Re: The "How is your Association going" Thread

Wed Feb 18, 2009 3:35 am

I'm bored of my association. I want to get rid of a few of my higher contract star players and start my younger players, but none of the teams have enough cap space for a lobsided trade, and I don't want to make 15 trades just to cut a couple million off my cap. I guess I should just trade them for equal, but expiring contracts.

I also tried changing all the sliders to 50, bumping it to hall of fame, and playing 12 minute quarters. It was a turnover fest. The cpu kept trying to throw those stupid passes to the backdoor cutters, and they kept getting picked off. Other than that they were shooting 78% field goals, but turning the short/medium/long/layups to 40/45/50/45 brought it back down. The only thing I liked about Hall of Fame is that the cpu utilized much more of a variety of moves. I had first bumped it to All Star and noticed it, but noticed even more on HoF. Should I just simulate until I can make the moves to get the lineup I want to play with?

So I wanted to start an association story on the thread and was planning on using the OKC Thunder (This was right after hearing Tyson Chandler was traded to them). But now he has been sent back to the Hornets after he failed his physical with the Thunder. So now I want to do a team everyones interested in and will follow. Im still up for starting one with the Thunder if everyone wants me too. Som eI had in mind, if you have any others that you think would be fun to follow just let me know. Oh and Im doing either 29 or 56 game season so I can do multiple seasons without losing interest.

-->Oklahoma City Thunder: Durant/Green/Westrbook could turn into a formidable foe.
-->Memphis Grizzlies: OJ Mayo is a bamf.
-->Chicago Bulls: Derrick Rose and co. could squeeze in as the 8th seed in the first season.
-->Detroit Pistons: The quest to get rid of Iverson and return to Piston ball
-->Charlotte Bobcats: My favorite team

Im open for more team suggestions...I just want followers, lol.

My suggestions for you are the Thunder , Pistons , or Bobcats

I bit te big one. While I probably had a championship team on my hands, I wanted to get my younger guys more playing time so they would develop without hurting the morale of my starters and I didn't really like my team. It wasn't happening. I made about 20 some odd trades in one day, each one trading away my higher contract players for players of a lower contract until I found a player with a small expiring contract. I did that for most of my star players, including Baron Davis and Elton Brand(I was offered Elton in a trade so I took him). I ended up with pretty much a brand new team, 14 million worth of cap space, and enough expiring contracts to give me 38 million of cap space in the offseason to sign some good players.

Here is the problem.

By doing that my Team Chemistry went to ZERO. Absolute zero. I can't tell you how horrible it is to play with a team like that. Layups are constantly missed and even airball. Jumpshots and 3's do not fall unless you are completely open, and that is still inconsistent. You do not get foul calls. Most importantly, your team barely plays any defense. I'm talking 65% fg's by the cpu to 35% user. Mostly inside buckets for both.

So, I am simulating and practicing trying to improve chemistry. I got it as high as 6% through team practices, but with each loss it drops back down. My record is 5-10 on a 7 game losing streak. I'm not sure if I will attempt to play another game until the chemistry goes up, if it does at all.

37-8 after the first quarter....against the Thunder. I spent the second half attempting to double team the point guard in the back court and switching off ball to try and deflect or intercept any pass made out of the double team. It was boring, but it actually worked and I cut the deficit to abou 10. They got some quick inside buckets an the lead went back up to 20.

The one thing that pisses me off about this is that I was having my first all star year with my CAP, and after making these trades, I can barely do anything with him unless I want to shoot 40% from the field. Simulating has dropped his average from 29 ppg to 19, and he has dropped from first to 8th at his position for all star votes.

I guess I will try to play a game against a crappy team, maybe I will be able to compete against them.

I've picked up Nuggets for my Association so I could finally play with my all-time favourite, Allen Iverson. I'm also a huge trade addict so I've decided to rebuild Denver roster. And so, after few (lol) trade's my roster looks like this :
PG: J. Calderon / L. Williams / A. Iverson
SG: A. Iverson / J.R. Smith / M. Finley
SF: J. Green / R. Carney / M. Finley
PF: C. Bosh / Nene / C. Andersen / S. Padgett (mid level - epic fail, I know)
C: J. Noah / R. Hibbert / Nene

I'm currently 6-1. I've lost my first match, that will be Lakers in Staples Center. Since then my team is playing better every game beating Utah, Toronto, Chicago, Detriot, Oklahoma City and Miami.

Iverson is a team leader with 25.5 PPG, 8 APG, 3 RPG and shooting around 45% from the field.

My plan is to build a team around Iverson and Bosh and then, in few more year, around Bosh, Noah and Williams with support of J.R. Smith and R. Hibbert. I figure it should work just fine. ;)

I also have two first round picks of 2009 draft from Raptors and Pistons. I've lost all mine in trades.

So? What do you think? I will keep you up to date with my progress.

Cheers.

Iverson's nearing his last leg in real life, but I don't know how that will pan out in a video game. I personally wouldn't build around him. I would build JR Smith into a star along with Calderon, all around Bosh as the star. It could be a strong complimentary backcourt. I recently picked up JR Smith on my team and he can be pretty sick.

Finley will retire, Iverson will get old and you will want to get rid of his contract once you pick up some rookies or improve your bench players to the point where they start complaining which will cause their rating and morale to drop, hurting team chemistry. I have a rookie PG whose role is set to prospect but he improved his overall above an 80 and now he is complaining about his playing time. The same for Michael Finley. I have him set as a role player but he wants a bigger role andmore minutes. He's behind Eric Gordon, JR Smith, and Jason Kapono before geting minutes at the 2 or 3 spot.

