Sorry to disappoint you guys, but none of my players were invited into the three point shootout, so I can't really cover that. But hey, it's not like shooting a couple of three pointers is exciting anyways, so I'll just move on to the All-Star game.

The Beasts of the East Beat the Best of the West (112-102 East*)

Although this is LeBron James' first time at the All-Star Game, it definitely doesn't look like it will be his last. LeBron James led the Eastern Conference All-Stars to a 10 point defeat and earned the MVP honours against the Western Conference after the West won the last 3 All-Star Games. LeBron had a moster game with 26 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists along with 2 steals and 2 blocks to lead the the East in scoring. Richard "Rip" Hamilton also made his All-Star debut, and tallied up 18 points. Vince Carter, who came off the bench and Shaquille O'Neal both had 17 points as well.

The West had a very balanced attack which was led by Kobe Bryant and his 17 points. Brad Miller was solid as the starting center for the West as he made his first start as an All-Star and grabbed 14 rebounds; 6 of them offensively, and scored 12 points. Ex-East superstars Tracy McGrady and Baron Davis both made their first appearances in the West and were also looking pretty good, scoring 15 points each.

"He did everything today," said East coach Stan Van Gundy. "He had a lot of different highlights that pleased the crowd, he played defence, he played offence and he also had 7 or 6 rebounds and assists. That's incredible considering that he is still only in his second year out of highschool and he is only 20 and has yet to even scratched the surface of his potential yet."

The East took an early 26-24 lead in the first quarter, when Rip Hamilton started the game off with a mid-range jumper, and the scoring just went back and fourth after that. Surprisingly, both All-Star teams shot a pretty low percentage for an All-Star Game in the first quarter, with each team only hitting 42% from the field.

A wicked alley-oop from Jason Kidd to Ben Wallace got the fans off their seats to start the second quarter. Kidd finished with only 5 points, but gave a spectacular show passing the ball with 7 assists. Another highlight of the second quarter included a 10-0 run with 5 straight dunks from the Western All-Stars, which was started by two fast break Kobe Bryant dunks, and Baron Davis finished the run nicely with three dunks of his own. The East came back with a 12-0 run of their own, when Vince Carter scored 9 of the East's 12 points in that run to re-tie the game at 42. LeBron James also capped the run off with a powerful dunk to reclaim the lead for the East, and finished the quarter with a 55-51 lead to finish the first half.

Grant Hill was back to the All-Star Game after a 4 year hiatus due to injuries, and finished to give 9 points off the bench. Hill also helped orchestrate a 9-0 run for the East in the third quarter after he hit a three pointer and and a layup to extend the East's biggest lead of the game to 72-59. The West responded again, chopping down the lead to 1 point, but a buzzer beater by Rasheed Wallace gave the East a 79-76 lead.

The fourth quarter saw the West slip away quickly after a group of tiny runs made by the East. Reggie Miller scored all 10 of his points in the fourth quarter. Miller, like Hill, also had a stellar come-back like season after averaging a career low in points last season. The lead soon slipped away and back to double digits as the game closed out with a beautiful LeBron James one handed throwdown.

Yeah, it sucks that no one was invited, meh, I figure it would probably be as frustrating as the slam dunk contest anyway.

Raptors Strike Deal at the Deadline

ImageImageImageImage For ImageImageImageImage

The Toronto Raptors made it just beat the clock at the trade deadline to make a gigantic 8 player blockbuster trade with the struggling Los Angeles Clippers. The Raptors sent swingmen Jalen Rose, Kedrick Brown and big men Donyell Marshall and Rafael Araujo to L.A. for rising star Corey Maggette, the young athletic Chris Wilcox, Kerry Kittles and Maurice Baker. This is Toronto's third big trade of the season after hiring their brand new general manager Rob Babcock during the off-season. Babcock has left only four players remaining from the Raptors original opening night roster, which are Rafer Alston, Chris Bosh, and rookies Matt Bonner and Pape Sow. Los Angeles is second last in the entire league with a 3-17 record and are the worst team in the Western Conference.

Jalen Rose became a Raptor after he was dealt from the Chicago Bulls back in the 2003-2004 season. Rose was the Raptors second leading scorer with 17.5 points per game, while also being the Raptors' second leader in assists per game after Rafer Alston. Rose has a pretty good statline, but his value usually could not be measured just by stats as he would usually play a stalwart role in the Raptors offence, especially in the fourth quarter where he could easily take over games and would normally hit huge clutch shots to help give Toronto the tiny edge in tight basketball games. Rose was also becoming more vocal and more of a leader on the team, and mentored young players such as J.R. Smith and DeShawn Stevenson. Although Rose was a positive influence on the Raptors, he still could not shrug off his incredibly huge max contract that would pay him more than 35 million over the next 3 years, which would probably hurt the chances of the Raptors trying to resign their younger players.

