed closely behind with a 16 point 9 rebound effort. This enabled the Raptors to climb above .500 since December 9th.
"It was a pretty competitive game through all 48 minutes and we really pushed ourselves to play team basketball because of it," Heller said as he and Calderon combined for 15 of the team's 27 assists. The Raptors have been a very cohesive unit as of late, as evidenced from their 50% field goal percentage. However, they struggled to get their high tempo offense ignited as they allowed the Bobcats 15 offensive rebounds which helped mask Charlotte's shooting woes and keep the game close. "We were kind of slowed down to their pace because of all those offensive rebounds but when we did touch the ball it would always lead to an easy shot," Heller added.
The slower paced game also allowed Charlotte to attack the basket much more frequently, resulting in a plethora of free throws. The Bobcats shot 31 free throws, but once again their inability to hit shots cost them as they only coverted on 22 of those attempts. "I liked our energy and hustle, but the same can't be said for our shot taking and defense," said Larry Brown. "We can't compete at a high level if we're heaving up bricks on every attempt."

Martell Webster's smooth play running off screens helped Toronto off the bench.Notes:-Charlotte are currently losers of 6 straight games.
-The Bobcats are also the worst in the NBA at knocking down their shots, sitting at 41% as a team. It doesn't help when their starting shooting guard Dean Friedman shoots only 35% from the field.
-This marks the third time this season that Roko Ukic has logged 10+ minutes in a game. The Croatian guard previously logged 11 minutes of play in a loss against the Sixers on December 27.

Antoine HellerAlthough Chuck Terrell and Channing Frye are both just as deserving for the Raptor of the Week award, Frye has had one off game while Terrell would simply be a boring pick at this point. Heller on the other hand has shown great flashes of being the two gaurd that the Raptors have been coveting all season long. Simply put, the 6'6 guard has brought it all to the table this week and Heller has definitely raised expectations that are being set on him. Scoring punch? Check. Versatility? Check. Defense and hustle? Check. A walking ESPN highlight reel that can bring fans out of their seat? Check. Let's just hope that he doesn't hit the rookie wall late into the season because the kid definitely opened some eyes this week.
