October Review

The Los Angeles Lakers finished 4-4 during preseason play and are now looking forward to a regular season opening clash against the Phoenix Suns. The injury plagued team will be without stars Lamar Odom, Smush Parker, Kwame Brown, Chris Mihm and perhaps even Kobe Bryant for the first game and the first four players listed are looking at missing the first two weeks of the season.

Bryant and Mihm have been out since the playoffs after both of them underwent surgery in the off season. Kwame Brown lasted just one game before being injured during a practise while Odom and Parker both suffered the same injury in the same game during the preseason. “We’re a bit crippled so to speak,” Kurt Rambis told journalists a few days ago as he handed the coaching duties back to Phil Jackson, “I’m sure Phil will have more than a sore hip.” Jackson even joked along, “A sore head is more like it hey Kurt?” With Jackson back in charge, the Lakers will be looking to make some sort of challenge every night.

“We just want to be consistent,” Maurice Evans said, “If we hold our own for the first handful of matches and don’t fall behind too much, players like Kobe don’t need to rush back.” Consistency was sorely lacking from the preseason edition of the Lakers. The only thing that was consistent was two losses to the Phoenix Suns. “Now that was bad,” Luke Walton stated.

The Lakers suffered a roller coaster like ride of ups and downs; that started with a big win over the Jazz, a big loss to the Suns, a few close wins and losses, before concluding with a big win against the Nuggets. However, a few good things did come out of all the inconsistent performances of the team. The Lakers showed the coaching staff a potent three point accuracy no one thought they had in them. Led by Smush Parker, Sasha Vujacic and Shammond Williams; the Lakers abused teams that decided to let the Lakers guards to shoot open treys.

Another positive was the play of rookie Jordan Farmar who looked in control of the offence during the limited time he was allowed to play. Along with that was Andrew Bynum being able to step into a starting role and being capable of delivering an instant double double. Maurice Evans has proven to be a steal on Draft Night when he was traded to the Lakers for a second round draft pick. Evans has eased into a starting guard role and had provided LA with a consistent scoring option and star defender. “I’m happy with him,” Jackson spoke of his newest player, “He’s athletic, hustles and is smart… the perfect player to help us out.”

This season looks bright for the Lakers even with their starting line up from last season on the injured list right now. A return to the postseason is more than probable but the exact placing of this team is still uncertain. The Lakers take on the Phoenix Suns in their first game of the season and it may just be about right to say that their play against Phoenix will help predict the rest of this coming season.

Evans was a good pickup through the offseason. Walton is capable of anything and Bynum needs to live up to his expectation.

Sat Nov 11, 2006 1:14 am

Good recap man...

It even looks that Kobe isn't needed for you anymore..

Sat Nov 11, 2006 5:10 am

Good read. Evans was doing really nice job in these preseason games, so he got the team MVP honors

Evans was underrated when he was first acquired but I was so damn happy when I read that we got Maruice Evans. I'm glad he's in LA now! Walton is awesome player... fan avourite! Not sure who I like more out of Turiaf and Walton but probably Walton... partly cause his dad tries hard to ignore him. :D

And Bynum... i expected him to be playing well in at least 2 more years but he's doing ok right now too!

Pursuer wrote:It even looks that Kobe isn't needed for you anymore..

He can have a good rest :D But the next game against the Suns will be really tough.

Marquis wrote:Good read. Evans was doing really nice job in these preseason games, so he got the team MVP honors

Yeah man, Evans is the bomb :D

I don't know if I hsould start the dynasty... I've waited for so long fore the patch... And plus... I'm waiting on a roster update... and bigh0rt doesn't seem like he's finished with that yet. I will think of something to do in the meantime though!

Sun Nov 12, 2006 5:26 am

wow man, 5 injured players at the same time...and usually they are good players, u'll have a tough premier month i think...

Sun Nov 12, 2006 10:54 am

Lucky we got lots of home games! :D

Mon Nov 13, 2006 10:44 am

Looking forward ot the start of the season (Y)

Mon Nov 13, 2006 11:41 am

Yo Mark is back!