Donyell Marshall was a solid contributor off the bench for the Raptors, and even though Donyell was originally a power foward, he was forced to play the role as the back-up center for most of the season, which probably led to his erratic and inconsistent play this season. Marshall also came from the Chicago trade, and averaged a double-double with his first season with the Raptors. His numbers have been down from last season since he has gotten less minutes, but he still has a strong 8.3 points per game average and a 6.3 rebounds per game average. 'Yell would also be a free agent at the end of the season, and would most likely be a value commodity to most teams since he can both rebound from the inside and shoot three pointers from the outside.

Kedrick Brown was signed as a free agent at the beginning of the year. Many people did not know that Kedrick would turn out to be a solid 6th man off the bench for the Raptors. Brown's first few years in the league made him gain the reputation as a player who could only play above the rim, but he silenced many critics this season with his 9.3 points per game and 3.2 rebounds per game average. Brown also set a number of career highs for himself this season, and would also probably be a highly recruited free agent in the offseason after his spectacular turnaround this season.

After being selected 8th overall in the draft by Toronto in the 2004 draft, the brazilian beast Rafael Araujo has yet to live up to his expectations. Araujo would always look lost both offensively and defensively for Toronto, and he eventually lost his starting position to Tony Battie who was dealt from Orlando. Araujo started slipping even further, after he lost his way into Sam Mitchell's regular rotation when rookie Matt Bonner outworked him and Araujo was even put in the I.R. after the Raptors gave up and decided to work on second-round project Pape Sow. Araujo averaged 2.3 points per game and 1.9 rebounds per game in the 11 games that he has played in.

Corey Maggette started his career as the 13th pick in the 99-00 draft and was traded to Los Angeles, where he improved his scoring, freethrow, assists and steal averages every year. Maggette's exellent athletiscm and improvements every season led to the signing of a multi-million dollar deal with the Clips in the 2003 offseason, and has blossomed into a star ever since. Maggette's numbers have dropped a little bit this season, averaging 18.9 points per game and 4.4 rebounds per game compared to 20.7 points per game and 5.9 rebounds per game last year. Maggette's usual solid field goal percentage has also dipped down to 40%. During the middle of January, Maggette became fed up with the losing of the Clippers and had demanded for a trade, which had upset many Clipper fans.

Chris Wilcox played only 13 games for the Clippers this season, and has been playing mainly garbage minutes. Wilcox averaged 8.6 points per game and 4.7 rebounds per game in only 20.6 minutes last season for Los Angeles, but has not played many minutes this season and is only averaging 2.2 points per game and 0.8 rebounds per game. Chris Wilcox is well known for his youthful vitality and his jumping and athletic abilites and he should thrive in the Raptors fast-paced offence. Although Wilcox is very young and talented, he still needs a little polish on his jumpshot.

Finally healthy the past season, Kerry Kittles was a key part in the Nets' offence thanks to his three point shooting and was the Nets best perimeter defender. Kittles was traded in the off-season to Los Angeles for a second round pick, and Kittles has not played a single game this season after he injured himself during an exhibition match. Kittles' first two seasons in the NBA were his best, but many injuries over the years has turned him to a solid role player. Kerry, like Maggette and Wilcox, can be very effective on the fastbreak and can finish pretty well. Kittles is also a free agent by the end of this season, so his 10 million dollar contract will expire after this season, which means that there will be plenty of cap room to sign any big time free agents. Kittles can be a really good player for the Raptors if he can stay healthy and can recover from his injury.

Maurice Baker is a third-string point guard and will most likely sit out in the I.R. this season.

Comments by Players/Staff

"This is a great opportunity for me join a winning situation," says Maggette. "I feel like I can make a really positive contribution to this Raptors team, and I feel that we can make the playoffs." When asked about whether or not the team was his or Chris Bosh's, Maggette answered "It's Bosh's. I know that the Raptors are trying to build around him and make him into a superstar, and from what I've seen they're doing the right thing. I was able to play with Elton Brand, so I don't see why I can't play alongside Bosh."

"This is a really good day for the future of the Raptors franchise," said Rob Babcock. We had to give away Kedrick Brown and Jalen Rose, who contribute largely to our success every game, and Marshall has been huge off of the bench for us, but we just could not pass on the talent that was offered by Corey and Chris."

