The playoffs can be more unpredictable than the regular season
-----------------
The 2005 NBA Playoffs are here and if you thought the regular season had surprises, "you ain't seen nothin' yet", as some like to say.
Intensity is higher. Emotions are testier. Nerves are frayed a little bit more. The ball bounces funnier.
This leads to some interesting and unpredictable games, which in turn can lead to some unpredictable series.
Of course, people like to predict anyway. When will Paris Hilton get married? Will Rafael Palmeiro make it to the Hall of Fame? Will I ever go bald? You know, important predictions.
Since predictions are our business (that's our claim and we're sticking to it), I thought I'd throw a few more out there. I rounded up SAC-1 (the GM for the Sacramento Kings), cwebbiverson (the GM for the Philadelphia 76ers), and Colicky Boy (the rookie for the Chicago Bulls) and we asked them to do their best Carnac act and foretell the future of the first round of the 2005 NBA Playoffs. And no, I did not ask them to predict if I will go bald.
Here's what they had to say. May the best swami win.--------------

Tale of two halves

Stoudemire muscles his way for two

It was a tale of two halves.
The first half for the Bulls was reminiscent of their blowout loss against Indiana in the season finale and their lethargic win against the Magic in Game 1 of this opening round of the playoffs.
But the Bulls kicked it up a notch in the second half to steamroll the Magic 96-70 at the United Center. The Bulls now lead the series 2-0 as they travel to Orlando for the next two games.
"We got into a good flow in the second half," said Bulls head coach Scott Skiles. "We got good spacing, made our shots and got out on the break a couple times."
It didn't look so promising early on. Magic rookie forward Dwight Howard suffered an arm injury with 3:29 to go in the first quarter but the Bulls only led 21-15 after one. Howard returned to action with 7:06 to play in the second quarter and the Bulls still clung to their 6-point lead going into halftime.
Did Skiles say anything to the team in the locker room during halftime?
"Nothing that can be repeated here," laughed LeBron James, who had 19 points and a game-high 7 rebounds. "It actually wasn't a lot of yelling. More emphasizing what we were doing wrong."
Whatever was said must have worked.
The Bulls raced to a 17-point lead by the end of three before ending the game with the final 26-point margin. Amare Stoudemire, who finished with 28 points, had 16 points in the fourth quarter. Colicky Boy added 17 points while Dirk Nowitzki had 10 points.
"We wanted the home fans to enjoy the game," said Stoudemire. "We weren't playing so well early and they deserved to see better basketball."
Howard led Orlando with 14 points and 5 rebounds. Steve Francis, who scored 38 in Game 1, was held to 10 points tonight. Grant Hill also had 10 points for the Magic.
"They scored more in this game than in Game 1, but we scored the same as in Game 1," lamented Francis of his team's 70 points. "We have to score more, man. We'll only beat high school teams with 70 points."
After the game, the Bulls received word that tests on guard Dwyane Wade's wrist showed he would be cleared to play for Game 3 but not be at full-strength.
"We'll limit his minutes," said Skiles. "With a 2-0 lead, we can afford to do that."

Wade on the break

Game 3:95

ORLANDO - With a change of scenery, the Magic hoped some home cooking would help their fortunes.
The Magic played admirably but ultimately fell 95-84 at TD Waterhouse Center, giving the Bulls a commanding 3-0 lead in the series. Game 4 will be played Sunday.
Amare Stoudemire carried the Bulls with a game-high 33 points. Colicky Boy only had 14, LeBron James only 10 and Dirk Nowitzki only 6. Dwyane Wade, still bothered by a sore wrist, returned to action for the first time in three weeks and scored 11. The Bulls bench contributed 21 points.
"Our bench got some action and they played well," said Bulls head coach Scott Skiles. "I think everyone on our team scored."
The Bulls only led by 3 after one, and only by 4 at the half. But the Bulls pushed the lead to 11 after three and that's how the lead finished.
"We expected Amare to dominate," said James. "The Magic don't have an answer for him."
Doug Christie led the Magic with 19 points. Grant Hill added 18 but only 1 rebound and 1 assist. Steve Francis was held for a second consecutive game at 10 points after pouring in 38 in Game 1.
"We're doing a better job defending Francis," said Nowitzki. "We're putting a hand in his face a lot more."
But even the Magic sense the end of the line is near.
"Down 3-0 to the #1 seed," said Magic rookie forward Dwight Howard, who scored 12 with 7 boards. "means it's pretty much over."
