not possible, unless you guys stumble, you should be able to creep into No. 4 spot & face another No. 1 seed....I don't know if they would match up with Spain/Germany or USA....either way, they can't make the final 8 unless they get to the No. 3 spot or higher in their group....that's the same reason why I'm trying to will NZ into the No. 3 spot....a No. 4 spot means someone like Argentina who we wouldn't stand a chance again....I think we could take a depleted France on our day if they played poorly, but not Argentina....main thing for both countries is to make top 16....after that, it's all gravy....

As Aussies, I would try to get the no 3 spot and avoid the USA...

And yeh, ur right.. making the round of 16 matters most right now... after that its the luck of the draw and we just gotta turn up for our knockout game ready to play hard and advance...

honestly I can see Aussies taking the No. 4 spot, matching up with USA, playing them tough for a while, but getting bounced....it seems to happen almost every tourney that the two teams meet....

- As i said before... since Aus has always been about shooting, seems like our style hasnt changed... i seriously think we dont have the dependable shooters to do what we did before... we need to use Bogut to our advantage... but i could be wrong man...

REPOST: FIBA Real Life Tournament Watch... Day 2

Just a bit of random ranting from me!

Ok... i will start my rambling now... my mate tells me that Aussies arent running plays for bogut. I ask Mr Goorijan why not? hes our best player. I know we've traditionally been an outside shooting team with guys like Shane Heal and Andrew Gaze. But back then, they were our best players. Now we got Andrew Bogut who is IMHO by far our best player on the team, why can't we get him to score more, get more touches at least. Correct me if I'm wrong but this is what I've heard. My mate says that he doesn't get enough chances. So I will stick with my arguement.

Andrew does his job though and that's what I like bout the guy. With the Bucks, he never complains and does his job. Learnt to play in PF instead of C and played a very complimentary role in the Bucks' system. I only wish Aussies would use him like Germnay use Dirk and China uses Yao... I wish lol

EDIT1: Ok, just checked in on the result.. Aussies lost in the fourth quarter. Looked at the box score... Bogut was 3/8... 8 shots??? Why only 8 shots? Flo told me Dirk wasn't the goto guy and he got 7 shots in his game??? This sucks man... pass the rock to Bogut... i cant watch the game but I will sure ask around what happened... seriously... CJ Bruton scores 24 points yeh... shot 5/11 from three point range... good, he makes his shots BUT on a night when hes cold, i dont wanna see him go 2/11... seriosuly, Goorijan, change our strategy already!!!

EDIT3: USA playing with repeated rotating onto the ball on defence.. something I havent seen wioth many Team USA teams in the recent past... its a good fresh plan lol... Melo, my fave player on the team right now... scoirng three times if im not mistaken... love it... And Yao is doing great for china... looking for mroe movement from the chinese and try not to be forced to the sides and bottom of the court please...

EDIT4: I'm impressed with Team USA's pressing and fats break which are a result of their effort on defence. Great work China's losing but it is to a better team... i hope we can learn from this.

EDIT6: To everyone, I remember when Yao was in the league earlier he always got the ball knocked out of his hands easier and yeh, it always happens... just a question to everybody... is it cause hes weak or is it cause hes too tall lol? He has to bring the ball from so low to high quickly?? Anyways... impressed with both teams I guess...

And to H Rock, Yao's been playing like this since All-Star weekend... in an interview he shared with media that he learnt how to be a leader on the court... it was great to hear!

EDIT7: Even one of the most optimistic fans like me sees that this game is over... China's struggling against wave after wave of defenders and Team USA is just too quick for them when they need to defend... Flo is right, they dont play Defence... maybe they feel a bit overwhelmed? And also because the Chinese are a bit too slow...

EDIT8: I liked Chris Paul's lay up before!!! and all of a sudden its halftime... And yep, what's with Hack-A-Yao... I mean, Yao hits most of his free throws but IO guess any team doesnt want Yao getting open buckets.. love it how Battier has alreayd hit his new team mate twice!!!

