2010-2011 - Games 11 to 20 report: Record: 12-8

A much improved 10 game stretch saw the Bulls go 7-3 as the new additions gelled with the the rest of the roster and produced some more positive results. Within the 10 games were some excellent clutch performances from Bulls players; to get the win over San Antonio Kirk Hinrich scored 6 points in the last 20 seconds including a 3 pointer and an and-1 with 0.8 seconds to go, Hinrich nervelessly converted the free throw to give the Bulls the 3 point win. Also, versus Indiana, Derrick Rose made clutch lay up with 3.4 seconds to go which put the Bulls up by 2, a lead they would hold to the finish.

Sidenote - Chris Bosh was also named east player of the month for Novemeber, but only as a result of the weird glitch that occurs in seasons after the first in a Dynasty mode where players win awards with incredibly good stats, which, if you check, are not their real stats, furthermore there were numerous players who performed better than Bosh in Novemeber so I will not be taking this award to seriously.

Leaders after 20 games(Have to qualify):

PPG: Derrick Rose - 15.6
RPG: Chris Bosh - 8.1
APG: Derrick Rose - 6.4
BPG: Chris Bosh - 1.7
SPG: Derrick Rose - 1.3
FG%: Shaquille O'Neal - 60.7% (NBA leader)
3 PT%: Kyle Korver - 48.4%
FT%: Kyle Korver - 94.1%
Mins: Chris Bosh - 610

Top performer through 20 games:

Derrick Rose - MPG 28.0, PPG 15.6, APG 6.4, SPG 1.3, FG% 49.6 - The Bulls young star point guard was once again the top performer over a ten game stretch, after a slower start by his standards he has upped his PPG and APG by nearly 1.0 each and leads the team in both these categories along with SPG also. An increase in assists was expected from Rose with the additions of Shaq and CB4, two guys who provide big targets in the paint, however, Rose has also improved his scoring from last season averaging over a point per game more at this stage in the season than he did last go-round, showing his continued development into one of the league's best point guards.

Rookie watch:

Bart Murray - MPG 12.4, PPG 2.2, RPG 3.0, BPG 0.6, FG% 55.9 - Last years first round pick of the bulls has done well when given the opportunity for extended minutes in games, he is able to over-perform due to his height and has been showing evidence of an ability to knock down a jump shot in work outs, something which wasn't known of him at the time of his drafting, despite the Zydrunas Ilgauskas comparisons.

Here's hoping you can get on a bit of a run and zoom up the standings. Good to see you getting a bit more comfortable with the new roster.

Just a note before the next game report is up, which is the big game between the Bulls and Lakers at staples center, there are no misplaced question marks in the report and scroll down carefully, the second section of the report should not be seen before the entire first section has been read, mind you, the second section is only two words long...

you will realise what I mean when you start reading, i hope, lol.

NBA Regular Season Game 22, Staples Center, Los Angeles CA.

Image

(?-?)Chicago Bulls ??? - ??? Los Angeles Lakers(?-?) OT

Overtime thriller on a night of big storylines

There were plenty of big storylines that could have taken over the game at Staples Center, the next installment of Shaq vs Kobe, Derek Fisher's return to LA, Phil Jackson trying to mastermind a win over his former employers, but in the end, a thrilling game of Basketball was the spectacle. The game swung back and forth in the final minutes of regular time and continued to do so throughout overtime, neither team would have been undeserving of winning a game laden with clutch plays, all of which were excecuted successfully by Derrick Rose for the Bulls or Andrew Bynum for the lakers, save for one.

With just under 24 seconds to go in regular time upon starting a possession, with the scores level, Derrick Rose ran down the clock, with around ten seconds to go he made his move, but in an attept to spin around Andrew Bynum he lost control of the ball, Bynum seized it, and a time out was called.
From the resulting time out the lakers got the ball to Bynum who was able to lay the ball in and give the lakers a 2 point lead with 5 seconds to go.
Coming out of a timeout the Bulls got the ball to rose who penetrated with the help of a Shaquille O'Neal screen and put a layup towards the hoop, the ball was still tetering around the rim as the buzzer sounded but after what seemed like an age it finally dropped and overtime was required.
The Bulls pulled away at the start of OT but the Lakers got back in it to force another frantic set of events orchestrated by Rose and Bynum.
With 6 seconds to go Derrick Rose managed to get a lay up in and put the Bulls up by 1.
The Lakers called a time out and coming out of it once again got the ball to Bynum, who was fouled by Shaq in his attempt to get the the basket and two free throws were awarded, he nervelessly made them both, putting the Lakers back up by 1.
So it was left to the Bulls to make a score with 5.8 seconds remaining. The ball was inbounded to Rose whilst Shaq set the pick, Rose took the ball round the screening big man and found himself open to the left of the hoop, with the shot clock winding down he set himself and fired up a 15 foot shot just before the buzzer sounded...

... it missed.

Not the ending I'd like to have seen, but great effort all the same and sounds like a fun one to play despite the eventual loss.

