Bulls' Thomas Nabs MVP as Rookies Win Close One

    Rookies 124 | Sophomores 121

Chicago Bulls rookie forward Tyrus Thomas earned MVP honours in the 2007 NBA Rookie Challenge, finishing with 20 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists, to go along with 3 blocks. Thomas had an incredibly solid all round performance, leading the rookie team in assists, steals and blocks, while coming second on the team in scoring and fourth in rebounding. The rookies were lead by 21 points from a flashy Rudy Gay, who showed off more than his fair share of highlight reel worthy slams. The sophomore team was lead by a fantastic 35 point, 7 rebound performance from Indiana Pacer forward Danny Granger. The game was tightly contested from start to finish, neither team able to hold onto whatever short lead they earned. The rookies took advantage of the Sophomores seemingly uninterested demeanor on defence, as players like Rudy Gay and Tyrus Thomas took off for some monster slams while Marcus Williams and Adam Morrison lit it up from downtown. As the fourth quarter drew to a close, neither team could put up much of a lead on the other. Both teams when back and forth until the final two minutes, when Chris Paul and Deron Williams finally got the sophomore team clicking, resulting in a 5 point lead with just over a minute to go. However, a win was not to be. Rudy Gay attacked the defence fearlessly, puting up back to back baskets in a short span. As the sophomore team failed to convert on the other end, Tyrus Thomas found Marcus Williams for a big three ball to give the Rookies a one point lead. With less than 20 seconds to go, Chris Paul made a move on Marcus Williams, only to be blocked by Tyrus Thomas. Thomas leaked out on the break and recieved an outlet pass, finishing the break, and the game, with a monster one handed tomahawk jam.

Nicely done by the rooks and Tyrus Thomas, but you might want to fix this typo:

    Rookies 124 | Nets 121

Nice videos as well, but I liked the job you did on the write up even more since there's never any boxscores for any all-star games (a stupid thing that EA should've implemented).

Thanks, and yes I used the Titan AIACT - but only for the All Star Weekend events. MM07 is a little too toned down for an all star game, needed something a little more flashy.

    Thanks man, fixed the typo.

About the box scores, it sucks they can't be shown after the game - but theres always the save stats button.

Ben Gordon Beats Out Williams For Three Point Crown

Chicago Bulls shooting gaurd Ben Gordon beat out the Heat's Jason Williams en route to winning the three point shootout crown. Gordon connected on plenty of shots in the first round, posting a score of 27 - the highest score until Jason Williams tied that number later in the round. Grizzlies gaurd Mike Miller, a favorite to win it all, posted a disappointing 10 points in the first round while everyone else went for at least 20 points. In the finals, Jason Williams went first, starting out extremely hot, nailing 5 of his 6 first shots. However, he began to cool down quick, and was as cold as ice heading into the second half of the racks, finishing up with an abysmal 13 points. Williams was set back by the number of money balls he missed, which count for 2 points in the competition. Ben Gordon stepped on to the court with a smile, and done exactly what he did in the first round - took his time and buried his shots, money balls included. Gordon tied his first round score of 27 to take home the crown.

Bulls Thomas Edges Dwight Howard In Dunk Contest

The Chicago Bulls swept the All Star Saturday Night festivities, starting with a three point contest win and topped of by a slam dunk champion performance from rookie forward Tyrus Thomas just over 30 minutes later. Thomas beat out Orlando Magic big man Dwight Howard for the crown, performing a double under the legs dunk in the final round. The contest got off to a great start when Thomas opened up the first round with an off the backboard honeydip - getting the the crowd on their feet when he pointed to the fans while suspended from the rim, earning a perfect score. Ricky Davis was the last dunker of the first round, getting everyone jumping out of their seats after a free throw line dunk. The second round was once again opened by Thomas, who finished with an MJ rock the cradle baseline jam, almsot earning a perfect score. Dwight Howardtook the ball, and decided to try do Thomas one better. Howard pulled off the same dunk, this time from just outside the paint - perfect score. Carlos Boozer and Ricky Davis' final dunks - alley oops involving props - got the the staium rocking, but it was not enough to move on. In the finals, Thomas came out of nowhere with his first dunk to pull off arguably the most difficult dunk in Slam Dunk Contest history - a double through the legs jam. The crowd went silent then burst with an explosion of roaring excitement. The judges quickly held up their scorecards, and to no ones suprise, Thomas was awarded a perfect score. Dwight Howard looked a bit worried, then paused for a moment on the baseline. He then went sprinting towards the basket, finishing with an up and under jam on the other side, getting a mixed applaud from the fans and a tough score. With Thomas just a "good" dunk away from the crown, he pulled out an old school jam. Tyrus came flying in from almost the free throw line, covering his eyes with his forearm and slamming down a powerful one hander. Nothing Dwight could do could match Tyrus' overall score, and Thomas was awarded the 2007 Slam Dunk Contest Champion crown.