Babcock also felt that Kerry Kittles could be a major part of the deal if he can stay healthy. "I strongly feel that Kerry could be the Rasheed Wallace-type player that could put us over the top if his health does not become an issue here. We lack defensive intensity at times because we are such a young team, but Kittles can bring some really good perimeter defence that we so sorely need."

"This is a sad time for me," said Kedrick Brown. "I loved it so much here, and this is the first team that has allowed me to showcase my talents. I am extremely humbled and I thank the Raptors organization greatly for believing in me and making me who I am today."

Nice trade dude, it actually looks like something Toronto and LA might've done in real-life too, "to shake up their franchises".

ps. speaking about "shaking up", I have a sim dynsty where the Sixers and Heat made a D.Wade for W.Green trade, no other players involved, motive was to shake up their franchises.

solid deal....Maggette's a great pickup but you had to give up the hardworking Donyell Marshall....

I had to give up Marshall eventually, I didn't want to just let a perfectly good player go to waste through free agency anyway.

Yes, three is the maximum, I just did two individual trades. I traded Araujo for Wilcox. Then I traded Maggette, Kittles and Baker for Rose, Brown and Marshall.

Well thanks for all of the comments everyone, I really appreciated the feedback.

Chicago Bulls (6-14) vs Toronto Raptors (11-6)

The Toronto Raptors will start off the second half of the season after a surprising 11-6 start. Toronto's Chris Bosh won the MVP award for the Rookie vs Sohpmore game, and J.R. Smith became the winner of the Slam Dunk Contest during the All-Star Weekend. Toronto has gone on a three game winning streak this month, including two tough road games against the Los Angeles Lakers and the Miami Heat. gigantic eight player deal at the deadline, sending away Jalen Rose, Kedrick Brown, Donyell Marshall and Rafael Araujo for Corey Maggette, Chris Wilcox, Maurice Baker and Kerry Kittles. Maggette will be taking Jalen Rose's starting spot at the small foward position for this game after averaging 18.9 points per game and 4.2 rebounds per game.

The Chicago Bulls have picked up two very young talented players during the 2004 draft, but they continue to struggle like they have been every season since Michael Jordan retired. One of Chicago's first round draft picks is the explosive rookie Ben Gordon, who also participated in the Rookie Challenge against Bosh and competed against J.R. Smith in the Dunk Contest and also is the Bulls second leading scorer. The Bulls are a dangerous outisde shooting team and are ranked third in the league in three point field goal percentage, but are also young and inexperienced, so they also rank 5th in the turnover category.

"They are a young team just like us," said head coach Sam Mitchell. "They play exceptionally good team defence and we'll have to be able to force and create turnovers to get our fast break opportunities going. Maggette, Wilcox and Kittles have only attended one practice, but hopefully they will be able to keep up with our game plan."

Notes to Know
-Nobody in Chicago's starting lineup is over the age of 25.
-Bulls' point guard Jannero Pargo signed a 10 day contract with the Raptors last season and played 5 games for them. Pargo signed with the Bulls later that year and averaged 13.5 points per game for them.........
-The Bulls and the Raptors made 2 trades with each other last season, with the Raptors sending Antonio Davis, Jerome Williams and Chris Jefferies for Jalen Rose, Donyell Marshall and Lonny Baxter. The other trade was the Raptors trading Rick Brunson for Roger Mason Jr.
-Raptor power foward Matt Bonner was originally a second round draft pick by the Chicago Bulls.

Starting 5

C - T. Battie(6ppg, 6.5rpg) vs E. Curry(13.4ppg, 8.3rpg)

PF - C. Bosh(18.2ppg, 8.5rpg) vs T. Chandler(10.6ppg, 10.4rpg)

SF - C. Maggette(18.9ppg, 4.4rpg) vs L. Deng(14.4ppg, 6.1rpg)

SG - J.R. Smith(12.4ppg, 2.5rpg) vs B. Gordon(16.8ppg, 4.1apg)

PG - R. Alston(9.8ppg, 5.9apg) vs K. Hinrich(19.6ppg, 6.9apg)

Key Matchup

SF - ImageC. Maggette(18.9ppg, 4.4rpg) vs ImageL. Deng(14.4ppg, 6.1rpg)

Corey Maggette will most likely still be adjusting to his new Raptor team, so this gives an advantage to Luol Deng. Deng is extremely versatile and can hurt the Raptors inside and out. Maggette is known for being an aggressive attacker to the basket and will probably go to the line a lot, and he should have a slight quickness and speed advantage over Deng. Corey has to play smart and remember that Deng is still only 19 years old, so Maggette has to use his experience.

Tue May 17, 2005 8:02 am

It's a real good deal, but I think the Clippers got the better deal. But they have to take on Rose contract and you get a much younger Maggette. Let's see how well your new acquired players perform in the first game.

