Man, I am just so disappointed. We threw away the premiership today. For the thrid time this season, we could have put ourselves on top, and for the thrid time, we lsot by 3 points.

I'm not too angry about the loss. I'm disappointted but not too angry. Why? Cause I know I did my best. The story is, I played my usual 30+ minutes today. The difference? The rest of the team didn't want to pass to me.

So who threw away the game? Not me.

After the first half, we were up by 11. I had a few good passes; two behind the back passes and a pump fake and pass which led to 3 buckets. I didn't have any attempts to score though. And then in the second half, the other guys just wouldn't pass and it really made me feel shit. But I kept playign and did my part. No sabatage involved or anything. And then coach takes me off when we're up by 15 and then after 3 minutes, the other team is tying with us.

Despite everything that had happened so far, I come back on and nothings changed. What is really downright stupid of my so-called 'teammates' is that the other team (playing a press) passed me the ball and all ran away so that I would turn it over and go back to the bench.

After sitting out with 6 minutes left, we start losing by 7 and our bench goes on. With a minute left, Phil scored a bucket and coach was like, 'whoa, we could win.' Our starting five go back on. I forced their SG into a 5 second violation. We scored to make the margin 3. I forced their PG into a 5 second violation and we got the ball with 10 seconds left. What's my reward?

Answer: Looking like a retard cause I'm standing right infront of the inbounder who throws it at Phil who's being double teamed and turning over the ball.

So yes, it was one of our better games.. but shit happens. I'm glad the seaosns over and its not like I will be seeing most of the asian guys who really despised me by the end. I'm happy that I got through all of this without giving up because I took so much crap from those fags all season. In the end, we come third or second. We should have come first if it wasn't for my 'immature' teammates.

What makes it worse? The team that was supposed to lose if we had won, was losing in OT to the second worst team in the comp. (N)

Tough luck, pal. I've kinda been there with the "no passes from teammates" stuff. It really sucks. And as for the game, you can't win if don't play team ball so congratulations to your squad for throwing away the chance. I really feel sorry for you.

If there is an option, I'd change clubs.

Don't know if I can call it much of a consolation but we came second in the end cause the team we lost to by 3 points a few weeks ago dropped their game 55-54; to a team we beat by 40.

Ah well, award presentation in a week and a half. There's MVP and something called the coaches award up for grabs.

And Heiks, I'm never playing with those guys again lol. And this is for school basketball. I took a one year break from club this year because of studies.

Odom Optimized for Point-Forward?
Words: Rick O'Shea

Image

Last season was Lamar Odom’s second finest in his career. He averaged career highs in rebounding and field goal percentage and kept his scoring at his career average en route to a stat line of 15.2 ppg, 10.2 rpg and 47.3 FG%. Along with that, Odom slowly developed into a leader and someone for players to look up to in the locker room, other than Kobe Bryant.

This next season will be even more important for Odom who has been firmly entrenched into the position of vice-captain of the Lakers. He is the team’s second option on offence, and the player that the team is hoping will be its primary playmaker. “I’m confident that I can help shoulder the offensive load that Kobe took for us last year,” Odom told media at the Lakers’ training facility in Honolulu, “I’ve been learning how to play the (Point-forward) position from one of the greatest at it.”

The man whom Odom was referring to was Scottie Pippen. The six time NBA champion was lured to the Lakers’ training camp by Phil Jackson so that he could personally tutor the 6’10” Odom in the art of becoming a player like Pips was.

In Odom, the Lakers have a rare player with the set of skills that Pippin had owned as a player. Odom is a tall player who can handle the rock well for his size. His passing instincts are brilliant, he can score from inside and out while he has a great team player mentality. What Odom lacks is in his defensive skills, although he has developed into a very good rebounding small forward; maybe one of the best in the NBA, Odom’s on-ball defence needs further work. Along with that is Odom’s track record of injury issues that he endured through as a Clipper and returned during last season.

Team coaches are confident that Odom will shake off the injury bug as they see his development that may slow him down most. “Lamar can be a great player one day and I’m not saying he isn’t one but he has potential to become an All-star,” assistant coach Brian Shaw stated. Pippen who was impressed with Odom’s work ethic during training camp told reporters, “We’ve worked on his 1-on-1 defence and a lot of offensive moves to confuse defenders so he can dish the ball. This season, Lamar’s job is to get the ball to Kobe because of the double and triple teams that would occur if Kobe handled the rock. Lamar needs to be a distributor or both he and Kobe will struggle.”

The one memory of training camp that will stick in Kobe Bryant’s mind will be when Odom had made a perfect no-look pass but Odom became a bit too confident and tried to convert the behind-the-back pass that hit rookie Andrew Bynum in the head. “That pass was even too good for his teammates,” Bryant said, referring to the pass.

“I have faith in Lamar to get used to his new role and the team’s offence in time,” Phil Jackson stated, “I understand it will take time but I know he will do it. One of the reasons why I’m back is because I see something in him. I think he has a lot of potential.”

Introducing Your Lakers Rookies

17 | Andrew Bynum | C | 7’0” | 285 |

Andrew Bynum was the Lakers’ first round draft pick thanks to his potential. His size is rare in the world of basketball these days while his skills, although raw, show that he has pretty good basketball instincts. LA has had a history of great big men ranging from Mikan to Wilt and Kareem to Shaq. Bynum hopes to add his name to that list.

That’s why the Lakers went to the effort of bringing in the legendary top scorer of the NBA, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to help the young man. “I want to learn the sky hook,” Bynum anticipates, “It’s the most lethal weapon you could learn in the game of basketball.”

During preseason competition, Bynum fared fairly well although playing time was hard to find and although his season outlook may look slim, the future of his career looks a lot brighter in three or four years time.

23 | Von Wafer | SG | 6’5” | 210 |

Wafer, a former Florida State player is known for his flair. And that’s what the Lakers need in the prior season where the team lacked any passion and intensity on the defensive end of the floor. Wafer can shoot the rock well from all over the court and this may be a very important skill that will earn him time on the hardwood.

One of Wafer’s achievements that aren’t well known is that he came second only to LeBron James in the McDonalds’ All-American Slam Dunk contest. Wafer who attended college for two years was suspended for two games in his sophomore year that started controversy in the news. His reputation only worsened after he hit another player during a workout for the Phoenix Suns however, he was lucky that GM Mitch Kupchak was able to see Von at a workout later in the Summer.

Wafer will be spending a lot of time as a water boy for the Lakers. His future with the team really depends on how well he can shoot the ball from open spots on the floor.

11 | Devin Green | G | 6’7” | 210 |

Devin Green is an interesting player that the Lakers signed. After going undrafted, the former Hampton standout joined LA’s Summer League squad and spent time on the floor playing both guard positions. As the new season approaches, his spot on the roster is still doubtful although he has a good chance to make the team ahead of 11-year vet Corie Blount.

Thanks to Smush Parker, Green won’t be granted time at the PG and will probably play a backup roll similar to that of Von Wafer’s which means that he is to come onto the court as an energy player and to shoot the ball well. Green who was a 2-time All-MEAC performer and did well for Hampton in most of the scoring categories in College basketball, is an experienced player who may fit in faster short-term for LA than the two rookies stated above.

Green hasn’t played at all during this preseason and if he makes the cut, don’t expect much from him.