Good work on sweeping the All-star weekend awards. Although I'm fairly busy practicing for a dance competition thats coming up in a week or so, seeing you give the All-Star weekend an ass-whooping really motivates me to get my ass back in gear and start updating my own dynasty.

Scoring 27 in a three point contest must be up there in the record books somewhere... players normally struggle to even get 20 nowadays.

Thanks, I came close to giving up to be honest. I just had lost all the enthusiasm come the All Star break, and didn't get round to writing. Now that I'm back to the season I'm alot more interested in seeing where I can take this team.

Nice recaps, and your 3 of 3 so far with the awards. Thomas have been showing up during the weekend for sure.

Yeah, my favorite part of the weekend was Tyrus' showing at the rookie game. His assist numbers were sick! The coolest thing about it is he showed off his passing skills during summer league this year, so it wasn't entirely unrealisitc.

Thanks, hope to see yours up and running again. The active offseason this year has gotta suck the life out of a new dynasty. The rosters start seeming so outdated. As for the three point shootout, I was really hoping for a more exciting finish, but Jason Williams stunk it up in the finals.

I've played the All Star Game and a recap will be up soon. Hopefully I can keep this thing moving and go 2 seasons like I planned. Thanks everyone.

Iverson Earns MVP In All Star Win

      Eastern Conference 149 | Western Conference 163

Recent Denver Nuggets aqcuisitions and new member to the Western Conference, Allen Iverson, finished with 15 points, 4 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals to earn the All Star Game MVP award. Iverson lived up to his nickname as he stopped numerous late game runs from the Eastern Conference All Stars, hitting big shots and making clutch defensive plays to preserve the lead as the game time wound down. The Eastern Conference weren't struggling all game however, as they conrolled the game for most of the first half while lead by Orlando Magic forward Dwight Howard, who finished with 24 points, 16 rebounds and 4 blocks - undoubtly the games MVP had his team got it together in the fourth and came away with the win. However, it wasn't to be. Golden State Warriors gaurd Jason Richardson caught fire in the third quarter, knocking down everything from layup to deep threes to mid range fadeaways. Richardson finished with 15 points in the quarter and led the Western Conference in scoring, with 24 overall. The East made a run at the West during the fourth quarter behind a strong effort from Miami Heat gaurd Dwyane Wade, as Wades fantastic play on both ends of the court led to quick points. However, Amare Stoudemire and Allen Iverson had other ideas. Stoudemire and Iverson combined for 20 points in the final 7 minutes of play, forming a deadly one-two punch that lead the Western Conference All Stars to the win.

GM Paxson Makes Big Moves, Brings In Five New Players

A total of four moves were made today by Chicago Bulls GM John Paxson, bringing in five new players. Mike Sweetney, P.J. Brown, Kelenna Azubuike and Malik Allen were all shipped off to different cities during the day. Sweetney, Brown and Allen were packaged in a deal and sent to Philadelphia for forward Joe Smith and center Steven Hunter. The second deal of the day saw Kelenna Azubuike head to New Orleans for gaurd Jannero Pargo, an ex-Bull and fan favorite in his hometown of Chicago. The final two deals were free agent signings, with the earlier moves creating just under $3 million in capspace for the Bulls to fill their final two roster spots. With a team now consisting of two point gaurds, three shooting gaurds, two small forwards, three power forwards and three centers, Paxson looked to fill the voids at small forward and point gaurd. With the current team, he decided to look for defence and athleticism in a forward, and a solid third string point gaurd capable of running the Bulls offence when needed. Paxson called three free agent small forwards - Kedrick Brown, Mickael Gelabale and Stacey Augmon - before coming to terms on a one year deal with Gelabales agent, worth $385,000. Management then looked for a defensive point gaurd, eventually getting in contact with Bill Duffy, the agent for ex-Heat point gaurd Anthony Carter. Within two hours, Paxson had secured a deal with Carter, signing him for one year at $932,000.

"I'm very happy with the deals we got done today" Paxson said. "We filled two of our biggest needs quite nicely - inside scoring and a offensive spark off the bench. We feel Joe can come in and give us that post scoring we have been lacking, and anyone who watched the Bulls over the past few seasons will remember what Jannero brings as an offensive boost off the bench". When asked about ex-Suns center Steven Hunter, Paxson seemed optimistic. "He has all the tools, athletically, to be a presence. We have Ben and Antonio at the center position. If Steven can come in, grab rebounds, block shots and catch and finish, he's a great pickup. I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do for this team". The deals - all completed within a span of 6 hours, completely remodelled the depth chart of this Bulls team. As the current depth chart stands, Smith will start in place of P.J. Brown, while Steven Hunter and Jannero Pargo will be the first guys off the bench at their respective positions.