Haha what a coincidence, to be fair to him he has made every other clutch shot he has taken until that one

It was, i can't be too downhearted as i set up a really good look for rose, he just didn't knock it down this time

His 3 point shooting is incredible in Live 10, can't think of many to rival him in the game outside of Ray Allen, and maybe Daequon cook when he gets hot.

Somehow I only just noticed, as Quentin Richardson was shooting a free throw, he is wearing number 23! I actually cringed when I saw it, EA has to sort that out for Elite 11!

NBA Regular Season Game 25, American Airlines arena, Miami FL.

Image

(15-10)Chicago Bulls 111 - 104 Miami Heat(10-12) OT

Hot Shot Korver fires Bulls past Heat in OT

Behind 5 of 8 3 point shooting Kyle Korver led the Bulls in scoring from the bench in the overtime win over the Heat. Chris Bosh had the chance to win it at the end of regulation but his shot missed. Derrick Rose fouled out in the early stages of over time. Korver's 25 bench points were added to by Bosh's 23 and Rose's 21, both Bosh and O'Neal double doubled, Rose was on assist away from doing so. For the Heat, as on so many occasions in the past, Dwyane Wade was required to do everything he could to keep it close, but even the reigning MVP's 37 points and 8 assists were not enough to save the Heat from faliing further below the .500 win percentage mark. He did recieve support from Chamers, Ilgauskas and Pierce, who scored 16,15 and 14 respectively, what's more big Z added 19 rebounds! But it was still all in vain.

Game Leaders:

NBA Regular Season Game 26, Amway arena, Orlando FL.

Image

(15-11)Chicago Bulls 96 - 118 Orlando Magic(18-9)

Howard and Nelson combine for 66 in blowout win

The Bulls were well and truly blown out by an Orlando side who somehow only achieved the 8th seed in last years eastern conference, they did reach the conference finals however, and after this win sit 3rd in the east with a 18-9 record, and you could see why. Past role players such as Michael Pietrus and Marcin Gortat made major contributions (Pietrus 24 points, Gortat 8 points and 10 rebounds) along with the starters who were in formidable form. Dwight Howard made Shaq a non-factor and Dominated in the paint, helping himself to a 30-10 night, Jameer Nelson's shot was on target all night, he was 14 of 26 from the field and filled up the stat sheet with 35 points, 4 rebounds, 7 assists and 2 blocks. Vince Carter added a double double. For the Bulls Korver, Rose and Bosh were good, Korver had 31 behind 5 of 9 3 point shooting from the bench, Bosh and Rose double doubled, but that was about it for the Bulls who were lacklustre on the night.

Game Leaders:

Points
-
Bulls (Korver 31, Bosh 16, Rose 12)
Magic (Nelson 35, Howard 31, Pietrus 24)

Rebounds
-
Bulls (O'Neal 10, Bosh 9)
Magic (Howard 11, Gortat 10)

Assists
-
Bulls (Rose 10)
Magic (Carter 11, Nelson 7, Howard 7)

Player of the game - Dwight Howard(ORL) - 31 points, 11 rebounds, 7 assists, 2 blocks.

2010-2011 - Games 21-30 report: Record: 17-13

The Bulls were hit and miss during this 5-5 run, it began with losses to both LA teams at staples center, including the heartbreaking 1 point loss to the Lakers where Derrick Rose missed a buzzer beating jump-shot at the end of overtime. The Bulls performed better after this point with 3 and 2 game win streaks, but were also blown out by the Magic and lost the last 2 games of the stretch to Portland and Sacramento, teams they would expect to beat.

Leaders after 30 games(Have to qualify):

PPG: Derrick Rose - 16.4
RPG: Chris Bosh - 8.6
APG: Derrick Rose - 6.8
BPG: Shaquille O'Neal - 1.6
SPG: Derrick Rose - 1.4
FG%: Shaquille O'Neal - 62.7%
3 PT%: Kyle Korver - 47.9%
FT%: Kyle Korver - 96.4%
Mins: Chris Bosh - 954

Top performer through 30 games:

Derrick Rose - MPG 29.7, PPG 16.4, APG 6.8, SPG 1.4, FG% 48.1 - Despite his team struggling for consistency, D-Rose has had no such problems and he continues to lead the team in points, assists and steals, Rose runs the offence brilliantly each night, orchestrates the pick and roll brilliantly, penetrates effectively, gets to the rim regularly and knocks down mid range shots well, despite the last second miss that would have won the game against the Lakers, he has been the Bulls best player.

Rookie watch:

Bart Murray - MPG 11.9, PPG 1.9, RPG 2.6, BPG 0.7, FG% 50.0 - The 22 year old, 7'1 center out of Gonzaga University continues to show flashes that show, if he improves throughout his career, he could hold down a spot in a team's rotation, he has shown an ability to shoot from mid range, albeit not that regularly, as well as evidence of a decent all round offensive game, he can block the ball well enough because of his size but lacks the defensive instincts of a true paint protector, still a useful bench player on occasions, such as against the Magic where he got some valuable garbage time minutes and contributed 8 points and 2 blocks, 1 of which was against Dwight Howard.

Thank you mate, as for Korver he is my go to guy when I need a 3 pointer and I just love his shooting!

