Grizzlies Front Office
The Time is Now
Nov. 17, 2008 - day after Grizzlies sank to the bottom of the league
With the first month slowly ending the Grizzlies look to be in troubles. Although their's game performance shows much more than their season record(1-7), but this team is in a need for veteran leadership, or maybee not even a leader, but a guy or two who can make the right decisions in crunch time.
2:00PM Michael Heisley's office, FedExForum, Memphis
At first there was an ackward silence between Jerry and Michael - the owner
"Well? You don't have anything to say?" Heisley asked West
"I mean....we all did make the right decisions - with signings and bringing in incredible talent...Gordon...Scot..." West replied.
"Right decisions?!? You got me there Jerry because I don't see ANY right decisions! " Heisley interrupted West
"You wanna tell me that I've spend all this money, how much was it? $30M? And now we are performing the same as last year?!?" Heisley continued.
"Do you undestand how dumb we are currently looking? With all last year's optimism and promotions and interviews and EVERYTHING! Now we are back to square one!" Heisley concluded.
"I know Michael I know. But I can't affect on players' performance, you know that Michael." West said
"And I'm still a hundred percent sure that we can make it and reach our goal - the playoffs." West defended his belives.
"Don't you watch TV?! Along with Lakers, we are the biggest UNpleasant surprise of the season!" Heisley said to the West with upsetting tone.
"All I know Michael, that we have to act fast and bring in some quality veterans before all goes totally wrong." West tried to explain to Heisley
"I'm listening, for now..." Heisley said with interest.
"We are not the only team that is not doing great at the moment, so there are some teams who are ready to talk and trade..."
"But in order to get anything decent we will have to sacrifice someone and I'm talking about Darko, Kwame, Paul, Hakim(Warrick) and/or even Dawid" said West
"To trade? You think that the team needs new players? Maybee we should reconsider coach's quality first, don't you think?" Heisley wondered
"No, don't think like that. Marc is a great coach - you should come to the games more often, you will see." West answered.
"I'll embrace everything that could bring us to a higher level, but know that if you weren't my close friend your ass would be gone " Heisley said.
"I'll go making calls immidietly. We will rise again, remember? West said with bittersweet smile and walked out of the office.
