East vs West

All-Star Weekend's final showcase of East versus West took place tonight in Houston and the spectacle didn't fail to deliver; a series of alleyoops concocted by last season's regular season MVP Steve Nash won him All Star Game MVP this year around on the back of a 16pts 12asts performance.
The West led by 14 coming into the final quarter and didn't look likely to throw the game away even though the East staged a slight comeback led by Lebron James' insatiable hunger for accolades. In the end, Yao's 9 blocks got the better of the East and the Western All Stars ran away with the win.

Sacramento's Shawn Marion managed 6pts and 1ast in his 11minutes of playing time.

Two weeks ago the Kings would have looked forward to this fixture against the losers-from-the-capitol Wizards who then had a 1-15 record. Time has passed however and Washington has beaten both Atlanta and Orlando, meaning Sacramento will have no chance to relax against a side led by the improving Gilbert Arenas. In the Kings last game against the Milwaukee Bucks readers must be reminded that Shawn Marion scored 47 points and Mike Bibby notched 20 assists to hammer the Bucks back down to earth after they'd beaten Phoenix the week before. Sacramento will be looking to the form that saw them crush Milwaukee 2 weeks ago.

The often overlooked Caron Butler is having a career season, seemingly leading the Wizards alongside Arenas to all those hilariously bad losses! Washington will have their hands full in the frontcourt however as the under-strength Antawn Jamison and Brendan Haywood match up against Brad Miller and Shawn Marion, league leader in rebounds and top 10 in ppg.

WASHINGTON WIZARDS (3-17)

C - Brendan Haywood
(13.8ppg, 9.4rpg, 0.7apg, 0.7spg, 1.5bpg)

PF - Antawn Jamison

SF - Caron Butler

SG - Gilbert Arenas

PG - Antonio Daniels

SACRAMENTO KINGS (10-9)

C - Brad Miller

SF - Corliss Williamson

SG - Raja Bell

Around the League on Saturday the 25th of February: No major trades were completed before the trade deadline on Thursday 23rd of February, and so the league's teams will remain much unchanged from now until the offseason. After slipping up against the Bucks(10-11), Phoenix(18-3) only just beat the Sonics(8-11) (PHX 98 vs 97 SEA) yesterday, demonstrating a continuing decline in form this month for the Suns. Breathing up their ass is the advancing Pistons(19-5) who have 9 wins in a row!

Indiana(10-8) look resurgent and have notched 5wins in a row, with the improvement of their superstar big-man Jermaine O'Neal, Peja Stojakovic has had to give the ball up more often and his stats have fallen, but the Pacers are rising in the East.

Toronto(7-13) is home to the leagues longest losing streak of 6 losses in a row.

A game that looked like it would be anything other than a thrilling overtime loss for Sacramento(10-10) came to town tonight as the Kings hosted the Wizards(4-17). Washington came out resurgent, rueful of their poor performance in the first half of the season. Will it be enough though for the Wizards? Surely they will have to win every game from now until seasons end to have a chance at a playoff birth. Sacramento left frustrated and annoyed at their play, not even another bagfull of points by Shawn Marion could secure them a win, nothing went right for them all game as the Wizards out-rebounded the Kings 65 to 45 and led at the end of every quarter except the first.

Sacramento is approaching the end of the regular season with only 2 months remaining and 9 games against tough opposition like the Mavericks(12-8), Cavaliers(14-6) and Spurs(11-8) on the last day. Shing Williams and the Kings will be looking to turn things around against the Knicks (10-12) next week.

Phoenix beat Philadelphia (PHX 88 vs 85 PHI) and New Jersey (NJN 67 vs 82 PHX) last week to clinch its division title with their awesome record of 20wins 3losses. Washington hauled their asses off the bottom rung of the ladder with wins against Atlanta, Orlando and Sacramento last month after a 16 game losing streak!
Portland land themselves in the Top 3 despite having the same record as the mid-table LA Clippers! The NorthWest division sucks!
The trouble-team of the NBA is no longer the New York Knicks who're pushing for the playoffs, it is the Denver Nuggets who have an amazing team but only 7 wins so far this season!
Boston sits high and dry and is expecting a strong playoff campaign.

After the Celtics strong performances in January and February, Paul Pierce is named as February's Eastern Conference Player of the Month. Steve Nash, the glue that holds the greatest team in the league together, is Western Conference POTM. Andrew Bogut and Chris Paul both earn their second nominations to their respective conferences Rookie of the Month places.

Sat Apr 29, 2006 10:12 am

Thx man! Unfortunately Pierce just sprained his ankle and will miss a few games :(

Anthony15 wrote:Realistic stats, but unrealistic standings, Portland 3rd and Nuggz somewhere at the bottom?

The only unrealistic thing about the standings is that Denver is doing badly, although since that last update they've won 2 in a row. The reason Portland is so high is because they lead their division.

It is time for Sacramento to stop the slide before it begins. Coach Shing Williams is not happy with the way his side has been performing lately and has decided to switch things around in the Kings starting lineup. Corliss Williamson and Raja Bell start tonight's game on the bench in favor of James Jones and slam-dunk-champ Kevin Martin to face Sacramento's mid-table neighbours the New York Knicks. The Kings will be hoping to leave behind the painful memories of last week's matchup loss against the struggling Washington Wizards (4-17).

Tonight's game is a chance for Jones and Martin to prove themselves against Sacramento's usual starters in the SF and SG positions. Fans will be looking forward to some of the aerial acrobatics that saw Kevin Martin win the Dunk Crown over All Star Weekend.

NEW YORK KNICKS (11-12)

C - Eddie Curry
(14.5ppg, 11.1rpg, 0.5apg, 0.7spg, 1.0bpg)

PF - Channing Frye
(10.6ppg, 7.5rpg, 2.3apg, 1.3spg, 1.7bpg)

SF - Jalen Rose

SG - Jamal Crawford
(14.9ppg, 2.7rpg, 5.1apg, 1.2spg, 0.2bpg)

PG - Stephon Marbury
(19.0ppg, 4.4rpg, 6.8apg, 2.1spg, 0.3bpg)

NYK vs SAC

This was an important one for the Kings against their mid-table neighbours the New York Knicks. Sacramento's form has been shakey lately and coach Shing Williams admitted to being disappointed with his players efforts. It seems his move to replace Bell and Williamson with Jones and Martin paid off as the two newbies helped the Kings share the ball around the court rather than focus on only Shawn Marion's scoring abilities. Jermaine Jones was suspect for ball-hogging however, he hit a load of bricks after his 12 first quarter points boosted his confidence.

It looks like the new lineup worked, but the opposition was tough to beat and held the game close right up until the final quarter when Sacramento ran away with it in the last 5minutes.