Korver's working out great. I hope I can use him just as effectively in my Dynasty and that the real Korver works out just as well. ;)

Having the game recognise retired jersey numbers has been on the Wishlist for years, it'd definitely be a nice touch for Dynasty Mode. In the meantime, you can take care of it yourself with the Edit Player function.

Oh thanks alot mate I didnt think of that! As for Korver yeah I find him great to play with as a shooter coming off the bench, he's one of the favourites for 6th man at this stage too

NBA Regular Season Game 33, Pepsi Center, Denver CO.

Image

(18-15)Chicago Bulls 82 - 89 Denver Nuggets(21-15)

Powerful performance from 'Melo carries Nuggets past Bulls

Carmelo Anthony was at his electrifying best as the Nuggets overcame the Bulls at Pepsi Center, the first quarter was basically a dunking exhibition from Anthony as he put up numerous highlight reel dunks, and he didn't relent for the rest of the game filling up the stats sheet for the Nuggets with 37 points 5 rebounds 5 assists 3 blocks and a steal. Chauncey Billups added 23 points and 6 assists whilst Nene double doubled. For the Bulls, Chris Bosh filled the stat sheet in a similar way to Bosh, just not quite to the same extent, with 18 points 6 rebounds 5 assists a block and a steal, but that was about it for the Bulls, with no other meaningful contributions aside from Kyle Korver's 13-5-4 night, however Korver uncharachteristically went 1 of 7 from deep, which majorly limited his impact on the game.

Game Leaders:

Points
-
Bulls (Bosh 18, Korver 13, Fisher 11)
Nuggets (Anthony 37, Billups 23, Smith 14)

Trade action heats up in January

ImageImageImageImage

Up until the 16th of January it had been all quiet on the trading front in the NBA with the just the Quentin Richardson to Chicago trade going down, however, 3 trades in the space of 4 days have got the NBA talking again:

Milwaukee Trades Todd Hofman to Denver for Ty Lawson
-
New Jersey Trades Courtney Lee, Damian Butler to Los Angeles Lakers for Shannon Brown
-
Portland Trades LaMarcus Aldridge to Orlando for Jameer Nelson, Tyronn Lue

The most interesting of the trades being the deal that sends Orlando's starting point guard Nelson over to the Blazers for big man Aldridge. The trade appears to make little sense for the Blazers as the arrival of Nelson will most likely send Andre Miller to the bench and mean that Joel Pryzbilla will have to start in the frontcourt. For the Magic, the trade upgrades them at power forward but also means that they only have one point guard now on their roster, that point guard being the 17th overall pick Byron Herrmann form Port-Au-Prince, Haiti, who will now most likely be handed the reins to the Orlando offence, the young point guard is an explosive player, with the ability to finish at the rim, shoot jumpshots, as well as find team mates, the main criticism from many pundits of him however has been his inabilty to handle the ball well enough to play point guard in the NBA, but with the lack of other options now on the Magic roster, he might just have to.

In other news...

Image

News was recieved today that Chicago Bulls power forward Chris Bosh has suffered a sprained toe in training and will miss around a month of action, this is bad news for both the Bulls and Bosh, as it puts his potential appearance at the All-Star game in jeopardy.

Tough break with the loss and Bosh's injury. Seems like you had a bit of trouble putting points on the board in that one, though you probably would've been alright if not for Melo's big night.

2010-2011 - Games 31-40 report: Record: 24 - 16

A good 10 game stint for the Bulls has seen them go 7-3, they currently sit 7th in the east and were even able to go 3-1 without leading rebounder Chris Bosh as he succumbed to an injury which will see him miss around a month of the season. The team rallied after the loss to Denver to win 6 games out of 7, including beating last year's western conference runner up Houston thanks to a 30 point performance from Kirk Hinrich, however, the Bulls were unable to avenge last year's first round playoff loss to the Wizards as they were blown out by 29 points behind a 30 point night from Caron Butler.

Leaders after 40 games(Have to qualify):

PPG: Derrick Rose - 15.3
RPG: Chris Bosh - 8.6
APG: Derrick Rose - 6.6
BPG: Chris Bosh and Shaquille O'Neal - 1.5
SPG: Derrick Rose and Kirk Hinrich - 1.2
FG%: Shaquille O'Neal - 62.7%
3 PT%: Kyle Korver - 44.6%
FT%: Kyle Korver - 96.9%
Mins: Derrick Rose - 1175

Top performer through 40 games:

Derrick Rose - MPG 29.4, PPG 15.3, APG 6.6, SPG 1.2 FG% 45.5 - Has taken over from Chris Bosh as minutes leader due to the big man's injury but looks unlikely to gain his first all-star appearance this February, despite Jameer Nelson's move to the west. Nontheless he is 16th in the NBA in assists.

Rookie watch:

Bart Murray - MPG 12.0, PPG 1.6, RPG 2.5, BPG 0.7, FG% 45.2 - Not much more to add at this stage about the big man, looks likely to hold down a place in the Bulls rotation due to what his size offers, but is 3rd choice center behind O'Neal and Noah.
