Talent And Beauty

Image

From earning a spot on the Olympic team to teaming up with arguably the greatest center ever, good things have happened to Dwyane Wade during his first two NBA seasons.

And they keep happening.

Wade is featured as one of People Magazine’s 50 Most Beautiful People.

Wade is the only NBA star and one of only four athletes featured in the issue, joining international soccer star David Beckham, tennis phenom Maria Sharapova and former NFL player Tim Green. Wade becomes the second Heat player to be featured in the 50 Most Beautiful People issue, joining Alonzo Mourning, who was featured in the issue in the mid-1990s.

The Shaqdaddy Trilogy

Image

In discussing the differences between playing with a young Penny Hardaway in Orlando, a young Kobe Bryant with the Lakers, and now a young Dwyane Wade with the Heat, Shaquille O'Neal evoked the Godfather trilogy, envisioning himself, of course, in the role made famous by Marlon Brando.

"The difference between those three is the Godfather trilogy. One is Fredo, who was never ready for me to hand it over to him. One is Sonny, who will do whatever it takes to be the man, and one is Michael, who if you watch the trilogy, the Godfather hands it over to Michael. So I have no problem handing it over to Dwyane."

Considering the wealth of great characters that emerged from the Godfather movies, why not fill out the rest of the cast:

Playing the part of Luca Brasi is Udonis Haslem. Lost in all the talk of O'Neal sidekicks is the work Haslem has done alongside O'Neal, providing muscle.

Based mostly on size and quotability, Stan Van Gundy gets the part of Clemenza (leave the gun, take the cannolis).

Though he probably lacks the temperament of a true consigliere, Damon Jones would play the part of Tom Hagen. He's fairly cool under pressure and usually has interesting things to say.

And finally, Michael Doleac gets the part of Tessio (see Van Gundy explanation).

But it's clear who Shaq, in the twilight of his career, sees as the one to take over at the end of a game: "I would love to see the ball in my hands, but I'm not the best player or the best shooter on this team," O'Neal said. "I don't mind handing it over to Michael Dwyane Corleone."

No I waived him so I can sign Zo :)

Hah, the Raps rocked your socks and Jalen Rose (favourite Raptor, not sure about favourite player though) also kicked a lot of ass, so it's a loss for you, but its a double bonus for me :D. Good luck and bounce back man, I haven't visited this place in ages....

By the way, I like your articles and all, but isn't copy and pasting considered plagiarism? Maybe you should try writing some articles yourself?

Courtside with Jason Jackson - Feb. 1, 2005

Sun May 15, 2005 4:37 am

Image

Jason Jackson is the host of NEXTEL Heat Tonight seen a half-hour prior to most Miami HEAT telecasts seen on Sun Sports. Jackson also hosts the Dodge Halftime Report, conducts post game interviews and serves as the courtside reporter. Courtside with Jason Jackson allows HEAT Fans to get the inside story on HEAT opponents well before the first jump ball is tossed in the air.

Two Heads are better than one
Avery Johnson came back to the Mavericks organization as a player in late September, but in an unprecedented move transitioned into the team’s number one assistance coach. Then again, when has Don Nelson ever followed precedent?

Johnson soon became the loudest voice at practice and now leads the team as the acting head coach as Nelson, also the Mavs GM, heals from a recent shoulder operation. The team is 25-17 this season, since Johnson took over the reigns. Not a bad start for team receiving a new message of defense and discipline rather than the offensive innovations they’ve grown familiar with from Nelson.

Image

Owner Mark Cuban and Nelson agree that Johnson will be the next head coach of the Mavericks after next season. Cuban said, “I've talked a lot to A.J. as things have progressed and tried to let him know the whole organization is confident in him and to do it his way. It's turned out well."

Jason Terry so very ... good
What a strange season it has been for Mavericks point guard Jason Terry. In August, he was brought in from Atlanta via trade to fill the void left by Steve Nash’s dash back to Phoenix, but soon enough Terry found himself on the bench behind rookie point guard Devin Harris, and even deeper down the depth chart when the Mavs brought in Darrell Armstrong.

Image

Former point guard and current Mavs acting head coach Avery Johnson says it was good old fashioned hard work. According to Johnson, Terry started watching more film, practicing harder, and asking questions – all the things you do to become the best player you can be at your position.

It seems to be working.

A Real Players Coach
After a terrible loss (80-104) to the Nuggets last week, Avery Johnson didn’t run his team through a grueling practice, he took them to lunch.

The next day in preparation for a road game against the Clippers, Johnson loaded the team on the bus and took them all out for a steak lunch, but there was a catch.

The appetizer wasn’t a nice spinach dip in a lovely brown bread bowl, no, it was a film session.

The plan was golden as the Mavs went out and beat the Clippers by 26 the next night.

Maybe the best way to a player’s focus is through his stomach.

Put Marquis on the Marquee
It has been a long time, but it's beginning to look like the Mavericks might see the Marquis Daniels on the floor before long.

Daniels hasn't been full strength because of a lingering left ankle problem that's never healed since he sprained it last summer.

Daniels went through part of practice Friday and had no setbacks Saturday, plus he practiced on Sunday as well.

He attributes the improvement to a new medicated patch he's wearing.

Image

Coach Johnson said Daniels could play more minutes if he goes through a full practice or two with no mishaps.