Hey man, thanks for the banners ok?

Mon Nov 13, 2006 11:47 am

Looking forward to the regular season Zoom, your team looks pretty damn good despite the losses of Chris, Lamar, Kobe and Kwame. Bynum has looked pretty good so far along with Walton but I gotta say that Ronny is my favorite non-injured player on your team. Are you gonna keep it realistic and keep Mihm out for the season?

Either way, good luck on your first season with the best current Dynasty on the NLSC (Y)

Mon Nov 13, 2006 11:49 am

Thanks lots bro. Really appreciated with your kind words. :D

Yes, I will make an announcement later about Chris Mihm being out for the season. However, a bad thing is that being realistic bro, I cant trade Mihm away :( noooo...

Mon Nov 13, 2006 2:49 pm

I'm just checking in :P Heading away to Melbourne tomorrow so won't be on often for a month or so.

I think you should trade Mihm away, its not like you have to follow everything that happen in real life, its not like your scores or record are likely to be the same as real life.

Personally I think a dynasty is realistic as long as you can sort of justify the trades you make etc, and in the end your team is in a virtual world not the real world

If you wanna trade Mihm, trade him (Y)

Mon Nov 13, 2006 5:43 pm

Well, realistic as in, who would want an injured Chris Mihm?

EDIT: Please don't say Isiah

Mon Nov 13, 2006 6:12 pm

 Well I suppose a team who is wanting to rid themselves of a contract, while still getting a decent bigman in exchange. Im not too sure of who though, maybe you take on a contract and get a draft pick in exchange for Mihm....

I was more trying to mkae a point that your dynasty can still be realistic even though you make trades that didnt happen in real life (Y)

Looking foward to your next update anyway, when can we expect to see it?

Mon Nov 13, 2006 6:27 pm

Ah yeah, No problems buddy! I sorta knew that already :P

It was just I need to think of players expendable and everything.

But right now, I regret 'retiring' Mckie... coulda used him as trade bait. I won't lose mihm just yet. A) He's injured so not many teams would take him. B) I like him as a player anyways.

Don't think I will be making any deals this season!

Well, first update will be in next 3 days. Gotta study for exams and also got the job at the Supermarket so need to get ready for that. Plus I intend to paint the house and also get to the gym a bit i nthe Summer.

Lakers Sign New Staff

The Los Angeles Lakers are proud to announce that they have signed four new members to the team's group of staff. Carlos Ruiz, 56, is sharing the assistant head coach role with Kurt Rambis. The Puerto Rican was previously coaching overseas in Italy. "It is a dream come true to finally get to have a job in the NBA," Ruiz said.

Former NCAA stand out Furious Jimenez, 39, joins Phil Jackson's staff on the bench as an assistant. The former star from Iowa gains his first basketball job since playing for Iowa in the 1980s. Jimenez who is a specialist in teaching defence has been given the job of helping Kareem Abdul-Jabbar tutor young centre Andrew Bynum. "I am excited in coming to LA and to help out Bynum who is a project player," Jimenez said, "I hope that I will be able to do as well as Mr Abdul-Jabbar is doing."

Fred Stevensen joins Gary Vitti's training crew. The 49 year old is a self proclaimed Laker fan who said his fondest memory was the victory parades held in Los Angeles during the Lakers' three peat era in the early 2000s. Luke Rego, a former player at North Carolina, joins the front office where he, Brian Shaw, and Vlade Divac share scouting duties.

"We are very proud to have four experts in their respective fields to join our team," Mitch Kupchak said, "We are looking forward to a highly successful season."

The first 5-10 games will be tough  When they come back, especially Kobe, I will adjust his ratings to make him slower... so it will be harder to play with him (Y)

Here's a rumour for you guys about the dynasty: Word has it that a trade involving Smush Parker/Chris Mihm might be in the works. Also, Toni Kukoc, Jay Williams, Antonio Davis are said to be in talks with the Lakers.