Re: The "How is your Association going" Thread

I wouldn't be so sure about Iverson nearing to his end. ;) We will see about that in few moths, I guess.
Still, I do want to build around him because, as I mentioned, he's my all time favourite. I will try to trade Calderon in next year for younger point guard. I'm thinking D. Williams or R. Rondo.

And if you doubt that Iverson is good choice to build around... he just scored 70pts in win over NJ Nets. ;)

Re: The "How is your Association going" Thread

Tue Mar 03, 2009 9:25 pm

I was exaggerating about Iverson. He's still got a few years left, I just wouldn't build around him. Didn't know he was your favourtie player, of course you are going to keep him. If he is scoring 70 points, then you don't need to build around him, since he doesn't seem to need any other scorers.

I am in year 1 and just finished my first game of the season in a double overtime loss to the Pacers I created a player and i put him on the bulls his overall is 86 but I recently made a you can say blockbuster trade

Bulls get: Okc Thunder's 09' 1st round pick & 10' 1st round pick and Rusell Westbrook

Okc get: Bulls 09' 2nd round pick and 10' 2nd round pick and Derrick Rose and Tim Thomas

who do you thinkl got the better part of the deal?

PDub: how good are you? What are PDub's ratings in the game?

Restarted my assocation for the xth time.

My roster (no trades done so far...started with this lineup):

Lee / Curry / James
Harrington / Jeffries / Rose
Chandler / Gallinari / Balkman
Crawford / Richardson
Duhon / Robinson / Collins

I need size and blocking skills but apart from that my roster's fine.
Crawford is great...he is a shooter and gets hot very often...so does Harrington. I got many decent shooters who can score from downtown. Robinson's height is problematic though as he gets blocked often.

I want to trade Curry and James...the Bobcats are offering B. Diaw. LOL Normally, I should agree but I need Curry's size and Diaw is not that good in 2k9.

I don't play with roles or team chemistry as the game is difficult enough anyway. If I played with these options ratings would drop although the game is difficult enough right now. Moreover, I want to play with the real Knicks (this and last season) and not trade aways players because they are not happy with their role or playing time.

Last time I played 2K9(which was weeks ago), my Knicks won the Finals against OKC, 4-3. I played one game and simmed the rest because I was so frustrated with the CPU play.

Your alter-ego in the game. You wrote that the player PDub is on your roster.

"My lineup now is-

Baron Davis
Eric Gordon - Upset - wants more time on court
Al Thornton
Zach Randolph
Chris Kaman
P-Dub(Me)
Shaun Livingston
Rudy Fernandez - Uncertain - wants better role and playing time
Brandon Bass - Satisfied - wants upgraded role
James Jones - Uneasy - wants better role
Dwayne Jones
DeAndre Jordan
Mark Madsen
Fred Jones"

He started out at 74, I developed him and made him my go-to guy off the bench, and he won sixth man of the year two years in a row. In my third season he is a ~90 overall.

Re: The "How is your Association going" Thread

Wed Mar 18, 2009 2:07 am

Did you create him before the start of your association or did you edit a prospect?

I conducted my first trade after four games. The Hawks were stupid enough to take Jerome James´ contract...they traded O. Hunter for J. James.

I still want to trade Malik Rose as he is an undersized PF and has a big contract. I could have sent Curry to the Bobcats for Diaw but Boris has three more years on his contract, which sucks. Besides, I need Curry´s strength as he gets double-teamed in the post and can pass to Robinson or Crawford at the 3PT-line. A frontcourt with Lee and Harrington lacks some muscles so Curry is important. :) I also need Balkman who is the only player on my roster with the tight D icon.

My current record is 0-4, Crawford leads the team with 24 PPG, Duhon has 9 APG but struggles with a FG% of 27. Lee has 12 PPG, 10 RPG, Harrington has 18 PPG and 12 RPG despite lowered ratings. Chandler has had a bad season so far.

I improved Chandler´s and Richardson´s ratings from the charity stripe with drills and also raised Robinson´s passing skills (he leads the team in turnovers per game). I tried to improve Chandler a second time, raise Lee´s inside D and Crawford´s outside shooting but failed.

After seven games of my 29-game-association Jamal Crawford (my leading scorer) got injured for 9 games (custom injury). Bad luck. :(

1-0 with my Heat team using Juza's roster. Beat the Knicks 126-111, and Wade had 46 points and 16 assists. He had a crazy second half and the Knicks just went cold in the 4th quarter.

Interesting injury, simmed the first day, cause the Heat play the second day of the NBA season. Got a message. It was one of the injury messages that you get. It read,
"Carmelo Anthony has suffered a broken "forgot what it was" and will be out for 299 days". Checked the Injury Report, said he'd be out for the whole season! After my Knicks game it came up on the headlines,
"Injury sidelines Anthony for rest of season". Well, there goes the Nuggets year down the drain, and I thought they would be a challenge with Billups. Crazy :!:

Anyone else get major injuries in their association?

Re: The "How is your Association going" Thread

Jesus. I had the most odd game I have every played. EVERYTHING went my way and against the cpu. First game of the finals, I shot 76%, while limiting the cpu to 25%. I won by 77 and took a 3 at the buzzer to try to hit 80 but missed. I noticed something wrong with the AI after the first quarter so I tried to change some cpu tendencies to make them more aggressive and have better ball movement. It just made Billups toss up continuous bricks from downtown when I backed off. He went 2-20 from 3 point range. Meanwhile, I had 7 players in double figures, and my players dunking at every opportunity, even hitting a few forced shots and coming up with offensive rebounds on bad shots, only to find a wide open player after the board.