Tue May 17, 2005 8:11 am

Nice to see Maggette in the starting 5 for his first game. I think trade benefited for both teams cuz Maggette and Rose are two players who averaged almost the same amount of points per game. We will see if it helped for the first game

Tue May 17, 2005 8:42 am

Maggette should use his size to shoot over Deng, because here he don't have the speed advantage...gonna see the result, good game 8-) we are watching.

Tue May 17, 2005 11:13 am

Good Trade Maggette, and Kittles can make a pretty good back court themselves so if Alston slows just stick in Kittles. (Y)

Curry and the Bulls Stampede Through Toronto (102-81 Bulls*)

Raptors Boxscore
Bulls Boxscore

Sam Mitchell could only watch as the Bulls completely out-muscled the Raptors en-route to a blow out victory. Chicago got some impressive rebounding numbers from their young bigmen Eddy Curry and Tyson Chandler, who each had 6 offensive rebounds apiece. Curry also had the game-high 23 points and a career high 7 blocks. Chandler and Curry both just missed a double-double; Curry had 9 rebounds and Chandler had 8 points and 14 rebounds. Former Raptor Antonio Davis also had 4 of his 5 rebounds offensively, and finished with 10 points off of the bench.

The Raptors have lost their first game this month after going on a 3 game winning streak. Toronto had bad production from the players that they had recieved from a blockbuster trade that they made just before the trade deadline. Corey Maggette had 16 points on 7 for 16 shooting, and Kerry Kittles came back from an injury an had only 5 points. Chris Wilcox managed to get 8 points and 5 rebounds off the bench. J.R. Smith led the team with 21 points, but had a bad shooting night. Rookie Challenge MVP Chris Bosh also was not into form, shooting only 3 of 11 from the field but added a 10 point 12 rebound effort. The Raptors were helpless on the boards as they were outrebounded 54-36 and were killed by the Bulls in offensive rebounding, 21-9.

"We lost guys like Kedrick Brown, Jalen Rose and Donyell Marshall, who each played a very important part to our team," said Raptor head coach Sam Mitchell. "I know our new guys had to get used to our new system, but that does not give an excuse to everyone else to completely turn this game into a trainwreck."

A 13-4 run was made by the Bulls in the first quarter, but Corey Maggette scored 5 of his points in a 7-0 run for the Raptors to close back the gap, and the Raptors eventually tied it 15-15 after a Rafer Alston layup. Maggette picked up two quick fouls though, so Kerry Kittles made his Raptor debut a little earlier than expected. Kittles immediately hit a 3 pointer to give the Raptors a one point lead, but the Bulls would eventually take a one point 23-22 lead of their own after the first. Alston already had 4 of his 5 assists in this quarter and the stat comparisons for both teams were relatively even.

The Raptor's biggest lead of the game was at one point after J.R. Smith hit a pair of freethrows to give Toronto the lead at the second quarter. Toronto maintained their one point advantage throught the majority of the second quarter, but an 8-0 run started by Luol Deng and Kirk Hinrich threes and a Tyson Chandler layup pushed the Bulls lead to 45-37 by halftime. Rookies Luol Deng and J.R. Smith each had 9 points to lead their teams.

Chicago had 4 offensive boards within the first minute of the third quarter, and that propelled the Bulls to another 8-0 run. The Bulls gained a huge 66-45 advantage and blew the game wide open. Corey Maggette began to catch fire and scored 11 points this quarter after he made a few jumpers, but Maggette was forced to sit out after picking up his fourth foul. The quarter ended with the Bulls outscoring the Raptors by 12. The Bulls had 9 offensive rebounds this quarter and 19 rebounds in total; while the Raptors only had 9 rebounds in total.

Many people thought that Chicago would loose their cool in the fourth quarter and let the Raptors back in it, but they managed to keep their composure and hold the Raptors down and match every shot that the Raptors made with their own. The Bulls had another 6 offensive rebounds this quarter, while the Raptors had none. J.R. Smith finished the quarter with 11 points. Toronto was harassed into shooting 40% in the game when they usually lead the league in field goal percentage.

"We played some exellent defence," said Ben Gordon. "Teams usually underestimate Chris Bosh, but Eddy Curry and Tyson Chandler both did a fine job guarding him all game long."

Well, I did the trade to get rid of Rose's contract, he makes like 16 mill after this season  . With Kittles and Davis' HUGE contracts expriring, I'll get about 12 million cap space in the offseason!

I think I'll make Kittles play the off-guard and small foward position rather than point guard.... I've already got Alvin Williams for that.