EDIT10: This is a game that my team should play in... We are getting hammered cause of USA's full court press... they are putting on a clinic down there and it's defintely quite a learning experience for the Chinese

HALFTIME EDIT: I think its 65-38 and its halftime... ok... ok shooting from China... when our shooters shoot well, they do well but when they're off... itsd quite horrible.. and in most games they are usually quite sporadic lol...

My views of the game is that China is just too slow and not good enough to compete with the USA... the Americans are doing a good job of containing Yao and also shutting down our backcourt... seeing that our Guards aren't the best ballhandlers you can have (i wish we did have ball handlers to help Yao out)...

Dont feel like there are too many positives for China but Yao and at leats they haven't given up I guess...

And on the CCTV5.. theyre having some kind of sms poll.. seems like a MVP poll and Yao's winning it.. i dunno.. i like national pride but... i hate bias lol... anyways... i might be wrong since i dont speak mandarin and only know canton so yeh... correct me if im worng. i think its a sms poll to decide the game mvp and yao's winning by a lot lol

Ok, checked site and its 38-63... Wade has 15, Paul has 13 and Melo has 10 and Dwight has 8... everyone but Miller and Bosh have scored for USA. Yao has 10 and 5... 8-10 FT and 1-3 FG... Yeh, the field goal shows how much he's being hit in the paitn repeatedly whenever he get's the ball.. sucks to be Yao lol. Hes doing pretty damn well though with the type of defence being played against him.

Well, here's to a better second half! Go China! Hope to see some solid play and hopefully win a quarter at least!

EDIT12: Quick unrelated edit... Spain whipping whoever theyre playing.. Serbia and France pretty close and same with Lithuania and Greece... back to the game!!! Just restarted!

And one more note about France... seems like they are really missing Parker IMO... i know that before even with Tony, they did have times where they didn't look too great but without him at this torunament, I havent seen any games, they look like they are struggling a bit... sucks for Tony... and France...

FIBA Real Life Tournament Watch... Day 3

Just a bit of random ranting from me!

It's quiet day at the Wolrd Championship of Basketball... but I know a few guys who wont be happy.

First off, Argentina wasted Venezula... oh yeh, go Carlos Delfino 9 points all threes... im looking for him to play big minutes for Detroit this season! Always wished for a Delfino-Darko one two punch lol

Onto the big news of the day for me... New Zealand lost to Angola and are in a very tough position. I hope that Dickel's return can help them as they need to win their next two games to make the next round.

Pero Cameron seemed to have a good game with something like 17, 8 and 6... but thats till u look at how he shot 4 for 14. Phil Jones was 4 for 12... not the best shooting night for the kiwis i guess. It seems like they were abit too trigger happy from behind the arc.. Pero was 2 for 10 there and the team was 7 for 27... come on Kiwis... i really hope that you do make the next round...

The next game is a must win... I think u guys can beat Japan and Panama but we will need to wait and see!!!

I think Dickel will definitely help....his speed, handle & passing ability opens it up for everyone....when you look at Penney, Jones, Cameron & Bradshaw, they're all outside shooters....no one can get it done inside....it just goes to show how underrated Sean Marks' contribution to the team must have been....he used to get his 13 & 9 in international competition & that's exactly what we need....I think Dickel will help, but at the moment, we stink....it looks like we peaked against the Aussies about 6 weeks ago & we're stinking it up....all this being said, I will give Angola some credit as they're playing really hot & I wouldn't be surprised if they give Germany a fright or even beat them....

Marks has retired from international competition as of the 2004 Athens Olympics....I think it's to spend more time with his young family....I noticed he was also doing some charity work....can't blame the guy I guess....we could really use him, but in the end, I don't think he would have translated the guys into any wins in the first 3 games....

I'm interested to see how Dickel's influence to the team will be....if we lose another game, the tourney is over....as for the Boomers, I support them as long as they're not playing us, but I meant that if Kiwis are knocked out in pool stages (which would be our most disappointing result since pre-2000), then the only team I'll really want to advance is Aussies....
