Is that the first time a team with a losing record wins the championship? Southwest division must have stunk for the Rockets to win it at 40-42.

Last season was a disaster; not only did the Nuggets have the second worst record in the Western Conference, but they traded away their lottery pick for the often injured Marreese Speights. Their marquee signing (Kenny Young) played less than half the season, but he displayed enough potential to make the Denver fans believe he could be the next big thing. Kenny underwent some changes in the off-season; the most noticeable of course is that he cut off his trademark locks, but he also added 15lbs to his previously lean frame. He practiced his shooting in the gym tirelessly and is hoping his work will pay off in the new season.
2012-2013 will be all about getting back to that contending level, and they'll do so under the direction of Paul Westphal. Will Kenny thrive under his implemented system? Or will the Nuggets wish they kept on John Kuester?
Season 3 of Another Level is about to begin!
The Nuggets first game of the season and the first under new coach Paul Westphal.
It wasn't from a lack of trying, but Young had a relatively underwhelming first game. He had 15 points off 7/18 shooting, as well as 7 rebounds and 1 assist. OKC were too good in the fourth, beating the Nuggets 105-98. Durant once again had his way with 42 points and 12 rebounds
Kenny came up with the highlight reel dunk against the Kings and while he had 24 points, 13 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block and 2 steals, his inefficiency was the main factor of the game. 9/23 from the field as Denver lost 105-100.
A big reason to why he has a low field goal percentage to start the year is that he's taking more perimeter shots. He hit this one, but for the season his 3 point percentage is an abysmal .091.
Young, Batum and Speights were involved in this sickening collision. Speights had a sore wrist, but apart from that, there were no injuries to report after the incident.
Despite shooting 36 percent from the field, Young was named player of the game with 23 points (8/22 FG), 12 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals. Even if he's shooting poorly, he can prove to be a difference maker for Denver. They beat Portland 93-90 to pick up their first win of the season and Paul Westphal's first as their coach.
The Nuggets made their first trade of the season, sending Cartier Martin to the Hornets for Pops Mensah-Bonsu.
Despite an inefficient start to the season from the field, Young continues to be an excellent free throw shooter, hitting over 90 percent of his attempts.
Against the Raptors he was outstanding with 29 points, 19 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 block and 1 steal. He also shot a better percentage with 12/25 from the field. The Nuggets win 93-78.
Just the second week of the season and Kenny picks up the West award. Things are looking promising.
David Lee should know by now that Kenny likes his highlight reel dunks... particularly against the Warriors.
34 points, 11 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 blocks against the Warriors as the Nuggets win 119-98
Despite being woeful from behind the arc previously in the season, Kenny hit 2/3 from three against the Phoenix Suns.
Young was on fire in the first half, but he only added 6 points to that tally. Westphal also restricted him to 24 minutes for the game. Nuggets lost to the tune of 110-104.
He flew high against the Hawks, but was hampered by an ankle injury. From his 32 minutes he had 24 points, 16 rebounds, 7 assists and 2 steals in their 100-93 loss. Kenny missed the next two games (Miami and Charlotte). Denver dropped both of those games.
Coming back from injury against his old team the Washington Wizards, Young re-injured his troublesome ankle. This time, the prognosis is 2-4 weeks with a Severe Ankle Sprain. A season is interrupted again as he missed the rest of November.
The Nuggets had mixed results without their star. While Young was injured, they also made another trade. Donte Greene was sent to the Atlanta Hawks for Sasha Vujacic.
Martti. wrote:Use skill points on durability, you seem to get injured once every 3 games or so.
Axel. wrote:Oh man, what an insult to injury. You get injured and the Nuggets trade for Vujabitch. Not really having the season I expected so far.
He may be having an inefficient season from the field, but you gotta show him more respect than that! Kenny drained that 3.
While to the naked eye Kenny's numbers look good with 20 points, 11 rebounds, 8 assists, 4 steals and 1 block, his shooting continues to be woeful. He was 8/26 from the field against the Grizzlies. The Nuggets ended up losing 103-96.
He shot an improved 43% from the field against the Hawks to pick up 24 points.
Kenny's freakish rebounding was the highlight of the game. He grabbed 21 boards against the Hawks. 10 assists completed his triple-double, while he stole the ball 3 times for good measure. Nuggets won 105-96.
Kenny got his teammates involved against the Heat, as he got 8 assists, including this And-1 by Marreese Speights.
Young had a full stat-line with 32 points, 15 rebounds, 8 assists, 3 steals and a block, but again he shot bricks with 11/37 from the field. His direct opponent LeBron James had 37 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Heat to a 98-91 win.
Kenny's stat-line against the Spurs was nice as well (33 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals and 3 blocks) but it was the same old story; BRICKS! 14/35 from the field saw Young and the Nuggets lose by 86-79 against the Spurs.
He struggled early against the Warriors, but he picked up his game later on to shoot 9/20 from the field. He had 19 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals and 3 blocks to lead Denver to a 103-94 win against the Warriors.
This was the second game in a row where Kenny had 3 blocks. His ability to challenge shots has improved a lot.
Despite the bricks, Kenny was named the player of the week in the Western Conference.
In Denver's 104-94 loss against the reigning champions, Kenny scored 28 points in 26 minutes. He also had 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and 3 blocks. This would be nowhere near his greatest effort in the second half of December though...
The points poured in for Young against the Cavs. He ended up with 37 points, 15 rebounds and 3 assists. Nuggets trashed the Cavs by a scoreline of 112-88
With the hot form Kenny has displayed, his backup Bob Alexander has become frustrated by his lack of minutes.
Despite this emphatic dunk, both Young and the Nuggets had a relatively lack-luster display, losing to the Pistons 89-82. Kenny had 16 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists in 21 minutes. He shot 38 percent from the field that night. Will he slip into his previous habits?
For the moment, we can say the game against the Jazz was a statement game.
39 in the first half is one heck of a statement...
...as is a career high of 5 blocks. Josh Childress just needs to release the ball a little higher.
Frustrated by his team's 109-102 loss, but definitely not by his own performance. He had a career high in points (61) and blocks (5), as well as 11 rebounds, 7 assists and 2 steals. A superstar has arrived in Denver.
The point onslaught continued on into the next game. That's right, those scores are after one quarter of play.
Young was well on his way to another 50+ point game.
It doesn't matter who was put on him, nobody had any effect on his game.
54 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists, 4 steals and 2 blocks. Denver cruise to a 126-102 win.
Young is going through a purple patch in his career. Seems like nobody can even contain him at the moment.
The man who couldn't shoot to save his life at the beginning of his career landed 7/11 from beyond the arc in this one, to go with his previous 5/15 effort against the Wolves. Nuggets win against the Suns by 109-99. Young ended up with phenominal numbers once again with 60 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal and 1 block. He could be gunning for Kobe's 5 in a row.
Needless to say, his efforts were good enough to win him player of the week again.
Unfortunately they weren't good enough to grab the last game of the year. Nuggets lost to the Wolves by 103-98. Young had a lazy 30 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal and 2 blocks.