When asked about further roster moves, Paxson replied with a smile - "I love this roster. I think we're done".

I'm pretty satisfied with the Blazer roster I have right now, but yeah playing opposing teams with unupdated rosters can kill your interest sometimes. I think as long as there are still a couple dynasties to read, I think it'll keep me motivated enough to keep mine going. I'd say I'm still fairly into it, I just haven't really found enough time to update it.

Anyway enough about me. I remember you talking about trading for Joe Smith a while back but I never envisioned such a big change would come from it. You also ripped my heart out by trading away Azubuike, but it didn't seem too bad since you picked up Hunter and Gelabale. Gotta love your athletic defensive-minded swingmen and your lanky athletic big men. (Y)

I don't know how much PT Gelabale will get, but he was cheap and he's only a one year deal. As for Hunter, he's the first center off the bench right now. Guys like Hunter are monsters in NBA Live. I suspect he should be getting around 15 minutes per game, as long as he's easy to use.

Sorry about Azu. It sucked to see him go, but I couldn't turn down making Pargo a Bull again.

Sacke12 wrote:Wow, you changed up a lot before the trade deadline. About Azubuike, I remember you said earlier that you wouldn't trade him. What changed your mind?

The only thing that changed my mind was that I realized Jannero had a very similar contract to Azu, making a straight up, 1 for 1 trade possible. Azubuike played really well in the minutes given to him during the season, but Pargo fills a need for me. My back up to Ben Gordon was Thabo, and his jumpshot is a little shaky. My backup for Kirk was Chris Duhon, who usually plays well, but doesn't score much. I needed a scorer that can play the 1 and the 2, and Pargo fills that role. The fact that he's lightning quick and a fantastic 3 point shooter got the deal done.

On a side note, Pargo will wear number 15. I accidently gave 8 to Pargo and 15 to Gelabale, should be the other way around.

      Thanks everyone. :)

Bulls Send Gelabale To San Antonio For Highflyer White

Chicago Bulls GM John Paxson made one more move before the trade dealine, sending newly acquired French forward Mickael Gelabale to San Antonio for little used rookie James White. Paxson said San Antonio had called the Seattle Supersonics requesting to speak about Gelabale, but did not decide to sign him when he was cut by the Sonics recently. The Spurs were apparently not willing to waive a player to make room for Gelabale - which means they would have to play for both Gelabale's contract and the player they waived - so they decided to wait for him to be picked up by a potential trade partner while keeping a close on him. When Chicago signed Gelabale, San Antonio immediately got in touch with Paxson.

Paxson had already expressed intrest in ultra athletic swingman James White, as early as December, inquiring about his defensive capabilities. Early today, the Bulls and Spurs came to terms on a deal that would send Mickael Gelabale to the Spurs for White. "I'm very happy to have James on his way down here. He's a guy I want to work on over the next few seasons and see how he turns out. He's an intriguing prospect who could became a great defensive player one day" Paxson said on the deal. "He has alot of the same qualities as Mickael had, but he hasn't been in the league as long and hasn't had a chance to show himself. We decided to take a slight risk by giving up Mickael for a more unknown prospect. I gaurantee he will bring some more excitement to the United Center with his explosiveness, but I think he will suprise some people with his shooting ability, also".

When Paxson was asked once again if this was his final move, Paxson insisted it was his last. "I wanted James White on this roster late last year, but instead we ended up getting Kelenna. When we got Mickael and immediately got that call from San Antonio, it reminded me of everything I saw in James. I would have got him one way or the other. I think if we train him right and give him a chance, he will be a very nice player for us in the near future" Paxson said. White will not be in Chicago for tonights game against the Miami Heat, and will undergo his physical on the 23rd, the same night the Bulls visit Cleveland. Head Coach Scott Skiles and GM John Paxson both said that White will probably be available for the home game against Washington on the 25th, but did not say wether or not he would dress.

      Thanks man.

I traded Mickael just before I saw your post yesterday. The trade probably went down 5 hours before you posted that. I got the same plan you got with Mickael in place for James. Turn him into a defensive monster.

Too bad I moved him just as your about to pick him up, it would of been cool to see how each of hour guys developed. Ah well, turning down James White is something I just can not do.

Its_asdf, happy now? This is about as athletic as it gets. :P

Nice move, bringing in White. I really like "Flight White", he's got some hops for sure. Good luck with your new roster in the upcoming games! (Y)
