Take that Spree! Iggy scored 2 of his 13 points on this play, helping the team win.

Minneapolis, MN (AP) -- The teams shook off the hype once they all got onto the floor for Game 1 of the Finals. "It was sort of different when we were taking warm-ups because, I mean, the crowd was huge with everyone wearing blue. But once the game started, we shook that off." Andre Iguodala said. The crowd was booing as the Sixers recieved the first tip of the 2005 NBA Finals. The T-Wolves started the game off with a 6 point lead at the quarter. The entire game mainly went the Sixers way too, as they took a 14 point halftime lead and went on a 9-0 run late in the 3rd to put it away. "We had C-Webb in foul trouble, but he still contributed and did so very well." T-Wolves coach Kevin McHale said.

The Sixers then had a double-digit lead consistently in the 4th quarter. Minnesota never got close. KG only had 19 points. The Sixers dominated Game 1 and are in good position to win Game 2 and take a 2-0 lead back to Philly. Here are what some people had to say.

T-WOLVES COACH KEVIN MCHALE
Image
"This looked like the perfect oppurtunity to win right at home tonight. However, some of our players weren't playing as well as they should have. KG was double-teamed consistently and couldn't get his shot on tonight. Also we shot 3/19 from downtown and thats not us."

T-WOLVES GUARD SAM CASSELL (7 PTS):
Image
"Damn why couldn't we win tonight? I know that people think I'm frustrated 'cuz of the trade rumors but we have a chance to win the freakin title. No one showed up tonight on our side. We just have to win the next game."

T-WOLVES FORWARD KEVIN GARNETT (19 PTS, 8 BLKS):
Image
"Philly was all over me tonight. Every time I got the ball there were like two or three people around me. It was hard to get points 'cuz I had to rely on jump shots instead of dunking it. I liked the defense on my side, and if I play as well on O as i did on D, we should be able to win Game 2."

SIXERS HEAD COACH JIM O'BRIEN
Image
"This was a big victory for us tonight and we had alot of players step up tonight with C-Webb in foul trouble. AI had only 16 points but 8 assists and 6 steals. Dalembert got a double-double and 3 blocks. However two players got injured :x and hopefully they will be healthy for Game 2."

SIXERS GUARD ALLEN IVERSON (16 PTS, 8 ASSTS, 6 STLS):
Image
"Today I didn't get all of the points, but I'm happy with my performance tonight. I helped out the team with good passes and played great D. Hopefully Willie and Marc can play game 2, but if they can't, other players will step up for us so we can win."

It is the Finals, so you want your best players even if they are hurt. However, Willie is a role player, so he will sit for Game 2 and maybe even more. Taking his place is Jamal Mashburn who is playing for the first time this year.

Remember, there are still spots left for the draft. See my previous post for more details.

hopefully willie will be back soon enough. dont know how monster mash is gonna perform.
colickyboy wrote:btw, i noticed your 6 blocks...are you on all-star level?

6 blocks is an average number in terms of how many a night the sixers usually get in my dynasty. 11 was sorta high for them though. and i'm on all-star level too.
Emiliano wrote:Nice win! Too bad about the injuries but I kinda like it cause I wanna see J-Mash play

yeh it'll be interesting all right. Just take note that he'll wear #22 for the Sixers. (Bobby Jones #24 is retired, and so is Billy Cunningham's #32)

Remember if you want to be in th 2005 Draft, there are still 4 spots left! Just send me the CF and ratings in a PM and ur in.

Kyle Korver missed this 3 pointer which could have won it for Philly.

Minneapolis, MN (AP) -- Tonight was Minnesota's night. Up by 10 going into the 4th they were confident that Game 2 was going into their hands. The Target Center thought so too. However, Philly came back to tie the game at 87 with 5 mins to play. Even when Kevin Garnett got foul #5 and the Kandi Man fouled out, the T-Wolves were still strong. Sam Cassell and Latrell Sprewell played their hearts out. Then Philly missed a shot with about 13 seconds left on the clock and down by 2. Cassell, an excellent FT shooter, went to the line but missed one of his free throws. Then Korver nailed a 4 point play.
Image
But Cassell came back with a quick 3 to go up by 2 with 6.3 left in the game. Korver missed at the buzzer, and the Timberwolves are going to Philly with the series split at one game a piece.

Btw he'll be gone for most likely the rest of the finals, might be back for Game 6 or 7 though. Mark Madsen will start while he is out :D .

There are still 4 spots remaining for the 2005 Draft. If you would like to join the 06 draft, send me a PM for that as well. If I don't get 4 NLSC players then I'll replace the generic ones with Euroleague guys or just leave them there. Don't miss out on this oppurtunity.

Yeh i wuz surprised with how Korver performed. Spree and Cassell were awesome couldn't help that.
{SAC-1} wrote:OMG you lost by two points...tough loss...good luck next game

Yeh it wuz a close game. I'm confident we'll win tho since Madsens at C.

You might be getting tired of hearing this, but there are still spots left for the 05 draft. I would appreciate it if the guys with CF's could join my dynasty. However, if you want higher ratings and stuff just send the stuff and say "I would like to be in next years draft".

man, heart-wrenching to be up 7 with under 2 mins left and lose the game. was korver's buzzer-beater a three or were you trying to tie?

The Suns started the game off with a 6 point lead at the quarter.

A final between three teams? Just kidding, good exciting series you got going here.

Yeh I was just trying to burn the clock. After the 3 I got virtually nothing burning the clock and they got quick baskets. Korver was shooting a three.

For the 05 draft, you can get it done anytime before the offseason starts. However, I will be in New York from Thursday all the way up to part of Monday so I would prefer if you could get it done tonight. However, you can get it done when u want as long as its before the offseason.

The T-Wolves celebrate their Game 3 victory over the Sixers.

Philadelphia, PA (AP) -- Minnesota was able to play well without a legit center. While Sam Dalembert had one of the greatest games of his career, his teammates did not and Minnesota won. Philly was bad on D, giving up several scoring runs. But the shot that hurt them the most came with about 30 seconds left on the clock.
The T-Wolves had a 5 point lead. If they missed this shot, the Sixers had a chance at coming back. If they made it, this one was just about over. While running down the clock, they gave it of all people to Fred Hoiberg. He took a 30 foot shot in Aaron McKie's face and hit it :x . The crowd was stunned, and the Sixers could not recover.
"Today has got to be the greatest game of my career," said Hoiberg. "My feelings right now can't be described in words."
"That was just a lucky shot," said Jim O'Brien "I have no clue how he made that."

INJURY REPORT
Image
The Sixers kept Willie safe by benching him 2 games instead of risking his injury. However, that may have backfired on them, as Philly went 0-2 in his absence. His presence will greatly help the Sixers as they try and win Game 4.

Remember, there are still spots left for the draft! Just send me a PM with all the stuff and you're in. And there will be no more updates until Monday (unless I can squeeze Game 4 in this morning) However, I might be able to answer questions and stuff since there are computers at the place I'm going to.

Woah, it's gone the other way. How come you get to take so many shots? I always end up putting up less than the CPU.

air wrote:Woah, it's gone the other way. How come you get to take so many shots? I always end up putting up less than the CPU.

I grabbed all the off. boards, so I got more second chances. They won, however, with better shot selection and getting more FT attempts. And I'm not looking forward to a repeat of the '01 Finals. Most people remember that we won the first, lost the next 4, including 3 straight at home. Game 4 is virtually a must win.

Fri Aug 19, 2005 12:30 am

what a way to lose. hoiberg won't have another game like that...
